  1. Because presumably there's zombies every where, and you already have an existing structure with many comforts to fortify. It makes perfect sense, why would you spend your time trying to build a log cabin instead of reinforcing an existing building? Short of building a solid log cabin, what other sort of solid structure are you really going to build out in the middle of no where? Not to mention the extra resources/supplies you'd need to be able to do it. I don't like to get hung up on "realism" bullshit in this game, because at the end of a day it's just a game, but barricading absolutely makes sense. Which is not to say I don't want custom base building, I totally want both.

    CQC?

Fists are next to useless against motorcycle helmets though, so against players some of the melee weapons are still better in that regard. Overall though I agree, fists are probably best if they don't have a helmet I've been using a bat just for fun, it's pretty shit for sure, but there's something extremely satisfying about it when you do get a guy =P Like getting a home run. I 1 hit knocked out a sniper the other day with my bat, it was a total fluke and I have no idea how it happened, I can only presume he must have already been really hurt/high shock some how.
  3. I'm pretty sure something similar to tents is still planned, I wouldn't worry about that. Barricading is just an alternative/something hopefully a bit more substantial. I like the idea of barricading and I think it makes sense. Even if people can break in, it still presents a defensive position, and half the fun is breaking into people's stuff. There's so many enterable buildings now that I think you'll be able to have a bit of both worlds. Barricade some out of the way house in some out of the way town. As for the realism aspect... Well, some things are gonna be sacrificed. It's not like you couldn't just crawl through a window IRL, but there's no real option for that on the majority of buildings. I think it's worth the sacrifice to be able to fortify a building and give a larger sense of persistence to the world. I think it's "authentic" to be able to break down some one's door after a good amount of time. Yeah, maybe IRL you could probably axe through a wooden door in minutes, but for the sake of gameplay I wouldn't care if it took a while. It's all speculation though, we don't know what form barricading will actually take and how useful it will actually be.
  4. Uhh, this proposed solution solves that issue, you simply can't log in, in the base.

    Lack of squad combat- Discuss

http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/198365-official-spawn-in-east-travel-west-source/ Not that you won't see spawns along more of the coast necessarily, but, don't expect anything on the south west again imo.
  6. It was possibly some one in the walls, who logged in. Alternatively, could have been a random logging in up stairs. Depending on your friend's position, he could have even been sniped, although there aren't too many good angles and it would be a hard shot. Were you in the east or west one? Likely it was either a wall glitcher (so so so so common in the jails on the airfield) or ghosting, whether intentional or not.

    CQC?

They're implementing ragdolls eventually and being able to drag people again, so maybe part of that system could open up some more options. If nothing else, I'd like to see hide bodies option potentially removed, and instead having to drag a body.

    Guns Not Working

I've had them just never become visible the entire playthrough, as well as relogging to have it still not work. Some times my group mates can see the stuff, some times they can't. One thing that works, some of the time, is to try to put an item into whatever container/clothing it is. That will some times make things pop into view, but the problem is if all the slots are occupied it's not possible.

    Guns Not Working

Super annoying bug. So is the bug where you can't see items in people's inventories.

    CQC?

I think it would be really difficult to implement. I've never seen that elaborate of a system in a multiplayer game on this scale. With all the laggy/desync stuff going on, I think it would just lead to frustration in fights. People already warp around a lot close range, and even if such a move were relegated to being only possible from behind, you're going to have players warping behind you and putting you in choke holds. It's already frustrating enough when you get knocked out by a guy punching, because he's sliding all over the place. It would be kinda cool if they could make it work, but I doubt it's going to happen. I still get my MGS fantasy fulfillment by knocking out guys with my fists as a fresh spawn, taking their guns and killing them and their buddies though.
  11. I'm envisioning it just moving you within a few meters of the perimeter of whatever structure it is. As Katana points out, I think this is just barricading existing buildings. So you log out in a house, you get bumped outside if it happens to be a player structure. I don't see why they'd pop you across the map. Issues could arise in cities though, with adjacent houses being barricaded to the point of shoving the viable spawn areas further and further out. However, barricades will be destructable so we'll see how it all balances out. I have a feeling you're going to want to barricade more out of the way buildings than ones in major towns as you're likely to get your place wrecked. For actual custom base building, they could do a plotpole thing like Epoch does I guess, which could define a perimeter. It's been a while since I played, and I'm straying a bit off from epoch specifically, but say you have to craft some sort of central pillar or something that defines the area in which you can build. Which could double as a no spawn zone. Once this is in, as well as persistent storage, we should see people settling onto specific servers any ways hopefully. There will always be those jumping about, but in regards to annoyances which could arise for non-ghosting due to this system, I think you'll quickly learn where barricades are popping up and can just avoid the inconvenience.

