Where has the military loot gone?

The tacticool people are undoubtedly server hoppers. The problem is you aren't really rewarded for hitting the north (specifically the mil bases) right now. Every time I've hit a mil base in the north, I haven't found a single rifle. Either because the spawn chance is just so low or people are getting them first. The issue is that loot respawns too irregularly to make it reliable. So there isn't a whole lot of choice except to server hop if loot is your goal (not mine personally, so I don't). I don't think you should find a lot of weapons at these bases, but I think you should have a very decent probability of finding something. And if you don't, I think it should be that you can go spend around 30 mins to an hour some where else, come back and reasonably expect new loot/a new chance. For instance, hitting the nwaf, not finding anything and going to a surrounding city then coming back. The most reliable military weapons right now are at crash sites. Which is great. But there should be a reliable, permanent place on the map that serves as the end goal in terms of where to go for weapons. The devs even acknowledge this and their design goal is for the nwaf to be that place. However, it's just not the case yet.

Where has the military loot gone?

It's still pretty much the case if you go north. I don't know where people find all their assault rifles, I've maybe found one actually spawned, but everyone and their dog has them up north. So it's still the same boring tacticool guys running around. I imagine it is simply a matter of server hopping still, something the current loot system encourages. As well, duping is still very much alive and well, so combined with stashes I'm sure soon the economy is gonna be fucked again.

Remember when one bullet killed you?

I believe that's wrong about the UMP and mp5. The UMP damage is very high, where the mp5 in my experience is fairly weak. The problem with damage is less the weapon damage and more the protection items give. I think the latter should be addressed before the former.

Remember when one bullet killed you?

Damage needs to be higher, the damage model is total shit. Other changes need to happen too, like run speed. I'd also like to see more effects/animations for being wounded, so even if you don't necessarily die you at least get fucked up.

so how good is the UMP 45 in 0.58 stable?

The UMP is OP. Hands down I'd call it the best gun currently (haven't tried an SVD, maybe that takes the cake). It reminds me of a gun from the mod, in that it has extremely low recoil and hits exactly where you're aiming it, unlike a lot of the other weapons in the SA. I think they haven't configured it honestly. In my experience it's killed in 1-4 (usually 1-2) hits on everyone I've encountered. Go find one and try it out, it just feels different than every other weapon. It's pretty ridiculous. I'm surprised people like the mp5, the recoil on it is atrocious. I guess if you're just running up and spraying people point blank it might be alright, but I've found it to be pretty awful personally.

    Giving the v3s gas

Cooking pot holds more than a water bottle, though I kinda don't think it's even twice as much so still gonna take you a while. Also, are the gas gauges broken? The trucks I've seen so far they are.

    New 3PP Camera

Spent the whole day peeking over shit just the same as always, while being slightly annoyed by the new camera. Such a pointless change and waste of time. The new crosshair in third person is totally ridiculous as well. They should just remove that entirely. My gripes about the new camera (aside from how it's a pointless change to begin with; because third person by definition means you see more than the character) are: 1) It's way too tight indoors. I often switch to first person indoors any ways, but this just feels ridiculous. If they want you to be first person indoors, force it at this point. 2) The way the camera fluctuates so much. It comes in closer and further for numerous reasons now, and seems to always be shifting just from looking around. Looking straight down for instance pulls it in super close, going indoors again shifts it, going near things etc. Even sprinting brings it in/out. It just makes you extremely aware that the camera is even there. 3) Character being off centered. Don't care for it. 4) Shifting shoulders. Now you have to tap q/e twice to lean and it just feels a bit funky. Especially since your gun doesn't change shoulders. I ended up spending a decent amount of my session using the double tapped "-" to extend my FOV to basically bring it in line with how it used to be (which I hate doing because it stretches/distorts things). Hip firing weapons felt really wonky with the off centered character and funky crosshair. I don't even like hip firing and it's something I think needs to change because it's too easy/common place, but this is not the way to fix that (no crosshair and harsher recoil when not aiming down sights would be good). This just feels weird/bad. This wasn't necessary. Third person was fine. People will adapt to the new camera (I already have) and it is just a minor annoyance with no actual gain. It's fundamentally flawed to try to "fix" something that isn't broken. The people who disliked the old camera are still going to find reasons to complain, the people who adapted to the old camera to begin with are going to adapt to the new one faster. The whiners are still going to say it's the camera's fault when it's their own. /yawnnnnn

    What is this?

Anyone have this happen before? It's the particle effect like the shot impacted on something, but it happened midair between me and this other guy. I didn't take any damage during the fight and ended up killing him. It looked like it happened when he fired, not me. I only noticed it when watching my recording in slow mo to see how badly I was spraying =P I am tempted to think one of us shot the other's gun, which can happen, but that usually results in a spark (like when you shoot metal) and this effect was also pretty far out from either of us. Shooting a player's gun also usually results in damaging their legs from what I've tested. Anyone got any ideas?

