    Epic long snipe attempt...

The network bubble is only 1000m, so I dunno what you're shooting at beyond that =P I do agree though, I like going for long range shots, the longer the better. It's more fun. It's unfortunate that the bubble is only 1km, because the visibility in the SA is excellent compared to the mod, where you were capable of shooting much further. The thing about arma in general is on a stationary target it doesn't really matter what the distance is, because besides bullet drop there's no other factors. So if you get your zeroing right there's no difference between shooting some one at say 100m and 1000m. Of course, moving targets are a different beast, and I like to try because I don't believe you improve by only taking the easy ones.

    Question on binoculars and backpacks

The camo one was confirmed to be a fake.

    Shotgun's quite powerfull now?

If it shot a spread like it's supposed to, I think the damage would be ok, since if you didn't hit with all pellets it wouldn't be a 1 shot kill.
  4. Could go either way but I'm slightly skeptical considering they just added camo wraps for the thing.

Tent Wipe #2...why? "Devs please read"

http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/2e43ub/firstperson_persistence_when/cjwbz2y They haven't patched, so it isn't fixed. They're going to keep getting wiped if servers keep getting stuck. I wouldn't bother personally, until all this stuff becomes stable. Also, did ya not even look at the recent threads? Because literally only a few topics down, from earlier today: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/208674-tent-wipe-2why-devs-please-read/

    Wooden Bows

I don't think it's too hard to find ropes, but it would be nice if it were possible to craft ropes. Perhaps through skinning, or cloth or something. Hell, I feel like you could even make a shitty rope out of duct tape. Perhaps type/quality could play a factor in the quality of the bow. As for the trees, they aren't difficult to find. They grow around nearly every city, and are scattered around the map. They come in varying stages of growth, but once you recognize them they are easy to find. The major issue with bows imo is arrows, chickens/birds need to become more abundant. However, in a video I saw you get 20 feathers per chicken so that aint bad. BTW, there's a bug right now where if you twang a bow it's a global sound, everyone on the map can hear it. It's also directional and sounds close, unlike the other global glitch sounds. Have fun with that while you can imo =P

    PLEASE remove scope smoothing

    Never experienced this.

    Tactical vest

I wouldn't take it personally, if his m4 was duped the vest was duped. On the topic of the vest itself, they removed it due to clipping but I find that excuse ridiculous considering how many other clothing items clip. Would be nice if they'd fix it or just put it back in imo.

    Shotgun's quite powerfull now?

I believe the reason they're holding off so far on implementing the pump shotgun is because they are planning to rework the way reloading works in general. Hopefully it will mean no longer having to empty out guns (and the bows which are even more silly in that respect) that wouldn't realistically require it, just to add more rounds. This happened to me the other day, except I was the one with the shotgun. It lead me to believe the patch notes about the damage being altered were true, but I believe Hotcakes pointed out that the damage is actually still the same according to the files or whatever. I think maybe it was simply that I only hit the guy in the arm, I don't know. There could be a random element at work with it still, but since then I've had success with the majority of my shots being 1 hit kills. This is from last patch, but besides a few oddities I'm finding the thing to function essentially the same this patch. There's a nice quirk of the shotgun flattening bushes right now too =P In any case, I personally don't like the current assault rifles or even the sks, and fuck if I'm going to use a mosin against semi/fully auto guns in close range (I do like sniping). I find the shotgun to be very adequate in close range fights against these weapons.

    Shotgun's quite powerfull now?

I'm not talking about a nerf, I'm talking about fixing it. There is nothing about the current shotgun that is functioning as it is supposed to.

    Shotgun's quite powerfull now?

The shotgun is borderline overpowered, the only real drawbacks being its limited capacity and the inability to eject loaded rounds, resulting in having to empty both before being able to do a full reload. Chest (and head of course) shots are nearly always 1 hit kills. The accuracy is very good, albeit shots seem to go a bit higher than expected. It's buggy in all regards, the spread is nonexistent (as mentioned it's essentially a slug), the damage is too high for what it is, and reloading is fucked up. I've always used the double barrel, and while I enjoy it being as powerful as it is, I'd rather see it working properly instead.

Tent Wipe #2...why? "Devs please read"

There's a reddit post saying that until they actually patch, servers that are getting stuck not restarting will continue to be wiped. The patch isn't scheduled till the end of the month. http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/2e43ub/firstperson_persistence_when/cjwbz2y There's also info in the weekly report that we can expect a full hive wipe semi soon. Between the instability of persistence, and the fact that a total wipe is confirmed and semi imminent I suggest not bothering with tents. Again, they've always been shit about getting information out in an official way, but that's not going to change. The weekly reports are the closest thing we're gonna get, and a nice addition, but you still have to dig around.
  13. They've said they're holding off the SVD until the central loot economy thing is fully implemented, so they can limit them because "sniper rifles are op" or some shit. I'm having trouble finding the quote, I'm nearly positive it was Chris Torchia, perhaps it was in his video with sacriel though I thought it was in writing some where.

