  1. You need to raise your "fists," in this case the binocs, by hitting spacebar. It's really buggy, I don't think it's intentional as Irish is implying, it's just that your point of vision is through the binocs regardless of if they are raised or not. Some times you raise your fists and they don't actually go up either, in which case you need to try to take a step forward, that should fix it and pop them up proper. As for the magnification I think it's fine really. Maybe they'll eventually add different types of binoculars with varying degrees of zoom but for now I don't see an issue, and it provides a nice balance against LRS as mentioned.

    Parachuting...

Don't think anyone was advocating the parachutes spawning in the helicopters themselves so far, though I personally don't see what's wrong with it. We're not talking about pilots being issued parachutes here, we're talking about survivors grabbing parachutes before getting into an aircraft, and being able to store said parachute in the aircraft. The mod allowed you to access vehicle inventory while inside, so no reason not to here. The only difference from the mod that this discussion is basically talking about is having parachutes as a separate item. I don't know about a crashing helicopter and not being able to bail out which seems to be what you're discussing, but there's no reason passengers shouldn't be able to do it in a functional helicopter. I think it's bordering on too nitpicky for the sake of gameplay to say the pilots can't too at that point, and seems like too much hassle to make it not work specifically during a crash. Was anyone really up in arms about this in the mod? It's about authenticity not realism, as Rocket likes to say.

    Parachuting...

Separate parachutes would be badass imo. I like the idea of being able to stick them in the helicopter and access them in flight as well, would be nice. Would create some interesting scenarios too having to decide to give up your pack for a chute. I think you should have to manually pull them. I think they've got a place in the game as long as there are air vehicles. They could spawn in hangers or something. Even come in different colors/types if ya wanted to get real fancy =P

    Favorite Form Of Banditry?

Put the old clothes switcheroo plan into action today. My buddy and I spawned in at solichney and saw 2 armed dudes, one with a crossbow the other with an m4 We wanted to try and punch them out, and tried to sneak up but they spotted us both. They were actually pretty friendly and offered us food/drinks. We changed our minds about trying to knock them out since they were cool, although we both really sorta wanted to any ways because we didn't want sol spawns and because, well, we're just like that. Another guy showed up with a shovel, and the two armed guys decided to head out. We decided to knock out shovel guy, and then I decided to grab his clothes/shovel and have my friend run ahead claiming shovel guy had knocked me out, and was chasing him. He caught up to crossbow guy, m4 guy was no where in sight, and started telling him how "shovel guy" had killed "white shirt guy" (me). While they were talking I came up behind him and knocked him out. My buddy told me I should put on all his clothes too, so I did. His crossbow was bugged out unfortunately, but I had his fire axe. The dudes were on voice coms of course, so the ruse didn't really work there of impersonating his buddy, and when m4 guy started heading back he was obviously in an attack sort of stance. I waited around a corner for him but he saw me and took some shots at me. I made it around the next corner and figuring he'd think I ran for it and would chase, I waited and sure enough he came bolting after me. Rounded the corner and managed to kill him too. So in the end I got to kill them, and they were probably none the wiser, thinking it was "shovel guy" on a rampage. Unless they see this of course but oh well!

The take on helicopters thing is a nice middle ground because at least from videos I've seen you need to know the process involved to start the thing up. Like Irish says, even in the mod people were crashing helicopters all the time (I crashed my first few before bothering to actually learn what I was doing) and that was even with auto hover as an option. You can skip about halfway through. I don't know the first thing about how to fly a helicopter and if I jumped in this thing in game I'd probably never get it going just doing random shit. So you learn what's required and you get better at it. They could even include in game manuals, though most people are just gonna watch videos/tutorials any ways, that's unavoidable. Sure eventually most people will know exactly what to do, just like how in the mod most people eventually were able to fly, but there's a higher learning curve and it adds something to the game. Having to flip switches and shit while being under fire would be amazing. I'd also note that the engine is a modification of take on helicopters to begin with, so I may be totally off base here and maybe they gutted the thing since they gutted vehicles, but I'd like to hope it could be implemented with not too much difficulty.

