Did you get the "healing" status?
-
They had that on namaalsk and they were super lame. No thanks.

Would you support global chat being a sever option?

Radios make more sense. -
Not a monster under my bed, just saying it's something to consider. Little snowballs turn into big ones you know. You are the one who dragged it on as long as it has.

You are really underestimating how common it is in other games. I think we just have different stances on game development. IMO potential exploits should be considered when creating any mechanic. No matter how seemingly inconsequential. That doesn't seem insane to me.

I didn't say I was against having keys. In fact I said I was in favor of it: I'm pointing out issues with the systems people are proposing. Isn't that one of the points of discussion? We don't know how long it will take to break down walls. If it takes a considerable amount of time, then using a key would be preferable obviously. I'm just pointing out a scenario, one I've seen in other games with similar systems. Is it a super big deal? Not really. Should it be considered when designing a system from scratch? I think so.

I once saw Hicks pick up about 10 gas lamps. He might have 5000 hours on the game but I don't think he's really representative of your average player. To be clear, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that at all unless he's making balance decisions =P

20 vs 20 at Pavlovo Military base. Survived till the last opponent :)

Then organize it on a first person only server yourself. Obviously these people didn't mind participating in third person. Nice video btw, looks fun! -
People do this in games all the time, especially mmos where you're talking about not only a 60 dollar initial price tag but an extra subscription as well. If base security became a thing of it being vastly beneficial to just have a character logged off in the base all the time rather than risk carrying around a key I think it would become pretty common. It's not like you're going to be able to hide these camps. Getting some one's key is gonna end up being a quick drive/fly around the map to check where it goes.

I want less hud/ui not more.

The SA feels really floaty. Between the desync/sliding/lag/everything, players just don't feel solid and shooting them even less so. I'm pretty sure the mod had a sound effect for when you actually hit some one, and the blood effects were a lot more exaggerated (but better imo). I hope they can do something about it, because it does feel bad. And as some one else mentioned I also hope it doesn't end up like arma 3 though because that is even worse.

Keys would be good as long as you can make copies like you say. Of course, there's always the issue of people just making extra accounts to always have some one to let them in.

Can we please have running barefoot be a soft skill. I don't want to wear shoes and don't like being punished for it. My feet should toughen up.
-
It doesn't ruin permadeath because bases can still be raided. DayZ doesn't have permadeath any ways, they should have never called it that. It has full looting, but you respawn. This topic has been done to death. The bottom line is the stuff is still vulnerable, stashes don't fill themselves, you can't erase a player's memory so no workaround would make sense any ways, and finally, you don't need to make one if you don't want to.
-
Combination locks solve that problem. Losing your base because you died makes bases near pointless.
-
We need some sort of sheds instead of just tents for base building so that it makes at least some sense that you can secure your stuff better. If the only defense for base building is the outer wall, nothing is going to be secure at all. People will find their way in and then it's free reign, locking a tent makes no sense. And to be clear, I'm saying it's just another line of defense to lock a shed, you could still break the lock/break in. Nothing is completely safe. Just only having tents for storage is a dumb idea.

I agree. I don't get the argument for scarcity. There's no evidence of a lot of people left around, they're either zombies or more likely evacuated. I dunno about anyone else, but my house is full of food. Even if I were packing up and leaving, there's gonna be a lot left behind. People want it to be some sort of survivor man in the woods simulator. The idea that we should all subsist on wildlife which would probably run out a heck of a lot quicker than canned food in the area is more ridiculous to me.

Dunno what time morning is where Hicks is but I'm willing to bet it's later than Hawaii where I am.

Good pvp needs good pve and vis versa. They already got the pvp aspect, they need to flesh out the pve. And pve here is player vs environment and all that entails. So more crafting, better zombies (though zombies honestly should remain background noise), hostile animals, weather and all that stuff. PvP needs to carry some weight, good pve ensures that. Without the risk of pvp, pve becomes stale.

Or since it's Brian Hicks we're talking about here, next week ;) Sorry couldn't resist, but he's brought it on himself at this point.
-
Actually it is, as plenty of people in this thread have pointed out. You understand that you are literally arguing that a larger object is not easier to see than a smaller one right? I mean, I know you like to troll so I hope that's all this is for your sake haha

Common sense isn't so common.

I think you should wait for the next patch, which is likely this week. There's going to be a wipe, and things will change so you may as well wait. Unless you're really itching to play, then why not?

DayZ saw a big decline with some of the bad patches. I think the team/development hit a pretty rough patch. Most of the people I know (myself included) who were always strong supporters of the project even felt really let down by the direction things were going. I think they are getting back on track, but the damage is done for the time being. I think regardless of development, the actual launch will see a strong resurgence if nothing else. It's also not necessarily a bad thing that DayZ isn't really popular during development (although I think it could definitely be better than it is). I do think patches get delayed too often, status reports are really mediocre and there isn't enough strong leadership in the team. Look at a game like Rust that has amazing status reports and weekly updates to see what early access development really should be like. I don't buy the excuses of not having enough time, and they are working on the project instead when it comes to status reports because even the patches don't come out amazing. I'm not trying to complain here, I'm just saying that other games set a higher standard that DayZ is not living up to and I do think it affects the population. Also, dota is shit and people have bad taste =P