The Compass to Map Ratio: ._.

Can some one explain why things that are fixed constantly get unfixed? I'm not trying to be cute, I'm genuinely curious how this happens as I don't really know anything about programming or game development. We've seen it happen with a lot of different items/weapons, where a bug that was fixed previously comes back again. Logically it seems like something that isn't broken shouldn't be touched. My personal thoughts would be that there's multiple builds going on, and some how old code gets back in or whatever. As I said, I dunno how this stuff works so would love an explanation.

    What is this?

It was an SKS he had, I had a rak so nah. And I've shot many a shotgun and it doesn't create that effect. I think the upgraded courier bag is ugly. The guy I killed had one though =P

How is the AKM in 58?

Oh my mistake, I don't think I used it in .57.
  12. Bororm

How is the AKM in 58?

Hopefully the recoil was increased imo. The AKM didn't need any love, it was pretty much the best all around weapon.
  13. It happens during the day too I think, if you are close and stare right at the fire in first person.

    I want to believe ;)

    Regional loot?

I feel like helicopters should be reserved for the top end gear like they were in the mod. That you should be able to hit mil bases for a reliable chance at decent military weaponry. Server hopping would be less prevalent if you could actually stick around for a reasonable amount of time and at least feel like you have a chance of finding what you're looking for. That's the problem with the current loot respawn/pools. If you don't find what you're looking for you feel like there's no point because the item respawn is going to just put something on the other side of the map in all likelihood. The mod suffered from loot cycling which I don't want to see again, but I should be able to hit the nwaf, not find what I want, go to lopatino or something to do some other looting, come back and reasonably expect there to be some new stuff.
  16. Bororm

    Regional loot?

I've hit the mil bases and haven't found any military weapons. I think there should be a very decent probability of finding mil loot at the bases or else there's no real incentive to go there. The other alternative that happens is you're just encouraged to server hop once there. Loot respawn and loot groups still need a lot of work. They need to make it closer inline with the mod imo. The mod was maybe too prevalent for mil loot, but I don't want to go across the map the for nothing. And I say this as some one who doesn't even like using the assault rifles. It's just there needs to be incentive, because right now I might as well loot the cars in Cherno and still DM.

Why is the amount I can look up limited?

I haven't tested it but this potentially reintroduces the issue of some locations (namely castles) being near impossible to breach. In the mod you were able to sit on the stairs above the entrance and players entering simply could not look up at a sharp enough angle to do anything about it. This is likely the case again.

    Came across a player's barrel

This raises a good question, how long do placed land mines/bear traps actually last? IMO they should last a long time!

    Hunting Scope for What Gun?

Where are people finding hunting scopes this patch? Still in deer stands? I've yet to see one, I'm assuming they are just a lot more rare now?
  20. My survival experience was finding a bag of bell pepper seeds, planting them. Eating 10 of them but still being yellow hungry but now stuffed to the point of wanting to vomit because I had hydrated first. Forcing myself to throw up, so I could start eating over. Eating another 12+ bell peppers (I am not exaggerating) to get to non hungry. Then just going and looting cars instead. Food/hunger is ridiculous in terms of how fast you get hungry vs how much you have to eat.

    New 3PP Camera

He had a chance, he could have peeked the windows before entering.

    New 3PP Camera

Yeah this. Like the screenshot I posted of the reload, or even aiming in third person. Basically you are now pointing your camera at things instead of your character, because they offset the camera but the character doesn't match. So what your camera is focused on is no longer what your character is focused on. I think this is one of my main gripes, as it ends up with a big disconnected feeling from the character.

    New 3PP Camera

Here's some screenshots to demonstrate the wonkiness with the new camera. Reloading with this perspective ends up having your character essentially facing sideways into your camera: To clarify, I'm looking straight ahead, I haven't turned my camera/character. This is just the angle your camera ends up at as you reload. Besides just looking weird, it's got some interesting implications for actual fighting if you end up essentially facing sideways to what you were just looking at. Here's the third person crosshairs I mentioned: Your weapon's crosshair is obviously free floating from the center as it should be, however due to the offset camera it ends up being no where near the center any more which just feels bad. In this screenshot it's still fairly close, but I've had it drift extremely far to either side. Basically, the camera has been offset, but the character's point of aim wasn't adjusted to match.

    Can't tear clothes for rags

The only nice part about the change is you get more bandages out of it. A friend suggested that it should be you get less bandages for tearing it without a knife, and I kinda like that idea even if it doesn't really make sense.
  25. Don't bother in .58, there's pretty much nothing there at all.
