So the notes were a lie? I don't doubt you and I didn't spend a lot of time with it yet, it just felt off. Also, if you're referring to the floating dot, I recommend never aiming with that as it's not actually representative of where you shoot. I do often hip fire and have a good feel for it, but I have to remind my friends a lot when they bitch about how they were aiming with the dot and missing, or their bullets were being obstructed by something, that it's not actually meant to be a crosshair for your guns. Now it is in fact a representation of where you are aiming for melee, but with firearms you generally want to aim a bit lower and to the right. Here's an image I posted in the last shotgun thread actually to show what I mean. Notice my dot is actually above and left of him. If you're referring to the front sight of the shotgun itself (which is sorta dot like in appearance) then never mind all that, but I'm very used to aiming that way as well.

I just think there's something to be said for having drawbacks to certain gear, rather than military gear being the de facto best stuff every time, which in everything but backpacks it already is. I don't care for perfect balance, DayZ isn't about that, but right now I see no need for adding large military backpacks. Realism or not.
-
I disagree, military gear already holds a lot more than "civilian" stuff with the added benefit of being camo. I really hope they don't add a camoed military pack with high slots any time soon. The hunter pack is close enough imo As for the leather sack, I dig it. The graphic is a bit funky and warps/stretches with your character movement, which looks kinda bad but overall I think it's a cool addition.

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
Bororm replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
So predictably, the first set of player tents my friend and I found were full of duped gear. Including hacked m4 mags and those vests that don't spawn any more. Item nesting, or whatever you want to call it, is also back in, so they had vests within vests carrying mp5s and stuff like that, to fit more guns into the tents. We wrecked their shit as best we could, but since there's no option to delete gear and persistence is on I reckon their stuff is just gonna be laying around for a while. Would be nice if there were an option to use some tools, like an axe, on any item to just delete/destroy it. -
It's cool but it seemed very white on my screen, which actually causes the mosin to stick out even more imo.

What is it that makes the fps so bad? Engine? DX9?
Bororm replied to Halven (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Ya kinda answered most of your questions in your post, OP. The game isn't optimized, yes they've said this, and the reason cities are worse is because of all the buildings and extra shit. -
Mosin-Nagant "Obrez" Modification? [Torchia Tweet]
Bororm replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
Gotta admit I'm slightly disappointed in the model. I mean it really looks like they just chopped the model, which while I guess that's what you're supposedly doing with just a hacksaw it would have been nice to make it a little more detailed/distinct. -

I think you guys are delving too far into realism again. -
Will we eventually get different reloading 'tiers'?
Bororm replied to spensah's topic in General Discussion
I misinterpreted his post, since he was talking about what the benefit of having a round in the chamber is. It seemed like he was implying there was no reason to use a mag when you could just chamber the rifle when I first read it. -
If you want to see how you died, pay more attention while you're alive.

Uhh the benefit to having a mag for the cz527 is that you get 5 shots instead of 1. It doesn't have an internal mag like the mosin. -
I used to do pistol only a lot when the SA launched since there wasn't much in the way of weapon variety. Pistols are better now than they were then, with the dispersion "fixes" so it should be more viable. The drawback is that finding pistol mags is a pain, so unless you use the magnum it's harder to get going on pistols only than it would be to grab an actual rifle. My recommendation is you use a chest holster instead of a vest or carrying the pistol in your pack, because in my experience a pistol can't be ruined in a holster while it is easily ruined in those other items. That is one of the biggest drawback of using pistols is they can actually be ruined in your inventory. Any ways, like most of the guns it comes down to player skill and what you can do with it. Positioning matters more than the weapon in general in DayZ, so if you play smart you should be able to make it work. (this post is framed in the context of pvp, since that's all I like to do)

Check it out, very little has actually changed in terms of things to do but you can always uninstall and wait again, so what's there to lose? Your character almost assuredly hasn't been wiped.

