Will admins to have option for a dexterity free server?
Bororm replied to Connect3d's topic in General Discussion
I'm sure with modding you will be able to do whatever you want. -
And what do you think those 4 players are doing? ;)
-
Nice, what a bunch of sore losers.
-
Well the problem is that in practice it doesn't end up that way. In practice the guy sprinting, just sprints up to the slow guy and blows him away because it's so hard to hit a sprinting target. The other factor is that even with a ton of sway, using a 60 or 75 round mag or one of the shotguns fairly negates it because you just spray them down and as long as a few rounds connect you're in good shape. DayZ pvp currently is highly movement based, and standing still or moving slow gets you killed the majority of the time. I'm not saying it never ever works, but for the most part that's how fights play out, they're very close and very fast or else you're sniping with a mosin. High zombie numbers aren't going to change that, you're just going to want to run around even more.

I can confirm that shooting out tires now stops trucks. Just tried to drive one missing a rear wheel and it was super slow/essentially useless.
-
I disagree, nothing feels worse in an FPS than dying because of RNG.

When you know you play too much Dayz :p
Bororm replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
Too bad all the hospitals in dayz have is press vests and chilly peppers and basically no actual medical supplies. -
Actually the cargo one is typically slower. It also flips easier and unlike the non cargo one, when it's on its side that's that, the back prevents the wheels from gripping the ground like the normal one and ya can't re-right it. If a truck isn't actually "destroyed" (catches on fire) you can drive it even missing wheels. Or at least, the patch before last you could. Haven't tested it this patch.

I agree with Heav, people just find ways to avoid zombies and keep killing. If anything, more zombies is often more of an inconvenience for the victim rather than the killer. A typical scenario is a bandit in a high place just popping dudes, zombies aren't a big issue and anyone trying to return fire on the ground is both going to attract zombies to themselves, giving them away and also have to deal with the constant inconvenience. Heck in the mod I used to try to attract a ton of zombies to the base of my building as a defense. In the SA they climb ladders (some times) but who's going to have the harder time still? The guy who can just bop them as they come up a ladder or the guy on the ground? People who complain about pvp seem to think pvpers are dumb or something, typically people who like to pvp in dayz are the ones who understand the game the best. Both in terms of mechanics and philosophy imo.
-
Right. I was referring to what I believe is the direction they are taking them in the SA. Since they're obviously not going for camo/hiding them hahaha
-
Sounds like the servers you played were just full of bad people =P They were really easy to take out. Considering tents are way more obvious I think they're going in a different direction for bases in the SA. Not of trying to hide them but of some how defending/securing them even when you aren't around (traps/barricading etc). I don't think it will be as much of an issue in that regard. Even then, I never had a problem with it in the mod.

How does the loot spawn actually work with persistence?
Bororm replied to IgnobleBasterd's topic in General Discussion
Uhh, pretty much every online game ever has server restarts. The goal is to get them to be less frequent, but they'll always be part of it. Even WoW goes down every Tuesday night you know? -
Every time I do manage to get a mag for this thing I die before actually getting to use it. If the mags were more common it would probably be cool, but as is I have just never even seen one used in combat by my group or my enemies. Also, some one tell Chris Torchia that this gun is already in the game (the joke is that the cr527 never has a mag and is this thing): http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/222249-trello-chris-izh18-render/ =P

I'd like helis like the mod, and some simple planes. It's fun, they can take a lot of work and have limited numbers of them. It gives people something to do. I want Take on Helicopters style of piloting.
-
In that case why don't you just shoot him with the mosin? =P You posited the scenario of entering close quarters. I've had it happen with pistols before when I don't have a holster. Your backpack will probably break on the first chest shot in my experience, but a lot of guns take multiple shots to kill. There's a lot of scenarios where you may not necessarily even be close quarters any ways and still get tagged and ruin your gun too. I mean, it's not completely pointless and it'll work some times but its just not very reliable and takes up a ton of inventory. I personally don't think it's worthwhile, but if it works for you then that's what matters.
-
The problem with that is as soon as you get shot with a gun in your bag it gets ruined and then you're stuck trying to shoot a gun that won't work. The only reliable side arms are pistols in holsters because they don't become ruined with your gear.
-
SMGs would be better if they were more abundant (something that has improved with prison island and police cars at least). The problem is that you can probably find an AK or shotgun sooner, both of which are arguably better at the same ranges and in the case of the assault rifles at longer range. A lot like most pistols that require a mag. They fill a niche with too much overlap for their rarity. They can spray pretty fast though, the recoil isn't horrible and they take some cool attachments so they aren't useless. Just one of those things where you're probably going to use it for style points over practicality however. Which lets be honest, style is the most important thing any ways.
-
I call them schools. They're scaled down like every building so I forgive the lack of student desks. Think there's even a class picture on the bulletin board in the bottom. Doesn't really matter what you call each building as long as your group is consistent though.
-
When I started the mod I made a point not to look at any online maps until I had found a map in game. Now I can navigate the map without any help, like most people who have played for a while. The loot locations in the dayzdb map for the SA aren't as accurate as they were for the mod, since I believe people don't actually have access to the loot tables. So it's player submitted data, which I notice changes each patch. It's still probably like 90% accurate but I find myself not using the dayzdb map as much as I did in the mod any more. I wouldn't really call it cheating. I used to have a binder of printed out maps for EQ back in the day =P I do wish there was more incentive to use the in game maps.

What were you guys wearing, are you sure it wasn't hyperthermia (too hot) rather than hypothermia. Had a fire today and didn't have an issue.

"Missing question" during PAX East: Storytelling through Player Interaction
Bororm replied to ☣BioHaze☣'s topic in General Discussion
At the end of the day they can make all the changes they want but most players adapt and it isn't actually difficult. I think people are kidding themselves if they think this game is going to turn into massive zombie hordes with super scarce food and everyone's going to be running around searching for a single can of beans or whatever. Usually as the game gets "harder" it's the "bandits" for lack of a better term that adapt the best, because generally speaking they've realized not to give a shit and will just kamakazi to get their kills if the game is too difficult. To put it another way, the players who play like victims are always going to be victims. And those players are the ones who complain about pvp and kos and sit around hoping the game is going to change enough to diminish it so they don't have to cope with it themselves. Which is counter to the entire design philosophy of an open sandbox, where responsibility for yourself is exactly that, your own responsibility. Those who understand that (which I'd say every one of those streamers/youtubers in that panel do, from what I've seen) are never going to have difficulty adapting. -
.54 has a ton of desync issues. There's some really wonky stuff going on, like trucks straight up disappearing etc. Desync for players is very bad too. Had a few occasions where a player was prone but standing for other people etc. These problems are a big deal imo because inconsistencies between what people are doing and others are experiencing just results in a terrible time for everyone. Desync isn't anything new and I doubt it will ever fully go away, but this patch definitely was a step back in that regard.

Awesome! Good work.

Why use duped items? You're just keeping them in circulation.

I think I might have a problem with shotguns...
Bororm replied to emuthreat's topic in General Discussion
It's the first one I've ever found, and the second one I've ever seen. I have a feeling they might be slightly more common this patch, or maybe I was just very lucky. Yet to see the mace, sounds like you have good luck with that stuff!