My guy was a helicopter mechanic and pilot before the apocalypse. Problem solved. That link has basically nothing to do with anything in terms of practicality either. I'm honestly not sure why you even linked it. Basing in game things around what the average person can or can not do is silly. The whole point of a video game is to play out a fantasy. Otherwise you may as well just put computers and video games, in the game itself, and let us sit on our asses in game as well.

    Mosin Compensator

Pretty sure the compensator just makes the thing shoot straighter in game, because that's the way attachments currently work. Has nothing to do with the animation, just reduces the spread/makes it more accurate.

Some of the helicopter hate I used to see was making the map too "small" and being too easy to spot tents. Hopefully they figure out a better system to do tents because the tents in the mod sorta sucked any ways, in their implementation. Base buildings gonna be a lot more elaborate and should be designed with helicopters in mind too. Helicopters fit the setting, there's already crashed/burnt out helicopters around the map. There's military zombies as well, and airfields. Hell, there's helipads.

Discussion on the "Hide body" option

You can do the ruining part. I often shoot bodies again for that purpose, since I'm generally too lazy to axe. Otherwise I might pull off mags and either just go scatter them about or use the throw feature for kicks. I agree though, I'd rather see a removal of the hide idea completely, and have to manually drag them as stated. Considering Rocket gave the example himself of being able to drag bodies once they get ragdolls in, here's hoping that's the direction they go. It does seem like a sort of "trivial" issue they may overlook though. A problem I find with the devs is that they care little for issues related directly to pvp, as for the most part it doesn't seem like they actively participate in such things.

    Mosin Compensator

Some times they will spawn basically in the ground, in places like the school or the atc etc. Make sure you scan places with your inventory up, to see items that are clipped into the floor.

I think they should use the take on helicopters system for helicopters. Where there's a fairly complex start up procedure. Helicopters did make the map a lot smaller in the mod, but so did any other vehicle and they offered a good "end game." Finding a helicopter and repairing it could take some effort, and cool fights usually resulted from it. They weren't all that powerful besides transport and were a huge target for anyone around the map. It just offered a whole lot of fun scenarios. I'd like to see some small planes make it in as well. The biplanes were really cool in the mod, and a bit less practical than the helicopters. Helicopters have been all but confirmed, but I'd bet they'll be more towards the end of alpha.

    Castles no more?

They'll tweak loot tables I'm sure and perhaps helicopters will spawn there again once those get added back in, like in the mod. I think that sort of thing is going to come in beta, when they balance stuff. I personally think they should add a really rare spawn broadsword or something to one of the castles =P I know it's not realistic, you're not gonna find that shit still sitting in a castle, but it would be fun!

    Rocket's Answers to Reddit Questions

Nice to gather all this info up, thank you. In general I advocate people who are actually interested in the development of the game to just search reddit for rocket2guns, you'll get an easy list of all his posts. That probably could be done for other devs as well, I'm not entirely sure how active they all are but I believe hicks is fairly active as well. http://www.reddit.com/user/rocket2guns The other thing to do is to check their twitters. https://twitter.com/dayzdevteam I think it's shitty personally that you have to scour multiple sources to keep up to date, and they should hire some one to compile all this info but really there's no excuse if you're genuinely interested in development as to not being able to keep up. Almost every question/topic I see on this forum is something that's already been addressed.

    Anyone else name their guns?

I haven't named mine but I've thought about it and made the suggestion in the past that it would be cool to be able to label items or at least weapons. Sure you'd probably end up with a lot of really stupid stuff involving tons of derogatory language, but it would still be fun and offer some more attachment towards gear. Definitely have had occasions where my group has tried to hang on to some particular weapon, to the point of it's the last man standing's job to get the thing if all goes south. Makes for a fun little goal.

Discussion on the "Hide body" option

Tell that Buddhist monk who self immolated that you can't burn a human body with gasoline. We're not talking about cremation here, we're talking about desecrating a corpse to the point of basic uselessness. Are you gonna want to grab "gear" off a guy who's just been burnt to a crisp? The smell alone would probably keep you away. Honestly I don't even really like the idea of burning bodies, it's just that it makes more sense than waving your hand and having them disappear and the items required are already in the game or coming.
  18. Bororm

    your choice in weapons?

