And here's the resulting discussion. http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/2c3c9i/hicks_206_zombies_have_never_been_the_real_threat/ You can also go dig up some articles where Rocket comments about how when he created dayz it didn't even have zombies, and they were essentially a gimmick. Zombies are one part of dayz, and a threat, but they're not the main threat, which is what I said. But the CoD "insults" are cute as always. Sorry to spoil your illusions buddies.

AK101 seems especially good for it with the low recoil, when I was using one about a week ago I found myself preferring to aim that way on close range targets (sub 40m or so).
-
I don't think they'll ever completely stop duping. All online games have it in some form, and when certain methods are fixed, people find new ways. I think they'll definitely fix some of the easier methods though.

If you're playing DayZ for a zombie game you're going to end up disappointed, it's never really been about zombies and the devs have made that pretty clear numerous times. Also, "hard" zombies are never really going to stop people from KOS or encourage those who prefer pvp to team up. NPC ai, in any game but especially multiplayer, just isn't any where near good enough to provide an actual challenge once you figure out how to deal with it. The result is frustrating zombies/npcs for those trying to play the pve game, and more pvp centric folk exploiting that to their advantage. I don't see zombies being the end game, I think the opposite is true. Zombies will be an annoyance while you gear up/build a base etc and then fairly trivial, as they are now. Pvp will continue to be the end game, because humans are always going to be the biggest challenge.

Check jeep wrecks and the mil tents. Also the ATC. Basically, mil spawns I guess. I think they should be slightly more common, I love me some binocs. With the abundance of scopes, most people just seem to ignore them though =/

I'm sorry for your bad luck :[ I actually found a can opener at a heli crash the other day, but it was likely dropped (I hope!).

These are not my videos Here's a guy talking about it/demonstrating I think when he shoots the top of the telephone pole it's pretty representative of what I'm talking about (about 1:50), it's really easy to stay accurate on a "small" target like that, and the range he's firing at while not terribly long, I'd argue is still one where you should prefer to be ADS. Here's a kid talking about how he prefers hip fire. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhap3tsxrjw

Then play the mod in the mean time? I don't see the issue and why people try to make a comparison.
-
But can you take off your shoes in the mod yet? No? You'll never be able to? Ok. I loved the mod, I played the shit out of it, but comparing the two is ridiculous. The mod simply can't do things the SA can do, that's the entire point. It will always be a mod, they are creating a game now.

See hacksaws all the time, just check the garages.

If that's what ya wanna rp then that's cool :]

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
Bororm replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
This is ridiculous, there's a difference between KOS and people operating within the rules of the game, and people hacking/cheating. Yes you can avoid hackers to an extent by avoiding current hot spots, but there's no reason why you should have to avoid those spots because of hackers. They're a problem, and it should be addressed. What do you think would happen when everyone stopped going to berezino? You think the hackers would just quit? No, they'd move to whatever the next hot spot was. You can't ignore them and hope they go away, that's a ludicrous approach. -
I'd agree if you had to remake your character, but you don't. You just respawn. It's the same one.
-
When are the devs going to allow us to do something about the hacks?
Bororm replied to lvcrxrcr's topic in General Discussion
Not exactly what you want but http://dayz.com/blog/status-report-week-of-04-august-14 Private shards will be helpful with whitelisting, banning etc. -
I like the regular improvised courier bag (leather one is sorta ugly), I think it looks the best. However, the leather sack looks so incredibly gross that I can't resist using it. The way it wiggles all over and just looks nasty, I am compelled. My least favorite is probably the improved improvised pack.

"Loot: Some guns spawn with ammo now " anyone seen this?
Bororm replied to Forrelist's topic in General Discussion
I've founded some loaded pistols, but it's hard to say if they were dropped or not. I've found guns with mags spawned basically on top of them, rather than in them which I think is more likely what the patch notes meant. It's sorta rare but I do believe it's happening. -
True, but it's gotten worse in recent patches, so adjustments have been made some where along the lines.

Should Rocket go sooner rather than later?
Bororm replied to banjo (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Rocket isn't comparable to a trainee in a kitchen, he's had experience in the industry for a while now, as well as leadership experience else where. It's not a very good comparison, because rocket has more experience than your trainee. -
Tested some more, tapping shots while hip firing is very accurate, and it is easier to control/keep on target than aiming down sights. I tested at about 30-40m with an akm, tapping shots. If people want I can edit it and post a little video, but I feel it's not terribly worth it, as my test wasn't terribly scientific. Just go try it for yourselves, find a decent target (I used some trash cans, and also learned they fall over after a fair amount of hits =P) and just test hip firing on them, and compare it to ads. When it comes to sway the sights are preferred I'd say, but if you're just standing still hip firing seems better for sub 40m ranges. I think you could do decently past that range, but at that point I found it more difficult to tell where my shots were landing by hip firing, as impacts aren't terribly visible on a lot of terrain/surfaces.

A real survivor, doing what a lot of us are simulating doing. But the bandits got him
Bororm replied to IronCross's topic in General Discussion
He's sorta a dick, sounds like he robbed a lot of people. Would you like to know some homeless guy was entering your house all the time, taking stuff? There's a lot of homeless around where I live, if they started coming and taking my stuff I'd definitely be upset. -
Mosin damage blows any more. Shot a guy in the head today, he knocked out for literally the time it took for his character to fall over and then get back up, like half a second. He had a helmet on, but imo a mosin shot to the head should probably just kill you, or if there is a slight chance of being knocked out, it should at least last a while. Furthermore, after that, I had to shoot him 2-3 more times in the chest (he was foolishly standing still while his buddy presumably IVed him).
-
I agree, both suck. Never been a fan of ragdolls in any game really, they're goofy but that's about it, I don't think they fit in dayz very well and add bugs as mentioned. Sounds are a mess and getting worse. Really hope they focus hard on sounds one of these patches.

Heh, I was going to point that out. I heard about that server through a video I saw with a bunch of hackers. The guy making the video didn't even comment on their hacking, I guess it's so common place =P Suppose it's to be expected if you advertise your server like that.

This is when it's most appropriate, the issue I'm bringing up is when it becomes more desirable to fire from the hip in other scenarios where it "shouldn't" necessarily be, simply because it's easier/there are no drawbacks, or potentially even an advantage. I'm trying to research into whether or not it's a common practice to hold your rifle to your shoulder/eyes but not actually use the sights. While there was a technique called "quick kill" or "instinctive fire" that was taught during Vietnam, it seems it is no longer popular and for the most part these things aren't taught outside of more specialized training. Here's a quote directly from the US army field manual on it While that does fit the preferred scenario of when you'd want to use it (in emergencies), again, in DayZ SA it's often preferable to shoot that way at short distances simply because there's little drawback. While I'm more concerned about pvp, I find I hip fire on zombies a lot from 10-20m just because its easier. Actual firing from the hip has fallen out of favor as well too from what I can tell, though it was popular in ww2 and of course as our friend Heav has pointed out, less trained individuals. I still think that an actual animation of firing from the hip or at least a noticeably different stance would be appropriate to better reflect what's going on.

And do people actually raise their gun to their eyes, but not actually aim down the sights to fire? Not when there's no scope involved =P
