    thoughts/discussion on NPC's

No please. The only npcs I want are zombies/animals. NPC/AI humans ruin the whole experience of player encounters. There's a certain tension of seeing another human character (non zombie obviously), of knowing that it's another person and as a result not knowing their intentions and all the unease that comes along with it. I've played mods like epoch and the ai just completely kills that. You go "oh shit a player, oh wait no it's just ai" and that whole feeling is completely ruined. Same for helicopter crashes imo. There were flying helicopters that would crash/could be shot down in a lot of mod variations, and while they were cool they also completely killed the whole experience of seeing a helicopter in the air being meaningful. When it's only player helis, you know some one put in the effort for that, and again you have no idea of their intentions. Are they going to spot you? Are they going to land nearby? Everything that goes along with knowing it's another person, all that goes out the window when the majority of the time it's just a lame ai chopper. DayZ isn't the game for this stuff, if people want to mod it then fine, but the base game needs to be focused on the player experience. There's already a ton of games with npcs.

One moisin shot to body kill?

Was your helmet pristine, it could have been a headshot, some times you do hear them depending how far the guy was etc. Just watched that video and seems more likely the cause.

    Underground Features

They said they're adding some underground structures soon (or already did?). Originally they talked about underground bases, so they could do a separate instance for them. I think the reason behind that was in terms of deforming terrain/creating bases rather than static ones would pretty much require it. I'm not really sure how they'd go about allowing you to create underground bases on the current map. Maybe as modules it would work where they snap together with basically airlocks, but it would be pretty funky I think.
  4. Not really sure what you're talking about, there was a point where the mosin especially wobbled all over on your back. I dunno if they've changed that since though. Worn clothes do look worn. Do you want physics for backpacks or something? It would be cool but it's a lot of extra work and would probably impact performance quite a bit. Typically if you're travelling long distances you want your pack strapped tight as possible any ways. Have you tried the leather bag? It looks super gross the way it wiggles (a side effect of what you're talking about I think, how it conforms to the character) =P

    Why all the judgement?

Because people are ignorant and stubborn. I wish people would be more tolerant, especially because it's a game where people shouldn't care so much. In general, people need to focus on themselves when it comes to the game, and stop worrying about other people's motivations. A sandbox requires a lot more responsibility for yourself than most people are used to from the majority of modern games, and I think that's where they run into trouble. Worry about yourself (as hypocritical as that phrase is), and have your own fun, don't expect other people to share your same interests.
  6. I haven't played the SA in a bit, but when I last did, AKM/ak101 mags were very common. I think regardless of their commonality, what I'd like to discuss still applies though. I think there should be an animation/short timer for loading mags (able to cancel of course. ideally cancelling early results in a partially filled mag). As it stands, you basically just need 2, one in your gun and one in your pack, because throwing ammo into your empty is just a matter of seconds. There's the smallest benefit of having more obviously, but that's inventory space that can often be used better. This would create a small amount of effort on the player's part to better manage their ammo. I don't know what a reasonable loading time would be, but it would at least put more of a connection between the player the and the act than it currently stands. You might be slightly more hesitant to spray away if you know you're going to have to fuck with ammo in the middle of a fight. I also feel that larger capacity mags, like drum mags should take longer. I suppose the timer could simply be based on the amount of rounds loaded, so if you don't have enough to fill an entire mag it wouldn't take as long. This would also make carrying more mags more attractive, while creating decisions on inventory management. It would potentially create scenarios where you actually have to prepare for a fight as well, as you sort out your gear. I'm hoping this isn't moved straight to the suggestion forum, as I'm more interested in a discussion on it rather than it being a straight suggestion. If people think it's necessary or not etc.

    Loading Mags Animation/Delay

I could do without them personally, but I don't think they're going any where. Still if it took you like a full minute to load one (just spitballing, don't get hung up on numbers) people would at least hopefully be less inclined to spray as much as they do with them, or at least do so with some sort of drawback.

    What to do

    Do whatever you want.
  9. Honestly dude I have no idea what you're trying to say to me. I don't mean any offense by it, but I'm really confused because it seems like you're trying to argue something with me but it also seems like you're saying the same thing I am. All those things you recommend for the radio are exactly what I said.
  10. Just because you can't stop people from using third party programs, doesn't mean you should compromise the integrity of the in game immersion. It's the same reason why you shouldn't have in game maps showing every loot spawn as well, even though people just look it up on the dayz db.

