    Gun sound problem?

Sounds are a total mess. You won't hear sounds other people are hearing quite often, even if they're firing right next to you. I've even had cases where I can't hear my own gun shots. Guns often make a variety of different sounds as well, causing confusion as to what type of gun is even firing. Today I heard what I could have sworn was a mosin being shot at me, and my friends kept telling me it was an SKS. They turned out to be right, but the thing did not sound like an sks at all to me.
  2. They already have plains all over the place. Sorry, couldn't resist. But yes, I think they intend to have all of those vehicles. I'm secretly hoping they made the neaf larger just for that purpose, although that's probably just wishful thinking. I do expect they will eventually have planes though and much more likely helicopters will make it in, especially with the engine largely originating from take on helicopters.

Renaming game modes is a bad idea

I think it's a good change. As stated the only actual difference is the camera. If they make tweaks to make a more "hardcore" experience later on, camera options should still be a thing so "hardcore first person" and "hardcore third person" servers should exist.

    Duped M4s?

Because m4s have not been spawning on stable for a few patches now. While some players have legitimate ones, it's fairly easy to tell whether it is legitimate or not by how much ammo the player is carrying for it. The majority of dupers use infinite ammo mags any ways, but when you see a guy with multiple ammo crates full of 30 round stacks of 5.56 it's better to err on the side of caution imo and just hide the body. Currently the only way to get 5.56 is from ak101 mags, and while they aren't exactly rare they are also not common enough that the amount of players sporting this much ammo along with having an m4 seems legitimate.

    Duped M4s?

I encounter multiple daily. When you kill them, please hide their bodies. Just hide the bodies of any suspicious players, because duping is very rampant and there's no reason to perpetuate these items any more than they are. I think it's quite likely that aside from actual dupers, a ton of these duped m4s and infinite ammo mags are the result of other players just taking them from said dupers, or else leaving the bodies and other people taking them. So really, just hide them every time, don't take anything, it's only items. Aaaand this guy just confirmed it. Why take duped items? Destroy that shit.

    Does camo matter

People have pretty much covered it all but it doesn't matter a whole lot, especially with people turning their settings really low for maximum advantage. If you're playing on high settings with shadows and all the foliage etc, yeah some camo will be helpful, but as in the mod, I believe most people who are into pvp turn their settings very low and then it becomes much less of a factor. I wish they'd find a compromise for that, but oh well. At a distance colors become a bit muddied in terms of clothing, even with object detail set to highest, and the colors you wear don't matter much, you'll look like a bit of a dark blob regardless especially when moving. So basically, camo doesn't hurt but it doesn't really help as much as you might expect. I think it's good though, I don't want to see the game become something like battlefield 3 where there's so much shit going on with lighting/shadows and camo that it's hard to even see people half the time. Players should stick out to an extent, and I think it's pretty close to how it should be. If you're stationary and in a good spot you'll be hard to spot, if you're moving and the person is attentive you stick out. Ghillie suits in the mod worked really well though, so if those ever get implemented I'll be curious to see how effective they are. That's probably again more to do with your silhouette than your actual colors though. In the mod you didn't have a pack and your silhouette became "jagged" with a ghillie. Oh and the majority of people wearing camoed out military gear just seem like douche bags to me =P So there's the added disadvantage of looking like a generic butthole vs wearing something with style and being different than 99% of the people playing.

    R.I.P M4A1

Me too, been advocating it for a while. Really wish they'd do it, especially with persistence coming.
  8. So I've definitely shot a proper spread with the shotgun this patch a few times, but today I got what seemed to be a bug where it was either firing a single pellet again, or seemingly more likely, firing all the pellets in a super tight cluster. It was leaving a single very large impact hole on walls, and when shooting people/zombies only leaving one hit marker. I'll have to actually do proper testing later (this was in the middle of a firefight and I only really noticed in retrospect) but the shotgun is definitely still behaving pretty odd. The only good part about that particular bug is it seemed to be doing full damage at least, and I won my fight against 2 dudes with SKSes. Anyone else experiencing this?
  9. Bororm

Well, people did ask for more zombies

The zombie mechanics blow right now. Instantly respawning, reaggroing zombies that still glitch like crazy mixed with shit melee mechanics isn't fun or challenging, it's just arbitrarily annoying.

    Sniping is a cowards technique?

I'm sure ya never shoot anyone in the back at close range and always give them a friendly heads up first right? This aint street fighter, anything goes!
  11. I want a normal m1 garand in dayz. I wanna hear them *pings* I think the game could use another semi auto rifle. I'm hesitant to suggest something like an m14 because I could see it being a bit too powerful among the current weapon selection, but maybe it'd be ok, especially if they didn't allow any sort of scopes just yet.
  12. The longhorn is pretty good now and has less noticeable sway than the mosin scoped. For ranges 200 and under my friends are actually finding it preferable to the mosin. My buddy was up to 12 kills with his before he died. This thing will probably be less accurate and I'd imagine not mount the scope any more. We'll have to wait and see though. I initially figured the longhorn would be basically pointless but time has proven otherwise. The more variety the better any ways, not all guns have to be equal and having "shitty" guns makes for funner gameplay and an added challenge.

