They're extremely valuable for scouting and transport. Just because it doesn't have guns doesn't mean it's not incredibly useful for pvp, and as such a threat. Besides, we're supposed to get the ability to shoot from vehicles and this one's been shown to have skids. It's likely you'll be able to do just that, though it will basically be a death wish.

It was easy to take down helicopters in the mod with regular weapons. Shooting out pilots is fairly easy, and damaging rotors with 7.62 was also easy. I hope they don't add stingers, that would make it too trivial. It won't be an issue.

Great stories bro, but you don't sweat in DayZ so it's completely irrelevant. Yes I was warming in the t shirt from running, the point is I don't get a warming message from running in a check shirt. It means that the check shirt is providing less warmth than a t shirt in this game, under the same conditions. Those quotes are comical because it's not the cotton it's the conditions. It's exaggerated to ridiculousness. You might as well be saying "water kills!" I mean hopefully lumberjacks never sweat or they'd be dropping like flies presumably.

TwitchCon - DayZ (Tisy Mil Base, Little Bird, Beards)
Bororm replied to Yuval's topic in General Discussion
Little disappointed that it wont be take on helicopters levels of simulation for flying. I think it would be so cool to have it that complex, where you gotta toggle a bunch of switches and stuff and actually know what you're doing. Imagine trying to take off in a fight like that. Hopefully it's more involved than the mod at least. That was too overly simplistic. I want to be impressed when I see a helicopter flying, that it's somebody who knows what they are doing. Good pilot or not. Eventually everyone figures out how to fly any ways if they play long enough. -
My group has found one since they've been implemented. We've maybe seen/heard a handful if that. Some people claim they've found a lot but they must be really dedicated. They are very rare.

Come the fuck on, I'm supposed to freeze to death from sweating in chernarus? I should not die from wearing a shirt and sprinting around the countryside in fair weather, no that doesn't make sense. And if you reread what I wrote, it stopped raining and my clothes all dried out. And was standing on a fire, with hot cans in my pockets. And again, right after I died and respawned I was in a t-shirt and "warming up" from running. A t-shirt is not warmer than a long sleeve shirt. Are we living in the arctic? This is outright comical.

Exactly, the more options the better. If you find an item impractical/useless it doesn't mean everyone does. The nice part is if you don't like it, you don't have to make it. An argument about the way things render in is valid, but that wasn't the tone of your original post at all. Not to mention you lumped in dresses with ghillies. How is female clothing pointless? If anything the game needs more of it. The apocalypse hits and suddenly there's no women's clothing and everyone forgot how to make improvised camouflage? Right...

Was wearing a check shirt and got the shakes from being cold, just running around in regular weather. Made a fire but it wouldn't heat me up. Then later it rained, got hypothermic, made another fire, heated objects and put them in my bags, tried relogging, taking off shoes etc etc. died. The rain had already stopped and my clothes were completely dry. Check shirts are fucking pointless this patch. I warm up wearing a T shirt but get cold in a check shirt. Really stupid.

The loot system currently encourages you to just server hop if you want to gear up on the coast. You're best off joining a low pop server, hitting all the cars in cherno, and then switching over. Otherwise the coastal towns are cleared out because loot respawns too slowly. Likewise, the "end game" kind of gear is the same. If you want assault rifles and corresponding mags, you can trek across the map to a mil base. On a high pop server chances are you're going to run into squads there, which is fine and fun, they're hot spots. However, since the loot system is as it is, if you brave the base itself you're likely to just find boots and hats that no one has bothered to move so they don't cycle. If you're extremely lucky you'll find an assault rifle, but likely not the corresponding mag/ammo. So the option is to either come back hours later, hoping some one else cycled the loot for you or to server hop. And even more so, server hop to a server where you're the only one on it and cycle it yourself. Hopefully this is resolved when loot doesn't need to be interacted with for it to respawn, so there's a more constant turn over of items. Finding food and regular gear isn't that big of a deal if you get off the coast to inland towns. It's just that the game is forcing you to move off the coast which is a shitty way of creating traffic imo. The mod did a much better job of providing motivation without straight up forcing movement. It sounds like that's what they are striving to replicate though, so hopefully it gets there.

How does it feel to know that your game is years behind arma 3 exile
Bororm replied to TDFBuster's topic in General Discussion
can you take your shoes off in arma 3 yet? no? ok. it may seem like a joke but if you use your brain that seemingly simple example shows how any mod for arma 2 or 3 is never going to be as good as the standalone. there's a reason they redid everything from scratch. -
I haven't seen a lot of discussion on this which is interesting since people often comment a lot about other things related to realism, or making the game a bit more hardcore. The recent changes to the floating crosshair are a big deviation from minimal hud/"hardcore"/realism goals of the game imo. It went from the single dot, which was supposed to be in game only as an indicator to make it easier to target items in the world (the devs stated this) and not an actual crosshair for your gun, to what we have now which is a really good indicator for aiming. It used to be that the single dot was even too much imo, and people often hip fired using only that. That said, on occasion I'd have friends complain that their shots weren't lining up with it and I'd have to remind them it's not actually supposed to be for aiming. This new crosshair is meant for aiming, and it does a really fucking good job of it honestly. Often I end up just using it to aim rather than looking down my sights, and much like in the mod and arma in general, it is a lot easier to control recoil as well as keep clearer vision on what's going on without having all your muzzle flash in your face. I don't really understand this direction they've taken. I want to see hip firing discouraged, not encouraged. Fights are too run and gun, fast paced already. I'd like at the very least to see it as a server option again like it is in arma/the mod. While I admittedly often use it, I do it because it's there, and I'd prefer to play without it.

