So this zoom isn't actually any more zoom, it's just that the view defaults further out and zooming in now gives you the equivalent of the current SA aim down sights?

Holy shit really? Best news ever!

You definitely run faster with fists up, except uphill in which case you go slower. Test it with another player instead of a zombie. Unfortunately you can't punch while running any more, which blows imo.

Spawns On The East, Bet Everyone Thought It Was Stupid...
Bororm replied to jacobahalls's topic in General Discussion
Right, and the game shouldn't force you to do things, that is what I said. Also, I can tell you right now, that regardless of where I spawn on the map I will be able to figure out where I am fairly quickly, because I have played this game that long. And a lot of other players are the same, and pretty much all players become that way eventually if they pay any attention as they travel. I just don't see the point except to force people into taking longer to do what they want to do, in the most arbitrary way possible. That's not adding challenge, that's just adding annoyance. And I can tell you from playing multiple maps in the mod, that regardless of where you spawn people are going to find a way to kill themselves as quick as possible. I've killed myself on tiny rocks =P -
Me and my buddy alens first time pvping in elecktro 19 kills total between us 2

I'd call it PKing not griefing. Griefing is the express intent to cause some one grief, and I'm talking beyond "boohoo you killed me and i lost my stuff :[" but harassing a guy to the point of making them upset irl. Maybe if you're purposefully popping them in the leg and making them crawl though... but I'd still say it'd take more than that. -
Spawns On The East, Bet Everyone Thought It Was Stupid...
Bororm replied to jacobahalls's topic in General Discussion
Most players have already explored the map, and some don't find it fun. They need to add more to do so people want to get out of the 1-2 cities, not keep changing the spawns. The point of DayZ is not to force experiences but to provide options. Most of the people sitting around pvping on the coast are people like me, who have been playing DayZ long enough to know the map. I have no interest in going to zelenogorsk or even the nwaf if there's nothing there for me. Randomly throwing me there with a new spawn just means I'm either going to kill myself if it's empty, or camp it like I would elektro or berezino or where ever. That's my point, there's no reason to change spawns right now because there's no purpose to the majority of the map. Until they address that issue, they're not doing anything meaningful by shifting spawns around. There's different playstyles, I'm not saying I'm the majority by any stretch but there is a good portion of DayZ players like me. Who have been playing DayZ since the mod, who know the map, and without incentive have no reason to "explore." There's also those who dig exploring any ways, and that's great but they're going to do it regardless of where they spawn. When it comes down to it, it's a balance issue. So I'm not even sure why they are bothering with it, when they don't give a shit about balance in any other aspect of the game. Implement the systems first, then balance. Add in loot respawn, add in persistent storage and then diversify the loot tables, so you actually have gear worthwhile at different parts of the map so you aren't able to get 99% of everything you need on the coast. Then you will see the population spread out, and people having a reason to visit the rest of the map. Just like the mod, but better because it will be all towns instead of just the airfields. -

Again, they need to add more than pvp to the game before they should make those sort of changes. I could see spawns around the whole map working when they hit their 150 player cap goal, and implement all the crafting/base building/vehicles and hunting/fishing etc. As it stands, what's the point? The game IS only PvP right now, whether people like it or not, and while I have every bit of hope and really believe they can turn it into something more, right now it's not. So why change these things now, and make the main fun of the game as it stands that much more of a pain? -

Bororm replied to jacobahalls's topic in General Discussion
I don't disagree, my point is that as long as you have multiple spawn locations and they are random, people are going to suicide till they get together. Giving people a timeout for that is a shitty way to curve the behavior. I'm of the opinion that any system in a game that punishes you by not letting you play at all is a pretty lousy approach though. Introductions of other methods to meet up would be better, ie Vehicles. I dunno what you mean by in the past, but since the mod people have always suicided to meet up. -
Ask the devs, that's why they changed the spawns to begin with because they made balota too appealing in loot. I think it's bullshit for the reasons you've stated, personally.

Bororm replied to jacobahalls's topic in General Discussion
People like to play in groups, and while it doesn't take all that long to run down the coast, it does take a while and there's no guarantee you won't just die on the way. It's a tricky topic because you do want some challenge, so you can't just let people spawn together, but to ignore the fact that people want to play together but don't want to spend the majority of their play time meeting up in the first place is silly. So until they figure it out, suiciding for better spawns is what we've got, and making shitty spawns for the current state of the game is just a bad idea. They really should have waited to change spawns till they had more of the game complete, because right now, I have no reason at all to want to be in 3 valleys, and even solichney when I could be in berezino or svet. I also have no reason at all to go to the west side of the map. All this change does is put people in Svet and Berezino instead of Elektro, before that all they did was move people from Balota to Elektro, but at least during that time there were spawns all across the coast. I thought this is supposed to be MY story, so why are they so determined to dictate my experience by influencing my starting position so strongly. Did anyone even really care when Balota was such a hot spot? You either went there for fights/to die or got something out of it, if you died you respawn some where else along the entire coast. I feel people actually used more of the map before they started pushing everyone east, and I don't see that changing by pushing people even further east. This entire issue is trying to solve a problem (Balota/spawn tables) in the worst way possible. Address the source, quit trying to sweep the dirt under the rug. Or at the very least hold off until the game is more complete, and the spawns actually make more sense. -
Until they actually add things to do besides pvp, dayz is currently a pvp game. So they should probably add in the systems to do other things first, and then change the spawns. I'm sure later down the line, when there's more to do than shoot people on the coast the new spawns won't suck, but that's not today, so why change the spawns now? Priorities imo.

