Every 2 weeks now. I guess at least they learned their limits, though I predict the reports will still be late =P This is a nice report though. The car stuff looks rad, but I hope the damage values are pretty high. Or else our cars are just going to fall apart from a single drum/coupled mag. I'm not a big fan of the Cherno changes personally. I don't think anyone much cares for the apartments, and they've added more. They've also moved around all the iconic buildings to new positions (yellow/blue, the hotel etc). Maybe I'm just being sentimental, but I feel like Cherno is iconic to DayZ and while it could use a little change, something less drastic would be preferred.

That doesn't really change anything though, because you can easily accomplish that with the compass in the SA if you're that attuned to degrees.

They need to disconnect motion blur from post processing like it was in the mod. I turn off post processing too, because I can't stand motion blur in any game. As a result, I don't get blurry vision from low health/sickness etc, which is pretty lame and honestly makes me feel like a bit of a scumbag even if it's not intentional.

I have a buddy who just started DayZ, brand new. He's been using the compass. It's not really useful for veteran players compared to the one in the mod (which ended up more for calling out specific enemy locations), but for strictly navigational purposes it serves the purpose. I'm not sure how things go in the actual military, but I do kinda doubt people are constantly pulling out their compass to say the enemy is at X degrees specifically irl.
-
They've already said they are going to address that very thing so it's not possible. No specifics on it yet though.

I think it's like every other mechanic in the game thus far where they got in the very basic idea and then stop touching it. Which becomes frustrating after a while when certain clothing items become completely pointless. I've complained a lot about how I can't wear check shirts any more because you get cold just running around, those were my favorite and were already at a huge disadvantage because of the lack of inventory. I get that it's alpha still but like you say, it would be nice if they'd tweak it just a little at least.

It's funny that ragdolls were some big deal that they wanted to implement, that they're popular in games to begin with. I'm not much of a fan of them in any game, and while for the most part they are a lot less ridiculous in DayZ SA than many other games, they still create more issues than benefits. I personally feel ragdolls never look right. Most games end up with bodies in weird pretzel positions, clipping issues abound. They also never follow realistic physics, and end up creating something that feels incredibly "floaty" or insubstantial. In arma 2, when you killed some one it felt "solid" for lack of a better term. It felt like you were hitting a physical object. The big problems arise when things like bodies sliding happens. I'll admit this thread is sparked because I killed a guy today, who slid under a tree. I chopped down the tree and was still unable to loot him. This happens a lot. The fact that bodies slide down hills like slip and slides is ridiculous. The way bodies go completely rigid with their glasses and guns popping off (while certainly comical) before crumpling is ridiculous. Because ragdolls are primarily clientside, another issue is bodies being in different locations for different people. As well as the actual body being in one place server side, and another on your client, resulting in the inability to loot some bodies on slopes. Often you access their inventory down a hill, but because their body server side is up the hill, you are unable to remove gear from it, as you are too far away. (some times if you move around a bit you can get close enough to the source, but not always) I just think ragdolls hardly offer anything and more often than not ruin any immersion much more so than canned animations. Of course they are here to stay I'm sure, but I hope we see improvements.

Day Z as it should be : The Earth Abides
Bororm replied to Whyherro123's topic in General Discussion
One of the big reasons pvp is attractive in DayZ is because there is still consequence for death, regardless of whether some people think it's easy or not. I'm not attached to my gear, and I usually use "civilian" weapons, but it still takes me any where from 15-30+ minutes to gear up and I'd reckon it's at least that if not more for most people. Then all the other time investments that go into the game, between travelling, getting a good spawn, meeting with friends, and yes even surviving the pve elements. All of it, regardless of how much effort you want to put into it, still means some one is going to lose something. It's a bit funny because the game you seem to want to play could be represented by removing "other guy" from the card. And as boring as the one you suggest for me sounds, that sounds doubly so. -
It sucks but like Martmital says, play a private shard. It would be nice if they'd host some official servers as private servers though.

They could also stand to make the military clothing just more rare.

