I posted this in another thread and have mentioned it before, but since I actually found the direct bit I figured I'd make an actual thread for it so people are more apt to see it. http://www.twitch.tv/hicks_206/b/526168389 21 minute mark My own shitty paraphrase So there ya have it, as mentioned before they want you to spawn east/north east and travel west for high end loot. Similar to going south to north in the mod. I feel this will work out eventually when they provide incentive ("high end" loot) at balota/nwaf/the mil camps but for the time being we're just going to have death matches where ever the spawns are. I think they should have left the spawns alone until they sorted out the whole map as well as the loot as I feel spawns are a balance issue as much as anything.

So how soon before the first DLC? And what effect will they have?
Bororm replied to rickyriot's topic in General Discussion
Fuck paid DLC. Besides, the game is going to be moddable, what's the point of paid DLC. -
I'd rather less rain myself. It's a bit excessive. Rainy days should be the exception, not sunny days.
-
I disagree, then you have even less reason to travel. You spawn at a place, the loot is random so you've got a high probability of getting everything you need, you have no real direction for better loot so why bother. The closest major towns become the hotspots because they have the most loot spawn points. You can't force "adventure" and "discovery."

Yeah I noticed that too. I actually really like that they relegated M4s only to crashes. I'm not sure they'll inspire quite enough incentive to go after them for the majority of people, but I'm sure it'll work on some folk. Once they have some cooler gear it'll work out nicely, heli crashes in the mod were a great way of getting people to roam around. Finding high end weapons and nvg as well as ghillie suits was fairly common at crashes, and they made nice little pvp hot spots around the map.

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
Bororm replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
They're still a non-issue so who cares? I think they've reverted them in experimental any ways, which will make its way to stable before long. -
I think you guys get too hung up on what these guys say and take it as gospel. It doesn't mean they wont add in different cartridges later.

Southern portion of map seem sparse these days?
Bororm replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
They'll most likely finally put worthwhile loot at the NWAF and Balota, as well as the other major western military bases. They've moved the m4 exclusively to heli crashes which from a map I saw seem to be primary in the west as well, although while I think some people probably have a hardon for the m4 I doubt it'll be enough real incentive yet. The thing is, until they do add good loot over there, there's no point. I really wish they would have left spawns alone till they sorted this shit out. -

Ugh it was in one of Hicks's streams and I don't know the exact point. I think he may have made tweets/reddit posts about it as well. This was the stream http://www.twitch.tv/hicks_206/b/526168389 NM I found it. It's around the 21 minute mark. Here's a paraphrase -
Ammo Calibration : Poll & Discussion
Bororm replied to stielhandgranate's topic in General Discussion
It's actually the entire reasoning behind their decision. It's extra work with very little payoff. -
Ammo Calibration : Poll & Discussion
Bororm replied to stielhandgranate's topic in General Discussion
You just described extra work. And if they don't differentiate the rounds some how in the models, whether it's just a texture change or not, it'll just lead to confusion. Also, they would have to configure the guns to the particular ammo types. If all you want is a label change then you're being extremely nitpicky for no actual purpose. -
Ammo Calibration : Poll & Discussion
Bororm replied to stielhandgranate's topic in General Discussion
Not really, they would need to either make new models or at least change the current ones, and change the way the ammo interacts with the current/additional guns. As well as change loot tables. All so that some nitpicky folk can have a miniscule difference of realism, that has no real affect on gameplay, except to make loot tables more convoluted. -

