You're going to be really disappointed.

They should have got a proper loot respawn system in place before forcing persistence. That's the reason no one wanted persistence before. Looting is basically the heart of the game, even their self sufficient methods of survival are all still dependent on looting. You want a bow? You need an axe to chop a tree. You want to fish? You need a shovel/farming tool to get worms and rope. You want to farm? You need tools and a water container. You want to hunt? You better use a gun or the things just gonna run off. Want to snare/trap? Need wire/bottles.

dayz survival=find an apple tree next to a pump pvp is survival in dayz
-
Just spam pick apple on a tree probably.

I'd love them to be a reliable source of something like the cr527 and its mags, or crossbows and bolts and other hunting sorta things that once in a while you feel like using but when you actually decide to you can't find the ammo any where or whatever.

Well said JubeiDOK on both topics. I think most people want/enjoy a harder experience, but giving people something then taking it away is a bad process to do it. It just results in it feeling like an arbitrary condition. Now the game is suddenly hard because things were taken away, not necessarily because it was designed that way.

Full auto weapons have nothing to do with Cernarus atmosphere, nor survival lifestyle
Bororm replied to lucianpin's topic in General Discussion
And then when you get in a fight, you just log off and back on in a completely random location. Or in the idea of a random area around the town, you have a chance to instantly flank them etc You lose connection because the server hiccupped or your connection did and the same deal, now you're across the map from your friends or you just spawned in infront of some random guy. These are bad ideas. You can already get around server hoppers by just playing a private shard. I understand reservations on that front, I'd prefer to play public too, but there is a choice. -
Good luck convincing anyone of anything when there's a very vocal community of 1pp people using such toxic language. It's hard to convince people to try something when you are constantly telling them they are doing it wrong and worse. I started this game in third person and it's the mode I prefer. I've played first person and it's alright but it's not my preference. In ArmA I often play first person as it suits some of the game styles better for me. That said, the first person community on DayZ gets no sympathy from me when all they do is spout untrue rhetoric in the most obnoxious and insulting way possible. To address the feel of the SA as a whole there's a variety of issues, not least of which a lot of us are playing a game that's essentially 3 years old now (the SA has a lot of differences from the mod, but at the heart it's the same game). The SA has started over and made a ton of improvements but unfortunately they're coming in increments that we're all here to experience as they happen. The end result is that there's no drastic change to gameplay over the course of this period and there's really nothing more to do now than there was 3 years ago, arguably less in terms of end goals as the SA lacks persistence in any meaningful fashion. That stuff will change, but again we'll be there as it does and there's the risk of being burnt out. I'm in such a period myself right now where the private server I play has begun a decline, and between that and other factors I've reached yet another lull in my enthusiasm to play. Taking breaks is healthy however, and coming back with another patch or two can respark that interest.

Never heard of that. You sure you don't mean the compass?

If you right click something in your inventory, like say a bandage, you can cancel action that way.
-
It's a bug as it stands, so you can do it however you like. Props to you if you like taking the hard way, but no, vomiting is not doing it wrong haha

People are talking about trying to balance (nerf) sniping? Really? There's not even a proper sniper rifle in the game yet. It takes 3 shots average to kill a geared person. The desync and issues between stances (people doing the switch dance, people sliding around kneeling, appearing standing when you're actually prone or vis versa) as well as turn speed, general lag, limitations of the network bubble and a multitude of other stuff already assures that sniping is pretty shit. Let's worry about hitting a target that's able to sprint and instant turn even after being hit while sliding and even "teleporting" around before having to account for wind and proper zeroing. Don't get me wrong, those are things I'd like. But sniping in the SA is pretty much in the worst spot it could be right now. It doesn't need more headaches just yet. Let's worry about getting an actual sniper rifle in the game first too, something the devs seem adamant about putting off as long as possible while either adding assault rifles or single shot pea shooters.

You don't really need to do it slow and steady, you just need to use eat and drink instead of eat all/drink all as you say. But you can still do it in one sitting of just eating a bunch of cans and drinking from a bottle/container. Actually now sodas are a lot more valuable as they give a bit of both and you don't have to spend so long eating/drinking them. Peaches are probably still the best, with beans second (giving you both hydration/energy). Rice and cereal are basically worthless now as they tip the scale too much in one direction. If you do tip your thing too far, just drink from a fountain till you vomit to reset it. You can heal while stuffed as long as you get them both bright green. It's basically just balancing hydration and eating, without the eat all function which is just tedious and lame.