    Weapons?

Take that shotgun and blast a guy for a different gun. Or just use the shotgun, it's actually sorta OP.
  14. I don't get the hate, it's pretty relevant. It's even relevant to games with more content. This basically sums up my feelings on UO as well, and I love UO. It had a ton more to do than DayZ does currently, but at the end of the day pking is still the funnest thing you can do. No matter what content they add to DayZ, and I'm legitimately looking forward to it all, at the end of the day killing other players is still going to be the funnest thing to do for a lot of players as well. There's nothing wrong with that, and it's a funny picture/quote.

    Hacker or weird glitch?

It could be shady or it could be DayZ being DayZ. I have that issue some times with pistols specifically. Some times if you take an item, say straight into your hands, without putting it into your inventory first then when you drop it, it will go back to where you picked it up. There's other weird things that happen similarly. If you took it straight into your backpack I don't think that should have happened but I dunno. There are hacks to make people put their guns away, and there used to be hacks to take people's items. I'm fairly certain taking items was actually fixed though. Also, are people in this thread implying the mp5 is not very good? I find it to be a pretty decent gun, it shoots very fast and is pretty accurate now. The damage isn't super but the rate of fire makes up for it.

So how would you like dogs in the game?

I hope they add them. I don't expect them to be terribly useful and they'll likely just die in any pvp situation, and lead to heart break for anyone getting attached to it but I don't see an issue with adding things like that to the game. I'd like to see some sort of taming system for them, just because it adds something more to do. Having to give them meat or whatever. Same with horses, I really hope they go in even if they'll just end up being shot out from under you constantly and aren't necessarily worth the effort. The more stuff to do the better.

    PM73 RAK

The ammo doesn't spawn any ways. I haven't seen the gun either though.
  18. Exploiters are out of control again, can't go a day without multiple infinite ammo m4s and wall glitchers. Really really really wish this shit would be addressed, especially wall glitching. Duping is going to be a big issue once persistence is enabled. In the neaf ATC today I encountered just boxes upon boxes of duped ammo/mags. A lot were ruined, but many weren't. There is no way to destroy this stuff without hiding it on a body. The only other option is throwing it in some out of the way place. If persistence is for every item, there will quite quickly be a lot of this duped stuff just piling up every where, it's gonna be really bad. Seen a decrease in actual hacks at least. In the future please just don't even accept stuff from people cheating, it just perpetuates these items.

Items that are as rare as hens teeth

Personally I don't find any of those items to be rare. Check the town hall in the new big city (novo?). The only item I'd consider rare personally is the drum mag for the AKM, as it should be.

    Adding dynamism to gunfights

It's like you're not reading anything either I wrote or in Rocket's post... This community indeed.

    Adding dynamism to gunfights

If anything, the weapon lowered strafing is even slightly fast imo. But raised, it is pretty much just fine. I don't see any reason why it should be faster than that.

    Adding dynamism to gunfights

A large part of the tension that comes from DayZ, especially in the mod, was the clunkiness. Whether intentional or not, getting stuck into animations and having your character not instantly react to controls added a lot of tension and frustration, which created a large part of the overall experience of the game. What rocket is saying is that he recognizes this, and that they want to maintain that feel while obviously ironing out the shitty parts. There's a fine line between the character not controlling how you'd expect, and responding too quickly to input that you have to strike to maintain that feeling. Obviously the game is far from perfect in that regard. The delays he's talking about are additional animations and such, not just delays for the sake of delays. Transitional animations etc, so that you aren't going straight from eating to sprinting, or straight from being prone to standing etc. You should be able to cancel a bandage, or eating animation, but it shouldn't necessarily be instantaneous. That is the sort of thing he is discussing and what DayZ needs to maintain if it wants to still feel tense. I think another good example is having to load weapons through your inventory if you don't have a magazine. I personally love having to reload "manually" and those little things add a ton to the experience compared to being able to just hit R, even if you don't have a mag. The other end of the spectrum is being able to quick swap weapons, go straight from one animation to another etc, and then you end up with something more akin to most arcade shooters. It's something I was very skeptical about when the SA was announced, if they'd be able to maintain that clunkiness but in a way that actually makes sense. I'm extremely happy they're being mindful of it.

    Adding dynamism to gunfights

In the mod I had my guy taking extra steps, where he'd randomly do a sideways hop, I've never encountered that bug in the SA. I mean I do agree agree, that any bugginess present is an issue, movement is janky with extra animations randomly playing etc. I just don't agree that the movement speed itself is too slow. If it all controlled properly, and your character didn't decide to do random ass shit, I think the actual speed would be fine. Part of the issue imo is that run speed is too fast as it stands, making these slower movements seem even slower.

    Adding dynamism to gunfights

You can already do what's described in that video, what's the issue?
  25. Bororm

    Adding dynamism to gunfights

I just don't have any issue at all with current strafing and leaning mechanics so I don't understand the issue. And basically all I do in this game is pvp all day, a large majority of it breaching buildings.