This is still driving me nuts because pvp is devolving even more so into sprinting straight up to people to spray them down. Especially in any fight involving an automatic vs anything else. See a guy with a mosin or sks or any other low capacity semi auto/bolt? your best bet is to just zig zag straight up and spray. With the abundance of assault rifles and ammo that's all the pvp scene is any more. It's super dull.
-
Server restarts fix the gas tanks and also refill them. Otherwise no way to repair at the moment as far as I know.
-
I don't see a lot of point in making ammo really rare, because the rest of the gameplay is rather dull. There's room for improvement of course, but Hicks said in an interview some where they are pretty much done messing with melee. So what's the result going to be? People who server hop/have the most time are going to still have a lot of ammo (not to mention dupers) and everyone else will just be running around wacking each other with crappy melee mechanics. I don't mind seeing less ammo for the assault rifles, but I feel like ammo being rarer than say the current magnum ammo would just be bad. People like to talk about how it shouldn't be a pvp game, but I think that's naive and missing what makes the game popular. Instead of diminishing pvp, the other aspects of the game should be brought up to be equally enticing. The pvp aspect is there, it needs the pve, that doesn't mean just making pvp a pain.

I hope you're right but the quote doesn't read like that to me: I'd love to see animations implemented for reloading mags too, it's pretty silly that it's instant.

pornos =P i'm sure they'd work just as well as they do in metal gear solid

Christopher Torchia (Bohemia Interactive Studio) - DayZ: Surviving Success

I agree with this. I think the video is pretty nice for a candid view of the difficulties they faced. I'm sure it wasn't restricted to just the art team. I don't think the devs are necessary shy about sharing that there are/were inner problems but I don't think we've really gotten such a clear picture painted to us before. It was pretty obvious at points something was going on with the team. -
New weapon mechanics - 23rd of Sept Dev blog
Bororm replied to preacherlr's topic in General Discussion
As I mentioned in the status report thread, it all sounds awesome except the part about being able to quickly reload/chamber loose rounds off the hotbar. I think manually reloading certain weapons adds a whole lot to the experience, and I'd rather see combat slowed down not sped up. As some one who routinely uses such weapons, I really enjoy having to arrange my inventory for convenience as well as the added tension from reloading during a fight. I think it adds a bit of player skill/involvement, single button presses negates all of that. I still wanna see the original idea of having no ammo counts on mags as well, so you have to manually check them. Really love the other stuff though. -
Could you clarify what you would mean by using your hands to reload in this case, since the gun is already in your hands? I completely disagree about it being un-immersive/natural/interactive. I think dragging is a great mechanic that represents the process of moving an item in your inventory at least. I agree with having to put things in your hands to do a lot of processes, especially crafting. I think the two compliment each other. Reloading being the current best example, but for instance I wouldn't mind seeing you having to hold a knife then dragging the clothes to it to cut them. Or to open cans etc. I just don't want things in the game to be simple button presses, because things get too gamey. It sounds like you're suggesting something else though so I'm interested. I mean unless they drastically speed up reload times with things like snap loaders and stripper clips, they are going to be obsolete if you can just hit a button to reload guns like the double barrel, revolver. And even if they do speed up the times, I think a large part of the novelty of finding those speed loaders is going to be gone. It won't be as big of an upgrade. Maybe another item should be introduced like a bandolier that serves that function, of being able to go on the hotbar and loaded with loose ammo. The game needs to slow down, not speed up. It should force decisions. This simplifies/makes things easier.
-
The new firearm stuff sounds awesome. I only have one comment/complaint on it. I would really rather not see loose ammo be able to be hotbarred/quick reloaded. Dragging ammo to reload particular weapons, or when you don't have a mag, is one of the best parts of the game imo. It adds that extra stress level, and a bit of player skill, to the process as well as potentially slowing things down at least a little. I really hope they can go back on that decision. The mags having to be hotbarred is actually a cooler step in the right direction instead of just hitting R, since you'll have to organize your bars better. Just the loose ammo being able to quickly reload is going to take away from the experience of using those weapons that require it imo

Did I do something wrong? Sniping in the Airfield
Bororm replied to FrigginTommyNoble's topic in General Discussion
it's just a video game do whatever you feel like doing (as long as it's not cheating of course), don't care about other people's opinions/motivations. play for yourself and what you feel is fun. there is no wrong and right, it's just a game. -
Been away for 6 months, and have some questions about bullet penetration
Bororm replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
regular pine leafs haven't been bullet proof since very early in the mod. barracks windows are still bullet proof. if you're talking about player tents, as i recall they don't stop bullets. and they don't even render in past a certain distance. if you're talking about the tents on the map they have always been penetrable. -

Bororm replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
what about trees? bullets didn't penetrate small pines at one point, i dunno if that was fixed yet or not. that has less to do with how penetration functions and more to do with those pines likely being a misclassified object.