    Lack of squad combat- Discuss

Hit the NEAF, I get a lot of squad fights up there. You can get some in Berezino too but it's a clusterfuck with the randoms. Fought squads in svet too, but again, can be a bit of a mess. I think the NEAF is the most reliable place right now, but you have to deal with wall glitchers in the jails. I suggest sticking to the outskirts of the airfield, and not even bothering with those fuckers.
  13. Suicide till you're close.
  14. The way I see it though is this could happen anywhere. Yeah, it's way less likely it's going to happen out in the middle of no where, but it still could. And again, when you log in, your character is in for a good amount of time before you actually load in. That's pretty risky for you too, you could die and lose everything without even knowing there was a person in the building yourself. Again though, I've nothing wrong with a sound on login as well. All I've been saying is that I think combat logging is a lot douchier than logging in. We're just going in circles now though so I'm gonna drop it.

    Shotgun Slugs

Thanks for the explanation Enforcer, I kinda suspected that's how it works. It just seems like maybe they fucked up some where when they redid the guns in the SA. Yeah pellets in the mod were king, I ran the double barrel near exclusively for a long time. You are totally right, and I'd tell people not to even bother with slugs. Most of them, never actually using shotguns thought I was stupid, but pellets could break your leg or cause you to bleed even beyond 100m. My buddy broke a guy's leg from the cherno tower to the firestation once, that's about 200m which is pretty far for a shotgun! I dig the shotgun in the SA but it's not quite as good, even with pellets. You can still destroy people at certain ranges for sure, but I find distance shots mainly just tickle folk unless you get extremely lucky. I did kill a guy at like 40m the other day in one shot, I think I must have landed a pellet or two on his head. All that said though, I'm looking forward to slugs in the SA just to see how they work out. Maybe, unlike the mod, they'll be really deadly and offer some much needed range options to the shotgun.

    Shotgun Slugs

It makes me wonder if they did a shitty job of how the guns even work, and have to redo it. Like maybe the shotgun is only configured to fire in a spread currently, and for whatever reason they're having a difficult time creating 2 firing "modes" on a weapon. I dunno, that's just the immediate thought that comes to my mind because they were already in, just never working.

    Shotgun Slugs

They aren't currently on stable, I don't know about experimental but I don't think so. You can find them from players who haven't played in a long time. A guy I was playing with recently still had some. They won't work in the shotgun yet.

    Glitched soda can

Happens when it lags. I don't eat/drink the same item twice though as that feels like exploiting to me personally. I usually make good use of the throw feature and toss it out of the way.

I can't seem to find anyone

Majority of people are east, there's no real reason to go west for most people.

    Still to much rain

Do you need to filter straight rainwater? Also, wasn't it in one of the recent patches, if you hold a water bottle while it's raining it fills up.

The cute part is how extraordinarily true that bit is because the vast majority of cheaters saw the cheat on a video or from a friend or whatever. There's nothing creative about cheating, and doubly so if you didn't even create the cheat yourself. I asked a wall glitcher why he was cheating once and he told me "why would you play a game that isn't finished?" as if that's a valid excuse. I asked him what his excuse was going to be when the game was finished, and he was still cheating, and he had no good answer.

    Still to much rain

Games create atmosphere and evoke emotions. That's part of the point. I'm not saying it's making me depressed, but there's a difference between looking at something gloomy and looking at something vibrant. This is true of all forms of art, and I'd argue that video games are one of the more immersive forms of artform and so the effect is greater. I'd say if you don't get any sort of even subliminal effect from the atmosphere of a game then you are the one with RL issues. Or quite possibly a robot. Also, you have lucked out or I am simply unlucky (but it seems by the OP others share my misfortune). I'd say it easily rains 50% of the time if not more when I'm playing. If you're talking about IRL I like a rainy day here and there myself, but it gets tiresome after a while (for me personally). I live in hawaii, and this year where I live we actually had a bit more rain than usual early on and it was overcast and windy for a long while. At first it was a nice change of pace, but it got old quickly. The same is true for the game, I'm not saying it shouldn't rain, I just think it rains too much. This was true in the mod as well, at least the server I primarily played.

I think it's pathetic. Create legitimate strategies, don't exploit glitches. That's called cheating.

    Still to much rain

I don't agree, it affects the mood subconsciously. It's the apocalypse so I'm not expecting sunshine and rainbows every day, but having it rain the majority of the time is a downer. Just because there's zombies doesn't mean the weather goes to shit. This game looks great when it's sunny. The dev team even mentioned this early on, when they talked about the overall aesthetic of the world. They thought about making everything a bit grey/brown and gloomy, but decided to go more vibrant with it.

I don't take anything from dupers/hackers bodies. I just immediately hide them. Don't perpetuate this shit, have some integrity.