That may all be well and true, but in the end, the m4 still has no style points =P To each their own though! If everyone used the cooler guns they'd cease to be cool as well I suppose!

    Favorite Form Of Banditry?

Ahh well I believe you, and it's good to know. I just thought I'd seen some where that it was actually basically for that purpose, of disinfecting food, which I know doesn't really make sense but I figured it was just shitty implementations of some game design they had. Any ways, that sounds like good times. That sort of poisoning that's sneaky and tricky I can get behind. It wasn't in the SA, but in the mod I once had a shoot out in a market that left me with broken legs. I saw a guy run by the front so I asked him for help. He actually came in and saved me, but I really wanted to shoot him for some reason (I know it's dick of me, but whatever!) but didn't want him to know I was gonna betray him. Then a second guy came in. So I went out the back of the market and I swapped my clothes and came back in and shot the second guy, but the first had gone outside already. We had a little bit of a gunfight and I was so nervous I would lose and that he'd be able to check my body and figure out it was me. Luckily I won =P I actually ended up telling him about it later on the forum for the server we were on, and he said it was no big deal and thought it was pretty sneaky of me. There's probably some fun to be had with swapping around clothes in the SA and banditry.

    Favorite Form Of Banditry?

If I'm not KOSing I'm generally pretty nice about robbing folk, I let them keep their guns usually (though I typically take their ammo) and just take what I need, which usually isn't much as I'm not a pack rat. I don't really find it fun to force feed people poison, or fucking with them, because you're effectively killing them. I also don't like handcuffing people either typically. I've done both, but the novelty wore off quickly. To each their own though, and I aint judging, it's just I try to go by what would be fun for me if I were the victim. When I've been in situations where people pull out the handcuffs or disinfectant spray I'd rather just die, personally. So when I hold people up and rob them I try to make it as "friendly" as possible. I do like your idea of handing out poisoned food, though I'm not entirely sure disinfectant works like that? Whatever people find fun, the more original the better imo. Steak and Potatoes that sounds like good times.

Will the new AKM suck ?

It'll hopefully mean a better system in the future, it just sucks having to wait.

    Play Style

The only drawback to playing as they add these features is that you become accustomed to them one at a time, so that total sense of wonder that you get from first starting a game kinda goes out the window. I already lost that in the mod for DayZ, but I can't help but feel if I'd wait till the SA actually releases into beta or final release it would be a whole new experience once again. But fuck that, I can't wait, I'm having too much fun already =P

Will the new AKM suck ?

With the mosin and maybe the blaze you may be right, but the other guns including the sks are not very accurate at all in the SA. I don't think anyone is asking for laser accuracy, but it really is rolling the dice shooting something like the m4 past even a couple hundred meters, unless you meet some pretty big prerequisites (bipod, mp parts, prone). The game already has weapon sway, I think it could be increased a bit, and crouching could use more of a bonus over standing etc. I'd just like something closer to arma 2 at the end of the day, and I'm pretty sure that's why most people are upset about it, because coming from that it's total shit. I think people do exaggerate it a bit though, to the point of saying these guns are useless or whatever when that's not really the case but really it's pretty bad. It all needs to be tweaked and balanced, but again, they simply don't care right now. It sucks, but it's the way it is, balance is not something they're currently interested in. So unless they decide to do it as a side project we have no choice but to be patient and make the best of what we got.

    New zombies, Soon?

Yeah I guess I guess you're probably right, but I'm just a bit skeptical. We'll find out eventually!
  25. Bororm

    New zombies, Soon?

Honestly I think when zombie path finding is fixed they're going to be easier. Right now zombies are only a "threat" because they warp through walls and get in the floor and shit. If they actually have to use doorways, and walk around fences and don't clip into shit any more I think they're going to become easier not harder. It's something I always kinda wonder about people who go on about how once zombies are fixed they're going to be so difficult. We'll just have to wait and see though.
