Of course, who knows when that will be. Probably beta.

That's the issue of early access. Most games didn't used to let people play them this early in development. But then developers realized they can get people to pay for their game before it's even close to complete. In DayZ's case it made some sense because it was a promised remake of a mod, into an actual game and it was something people were very interested in. It was similar enough to the mod that players should have known it would be a bumpy road and what they were in for. Of course, it brought in a lot of new players too that didn't necessarily understand the process. For the most part early access is fairly terrible for the industry though, from a non-business standpoint (I believe any time a creative process focuses on money instead of the project it suffers). It allows a lot of developers to start projects and not complete them while still getting often times the same amount of money. It is bad for players because they are paying for incomplete games, and alphas/betas etc that in the past would have been free to them. In the case of DayZ I don't think it is that bad, I do believe they will complete the game and that they are on track. They had a reasonable pricing point as well, although I think it's still a fair argument that at this point in any game's development it should not be charged for.

How would you feel if 1st person perspective was mandatory?
Bororm replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
This is exactly it. I didn't vote because it's a stupid poll to begin with, and the options are worded ridiculously. You know where the people who would have voted are? They're playing the game, on third person servers and don't give a shit about a stupid hypothetical that isn't going to happen. These forums are pretty much dead as is, there's hardly any discussion and topics like this that are a circle jerk are the only ones that keep going. You know what all the people who want 1st person only should do? Go play first person, with each other, and populate your servers instead of just talking about it and trying to force everyone else to change. -
A complete guide to loot on .57 (Work in progress)
Bororm replied to tandwan's topic in General Discussion
the "college" as you call it can spawn the m65 jacket. -
It's the Central Loot Economy, basically what they're calling their loot distribution system. Here's a thread about it: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/223307-central-economy/ Basically it's their system to govern where/when/what spawns in terms of items. So for instance, tying a particular weapon to a particular area and the % it spawns at as well as how many are allowed per server. It is incredibly incomplete at the moment.

I think you hit his hands on the second shot. This is something my friends and I have been noticing about the SA, is that the way your character holds his weapon, you're often hitting arms/hands or even their gun, for a lot less damage than torso shots. I think you can also generally assume each layer of clothing is going to absorb the majority of a shot. Even a shirt. Damage in the SA is such a terrible mess. I know they aren't trying to do balance passes yet but I really wish they'd make a preliminary one.

When they fix the scope issue it won't be thaaat bad. I don't think all weapons need to be equal, there's gonna be ones that are clearly shit but that just makes using them and winning with them all the more fun. DayZ pvp is as much about positioning and making use of what you got as the weapon itself, if not more so. I think there's a point where weapons can be so bad they need to have their damage tweaked (see my sword thread/90% of melee weapons in general) but I don't think the cr527 is one of those. If you get outclassed by a pistol with it, it means you got too close =P I personally like trying the "crappy" weapons and trying to overcome the odds, it's that much more satisfying when you win.
-
Hey so I was just using this. There's a major problem in that every time you fire you're taken out of the scope, making it impossible to tell where your shot landed. If you're in third person and scoped, it pops you to third. If you're first person and scoped, it fucks up your camera something special and puts it under your body/contorts your player. I tried relogging and also removing/replacing the scope and it didn't fix it. So, between that and the crappy damage and velocity (for a "sniping" weapon) I don't think it's really worthwhile.

Just hit a fresh spawn 6 times. He only bled on the 6th hit, none of his clothing got visibly ruined or even damaged. He ran off. I just had a guy test hitting me with it. I asked him to do body shots but his aim was a little low, and he hit my legs. It was consistent though, he only hit my legs. It took 9 hits before I went unconscious/died.

Got in a couple more battles. First one was against a guy with an aug and 60 round mag in a field. Don't think I need to say more about that =P Other was a guy at the nwaf. Snuck up on him and missed my first swing :[ Hit him in the torso, no visible clothing damage but caused him to bleed. Missed third swing and he ran so I ran too, not wanting a situation where he'd just turn and shoot on me. Eventually my friend and I re-encountered him. My friend shot him twice with a winchestor. I ran up on him and hit him: Due to wonderful desync, even though I was on the side of him and he seemed to be clearly shooting at my friend and not me, he shot me in the legs and broke my legs. He then ran up on my buddy and got him too. He seemed really oblivious to me, I don't think he even realized he shot me in the legs or that I was there. So I crawled over as he looted my friend. If only you could swing while prone... I had to crouch to swing and so he just moved out of the way and shot me. He seemed like a cool upbeat guy though, and was tough so whatever.

Yeah I've been spending a good deal of time at the nwaf and hardly run into anyone. A few groups here and there but they are super far between. There's not a whole lot of appeal, and I think people just go there out of habit in .57, then once they realize the loot isn't great they probably stop bothering. Same with all the mil bases really. Vehicle wrecks, new police stations, deer stands and other things like that are better sources for weapons/gear than barracks/atc/tents/jails and other military buildings currently. I'm sure they'll sort it out, but currently there feels to be a real lack of hot spots. Helicopter crashes are static, but people just server hop them, so again once people realize this stuff they stop bothering. I'm pretty curious actually what people actually are doing in .57.