    Newspawns asking to get killed

Guy should have hit respawn when you cuffed him. But I dunno what the OP is complaining about. Shoot him in the leg and leave him, good, who cares, but then don't also bitch about him wanting to suicide. I swear the intolerance towards other people's play styles in DayZ is pretty god damn bad, like worse than a lot of games. People bitching about suicide, people bitching about KOS, people bitching about third person vs first, people bitching about this and that. It's a sandbox, do whatever the fuck you want and mind your own business. Stop worrying about how other people want to play, and play for yourself/your friends. Get over yourselves, there is no "right" or "wrong" way to play a sandbox (cheating aside).
  12. Radios =P In all seriousness though, if radios were more common and perhaps some other improvements on implementation this is the role they should play. This is actually how they function in arma 3 epoch, and people make use of them. The issue as it stands is: -They aren't common enough that the majority of players end up with them -They take a battery to get working, which isn't bad we all start with one, but most people toss theirs and finding one on the ground is sorta a pain at times -Both a radio and a battery take up inventory slots (before being combined obviously), which are valuable. In arma 3 epoch (and just arma in general) radios take up a tool slot. Most people toss their battery because with the initial limited inventory you don't want to bother. Then by the time you find a radio you don't wanna bother searching one out, or have better use for the inventory the radio itself would take. -They've been very inconsistent in working or not, so people kinda gave up on them I think. Any ways, if they could just iron out some of the kinks it would work fine and be a whole lot better than a mystical side chat. It also has the nice benefit of allowing people to opt into it or not, because a lot of people dislike side.
  13. I'm 29 and I love to KOS. I some times also don't and that's fun too, but most of the time I do. It's fun, it's part of the game, and a large appeal to many people (many of which aren't 12). I'm sorry our playstyles don't match up, but I'm not asking you to stop doing whatever it is you enjoy, so don't ask me to. I don't play this game for your enjoyment, I play it for my own (and my friends).

    Move after tossing Grenades

You get locked into a throwing animation, whether they'll change that and allow you to throw while moving I dunno. Arma doesn't allow you to throw while moving, so it might be a conscious design decision. It would kinda be nice to be able to move while throwing so you could throw around a corner and pop back into cover. Though I think there's a little bit of something to be said with being careful about these sorts of decisions, or the game can become faster paced/more twitchy, something we already see with some of the changes from the mod in other areas. Some sort of middle ground would be ideal, where it feels less clunky but still keeps things in a similar pace.

    Very Clever

A "better spawn" is closer to where you want to be, whether it's a specific town or friends or whatever. Of course it's arbitrary, it's subjective based on the person's motives. That doesn't mean it's pointless, and saying people who do it are bad at the game is ridiculous. Why should I run 20 minutes to meet up with friends when I can respawn with a high probability of being a lot closer? Even if we assumed it took as long to get a spawn close to where you want to be as it would to run there, it's still easier. Doing something because it's easier doesn't necessarily mean you're bad at it, in fact in some cases it means you're better at it. Working harder instead of smarter can often be noble, but it doesn't mean the opposite is bad. As for the OP I'm kinda confused, are you implying that you think you died because you killed some one at green mountain and that's a mechanic of the game or something?
  16. If you're too lazy to remap hold breath just use + and - on the numpad to zoom in, that's what I do.

We need a Hardcore (aka Survival) Mode

Most of the stuff you list as hardcore is stuff constantly in flux, like eating/temp/fatigue/sickness etc. These are all systems not even close to being nailed down/balanced, so differentiating servers on those settings right now would be a bad idea. The other things you mention are stuff that's planned regardless. You won't be able to instantly fix your broken leg in the future, you'll have a limp (the animations are already there, but they hit snags with it). Sharpening axes and knives is already there, for a while you only got a few chops off an axe before you'd ruin it. Like 1 or 2 trees worth, I think more recently it doesn't even degrade your axe, which is a bug. That's in flux too though. I'm not saying that in the future when these things actually settle it won't be reasonable to have these things as settings but it's way too early for any of that.

