open inventory, scan environment, rinse and repeat - how can we change loot- and scavenging? should we even?

I wasn't really referring to darkness, I was more referring to how already if an item is under a table/bed or something, your character must crouch to get it to show in the vicinity window. The game already takes into account a line of sight effect, where if your character can't "see" the item it doesn't show up. Similarly you can face your back to an item and not have it appear (though there is leeway there in the current system). Expanding on that so that the LOS was a bit more restrained and also tucking more items into hard to reach spots would make it a bit more involved. -
I agree, I just don't really feel zombies specifically are the answer (though they need a bit more than the current state). I think fleshing out mechanics like hunting and farming and crafting are the way to get people to be doing less killing. This patch I've spent a whole lot of time messing around with vehicles, that I otherwise would have been spending just looking for a fight. Things that can provide an alternative but also a benefit to whatever playstyle you prefer are the way to go, but the key thing is to make them optional. Which is why stuff like in the latest status report of diverging from scavenging canned goods to forcing players to hunt and farm sounds like a terrible approach to me and I think is one of the types of things that players like NexVentor probably doesn't want. If he's like me, I'd imagine he has no issue with hunting and farming and "pve" concepts, he just doesn't want to be forced into them just the same as those who might really enjoy those aspects more than pvp don't want to be forced into pvp. I could very well see farming just becoming the default thing to do for groups once bases are in as it will be a lot easier than scavenging, but it shouldn't be forced on that lone wolf player who has no interest in it from the start just because he can't find enough food looting. And I say this as some one who often farms too as it is because I do enjoy all the facets of this game.

The LOS mechanic of it could be expanded. It's already a case where some times you have to crouch to get an item to even appear in the inventory screen because your character's LOS is blocked. If it was tweaked a little it could be help to actually have to look for stuff. There's also the case of items being tucked into lockers, under tables, in cabinets etc which is underutilized currently. I think the vicinity tab is necessary, but I agree that looting could be a bit more involved. As it stands, looting in the mod probably left you more vulnerable even if the loot piles were more obvious. You were stuck in place with a clunkier menu system. I've always been of the opinion that the SA should retain that slight sense of panic from those clunky controls as the frustration and intensity that arose from it was a large part of what made the game interesting to begin with. -
The mod had a lot more zombies and various patches where infected were a real threat. All that happens is people find ways to exploit them to their advantage. You can make all the hoops you want to try to get "griefers" to jump through them, but they're just going to make other people jump through them too. And in the end who do you think is going to be more annoyed, the person out to cause annoyances to others or the people trying to avoid it to begin with? If some one doesn't feel like making friends, they're certainly not going to do it just because the game became arbitrarily more difficult. In fact, if anything bands players together in my experience it's fighting a common human enemy. That sniper in Elektro is going to cause fresh spawns to team up to take him out way more than extra zombies ever will.

Try putting it on the hotbar and loading from there. I've loaded ruined ammo, maybe it was a bug but it's worked. And yes it fired. I had this happen where my gun wouldn't fire, I gave it to a friend and it wouldn't fire for him either. He relogged and then it worked. The mag was pristine though I didn't bother ejecting it. There's no real reason why the ammo in the mags would have been ruined though. I guess the bottom line is it's buggy.
-
I believe they are redoing how ammo works, so that each individual round is its own item. Damaged ammo is going to have more effect in the future and actually mean something. As it stands, you can load ruined ammo into guns currently.

Your attitude doesn't really make any sense. You've stopped KOSing because you've "transcended" it, yet you have an incredibly toxic bias against it. It's great if you don't want to KOS, but why judge people that still do? You don't know their motivations, and their motivations shouldn't even concern you any ways. You go as far as hoping mechanics change to curve the behavior, to relish in diminishing other people's preferred playstyles. That sounds less like you "transcended" anything, and more that you are just full of yourself. As far as your anecdote which I don't even get the point of, I have a friend I play with who has not died since the patch hit. Has been in multiple fights and even held up. He also likes to KOS. (.59 stable not experimental)

Haha I realize it's just buggy but that's kinda ridiculous they let it through when it has those capabilities. As to car parts, I haven't had a single issue with the old UI. You can look in the hood to interact with the plugs/battery. Taking the tires off is just looking at them with the proper tools. The fact that the new UI lets you bypass those game mechanics (even if its just a bug) is pretty disappointing honestly.

Sounds like cheat codes to me =P
-
Biohaze you have not "transcended" KOS because you clearly have a strong bias towards it. If you really understood the game to be a sandbox you wouldn't make such childish remarks about those who choose to KOS. You're also reading a lot into stuff he isn't saying at all.

It's kinda weird because Hicks is actually lead producer, and Peter Nespesny is the lead designer. And if I'm not completely mistaken there's another guy entirely who is the Project Lead, which was Rocket's title I believe. Point being, I don't think Hicks should actually be making many decisions on game design but he seems to.

Repair all the tires. Don't go into 4th gear (I call it suicide gear).
-
It's pretty bad. Try looking around the body for the sweet spot, I've had cases where it's above the head etc. If you have a group member who wasn't actually present for the death they might also have more success as their client is likely to render the ragdoll in its actual location as I believe the problem is mainly the ragdoll moving from the actual death spot. Relogging doesn't really help, though it's some times worth a try.

People are typically kinda jerks, they likely tossed your stuff on the ground and loaded the barrels in the vehicles. Or maybe it was a bug. In my own experience, persistence has been working fine on the server I play.
-
Probably got found.

Yeah a good chunk of my play sessions with my group any more are getting vehicles unstuck. I personally find it a fun challenge, but they are definitely a mess. One of my friends (who was arguably our best driver) refuses to even drive this patch because of how wonky the mechanics are. It is nice to have goals though, but I do agree it will probably get old even for me pretty quick.
-
Even worn tires will sink a bit in my experience.
-
Can't repair v3s double tires currently. You can split them with a crowbar and repair them as singles, but you can't recombine them. It sucks, I guess the only option is to find new ones.
-
Were your wheels all pristine? I haven't driven a bus yet, but tire quality is very vital in this patch for every other vehicle.
-
I don't completely agree with this in terms of the game being a failure, but I do think the game has been taking a subtle (maybe not too subtle) change in tone since Rocket left. And my group has a running joke of blaming Hicks for everything bad these days. I think Hicks exerts too much of his personal bias into trying to create a particular experience for the player, even if he doesn't mean to. Rocket's design approach was much more throwing things into the game and letting players deal with it, where as the devs after he left seem very focused on creating a "game." I still enjoy the game though, and I think this patch has been pretty great.

You are incorrect.

Vehicles are persistent regardless. That tent is to store your vehicle, but considering the size of it and how obvious it is, I personally am not sure there's too much point. Perhaps when proper base building is a thing or if they add some sort of camo abilities it will become more useful. As far as I know, tents are reliably persistent. Everything that is meant to be persistent seems to be in my experience. Some one said the time is now reduced to 7 days from 45, and that you can refresh things through the menu. I haven't verified if that's the actual case myself.

My frames are the same in towns.

I did watch it. It just seems a bit redundant.

Just had this happen exiting a log cabin style house. So, not even elevated stairs, just the couple steps into the main house... Ugh.