Attacked a couple more guys today. Was in the police station thing at the nwaf, with my friend overwatching sniping. Plan was that when people check the loot on the porch I'd run out and chop them. Wasn't really counting on three people to show up =P They came to the porch as expected, I told my friend to shoot and as he did one ran straight in. That's all his blood. He fired a few rounds but apparently didn't have much ammo in his mag. He missed me a few times as I hit him multiple times, he clicked as he was out of ammo and then bailed out the front. I'd say I probably hit him 3-4+ times, you can see he's bleeding from what looks like 3 locations. I missed him a bit too, like the screenshot. They regrouped outside and I shut myself into one of the rooms. Eventually one of them came back in. I hit this guy a couple times, it was really laggy though. I heard the "Arghh!" sound that happens when your character takes damage, and I'm pretty sure I hit his head. Unfortunately I died, and didn't kill him though. I think you really gotta go for headshots or you do barely any damage at all. And against helmets they block it significantly. The only real kill I got so far was the one I mentioned before, with a headshot against a cowboy hat. With these guys I was trying to just press the attack and not let up. I think probably a better technique is to try for a headshot a couple times and if you don't get it, get the fuck out and then try again. Sticking to a guy with an automatic when the sword does so little damage doesn't end up well for obvious reasons =P

Sprained Ankle - what are my options?

Must be a status bug then, makes sense I guess! -
How did any of the literal millions of dayz players ever learn the game without single player? :[

Sprained Ankle - what are my options?
Bororm replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
Neither worked for me as stated, and the splint didn't work for the OP. -
Business shouldn't trump their mission of creating a good game first and foremost, the game they started. Devoting resources to something so divergent from the original goal of the title is heading down that path. So is trying to port their game to consoles at this point. How bout they focus on getting the game they started on finished, then they can branch off and do what they want with the franchise. They aren't hurting for cash, and honestly bohemia seems to do best when they develop niche titles and don't try to appeal to the most amount of people. What's amazing to me is the amount of people who put business above all else. Money isn't everything. And if you don't think game development (or any creative process) suffers when the goal shifts towards money rather than the original vision then you are the one who is naive.

Sprained Ankle - what are my options?
Bororm replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
I had a sprained ankle the other day, from jumping off one of those two story sandbag bunkers with the netting. I tried morphine and a splint as well to no effect. I had healing status, and either due to that or simply relogging it was gone the next time I played. It seemed to have no ill effects on me while it was up, though my assumption was that maybe you'd be closer to breaking your legs with it. -
Isn't above all else the point of the game about player interactions? Seems goofy to me if they devote any serious resources to a single player thing. If it's just hosting your own server or something then whatever.

That's not necessarily what replica means. There's different types of replicas (some battle ready, some decorative, some for cutting, some for practicing etc), it also says it's a "faithful" replica. It's not unreasonable to assume it would be sharp. Replica could simply mean it's not an original design as well. I don't see why they would put in a purely decorative sword as we can't decorate anything with it. (sorry the screenshot sucks!) So any ways, I got my first real kill with it earlier. I charged up on a guy in the sandbag bunker at the nwaf and hit him a few times, then backed out (he had an sks and shot me once). I was with a friend, he maybe shot him a couple times too. Eventually the guy tried to get a position and take a shot on my friend, and I ran over and killed him with a hit to the head. He was wearing a cowboy hat. Altogether I think I hit him about 2-3 body shots and the head shot, so maybe there's hope yet!

I did a little more testing on zombies and averaged 3-4 hits to kill them. I guess 3 isn't terrible but 4 is really pushing it imo, as a comparison I think the fireaxe right now averages 2. The sword does have the benefit of extremely fast follow up swings, if you hit. If you miss you have a very large delay.

The Ammo Box a.k.a 300 round box > only 4 slots inside?
Bororm replied to hemmo's topic in General Discussion
I think containers are bugged, they don't make sense. I don't think they actually offer much protection for the contents either. They made some big inventory changes if I'm not mistaken which is why the inventory is such a mess right now, this is likely a byproduct of it. -
Check the gate houses, I find about 2 every time. You need to open your inventory tab as the items are under the floor, but as far as I can tell they are only spawning maces and swords. I haven't really had any luck finding them in the towers.

Jokes aside about the first picture, over 15 hits to kill a person is beyond absurd. Anyone have any other experience with this? Was it a fluke?

http://i.imgur.com/qsyNVL9.png (this is from the mod, numbers might not be the same) pso-1 has a built in range finder, you match the target to the curve on the left and choose the corresponding chevron. see svd in chart acog you match the target's shoulder widths and use the corresponding lines. see chart new ak scope i'd imagine you can do something with those vertical lines similar to the cz in the chart i posted above. (I don't believe that's actually what the lines are for, but it can work) This is all assuming they are actually functioning properly.

Unable to toggle weapon such as both IZH-43 Shotgun & Blaze 95 Double Rifle to fire off both rounds.
Bororm replied to TheManFunk's topic in General Discussion
Interesting. As I said I hadn't actually tested in a looong time.