How do you think DayZ Standalone is going?
Bororm replied to Zedertone's topic in General Discussion
I feel like they lack a bit of focus, and need to work on doing stuff less willy nilly. The new spawns suck and shouldn't have been changed until they have stuff like loot respawning and a higher server pop. I also feel like they need to treat stable branch as part of the alpha, instead of focusing so much on experimental. Things should hit experimental and be tested for a week or two at the most for the major bugs and then put onto stable. Stable is still alpha, it's meant to be a mess as well. Look at the last big patch, they waited a month or more to put it on stable and then it still had big issues, because it's just a totally different beast. So there's no point trying to perfect it on experimental first. I also think that they need to realize that while balance isn't that important right now, being alpha and all, it would still be nice if they'd spend even a little bit of time to make guns feel less like shit and even out some of the useless melee weapons. After all, regardless of if it's just alpha, people like a reason to play and while I don't mind quitting for weeks at a time (which I've done), it seems like a pretty minimal amount of effort to address some of these things. Initially I would agree that it was no big deal, but we're 4 months in now. Loot respawning should really be in too by now, it's a big deal. I know they're getting to all this stuff, but as it stands it's like a giant pot they're just tossing ingredients in, and it would be nice to see some sort of order to the madness because while I have no doubt the final product will be good, at the end of the day we're still playing the game right now, alpha or not. TL;DR: It's going fine, I think the end result will be good, but I think with a bit more focus and better priorities they could make the ride to the end product a lot more enjoyable. -
Too bad other players don't even render in without a scope past about half that distance. I miss going for long range shots with the enfield in the mod.
-
Is a longer view distance being worked on?
Bororm replied to frozenjaws's topic in General Discussion
The view distance is a lot greater than the mod, it's always super clear and you can see forever and I constantly wish I had a sniper gun =P The issue is without a scope (and potentially binocs) you currently can't see players/zombies very far. A person with a scope can see you past a certain point (like 400-500m) and you can't see them. So I agree that players should render in further, I also think they should bring back the "focus" zoom when using a weapon. As it stands, unless you have a scope, most engagements are hardly past even 200m, usually much closer 100m or less. In the mod you could engage people with iron sights fairly easily up to 300m and even further with enough practice, which was a lot more interesting imo. For instance, in the mod a person without a scope had a much better chance of dislodging a player from the hospital roof in elektro from the hills, good luck with that now. -
They made balota have too much god damn loot and now they are constantly fucking the spawns to try to make up for it, instead of fixing the source. Why not take out most of that military crap they put at balota and move it to the neaf. The map used to have very excellent map flow, you spawned on the coast and made your way north whether it be nwaf, neaf, or stary. No one likes berezino, it's all spread out and shitty for pvp. People liked elektro and cherno, they felt good. Now there's no reason to go to cherno either, as it has shitty loot compared to most other towns since it lacks a school and some other potential military spawns. I don't think that their new spawns won't work, I think they're just really boring and until the population kicks off and loot actually respawns they outright suck. Who wants to go to 3 valleys and solichney?

Anyone else slightly annoyed that they went this route? I know initially the status messages were written such as "Your leg hurts" "You feel hungry" "You feel wet" etc Which to me makes more sense and is preferable. I don't know about anyone else, but I play the game as if my character is myself to some degree and not some separate entity that I'm just controlling (with the odd exception of when I get stuck in some animation I don't want and start yelling about how "my guy decided to fucken vault for no reason" or whatever). It makes more sense for the game to be telling me I'm wet or whatever than for my guy to be telling me from that perspective. I know initially the messages were written as the game telling you, instead of your character and then some bozo convinced Rocket to go the other route. I suppose I'd just like an option, that way both sides could be happy, I know it's not any sort of priority but it'd be nice to have the choice because it does bring me out of the game just that little bit, and makes me feel like I'm controlling some little chatter box of a character who does a lot of moaning.
-
For those who need their eyes checked. Right, I'm my character, so my character shouldn't be telling me what I'm thinking, I already know what I'm thinking. The game should be telling me what's happening to me. I get that some people like it that way too though, which is why I'd prefer it to be an option either or. It doesn't seem terribly difficult to do. Again, I'm talking down the line, for all the other people having a fit.

