I avoid using it because it has 0 style points, but every now and then it's the only gun I've got and I've become a recent convert. I thought it was shit based on the dispersion before, but now I realize that when you can shoot 60 rounds or have the right parts, it really doesn't matter how many shots miss because a few are going to hit and that's all it really takes. Personally I think the mag sizes should be nerfed. At the very least coupled mags should require a reload.

How many of you find a handgun before ever finding a rifle?

I think pistols do need a bit of a bump, the only place to reliably find them currently is firestations and jails/mil buildings. So basically firestations and airfields. Occasionally the schools. One of the bigger issues imo is the lack of pistol mags too, you may find a pistol in a firestation/school but you're less likely to find the exact mag for it, meaning you need to go to the airfields just to load your pistol. I agree that they should be bumped up into more residentials, maybe some of the actual house buildings because I feel in large part many of those are just skipped over. -
Weapons need to spawn with atleast 1 magazine in them.

I'm fairly certain they don't sell guns with magazines already inserted, empty or not. And guns don't come off the assembly line with a magazine in them either. -

Why is pvp and gunfights so bad in stand alone?

I'm not suggesting that, don't be an idiot. -

The gun is more accurate because the recoil is removed in those videos. -

It's really not. If it were, it'd would be like a gun with an internal magazine/cylinder etc. It's designed as a separate part of the gun, and it's not unheard of for guns to be sold without magazines. Hell, for that matter, do you really think they manufacture a magazine along with every gun created? Ridiculous comparison. -

It looks like a really lousy implementation to me. There's no animation or any indication you're resting your gun, besides a small jerk and a huge accuracy increase. The gun isn't interacting with the environment in any different way. It would take a lot of effort to make it look good, and I'd rather they do it right than just throw in sloppy bonuses because hey, you're next to an object. -

If this is what you are referring to it looks like a pretty lousy system, and nothing like RO. The gun isn't even interacting with the environment, it's just getting a bonus and "sticking" to objects. In case you haven't noticed, the SA isn't about half-assing in new systems like a mod. They'd most likely have to redesign all the interiors. When was the last time you actually stuck your gun out a window in dayz? I don't just mean aim out it, but actually stick your gun out it. Also consider how many objects in the world you actually shoot over in a scenario where it would be appropriate to rest your gun on them. There really aren't a lot, the map isn't designed with using cover in that regard in mind. Red Orchestra is built from the ground up with that mechanic in mind is all I'm saying, and while it would be cool seems like a huge oversimplification. -
They've said they're going to add it, but to the gun itself like you mentioned. I just don't think it's a priority for them right now, as they don't care much about weapon balance/tweaks in general. And the compass is awesome, I'm all for more immersive systems, there should be as little hud as possible. I think you should manually have to check your mags as well, as they initially said it would be. I'm hoping that's still on the table.

I was thinking this the other day, I'd like to see them added as well down the line. Hell they can even make you cough for all I care.

Because it's pretty complex and the entire game is built around it, where as arma/dayz is not? I'm referring to the weapon resting mechanics primarily. -

I think every can of food should spawn with a can opener. -

Speaking of bullet speed, rounds seem to travel slower than arma 2 as well which also plays a factor. -

I think besides pistol mags, mags should be less common than they currently are. As it stands there's a huge overabundance of m4 mags, and I also feel they shouldn't spawn with bullets already in them. Ammo/mags should be something you're excited to find, so there should be enough that you can reliably find one in the vicinity of where you'd find the gun, but not a ton more than that. Any where that spawns the gun should have a chance of spawning the mag in the vicinity, but it shouldn't be guaranteed, and definitely shouldn't be IN the gun already. -
It's both people's fault, the creator and the user =P

Some one mentioned they are going to have 75 round drum mags for the akm. Am I the only one that thinks they should really limit the assault rifle mag sizes? I think the 60 round m4 mags are ridiculous, primarily in the sheer amount of rounds you can fire, but also because taping 2 mags together shouldn't function that way. Even 40 rounds is pushing it imo, and I'd rather see just 30 and lower. 75 for an AKM is going to be ridiculous, that's approaching machine gun levels of fire. There really needs to be some sort of drawback at least.

