I thought I heard they spawn on car wrecks as well (humvees or something)? I don't think they are restricted to helicopter crashes, though I can't confirm that.

Debating coming back, where can I see. 57 change log?
Bororm replied to venkman302's topic in General Discussion
To elaborate, in case you missed .53 since that was like maybe 3 months ago. That to me and my group felt like basically the best the SA had been since the alpha started. It seemed closest to the mod, in that vehicles (the single truck currently implemented) were pretty abundant, gear seemed about right and encounters were plentiful and interesting. On our private hive at least. Then they hit us with .54 which messed up some performance and stuff, and then .55 was just awful. So .57 feels like things are potentially getting back on track. There's still issues for sure, but I think the potential is back to have a good time. I suppose it depends on what you want out of the game too though, to me I want the mod experience with better mechanics and so I enjoy pvp and prefer lots of loot over no loot, and don't care about a lack of zombies. For others they want basically the opposite though. Hopefully a happy middle ground will be the eventual outcome. -
I don't have a problem with it. I think they showed/semi-confirmed you can fall from greater heights when the new falling animation is implemented (is it already? I don't even know). I don't think it should be too high, or you run into a potential problem of people getting into weird positions they shouldn't necessarily be able to. Jumping to new roofs etc. I suppose there's a valid argument that it's a sandbox so who cares, and eventually we'll have helicopters any ways (though on the helicopter note it offers another issue, you don't want people just doing ninja leaps off them once they're implemented, for super fast inserts.) but it's something to be considered.

It's definitely worlds better than last patch. -

Say goodbye to you flashlights. (and free batteries)
Bororm replied to emuthreat's topic in General Discussion
That's a bit disappointing. IMO the flashlight was the perfect unobtrusive tutorial for how to play. You combine the battery and learn how to combine/craft. You put it in your hands and learn how to do that+raise/lower a "weapon" etc. Tearing up your shirt also served the same purpose, and created an interesting dilemma off the bat. I always tore mine up immediately, but it does offer a decent amount more protection than not if you don't. There's also the risk of it getting ruined before you could use it as a bandage too. In any case, I thought both those things were a nice way to familiarize players with some of the mechanics. -
I know you're not saying this but I just think the team should keep in mind that they shouldn't push player progression too hard. The mod had great map flow (player progression) of starting on the coast and heading north for military grade weapons/gear, a clear incentive, and then returning to the coast to make "use" of said weapons. It's fine if the new focus isn't on that type of item solely, there's plenty of other useful gear/vehicles/things to motivate people off the coast besides guns, but I think the team should refrain from essentially forcing people off the coast. In another post of yours, perhaps it was a status report, you said that you wanted to get people off the coast so they could begin the "real dayz experience." I think that's a dangerous train of thought when trying to create a sandbox experience. What we saw with recent patches was the coast becoming barren of loot in a lot of cases. That's a result of an incomplete system of course, and I expect it will improve once the regional control over the CLE that you mention becomes developed. But it did seem like you were advocating it as a good thing, to get people off the coast. It seems like a really artificial way to get people to move by simply putting less essential loot (food/clothing/basic weaponry) on the coast and driving people inland. People should be capable of playing on any part of the map, and there should be incentives ("better" gear) to travel. Don't try to force an experience. Keep up the good work, I'm looking forward to seeing the CLE fleshed out!

I appreciate their hard work, I think they need better leadership though.

By definition third person is being able to see more than your character, they are wasting their time trying to defy logic.

It's not that long after the apocalypse. There's plenty of destruction, I dunno where people live when they make these complaints but my streets aren't full of rubble and burnt out cars and stuff, or most buildings having their windows wrecked etc. It makes me wonder if the graphic settings play a big part of this, because I see this complaint all the time and just don't get it. Think of it as the place was abandoned quickly rather than everyone died and went to shit, and it makes a lot more sense.

Don't bother with Biohaze, he's another person I added to my ignore list because he is incapable of reason.
-
Guess what, everyone already has tried first person. It's an option. Quit trying to force people to play the way you want them to. I'm not trying to force you to play how I like to. People have preference, yours is the minority. Bummer, deal with it.

How would you feel if 1st person perspective was mandatory?
Bororm replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
Spoken like some one who's either never actually played, or can't think another step beyond as I've already mentioned. Almost every roof top/hill/elevated position has another one higher/equally high to it. Let's also not forget that you can't fire on anyone without exposing yourself. The person who is waiting for the player to pop up to shoot actually has the advantage if he knows some one is there, because of the delay in going from prone to crouching/standing. You know how you can completely negate anyone on an elevated position? Assume they are there. Easy, done. If you can't assume where people are going to be and put cover between yourself and them then you need to play more. And going back to the omnipresent eyeball thing, if you are prone behind a ledge, you can't look down for shit. That's why people are ridiculous in these discussions, they grossly over estimate just how much you can even see. Go do this stuff for periods of time, it is not nearly as bad as people pretend. Even in situations like behind a corner in a room, with no windows, there's always the option of being defensive rather than offensive. Just because you can't charge around a corner at some one doesn't mean it's an impossible situation. How many fights in the jail have you had where you came out on top, breaching? I've had numerous. You don't win them all, but that's the game. It's whoever makes the best of the situation. Let's take the exact same scenario in first person, the person in the jail around the corner just has to position himself at the back of the hall instead of at the corner, he still has the advantage as soon as the other player comes around, and if he's sitting still he has the advantage of hearing the other player coming. Or he can even just choose to sit at that corner and wait for the doors to open, he doesn't even have to expose himself because you can hear them open. He chose a better position for the tools he has, it has nothing to do with the camera, except to adapt your strategy. If you can't adapt your strategy, to fit the tools that everyone has, then you are going to fail. That doesn't make it unfair, that doesn't make it cheating, that means you as and individual have failed. Learn to play instead of asking the game to change for you. -
Sway isn't bad at all currently, I think it could even use more, especially after sprinting all over the place. Stances should affect it greater though, with prone reducing it significantly. Hold breath button should work better as well to stabilize it.