Because it cuts down on work, pure and simple. -

They moved the spawns because they want you to spawn east and travel west to balota/nwaf. Unfortunately, there's no reason at all to go there unless you've got a hardon for attachments, and even then it's hardly worth the trip. Until there's incentive to travel the map, there will be no reason to leave whatever major town is closest to the spawns. First it was cherno/elektro, now it's berezino. They should leave spawns alone until: -The map is done (why the fuck do we have spawns at a town that doesn't even exist yet???) -Loot tables are balanced/positioned properly (incentive to move, dictates where to put spawns for maximum traffic flow across the map) -base building shit get's actualized (who knows how this will affect spawns. do you want people spawning right on your base? I think that would be stupid, even if they are unarmed) And probably a myriad of other things. Spawning locations are an issue of game balance. So why are they fucking with it now? -
Ammo Calibration : Poll & Discussion
Bororm replied to stielhandgranate's topic in General Discussion
I personally don't really care about the little differences between similar ammos. I think I spend more time looking up guns and ammo types than your typical DayZ player too, if my group is any real indication. I still couldn't actually tell you the difference between 7.62x54mm and 7.62x51mm or whatever the fuck people are always complaining about with the mosin ammo. I wouldn't want an m4 shooting the same ammo as a mosin, but I don't see a problem at all with not getting super nitpicky with tiny variations. -
I think there's tons of little factors that go into it, resulting in basically random nonsense damage. Distance, items, item condition, item type, weapon. Could be the difference between a pristine pair of sunglasses or not. I check everybody I shoot, regardless.
-
All head gear stacks up to reduce damage. So if you're wearing say, a hat, glasses, and a mask or whatever, each one of those will reduce damage to an extent. I'm pretty certain this is why they removed the ability to wear gas masks with helmets.
-
Weapons have always had sway. Holding right click will "hold breath" and steady your weapon for a bit. I like the sway in arma, it is random but you can still "fight" it. Especially on scopes. Feels fine to me, if anything I think it should be increased even more for moving (already does, would like more), to encourage people not to sprint around so much.
-
Damage is weird shit in this game. I like a bit of uncertainty I guess, but some of the stuff is a bit silly.
-
I know it doesn't necessarily make sense, but imo you should be able to at least vault again while your legs are broken, like you used to be able to. So you can hobble over rails or other obstacles, get up stairs/through certain doorways etc. I mean, what's the drawback besides "realism" and even then, it's not necessarily unimaginable that with a broken leg you could hobble over something, you'd just have to grab onto said rail or door frame or what have you in real life.

Some of the new spawns blow. There's a spawn by the new new new town, which isn't even in the game yet. I think even the spawn that's been a while right outside Svet on the coast sorta blows too. Here's the thing, if you're totally new to DayZ, and you don't see the town you're already basically at the edge of the map. I mean hopefully you realize the giant empty field is probably not the way to go, but even putting spawns in proximity to the edge of the map seems like a terrible idea to me. The inland spawns are pretty lame too, I've spawned overlooking pollana factory, at pollana town itself, inside dollina etc. Now things are bound to change, the map is a bit different than the mod, but places like pollana factory were a hot spot of activity for finding vehicle parts etc. Now there's a spawn literally on the hill over looking it. That's lame imo. Again, things are bound to change, the map will play out differently but I just think that's reason to wait on changing spawns. They should have left full coastal spawns until they sort out everything. They were spread out enough to begin with. It's a balance issue, why are they fucking with them now when they don't give a fuck about balance any where else?

What would be a realistic level of stamina/run time?
Bororm replied to UltimateGentleman's topic in General Discussion
I wouldn't mind a slightly slower run speed, especially for running around unarmed. Also wouldn't mind some sort of encumberance mechanic, that makes you run slower, the more weight/items you carry. I personally DON'T want to see anything along the lines of a stamina bar though, even if hidden. It just feels too shitty when you get short bursts of speed followed by long periods of slowness, I'd rather consistent speed with variations depending on load out. Otherwise you end up sprinting, then being super slow, then sprinting, super slow and it feels awful. -
They admitted to this early on, but I think they've passed the point by now. Many of the early items/guns etc were things already all but finished that they were putting in. But I think since patching has slowed a bit, most of the new stuff is legitimately new. I think you can find the tweet by Chris Torchia if you look back far enough on it. As to the AKM, sounds pretty cool and I'm looking forward to it. I probably won't use it much myself, as I'm not a big fan of AKs aesthetically but I look forward to fighting against people with it, and more variety than everyone just carrying a mosin or m4 :D