I'd like a normal m16 over an ar-15, they look cooler. More long, badass looking rifles in general pls.

For whatever reason Frankie hates the SA and it's obvious in all his videos of it. He is also pretty ignorant of the game in general and clearly doesn't follow the development in any reasonable capacity. A perfect example is in one of his videos he drops an item, doesn't give it time to actually load in and claims the game is a buggy mess and ate his item. Even in that latest video, he says the guy's wall hacking and shit, but then you see the guy out the door clearly just aiming through the open doors at them inside. He does seem to be speed hacking, but my point is Frankie is quick to jump to conclusions and to put things down, rather than doing any sort of testing or research. The short of it is, I wouldn't base my judgement on the SA off a video of a guy who is both ignorant and already biased towards hating the game. The game is early alpha and shit like tackling hackers and some of the more minor bugs is hardly on the table. Frankie's videos were a lot better when he had less commentary because his stupid is showing as of late, and his ego is through the roof.

Turn off head bob and motion blur, adjust your FOV and all that sorta shit.
-
You should do a little more than look at a guy with your weapon down if you want a friendly response imo. Did you wave or anything? Try to talk to him? I'm not blaming you for shooting him, but it sounds like you're blaming him for aiming at you. You need to make more effort if you want friendly encounters and put yourself at risk, not expect other people to put themselves at risk. Trust is a two way street, and you gotta make the effort too. Also, you could have just ran away =P I mean the choice is yours, but take responsibility for your actions, this is your choice to kill him, he didn't make you do anything.

Anyone else feel like stable branch is becoming pointless/neglected?
Bororm posted a topic in General Discussion
I can understand that they got a bit scared releasing a few pretty unstable patches to the stable branch, but it is alpha after all. The thing that gets me is that at this point stable branch is beginning to feel a bit pointless as their main focus seems to be on shoving stuff into experimental. At this point stable is probably going to get patched with something that hit experimental a couple weeks ago, and the gap between the two is just going to become larger and larger, as additions pile up on experimental. I just don't really see the point of an alpha of an alpha to this extent. Especially considering that regardless of how stable they think their patch actually is, we all know that when it hits the huge population of stable branch the flaws are going to become prevalent and it's going to be more issues for them to resolve yet again. I don't think it's any secret that experimental is actually just as stable if not more so than the actual Stable branch. I haven't played the game since the last major patch, and I'm the sort of person who absolutely loves DayZ. I'm not really complaining about that, I don't mind waiting (honestly), and I could just play experimental myself, I'm just wondering if anyone else feels the same. That it just seems like stable is basically being neglected at this point. I think most people can deal with messed up patches in an alpha, and I'd just like to see a speedier process between the two, because otherwise what's the point of playing anything besides experimental? TL;DR: It seems like they're spending too much time adding/fixing stuff to experimental, when they are just going to have to address the issues that come from patching it to stable any ways. I feel like they should shorten the gap between patching over, because otherwise we may as well all just be playing experimental instead as it is usually more stable than the actual stable branch and has all the latest content quicker. I understand the purpose of experimental, I just don't think they are using it quite right by prioritizing it over the stable branch.- 22 replies

Anyone else feel like stable branch is becoming pointless/neglected?
Bororm replied to Bororm's topic in General Discussion
Yeah I really don't mean to come across as "RUghhh stop delaying my patches" I am just legitimately starting to feel like there's becoming a lack of purpose to stable. When I say experimental is itself stable, I mean it's about as stable as the stable branch is. You can experience crashes and pretty gnarly bugs and character wipes in stable as well, so what's the difference really. I understand the purpose of testing out a patch with a smaller population to nail out the more dominant issues before releasing to the larger public, but what I'm saying is that maybe they should go back to that 1 week gap or 2 if they have to, but set some sort of hard goal. Because as it stands, patches/fixes are piling up on experimental that are just pushing stable farther and farther back. Another thing that just lends credence to my opinion that stable is being a bit neglected is that when people bring up issues about crashes or being unable to even play their character etc, Rocket has personally responded by telling them "oh that's fixed on experimental, just go play experimental." So again, I'm not saying either branch is pointless, I'm just saying stable feels very neglected and I think they should regain focus on treating it as part of their alpha which it is. -
I'm hoping for an old timey looking telescope to go with the current compass too.

I feel like they fucked up the dispersion/accuracy on the magnum with this last patch, anyone else notice the same? It feels almost as bad as the fnx was now. I mean maybe it was always this bad, but it felt a lot more accurate before. The distance Grouping And closer Distance Grouping