    "Vehicle component design"

I don't know what you're not understanding here. Vehicles were the end game content of the mod, it didn't necessarily reflect the difficulty in obtaining them. Simply saying something is "end game" does not indicate how difficult it is, beyond that it is more difficult than the standard gameplay. Getting a helicopter was essentially the pinnacle of "end game" content in the mod, but wasn't terribly difficult at all. Rocket saying vehicles will be end game tells us nothing significant, so citing him saying such doesn't tell us anything and isn't useful, especially in the context of the post you were replying to. I'm not taking it up with rocket, because rocket's not here, I'm taking it up with you because you are using his statement, which is largely meaningless. I'm challenging you to back it up, beyond saying "well rocket said it's end game so that means it must be difficult" in a post in response to some one saying it shouldn't take 30 hours to do something. Aside from that, as pointed out, end game can be subjective per player. My example was pretty good actually, because a large majority of players do consider a decked out gun to be "end game" currently. My first post was meant to be lighthearted, but you have a pretty sour attitude guy =P

    Proper Forest!

I think they're aiming to break away from that and go with the whole defenses rather than hiding thing, that's the impression I'm getting so far with talks of barricading and booby traps. If they don't, and add in camouflage and stuff to hide your tents, and maybe get more lenient on placement rules that only serves to benefit these types of areas more so than primarily empty woods. I do sorta disagree with you however, because as I've mentioned I spent a much longer time in that small area of the map looking for player tents than I would have had to in the mod. In the mod that area was pretty sparse, you could see fairly far and you knew that a tent was going to be hidden in a pine. With the multiple levels of elevation and very limited visibility it takes a lot longer to check every corner of the area now. That's just one section of the map though, as you mention most of the map has become less wilderness, and the rest of the map hasn't been given that same level of love (yet?). Now I don't disagree that because there is less space, you are in some ways more likely to stumble upon said tent even if it takes a longer period of time, however in either scenario your tent is going to be found by some one who is dedicating their time to finding it. More space doesn't necessarily mean more places to hide, and in this case actually means the opposite. Basically it's less space, more hiding places, vs more space and less hiding places. I find the first one more interesting personally, as the second just leads to "wasted" space. Unfortunately they've said there's no plans to increase surface area. I think the focus now becomes, what's the best way to make use of the area they have. Whether it be a focus away from hiding and more towards defense or increased camo options, or even both.

    "Vehicle component design"

I mean that's sorta exactly my point. The end game is what you make it in dayz, so rocket saying vehicles are "end game" doesn't say much at all. And I don't find AKMs to be my own personal end game, as I don't care for them, it was just an example as I know a lot of people are into decked out AKMs or m4s or whatever but thanks for the passive aggressive insult =P

    Proper Forest!

I think they managed to strike a fine balance. It's a bit more path-y as a result of more obstructions, but there's still multiple ways around and you could spend a lot of time exploring in that area compared to what it was in the mod. I didn't feel like I was really on rails in there for the most part. Depending how bold you want to be with wonky arma physics there's probably a lot of sketchy areas you can get to too. It may be wishful thinking, but if proper base building is implemented I could see some really awesome stuff happening in that sorta place. Even landing helicopters on some of the rocks, perhaps after some modifications/platforms. Rust features some pretty similar rock formations as well that lead to lots of fun cave bases.

    "Vehicle component design"

To be fair they were the end game in the mod. In a game with hardly anything to do to begin with, end game doesn't mean much =P You could consider an AKM the end game currently.
  20. Bororm

    "Vehicle component design"

I agree, a balance needs to be struck. Especially when you're likely to just get the thing blown up or stolen. They shouldn't be trivial but they should be worth the effort.

    Proper Forest!

Something I noticed is that even though the area isn't larger, much like what's happened with towns, the usable space is increased. There's a lot more cliffs/valleys and such going on up in that area, which makes it feel a lot larger than it previously was and also creates a lot more hiding places. I spent a decent chunk of time combing the area, where as in the mod it probably wouldn't have taken me long at all. I hope they treat that western border in a similar fashion and create some interesting wilderness there as well.

    Proper Forest!

Turn your trees+grass to maximum it creates a lot of small plant undergrowth.
  23. Yeah the idea of hopping servers for parts is extremely dumb, and I hope they change their mind about it. I'd rather see focus on encouraging players to stay on one server, not the opposite.
  24. Bororm

    "Vehicle component design"

If they don't have persistence working well first, collecting a shit load of parts in the current crappy loot spawn mechanics is gonna suck balls and not be worth it at all.

    Proper Forest!

I know this thread is old but while searching for people's tents I was up north of Svet, the whole area with the rocks and also the woods is really well done. The forests up there, while not necessarily denser in terms of trees, have more stuff going on like fallen logs, bushes, even some brambles I haven't really seen too much any where else. I recommend checking out the area. It's just a shame there's not a ton of reason to go up there, but as tents become more popular and eventually base building/vehicles I'm sure more activity will hit the fringes.
