    Keys for barricades?

If it's not intended, they need to change it. Because there are games with actual permadeath, and there are games the same as DayZ that don't claim permadeath, because it simply isn't. Nothing about when you die is permanent except your loss of gear. You are the exact same character, and the screen even says "respawn." You can't "respawn" if your character is permanently dead. An example of a game with permadeath is something like hardcore mode on diablo, where your character is straight up deleted when you die. If they ever actually decide to add permadeath, that's great, but I'm sorry Rocket is simply wrong as it stands.

    Keys for barricades?

I play the game, and there's no permadeath. Just because they like to tout it as permadeath doesn't make it so. Also, source on the name not being your character's and just your handle? Because when I actually play the game, and I check some one's pulse it tells me XXXXX's pulse, implying it is the character. It's great that Rocket wants to claim it's permadeath, but until they actually make it permanent in a meaningful way, it's simply not the case right now. There is absolutely no difference from dying/respawning in this game than there is in any other game where you lose all your loot. There's no difference between DayZ and say battlefield when it comes to death, and no ones running around claiming battlefield has permadeath. What they should call it is full loot death or something. Maybe one day they'll add skills and character development and dying will mean something more, but I bet you still won't have to remake your character so even in that case it likely won't be permadeath but instead skill/stat loss.
  3. One of the dev streams, in which Hicks stated it was a 2-3 year development cycle. I think it may be on his twitter as well. Oh here's a crappy article with it http://venturebeat.com/2014/09/10/dayz-still-has-two-years-of-development-ahead/
  4. Game's still got over a year and a half of development left before actual release, sooooo I don't think it's "unacceptable" that controls aren't completely perfect at this point. In fact, I accept it, just like I accepted the alpha/early access disclaimer saying that there would be bugs and the game was incomplete. Come back later if it's that big of a deal for you, until then, if you find it unacceptable then don't be a hypocrite and click accept on the multiple disclaimers.

    1st person dying breed

It doesn't sound like the COD kids have taken over considering COD is first person only, and you're complaining about a lack of population.

    Keys for barricades?

It's not a new character, it's the same one. Your character isn't deleted, you just respawn. Same name, same appearance. People need to get over the idea of "perma death" because it doesn't exist in this game. Why do I need to stockpile supplies while I'm still alive when I can carry everything I need on my person, or just scavenge as I go?

    Keys for barricades?

The point of a base is that you can go back to it after you die. Otherwise, why are you stockpiling things? That said, I'm not opposed to keys as long as you can still break into doors normally as well. It's just quicker/easier access. With persistence, you'd be able to hide your key(s) as well. I think being able to copy keys should be implemented if keys are a thing though. Not only so you can have spares, but for group play purposes. If one's lost, your base is still potentially fucked (granted your attacker knows where your base even is) but you're not just shit out of luck of getting back in your own base either. Destroying a door should destroy the lock, requiring all new keys.

What is wrong with you people?

Most people have explored the map already, that's the issue. Why go across the map to do the same thing you'd do there (pvp), when you can do it closer to where you respawn? This game doesn't have enough content for most people to want to go inland. Until there's greater incentives, people will stick to the coast. It's not laziness etc, it's that the game is pvp right now (it probably always will be, get used to it) so what's the point?

    Ghillie suit, rangefinder ?

This thread is too long. People know they confirmed a "ghillie suit" top right? They're calling it a bush rag I think. It's torso only and will be crafted. There will also be a separate head piece. You won't be able to use a backpack with it. These things are confirmed in the last dev stream. My personal speculation is that it would use the vest slot. As for range finders, they're in the files and being developed as well. In one of the latest status reports it was on the list of things being worked on. Sorry if this has been said, but 13 pages is too long to read through and the little I checked seemed like a bunch of speculation of whether these things were even going to be implemented.

Loot spawns - anyone else frustrated?

I don't think guns are ever going to be that rare, they've put in too much effort for them. High end stuff will probably be hard to come by, but I think there will always be common guns. And the point still stands really, I used to kill guys with as50s and m107s in the mod with my axe.

Loot spawns - anyone else frustrated?

All the guns can kill. You can even knock a guy out. No one's going to "dominate the server or area" just because they have a "better" gun. This game's combat is more about making the best use of your weapon in terms of positioning etc than what the weapon itself actually is.
  12. Put them in your hotbar and have them in your hands to use them.

Why use DayZ as an Ego-Shooter?