The first slab of meat was free hanging. I'm not trying to defend that video as I stated it is a bit goofy as are all those demonstrations. The point however is, without protection you wouldn't want to get hit by a sword or any sharp object as you say. I think people take things too seriously and get too technical, at the end of the day do you want to let some one wack you with a sword and go "see, it didn't damage me as much as that video because I wasn't braced?" =P This game isn't ever going to have dismemberment so that doesn't really matter. It should result in fractures for sure, and honestly I wouldn't even mind if a couple hits would just knock some one out even if not kill them as that's the closest representation we've currently got to crippling some one.
-
So I just found one actually, if anything good becomes of it I'll post some more screenshots. This one is damaged state, though I honestly don't think it really matters for melee weapons as ruined axes etc seem to kill in just as many hits?
-
The description on it is that it's a replica, it's not an antique. I'd be fine with having to sharpen it or something too though. I don't think the dayz one is a hand and half sword, but this is the closest example I could find. Most of their swords have pretty similar results. Mildly goofy video but demonstrates why you definitely wouldn't want to get hit by any kinda sword without protection: Some of their other ones they hit ballistic gel dummies that are sufficiently gruesome http://www.coldsteel.com/Category/4_1/Swords.aspx

It is really bad. I haven't had a chance to hit a player yet (been shot trying!) but you can just tell from hitting zombies they are terrible. It's a few head shots to even kill a zombie, it just knocks them down. Something interesting is that I think it uses some knife statistics. There was a bit in some patch notes about not being able to use it to skin animals any more, the way it is drawn/swung is also a clue (doesn't have a pull out animation). This seems to be what they do for most melee weapons actually, is just copy paste some stats. It's sorta disheartening, but I'm sure it's all place holder till they get a better melee system in. Still, changing a few numbers isn't so hard. Actually I suppose that is a bit of the issue, is that big balance changes aren't a priority but it is hard to judge just how good these weapons are against players when they are so difficult to find (more so the sword). The mace is flanged, so it should do a bit more damage than a wrench I'd imagine. I do agree that unlike the sword, it probably wouldn't necessarily be lethal with body shots however. It would be nice in general if there were more status effects to damage, and perhaps we'll see a bit of that as the game progresses. They are working on staggering hits to zombies with hints that we'll see it on players eventually, so maybe it will play a role later. It would be nice if being hit by a mace would result in consistent fractures at least for the time being. Likewise, I agree that the sword should not be a one hit kill, but it should cause some very severe damage. Two seems pretty reasonable to me against average gear. Obviously we're still early in development so all these things can change. For the time being, I'd be happy if they just slightly bumped the spawn rate on the thing (I still want them rare). Even as a status symbol they're a bit ill served currently, as I have only ever seen a single one on another player and it just served to make me question his validity =P

Simulating verbal communication with mic chat
Bororm replied to Pokerguy12's topic in General Discussion
First things first before fancy settings is reliability. You miss out on half the things people say some times, and sounds in general are probably one of the buggy aspects of the game. They need to work on that, then maybe sliders and what not. Although in my experience when it does work properly there is a little bit of environmental impact already and talking softer/louder does work to an extent. -

Good server, good staff. Been playing their servers off and on for close to 2 years now. -
How do you solve the heating problem with ghillie?
Bororm replied to IgnobleBasterd's topic in General Discussion
Some one on these boards said they carry a rope/burlap and make the improvised bag to put their ghillie on while they move then just break it down when they put it on, I thought that sounded like a pretty cool idea. Most people just plan around water sources as mentioned though. Also, it's raining like 75% of the time any ways, at least on the server I play =P -
As others have said it's just inconsistent, usually depending on gear. It often takes 3 mosin body shots to kill a person in my experience, from range any ways which is just another reason why sniping is pretty shit right now. Then some times you'll just die in one hit. My personal theory is there's a ton of tiny attributes to each type of clothing (we already sorta know this as they have different protection stats) and that items in your inventory also play a role. The end result being that a bunch of crap can end up soaking a round or two. Even a t-shirt will soak a mosin round some times. Another thing is that you might get hit in the weapon. I tested this with melee weapons, and weirdly being shot in a melee weapon in your hands will damage your leg slot. The same seemed to be true of guns, however I have also had experiences where I shoot a gun and deal no damage to the player, so that one I'm not sure what factors in. Any ways, the point is, it's so inconsistent and unreliable that who fucken knows =P I will say that I like that there's a bit of mystery to the whole damage model though, it's a bit boring when people just find every single statistic and meta game the shit out of stuff. However, I think 7.62x54 should be a lot deadlier more consistently and that overall players soak too much damage. Don't even get into the melee damages, they're total horse shit.

why are there so many novodmitrovsk area spawns?
Bororm replied to Wookieenoob's topic in General Discussion
There's no spawns west of cherno because originally the west was supposed to be the new north basically. In the mod you went south to north, in the SA they wanted you to go east to west for military gear/bases. The thing is the spawns like khelm/klen, and other far north east towns are pretty much even closer to places like the NWAF and Vybor base than the southern spawns. There is also just an abundance of military spawns scattered through out the map any ways. I could do with some less inland spawns imo, I liked it much better when you only spawned on the coast. -
It's clearly not a russian tactical shirt.
-
That's an exploit, so no it's not ok. Will you get banned for it? no. Will you be a scumbag if you do it? Yes. =P

As far as gameplay goes, I'd much rather the guns just shoot straight and the things that affect your accuracy are sway etc. I don't want to get in a fight and lose because my gun decided to shoot a foot to the left even though I had my sights straight on him, and my opponent's didn't. That just feels bad.