Except I would. Or else I would just get near the guy and do it, and use it to train the zombies on them. -

The problem is you think people pvp for a reason. I didn't waste my bullet because my purpose in playing the game is to try to kill other players. Even if that player gets away, or doesn't have what I want, that doesn't matter to me. I don't kill other players for their loot, I do it for fun. And I'm always going to find a way to do that, and the more tedious you make the game the more ways I'm going to find to exploit that tedium in my favor to kill other players. As long as pvp is allowed people are going to find the easiest way to do it. And that's the mindset of a lot of people who play DayZ. That is what makes the game popular to begin with. And before anyone tries to tell me otherwise, do you think those roving groups of 3-4 decked out players in every coastal city on every populated server are there killing people for loot or some higher purpose? That's maybe true when you're new, but you quickly learn to play under the assumption that you're pretty much always under some one's crosshairs. Or at least, you learn where it's mostly to happen and from where. It doesn't level the playing field, it just changes the tactics. You're still going to have some guy hiding around a corner with a fireaxe now instead of an SMG, waiting to bop you over the head when you go to pick your apples or whatever. -
Day Z as it should be : The Earth Abides

My point is that people keep saying with lower ammo or food or whatever people will be less likely to shoot/kill each other. It's not the case, people will always find the easiest means to kill each other and do it. The idea of making ammo rare so you have to "make a decision on whether to shoot a player or not" is naive. If I have bullets, and I see another player, even if I have 1 bullet, I'm gonna shoot it at him. Why wouldn't I? -

Even without ammo people will just melee each other. And it will be even more boring honestly, because as many faults as the shooting has the melee system is far worse and Hicks has said they're pretty much done touching it. -

Yeah Rust is even more pvp focused than DayZ honestly. -
Does it have a glow plug? Did you "attach" them rather than put them in the inventory (drag to the grey bar)? The gas tank is on the passenger side btw. The only way you're going to know if its damaged is if you can start the truck or not.

The biggest mistake of .55 was even the devs saying there wasn't a problem. Eventually they admitted they were wrong. But assuming people were crying wolf because they simply couldn't handle it, while the loot system was seriously messed up, was a pretty shitty thing to do.

This guy's video is a good example of why something needs to happen https://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/229302-spotted/ I think you can skip most of the beginning, about halfway through his friend is crawling up on the sniper. For those two, they are in grass and hard to spot each other to an extent. For him, 600m away, they're both completely exposed. His trees are also turned down. The result being that far hillside is extremely barren. At the end he goes over there and you can see the difference.

The problem is likely less turnover of loot on private shards. Hopefully when items despawn without player interaction the loot situation will be better all around.

Day Z as it should be : The Earth Abides
Bororm replied to Whyherro123's topic in General Discussion
Schlake is not wrong. Look at the team making DayZ, look at the development so far, look at the camo pants and guns announced every week. People seem to pick extreme sides, either you have to be starving and growing crops and making fires with sticks or you are playing CoD. DayZ is always going to lean heavier on the pvp, that's what made the game and that's what the developers know. It doesn't mean there isn't room for farming, and crop failure and all that stuff, but it is never going to be the main focus and shouldn't be. It's too late for that, that's a different game. The game the OP describes is not what DayZ "should be" because that's never what DayZ was meant to be. That's a different game. A PvE focused survival game is a different game. DayZ is and always will be a pvp focused survival game. The pve aspect will shape up and compliment the pvp, but pvp will always remain the real draw. -
I'm not sure that's entirely correct. It takes 30 minutes for items to despawn, but that's a separate timer than new loot spawning. The server checks every 5 seconds if an item is able to spawn in the location or not. If you remove an item, 5 seconds later a new item potentially respawns. Again I think the part where things get tricky is the server only allows X amount of item on the server at a time, and items seem to spawn in waves by type. So you might remove boots from a tent to have a ump mag spawn, or you might remove boots from a tent but the server says it's time to spawn more boots. In which case yeah, it has to wait for the item to despawn. This seems to be how it works in any case, if some one has a more in depth answer I'm all ears. But my experience is that some times you remove an item, and another spawns. And then you remove that item, and another spawns. I've had 3-4 UMP mags spawn in a row before in mil tents, and I've had 3-4 pairs of binocs spawn in deer stands. It definitely isn't always 30 minutes between, though eventually the timer does seem to catch up and things potentially take a while.

[Proper Names 101] Quonset Hut vs Officer Tent
Bororm replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
As long as you are consistent within your own group it doesn't matter what you call anything. Also, "quonset" as a word sounds stupid so I'm not saying it =P
