Something I must get off my chest....
Bororm replied to OfficerRaymond's topic in General Discussion
I'm not trying to be rude, but I just don't know what answer you want. It's true that it's difficult to find a place with all the information together, but it's something you need to invest effort into if you actually care. The short answer, that you don't want to accept, is exactly what people tell you. It's alpha, the game is in development. 2 years is not unheard of for an alpha, game development takes time. The engine was gutted and remade, the game was started from scratch. Before early access and before the trend of allowing players to play during active development, people weren't as aware of the length it took to make a game. Look up the development time of original titles (not talking rehashes like the CoDs and battlefields they kick out yearly). Your thread isn't anything unique or new, and it comes up daily. So I'm sorry, but people (or at least myself) are tired of answering the same exact questions over and over again. Maybe some one else is feeling more sympathetic/patient. -

All your questions have been answered a near infinite amount of times. The information is out there, go do some research. -
This bug sounds really familiar. I feel like it was either in the SA or possibly back in the mod that it would happen. You could be killed where you spawned in (your character just standing there) even as you ran around invisible/able to interact with folk. What a drag.
-
Because of the speed the sword hits at (if you don't miss), and the way zombies stagger now, it's actually pretty decent for killing zombies so I'll give it that.
-
Swords are spawning, seem decently rare. The one that I had was from the castle tower itself. In previous patches the gatehouse seemed to have the best results for me, then stairs, and towers being the lowest. I've only seen one so far this patch though, so hard to judge.
-
Wasn't a fan of the change myself, I thought the flashlight was a good tutorial for new players.
-
To be honest I haven't done any rigorous testing on it this patch, but my limited use against a couple guys and some zombies seemed pretty inline with how it was last patch. I intend to use it till I die at least, so if I get any better information out of it I'll be sure to update. With flashbangs being pretty common as well as possible potential with smoke grenades I'm semi hopeful to get some action with it =P As to the stone knife, it seems like a really good weapon. I've used it to pretty great effect on the coast, I'd say aside from an axe it's likely one of the best melee weapons you could use. You've essentially got the ease/precision of punching but also cause bleeding.

My experience in .58 was multiple magnum shots required to kill cows. Maybe 2-3.
-
My experience hasn't been the same as you folk. Granted, I play with friends, but even running around solo it hasn't been too difficult to get a car going. Tires and parts are pretty abundant. So are the vehicles themselves. Maybe I've just been lucky though.

For anyone curious, the damage still sucks. At least you can look cool with your helmet too now though.

Those are sensible points. We do see the very basic implementation of crafting though, even if the advanced crafting is reliant on the new UI. They aren't scrapping what they have as far as I know, but building on it as they further the tech. I think the FPS issue is fairly unlikely, and considering how they keep adding huge structures to cities with already crappy FPS I doubt that's a real concern of theirs =P It would be helpful if the devs would just tell us what the hold ups are so we don't have to speculate. Regardless of all else, I think they're going to have a rough time getting it in and especially balancing it in such a short amount of time. That's my main point.

I didn't bother to read your post because your first sentence demonstrates you have no clue what you're talking about. base building is not reliant on the renderer. the "new engine" is not some separate entity to be merged, it's what they've been working on/creating all along. i'm not saying they should have rushed it, i'm saying like many other major systems (weapons, clothing, farming, vehicles, crafting, melee, animals, everything) the foundation should have been put in much earlier so they could build upon it like everything else they've done. Btw in regards to this https://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/220448-precise-object-placement/This is from february.

It's interesting but slugs are already on the agenda.

So far the off road seems to switch gears randomly. It will throw itself into reverse and squirrel out. Occasionally getting straight up stuck in reverse. This is the experience myself and two others have had any ways.

Another Hive Wipe for 0.59...? If so why?
Bororm replied to 97ADU Doug's topic in General Discussion
Duping is outrageous right now, that alone is enough reason. -
Oh don't get me wrong, I have hope and I'm glad they're working on it. I just think it was a mistake on their part to do it last. The one thing that I could see holding up base building was persistence, which is another thing they should have gotten in the game a lot earlier on. These are vital systems to make the game more than an inconsequential deathmatch.
-
That's what I'm saying though. The new renderer, and player animations have nothing to do with a system to place objects. Maybe that's tied into the UI, but I don't really think so in the sense that the mechanic is reliant upon a particular UI. It's the foundation of the mechanic that they should have gotten in, because as soon as we're allowed to start manipulating objects in the world to that degree a whole lot is going to change. That's the same approach they've taken to everything else. We see the very basic implementation of each system early on so they can build on it later. This is the exception where they haven't done that and are waiting till last. It's going to have such an impact that it's just foolish imo, especially given their track record of breaking things. We're approaching beta, with launch soon after and realistically if they keep to schedule at the current update rate, that leaves room for probably about 2-3 more patches. A few months to put in base building. Look at a game like Rust where base building was one of the major focuses, implemented from the start, and the constant changes that are being made to it. There's a reason that most games don't even touch housing/base building. It's super complex, both in mechanics and especially in balance. There's just no real sense to think waiting was a good idea. It's not reliant on any of the upcoming systems to the point of making it a good idea to wait.
-
I don't think that necessarily applies. None of those 3 things really affect putting in the foundations for this system. It's like how they got vehicles in before those, how they got complex weapons in early and all these things. The basic mechanics for base building should have been implemented very early, because they're going to have an enormous impact on everything else. It's arguably the most complex system that's going to be in the game. Waiting to get even the foundation of that in last, when their policy on everything else was the opposite, just doesn't really make sense. It's basically the opposite of what you're saying, this is going to cause them more problems.
-
Base building. They need to get it in and start working on it, as it's going to be one of the most difficult things to do right. Why they decided to do it basically last, I don't know. I think it was a mistake. If it's not in .60 I'm gonna be pretty disappointed at this point.

First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
Bororm replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I personally think the topic should be banned from the forums. People are too unreasonable and nothing new or important ever becomes of it. It's amazing that these discussions are allowed but ones about stuff like hacking aren't. -
I've suggested it numerous times when Hicks is doing Q&A now, but they need to give a chance to pull a full chicken out of coops!

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The 1pp people who bitch so much ironically have tunnel vision and can't look at anything from an angle other than their own. -

It's an idiotic idea to make public servers 1pp only. You can't force people to like something, give it up. The result will be public servers being empty and everyone having to play private. The downside of that is having to deal with potentially corrupt admins, servers going down due to lack of funding, and other nuances. I like playing good private hives, but they're usually few and far between. It's always been my hope for DayZ that there'd be a point where I don't need to play a private server because the public ones would be secure and good enough not to. Essentially this becomes less about 1pp vs 3pp and forcing people to make the choice of public or private. -
Anybody els noticed the m249 Para is comming?
Bororm replied to [Outcasts]Massacre's topic in General Discussion
I remember one time a buddy and I both had SAWs and just went full auto, 200 rounds each for 400 total, on some poor sap hiding under one of those impenetrable trees. We knew we weren't actually going to hit him till he got out from it, but I can just imagine how he must have felt from that. -

Yeah, I'm hopeful. Which was my original point though, that I would really prefer they'd waited till those systems are in place. Gews does have a point as well however, and ultimately it's not going to make a huge difference one way or the other, especially with all the other automatics already in place. I just personally feel that holding off on high capacity mags and weapons (they recently announced a drum mag shotgun as well) would potentially be a better way to go about things. There's no real reason to add more ways/incentive to the sprint and spray predominance already in place. But then again, it's alpha and they don't give a shit about balance at this point of development.