This is what you're doing wrong, that's not what it current is. At least not the way you seem to be thinking it. It's a sandbox, play it however you want but it doesn't mean everyone else is going to play the way you want. If it's no fun to play the way you want, then I suggest waiting till more features are added that might help with your playstyle. Personally I have plenty of interactions when I look for them. You probably just need to change your approach, and possibly lower expectations. It's not hard to have interactions that don't result in death but you need to take precautions and approach it with the right attitude especially.
  14. I think people who complain about KOS are "terrible at DayZ."
  15. I typically KOS, when I decide to be nice to people though I expect nothing in return, and pretty much assume I'm going to die. It doesn't bother me. I'm not attached to my gear, so I go in with the attitude of who cares? Almost all my friendly encounters have been positive. I don't really remember the last time I was nice to some one and they killed me. I think having the right attitude goes a long way and people can tell a lot from your tone/voice. If you don't give a shit, and it's obvious, they're less likely to try to kill you to get a rise out of you. I see people a lot saying it's hard to be good, or that they're disappointed when things go bad or whatever but to me it's sorta like, don't be "good" expecting anything from it. If something nice happens that's great, if not that's typical DayZ/video games. I also don't get the black and white attitude of either being good or bad. Just play however you feel like at the time. IMO the only "hard" part about being nice is resisting your own natural urge to shoot people in a video game =P

    Notes on paper

I've said it before but they should really make written notes have a different texture/graphic so you can tell at a glance they're written on.

    .49 Questions

Doors are random on restarts now for sure. No more meta gaming it to tell if people have been there. Dunno about the other things.

Weapons - Where Should They Go Next?

I wonder how long till they add a drum mag for the aug <_< (is that the right face? i'm going for sarcastic/annoyed because it'll probably happen and fuck drum mags =P)

    The 'war on snipers'

Dispersion is pretty minimal on the mosin, with a compensator it's nearly inconsequential.
  20. Bororm

    The 'war on snipers'

The only thing making sniping "difficult" is bugs/lag, the things you listed like desync etc. There's no difference as far as the game is concerned between shooting a player at 100m and shooting a player at 800m if they are stationary, and you aren't aiming at their toe or something where the dispersion will actually matter. Does that mean you'll never miss a stationary target? No, because there's sway and it's hard to tell exactly where you're landing your shots and zeroing is hardly ever exactly on an even number. But for the most part, it's not difficult and if your zeroing is right you'll hit. Hitting moving targets at those ranges can be a challenge, but the challenge is mainly due to inconsistent bullet travel speeds. If it remained consistent, and you practiced enough, hitting moving targets would become fairly predictable. Between random bullet velocities due to server lag and desync however, it is difficult. But those two things aren't something you can actively compensate for. What people want is a little bit more of a consistent challenge, so that practice pays off and there's more skill involved. In ideal conditions in the current state of the game sniping is just hitting page up/page down till you have the right range. I say this as some one who generally tries to pick spots furthest as possible from where I want to snipe for the extra challenge. edit: Just to clarify a couple things. I'm not really saying you're wrong, I missed a stationary target at 700m the other night about 10x too. But after I double checked my zeroing on a wall, I hit him with my next shot. The ones before that I couldn't actually see my impacts, so I couldn't compensate for it, once I had the zeroing perfect it wasn't an issue. So again, when things work it's too easy. When things are buggy/messy there's a "challenge" but not by design. They need to fix those issues too of course, probably before they increase any actual challenge to the sniping mechanics in general. And your last bit about guys being shot and getting away, I agree with 100% which is why I've mentioned in this thread and elsewhere that 3 shots is too many, and that they should be more devastating in general, with even the first shot really messing you up health/status effect wise.

Source please. I'm almost certain no settings affect zombies currently.

    Where are the Smersh vests?

They spawn on the static helicopter crashes. They're extremely rare and you basically need to loot cycle for them. Youtube it, I'm pretty sure the link posted earlier was the correct one explaining it all.
  23. I agree with the comments above on this page. I like to record, but I basically just do it for myself/my group, I'm not out for views or subs, I don't even tag my videos. Do it because you want to do it, not to try to get a popular channel, because unless you have a really good gimmick or are lucky you're not going to get any where with it and trying to get people to like you just comes off as being a dick.

Weapons - Where Should They Go Next?

Unless you're talking about something on experimental that I haven't seen yet, what they did was actually default the view to be further out a while back, giving better situational awareness which is nice, but with the "zoom" taking you back to what it was before that and not actually being increased. It's still significantly less than the mod/arma2 zoom. That was months ago though, so I'm not sure if that's what you're referring to.

Weapons - Where Should They Go Next?

I want an m16 in any form, I don't like how short/compact the m4 is, I think the m16 is much sexier. I'd be perfectly fine with limited attachments for it. I think some pretty basic battle rifles that don't support a lot of attachments would also be nice. Fights right now are pretty much either sniping, or cqb. The mod saw a lot more use out of ironsights and medium range engagements imo, but part of that is due to being able to zoom in more by default. It wasn't very difficult to shoot 300m shots in the mod with some practice using ironsights, in the SA it's hard to even see anything at that distance with the reduced amount of zoom.