Saying helicopters ruined the mod is untrue as long as anyone found the game still enjoyable with them, which many people did. If you don't like helicopters and the gameplay that came from them then that's a valid opinion to have. Stating as fact that they ruined the mod is not, because many people enjoyed them. So it ruined the mod for him, and others. It did not ruin the mod. Just like some people will claim KOS ruins DayZ. I think we can all agree that is not true objectively.
-
Clarified that for you, so no one gets mislead.
-
Exactly, they give a lot of stuff to do, even if the end result is the same (pvp) it extends the journey. Most of the time you get a vehicle going you end up asking "now what?" but at least it's an extra step, because right now you ask that question as soon as you get a gun. It also creates incentive to travel the map, not just because they allow you to move faster, but because in order to get one to begin with you may have to go check the out of the way towns and go find parts etc. The mod had me going to shitty little towns like Shakhovka or Pulkovo that I would have no reason to visit otherwise, because they had vehicle spawns or gas tanks etc. I have no reason at all to go to those sort of places right now.

I've played both, as well as many of the other mods. I always preferred vanilla (before it became shit, like after 1.6 or something), although I thought epoch base building was a step in the right direction even if the other shit on epoch wasn't so good. My point is that I don't get people worrying about stuff like this when we have a perfectly fine example of it working fine and fun, and can only assume that like pretty much everything else the standalone has done so far it will be better. That's sorta the entire point of the standalone isn't it? To make everything from the mod better and make an actual game?
-
I'm sure about it because I played the mod.

Mosin-Nagant "Obrez" Modification? [Torchia Tweet]
Bororm replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
You must be playing a different game than me because while it is in part due to a lack of other content, the game is most definitely focused on open world pvp. They've even acknowledged multiple times now that players are the biggest threat. Will there be more survival based gameplay as well? yes. But the pvp isn't going any where, and in fact only stands to become more meaningful as the pve aspects are fleshed out, as it will result in more to lose and more to gain from those encounters. Variety is nice, and I hope they include as many guns as possible, both odd ones and common. -
It just happens when you log in, some times your character will moan and you'll get that red haze. It shouldn't affect anything, and is actually a decent way of telling if some one just logged in near you.

What Weapons Warrant Being Hyper-Rare and/or Regulated?
Bororm replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
Rocket has mentioned stuff like thermal scoped guns being extremely rare and being one of the things regulated by the global loot economy system, early on in interviews. Hopefully it was purely an example and hypothetical and his team talks him out of including them. I would maybe be ok with a thermal scope that is purely a scope, not attached to a gun, for spotting purposes only. However, I think even then it'd probably be a bit too powerful of a tool. -
Mosin-Nagant "Obrez" Modification? [Torchia Tweet]
Bororm replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
This is true, they've said they made the m4 first because it was the most "complex" weapon, what with all the attachments and such. So it was easiest to make the most complex thing first to test all their systems etc. I'd never seen a double rifle in any major video game before DayZ. I think the Longhorn is pretty "unique" too in terms of video games. And now the Obrez. I think those are the kinds of guns Gibonez may have been referring to, that you don't see in most shooters. Though I also agree with you, and think it's likely we'll see all the "popular" guns as well. I like seeing less common weapons like the ones I just listed above though. I think there was even talks of including this thing: I mean I'm not a gun nut or anything, I'm just a guy who plays a lot of video games and I gotta say DayZ has so far introduced me to more interesting guns than the vast majority of other FPS games I've played over the last decade. (just so we're perfectly clear, by common I am referring only to video games. I dunno shit about how common these guns are irl. Which is reinforcing your statement about how video games/movies popularize these weapons) -
It seems to essentially be a big slug. It's definitely not a spread because even shooting from 100m there is no difference in the impact. The damage is very good.

While I agree the pellets working properly are better for clearing, it's still devastating in its current state. I'd rather have a shotgun to clear with than almost any other weapon, and I say that as some one who's been doing a loooot of clearing of the neaf atc against guys sporting infinite ammo m4s as well as every variety of other weapon. In fact, today I went against a guy inside who had his own shotgun and it was way scarier than going against any of the guys with automatics thus far. It's a one shot kill to the upper body the majority of the time right now. If they rush out at you after you miss, obviously you'd be in trouble but most people who hole up in buildings don't do that. Most breaching scenarios result in a bit of a wack-a-mole or peek-a-boo contest in my experience, so a weapon that can kill in less hits is ideal.

Godmode in reference to video games is generally used to refer to invincibility (wikipedia even backs that up, to my own surprise: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_mode). There are indeed teleports and speed hacks and what not, but there is no invulnerability hack.