I think at the very least, without a rear sight you shouldn't be able to zero your weapon. Also, I think that sight is ugly =P And I think people who take off the rear sights on the m4 and only use the front sight should go to hell

I think it's some of the things covered already. The dispersion means there's a large element of chance when shooting at longer ranges. The current lack of zoom while aiming down sights means unless you have a scope, most engagements are 200m or less, and more likely 100m or less. In the mod you were very capable of engaging people easily at 300m with iron sights. There's also a lot more urban fighting in the SA since all the buildings are enterable, and with lag/desync and people drifting through walls etc it just makes for some really shitty engagements imo. I think it's still fun, and I feel like while the lag etc in towns is shitty, the movement itself actually feels better than the mod so I think once they tidy it up the urban cqb stuff will be better. I'm glad they've got ironsight zoom on experimental now, I haven't tried it but that ought to help a lot too. Eventually they'll work on balancing/fixing guns so that should be great as well. Sounds are wonky as fuck too, it's hard to pinpoint gunshots like the mod. Sometimes you don't even hear shots if you aren't facing them. And sound effects in general aren't so great, many of the guns lack ooomph. I think it's just a work in progress, they don't actually give a shit about gunplay and pvp in the alpha right now. -
NEAF is pretty active, been having a ton of squad fights up there lately. It's a lot of fun, but since the majority of spawns are located in the top corner of the map now it means that berezino, svet, and neaf are the only places to be and always fighting in the same place gets dull. Berezino easily turns into a clusterfuck when squads wipe because they run straight back, neaf is just far enough that people run straight back as well but at least is slightly more interesting than literally spawning on the spot. Svet has a lot of camera (camera clipping through things, your character turning invisible etc) and fps issues I find. The game offers nothing beyond pvp right now for people who come from the mod/who have been playing for a while. There's no reason to go inland for loot either. The new spawns just distill all the action into the NE corner of the map, which is both good and bad. Since there's nothing to do but pvp right now, it makes getting back to your team/getting to the action a lot quicker, but obviously it's less than ideal for promoting more use of the map. So yeah, Berezino, especially coastal/northern Berezino and NEAF.

I think they look cool, they go with the compass. I'm sure eventually they'll add variations of all this stuff, but I dig the rustic look. In fact I was personally hoping for an old school looking spyglass myself, so this is the next best thing! This is a nice surprise considering rocket made a fuss about how it was oh so difficult to add binocs on reddit not that long ago.

It's still a lot of effort to hide a good stash and fill it, and it WILL get found eventually, the map isn't as big as it seems. As noted above, time spent adding loot to your stashes is time spent playing. Instead of sitting around camping the airfield, you're actively looting it or whatever. It's like gearing up multiple times per life instead of just once. It worked fine in the mod, and gives players something to do. It also helps to settle players on to specific servers, which regardless of how much you actually interact with each other personally does build a minimal sense of community, encountering the same usual players. It's a highly positive thing.

Like others have said as long as turning your graphics down to shit detail is a thing, some people are always going to have an advantage assuming you personally don't want your game to look like shit. Personally I turned all my trees+grass to max, but I sure don't trust bushes and pine trees for concealment any more.

It's placeholder, they've said as much. Damages will be adjusted at some point, and sometimes already not everything is outright ruined. I think it's good, it gives you something extra to do even as a bandit. It means you don't just kill a guy and instantly get a full set of gear, unless you're careful about it, which promotes looting legitimately as well. It gives a benefit to holding guys up instead of shooting them, and it also rewards accuracy for making headshots or legshots. It also plays a role in inventory management, of having to put at least a little bit of thought into how you distribute your gear among your slots. I think it's a great system with lots of potential and already serves a good purpose.

In the mod the coastal spawns created good map flow, as you went inland/north to get better loot then return to the coast to use it. The SA mixed a bunch of shit up like putting balota and all its mil spawns on the coast, and has very little reason for looting major portions of the map yet as loot tables don't promote it. I think until they sort out loot respawn, and proper loot tables they should quite frankly just leave spawns alone because constantly shuffling them around is pointless. Spawns are as much of a balance issue as anything, and when they don't give a shit about balance in other regards to the game yet they shouldn't be bothering with spawns imo. Down the line I could see it working but just don't see a point in the current state of SA.
