  1. The issue is that you said there was a problem instead of simply proposing a new way. I agree there are better ways to do it, I don't agree there is a problem in or caused by the current way. :)

    Nothing is rare in a game with more dupes than an episode of 3 Stooges. That is why you can't really expect to setup an ongoing value based upon spawn rates/rarity.

    I don't assume anything when it comes to Bohemia and documentation. After having numerous very long loading issues when I first started playing DayZ I stopped trusting beta patches to be backwards compatible. I always match client to server versions.

    The only person who can tell if it is a good deal is you. You have another M9 SD and you don't have NVGs, obviously trading one for NVGs is a very good deal. I'm sure the person with NVGs has a tent full of them but doesn't have an M9 SD so it is a very good deal for him as well.

    Brand new to DayZ, streaming, need tips!

    Use overlays to hide every location that shows your player name, server name, and chat/kill text. Change your name every time you change servers.
  8. Ethanol, methanol, and bio-diesel. You can use "reality" to explain an end to gasoline, you can't use it to explain an end to fuel for internal combustion engines. You'd have vehicles running on vegetable fuels, you'd also see the return of wood/coal-fired steam power. On top of that it won't matter how much gasoline is left because modern gasoline doesn't store very long. You'd be able to find gasoline for years to come, most of it would be useless, though. Lastly, any argument based upon realism is doomed to failure. Realism isn't the main course, it is a spice, and like any spice how much is needed is entirely subjective. :) Oh, and one other thing. I'd be perfectly happy if the vehicle spawns worked similarly to the downed helicopters. Lots of random spawn points all over the map that could spawn any vehicle, while still keeping the total vehicle count relatively low. Any gameplay that can't be subverted with 10 minutes of research on a wiki is a good idea.

    I suspect this is only true about a few versions, including the recent one, which guess what? MOVED VON TO A DIFFERENT PORT. ...of course you'd have voice chat version incompatibilities with that. duh?
  10. First, stop pulling numbers from your ass. Second, if you know the vehicles are on the side/top of the map then what is stopping you from going and getting one? The only problem I see is that people want a vehicle to always be waiting for them where a map they downloaded outside of the game says one will be. They're too lazy to actually do the work necessary to find one. Cry me a river. EDIT: If this post irritates you, perhaps you should stop and be honest with yourself about why it irritates you. You might learn something. What you're calling the "Vehicle Problem" is actually a feature. Vehicles are rare, persistent, and first come, first serve: working as intended. There is nothing inherently wrong with that feature, nothing inherently wrong with that design. You're just upset that other players aren't playing the way you want them to.
  11. I expect public and private servers to be supported, with characters that start on private servers bound to those servers. That way people who want their private fiefdom can have it, they just can't use it to take advantage of people on public servers. The main argument against private hives at this point in time loses its weight when the mod/standalone move out of "alpha" status.

    I didn't create the dupers, DayZ created the dupers. You don't have to search Google to dupe in DayZ, all you have to do is play the game, you'll dupe things left and right inadvertently. There are enough people duping in the game that it doesn't really matter how many new people dupe. The items are already on the servers, the intended rarity of items, the intended scarcity of ammo? It is already ruined. The only fix for it is to remove the underlying bugs and wait for the ingame item-sinks to eventually catch up. By trying to use security through obscurity you're not accomplish anything.

    Nobody who has picked up an item can tell you for sure that item wasn't hacked unless they were on a server by themselves and sat there and watched the game spawn the item into a loot spot. Anything else you've picked up? You have no way of proving it wasn't hacked in. Hey, it is easy to say that the as50 with thermal scope you found was hacked in, but how do you tell about any item that is normally a part of DayZ? You can't. ...which is why they don't ban people who use hacked-in items.
  15. No it wouldn't. It doesn't prevent you from logging into the SAME server. Read it again. 1. Logout of server A. 1a. Log back into server A? OK - This is your DC, relog example. 1b. Log back into another server -let's call it B-? OK 2. Logout of Server B. 2a. Log back into server B? OK 2b. Log back into server A? NOT OK. This is ghosting. 2c. Log back into any server you've played on in the last hour other than Server B? NOT OK. This could be ghosting. Voila, ghosting rendered useless for most encounters. Can tweak the hour interval to find what works best. Please don't make me draw up a flowchart of this, it isn't that complex to grasp.
  16. I'll take an M16 ACOG over an M4 SD any day of the week as long as I have an M9 SD sidearm. ;) He could also be playing in a squad where silent zombie kills are somebody else's responsibility. Because let's be honest, if you want to kill players, the M16 ACOG is a much better weapon than the M4 SD.
  17. You put in a server history and you only allow people to login to new servers, servers that they last logged out of at least 1 hour ago, or the most recent server they logged out of. That doesn't prevent server hopping itself, but it does prevent effective ghosting. 1 hour is enough to prevent most ghosting attempts. It would have to be much longer if you wanted to prevent people trying to crack fortified buildings, though, assuming the people holding the building in question planned on holding it for more than an hour.

    Nothing considered valuable is rare in a game with as many ways to dupe as DayZ has.

    Too many places. Smart ones don't even use the same spot each trip. ;) The door to the barracks is the only chokepoint to catch the smart ones. At NWAF you'd have to surround the trunk of every pine tree within 300m of a barracks with tank traps, if you can even place a tank trap that close to the trunk of a pine tree.
  20. I got kicked for this on a regular basis, have never cheated/hacked DayZ in any way. It only started after a hacker KILLED ME.

    Fix for Graphics Glitches in 1.7.2.4

    Try this instead, it'll work for just about anybody, although it is a bit of a pain. 1. Move to where the corruption is visible. 2. Logout of server. 3. Exit game. 4. Start game 5. Log back in. I've found that if I start the game where I would normally see corruption... I don't see corruption. :)

    I don't know what this has to do with server hoppers. If you really want to piss off server hoppers what you do it this: 1. Pick a server with only 1-2 players. 2. Put a tank trap between the external door and the first hallway door in NWAF Northern Barracks. 3. Put two strands of barbed wire outside the external door. Back to back strands can't be vaulted, server hoppers will have to stop moving to remove them. 4. Position yourself in the 2 story shed in the industrial area just SE of the barracks. 5. Up on the catwalk in that building you have an unobstructed view of the barracks door you've blocked. 6. Stay there for awhile, sniping solo server hoppers when they stop to remove the barbed wire. In your story the people you're fighting probably aren't even hoppers. The people you kill with my method will almost always be hoppers and will quite often have no backup whatsoever.

    Idea for Stand Alone DayZ

    You forgot the sniper class that 90% of the players will want to play . A much better system is roll-your-own-class by making a bunch of traits and allowing you to pick some subset of them to make a character.

    Camo clothes garbage?

    Why do you need a reason to pick camo over ghillie? Next you'll be wanting a reason to pick enfield over AS50. It doesn't matter which you pick over the other, it matters WHICH YOU FIND.