Aircraft: What kinds would you like to see? Share your opinion!
Bororm replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
Similar to the mod(s) is my vote. Helicopters with mounted door guns were cool, and if they make it so you have to find the guns separately it would be even better. They were never much of an issue in the mod, you could kill people but it usually would take you a whole belt, it was difficult and you were an easy target while you did it. Smallish planes would be good, again similar to the mod. The gyros in some stuff like epoch were fun with grenades. Aircraft are an "end game" deal, so variety is nice. -
How would you feel if 1st person perspective was mandatory?
Bororm replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
Everyone who bitches about wall peeking being unfair should go do it for a while and then let me know how it ends up when they get shot eventually any ways, by some one doing it back to them. You don't get an omnipresent eyeball, you're always vulnerable to another angle, it's not unfair, it's not an exploit unless you consider shit like listening for people an exploit too. The most ironic part about this shit is the lack of perspective people who are against third person actually have. Use your brains please, think past your immediate scenario of you being shot by a guy you didn't see, put your bias aside and reason it out. Everyone's using the same tools and everyone is vulnerable, it's a matter of positioning not camera. You could change the camera any way you want, and the person in ambush is still going to have the advantage. It's you who are failing when you die to this, not the mechanic. If you don't like playing like that, then that is your personal preference. If you find that style of combat boring, that is your right and preference. Play first person. What is inaccurate is to start saying it is "cheating" to start saying the mechanic is "flawed" that it is "unfair." It is none of these things objectively, you are the one with the problem not the camera. You want it changed because you can't cope. It's the same as if you went into counter strike and said you wanted a third person camera. The game is fine, learn to play. -
I mean binocs were probably the best item to find after a weapon in the mod, and it had more zoom than the SA. They're still extremely useful. Once again people grossly exaggerate the effect of some of these mechanics.

I think the topic should be banned from this forum honestly. They give temp bans for things a lot less stupid, and ban discussion on things like hacking which are a lot more productive than this. -
You keep saying this but you realize that already happens naturally right? Read text on this forum and pay attention to your peripheral even like people's avatars, you're already focusing on one thing and everything else is blurry as a result. That already happens in game as well. I dunno if you record, but I can't tell you how many times I am focused on something and die, only to watch what happened and see some guy plainly obvious that I missed. You don't need to blur edges to simulate peripherals, it's already in effect.
-
Just blurring the edges of the screen all the time sounds like a really awful idea to me. Read the post by Pilgrim above you, it has some good points.
-
I dunno about anyone else but I already tunnel vision hard when zooming in, especially in ironsights. I don't think extra fuzziness in the peripheral is necessary. In fact, disciplining yourself to pay attention even while zooming is one of those gameplay kinda "skills" that is a good thing, something the player has to do rather than a mechanic taking over. I think it's fair to point out that if this reduction is to combat killing there's already a ton of other factors in the game that have reduced most encounters down to sub 100m, really more like sub 50m when not using a scoped weapon. And that this just puts a bigger gap between the haves and have nots when it comes to scopes. Being able to overcome a sniper with ironsights should be doable to a reasonable distance (lets say 300m or less). Hardly being able to see a guy at 100m is just going to give that guy with a scope an even bigger advantage. Some of the other factors creating closer encounters in the SA compared to the mod are the damage model (generally soaking more damage), run speeds (going to be reduced but shouldn't something that is guaranteed like that be done before trying to balance other aspects?), the huge increase in cover (enterable buildings especially, but even wilderness areas have more). Medium range engagements without a scope have taken a huge backseat in the SA for a long time now, even without these last two adjustments. Now it's to the point where they will be practically nonexistent. Which is a shame, because the map size and some mechanics (lets not forget pretty much every weapon zeros now) really lend themselves to those kinds of engagements, and in the mod they were some of the most interesting in my opinion. They also do little to curve closer engagements, as getting in close is still a valid strategy. The SA has been too run and gun imo, and this is just going to increase it.
-
Maybe if the team would tell us the purpose of these types of experimentation there'd be less frustration. And how do you make stuff "clearer" on the resolutions we're playing at?
-
They're zombies. Half the time the devs refer to them they're zombies too. They can be both, infected and zombies. Trying to shoehorn in a backstory was silly of them imo.

Bororm replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
People who don't like third person just can't adapt to the advanced tactics required, then claim there are no tactics involved and that it's unfair. I'm sure there's no strategy involved in any RTS game because they all have bird's eye views right? It's about playing that extra step ahead of your opponent, given the extra information you have. Advantages are created due to positioning, regardless of the camera. But it's easier to cry and wish the game would change for you, so you don't have to. Learn to play. -
No idea why your frame rate affects your run speed (never heard of that in any game besides arma/dayz) but that's what it is.