    Discussion: Barricading and Raiding

I agree with Pillock, the situations DocWolf is describing sound fine to me and I don't really see the issue. If large groups wants to take over a town, they should be able to. There's a ton of towns, even if they pumped the server pop up to 150 (their original goal, now I think they've set their sights lower to something like 100) there's not enough groups to fully take over everything. Even if you have 10 people, unless you've got some multinational crew, you're not going to be on constantly. If say you decided to take over elektro and board up the firestations/police station or whatever, your shit is going to get broken down by some guy with an axe in the middle of the night sooner or later. And if we pretend that some how a group does lock down a town and no one can shake them loose, then they deserve that. That's part of the point of a sandbox is what you do matters. I see no issue with this on public servers either. Especially since you can just switch servers. Don't enjoy playing one where some group has locked down cherno? play a different one. Gives a little flavor to the different servers at least. There's nothing preventing an opposing group from forming/organizing any ways. Part of the point of DayZ is that it's "unfair" and you have to take responsibility for yourself. The reality is that it's completely fair, because everyone has access to the same shit. It only seems unfair because some people are inevitably going to be better than you, or more organized, or whatever.
  19. You need to make them happen. I've had plenty of interactions with people. You need to hold an advantage over them, but not be an asshole about it and usually people will open up because most people want to have fun interactions too. The majority of the times I've tried to have fun encounters I have. Tone of voice goes a long way imo, and how you act. If you're acting all weird/too excited/over cautious whatever, forget it. Just be casual and friendly. Hold guys up, but don't disarm them, they'll feel a lot safer. Seriously, this shit goes a looong way. However, tell them to keep their gun put away, or lowered/don't aim at you though. You should have a group, so they don't have much option. The point is to control the situation but again, don't be an asshole about it. People will go along with it, then just treat them nice and have fun. If they're acting too shady, shoot them and try again. The #1 thing I see people do wrong is they are too excitable themselves, and the whole situation seems too forced. I'm not going to play along with some guy who's being all weird. Let people do what they want, but lay out some basic rules. Here's some things that make me not want to play along if some one tries to "interact" with me. -Handcuffs. I never handcuff anyone, and if people try to handcuff me fuck them. You need to let people have their freedom, not dominate them. -Force feeding weird shit. Same deal, if you're going to poison me why should I play along? -Basically anything along those lines, if I see some weird shit go in your hands, forget it -People just being weird/weird voices/voice changers/whatever -Shitty forced RP, if you're a legit RPer cool, if you're just trying to do it for the "lols" forget it Basically that's the point I'm trying to make I guess, if you're doing this shit for your own amusement/basically to troll, then you're going to fail because people can tell. If you want a legitimate fun encounter, then be legitimately fun. Don't be afraid to die/fail, it's just a game.

The term bandit what it means now

Bandit and hero are both misused labels, but they're what stuck. "bandit" is just a pk, a "hero" is just some one who doesn't any more. I think "hero" is the worse of the two, because the vast majority of people claiming that don't fit the description at all. at least with the term "bandit" even if they are just killing people it still fits.

    Killed a backpack-ception guy

I thought they fixed this at one point. I know it's possible again, but I hope they fix it again. Besides being cheesy, it was really bad for server performance as I recall.

When are smoke grenades gonna be implemented?|

I always made sure to carry some smoke grenades in the mod, probably one of the most useful items. Can't wait till they're finally implemented.

    Private Shards

The reason private hives are/were common for the mod is mainly due to hacking. If they can get hacking under control (which seems to be a focus now), I'd personally rather play a public official server because then you eliminate shitty admin abuse as well (something that with private hives was potentially as bad or worse than the hackers). Now private shards and hives are different, and there's not a whole lot of real solid info yet aside from what's been posted above, but they are potentially less useful than private hives were. Admins seem more limited in their controls, but there's still the potential to kick/ban you from their server simply because your playstyle doesn't clash, or you killed them or whatever. I think the main benefit of a private shard would be the potential for tighter formed communities, but finding one that doesn't suck will likely be a pain. Basically 90% of the people you give any sort of power to are going to abuse it to some degree.
  24. You guys realize the flash light serves as a basic tutorial on how to do basically everything right? You drag the battery onto flashlight, now you know how to use items on each other. You drag the light into your hands, now you know how to equip shit. It goes on the hotbar, now you know how to use the hotbar. You have to raise it to use it, now you know how to raise your weapon etc. I know for most people all that shit is obvious, but you'd be surprised how many times I've actually seen people ask how to use the flashlight or whatever. It's actually a fairly clever little tutorial for people to figure out basically every interaction from. Also, spawning at night blows without one.

    Keys for barricades?

It can't be argued by the fact that it's alpha, because it's already being claimed to be permadeath right now. This isn't like vehicles, where they say they will be added. They claim it's already in the game, and it simply isn't. So yes, Rocket is wrong and while it's not the end of the world by any stretch, people fall into this misinformation and perpetuate a weird notion that simply isn't supported by any actual evidence beyond Rocket simply stating something. "They are adding permadeath bit by bit." There's been no work in this direction at all thus far. Maybe it will come, but the fact that they are already claiming it to be permadeath and making no effort after 10 months to actually make it so, implies to me that they truly believe they're using the correct terminology already for something that simply isn't accurate.
