They removed it from the improvised knife which I think was a stupid move. I mean, generally its nearly as quick or quicker to find something to jump off than roll the dice on finding stones any ways. And it doesn't make sense that you can kill yourself with a pen but not a stone knife. There's a variety of other melee weapons you still can't suicide with either that you really should, like even the axe I believe. Or a pointy stick for that matter. Drowning is such a huge mess but hopefully it is actually consistent at some point. I don't think you should spawn with something, but there's no reason the stone knife shouldn't work. In fact, that's one of the only design decisions I can think of in terms of items that seems to have been done strictly for "balance" and really ruins the realism factor and goes against the spirit of the game.

M4s aren't rare this patch. SVDs are a better example, they are pretty rare and you don't encounter them all that often. If RPGs were even as rare as SVDs are currently it would be fine. In the mod, the rocket launchers were incredibly rare. I think I only ever found 1 or 2 in all my time playing, and was never on the receiving end of one. Duping aside, they can very well make things rare. Their CLE has even more potential for that than the mod did, since it can limit the amount globally. I personally hope they're not all that rare, but have a big drawback. Like taking up the backpack slot.
-
It's a bit rarer than some other types, but its out there. I suppose it's probably on par with magnum ammo right now, which can be a bit of a pain to find if that's specifically what you're looking for. Check cars, they're a good source for everything.

I'm curious because I've never done it, but how do people reverse on first person servers? working mirrors would probably be nice like arma 3?
-
Speak for yourself man.
-
They had rocket launchers in the mod, it wasn't a big deal.

Where's the just "yes" option. Why do people always make such shitty polls with terrible choices?
-
Would love to see this one answered. To add to it, why was the floating crosshair improved so much when the initial goal was stated as moving away from it, that it was only there for picking up items?
-
I was thinking of balance issues with allowing layering of clothing with pockets, but then again maybe it would decrease dependence on backpacks. With a weight system it would probably be less of an issue too. So layering shirts would be nice, provided they aren't all still acting like bullet proof vests too =P

I don't think .58 specifically is driving people away, people are just bored because it's taking so long for .59. Because we've all been playing the same game for months if not years. That's just a reality of early access at this point, not this patch specifically which is actually a pretty good patch.

I mean it's closer to that than a pve game like l4d or resident evil. It's a sandbox so you can play how you like, but pvp is the most fleshed out portion of the game and the driving focal point. I don't understand how so many people are rebellious against this when anyone who's played for any period of time should come to this same conclusion. There's a ton of dayz clones coming out almost literally daily, so if that's not what you're after I'm sure something will come up.
-
The thing is that's not what the game was from the outset, so getting upset because it's not something it never was is a bit ridiculous. The game was always pvp focused, from the start. Yes it has zombies, but they are background noise to drive the player. They're important, but to say DayZ is about zombies is untrue and always has been. Anyone who's played it knows that, even when zombies have been at their "best" in various incarnations, it still hasn't been about them. The game is going into beta in a few months, there is not going to be a drastic change to gameplay to suddenly make it about fighting zombies. People need to stop being so naive and recognize DayZ for what it is, who the studio is behind it, and what engine it's based on. Wake up!
-
Man what youtube videos are you watching where zombies are the focus? Zombies were never the focus of DayZ, anyone spreading that rumor is misleading. Even the devs, including Rocket, have said zombies are not and never will be the main threat.

I think people are being a bit unfair, though I do disagree it is hard to find food/weapons. Automatics are still incredibly abundant and food isn't that big of a deal. I think there is an underlying issue here that people have ignored. You said your clan got their own server, I believe that's likely the problem. Is it a private server and is the population decent? Currently loot will not respawn unless interacted with. It's a very real possibility that if your server isn't active enough, your loot just isn't turning over and as a result you think it is difficult to find stuff because new stuff isn't actually respawning. Or maybe you're bad at the game, who knows =P

"Understanding Realism in Computer Games through Phenomenology" (DayZ discussion).

I think an interesting question the perspective thing raises is: When you imagine yourself doing something, do you always solely imagine yourself doing that from your own perspective or do you often imagine yourself placed in the scenario? Personally, I do a bit of both and I'd say more often than not the latter. I don't imagine everything I want to do/have done from my own perspective but often imagine myself into a scenario. As this relates back to camera perspective, I personally have no problem feeling immersed with a non first person camera. Some of the games I've felt most immersed in were even isometric (UO for an example, some RPGs etc). I wonder if the way people often perceive themselves IRL in their own heads has any influence on their level of immersion in games. -
You can't just blame it on player connection, because that should be taken into account when designing their game. I can't think of any other multiplayer FPS I've played where characters fully clip through structures just because they are lagging. As others have said it's the way arma is designed and how it calculates player position. This is also why intentional/unintentional wall clipping is possible. My character shouldn't continue to move when I lag out, and definitely shouldn't continue to move ignoring all obstacles. I think anyone who's played enough has had situations where you end up inside a building because your character continued to run after you DCed. That shouldn't happen, that's shitty design. Some one in the status report thread said other games handle it by freezing the client screen when you lag. I don't know enough about the technical aspects as to what the proper solution is, but I haven't played any other games with this problem. So no, you can't just say it's a problem of player connection like it's people's fault they are going to have high pings. That's as bad as Red Orchestra 2's server browser crashing some routers when it launched and them saying "well you should have a better router." Absurd.

You realize the SA isn't released yet right?

Dear Brian Hicks, Please implement a % chance to pull a full chicken out of chicken coups. Sincerely, Bororm
-
Not only that, but you can shoot those people. Especially in arma as mentioned, guys going up towers and warping through the walls and just plinking them off. Really shitty for everyone. Hicks has talked a lot about desync and all that in the last few months, so hopefully some improvements get made. I don't think they'll ever really be rid of it though.
-
I haven't tested it in ages but my experience way back when I did was the shots consistently being several inches if not more apart. Gews's info that it's based on frame rate makes sense. I personally think the double fire mode on both the blaze and the double barrel shotgun are bad ideas but I'm sure there's plenty of instances when people used them point blank to great effect. I'd rather just click twice though.

I think I read some where that during the Falkland islands war the British were swapping out their semi auto FN-FALs for the Argentinian full auto ones when they could. I think there's something to be said for volume of fire, regardless of accuracy. Of course, when it comes to DayZ, it's probably a matter of just sprinting up to some one and hip fire spraying them like every other gun. Considering winchestor ammo is not terribly hard to come by, I'd say if the FAL is full auto and not totally rare it is definitely going to be the go to OP weapon. So I am also in the boat that really hopes it isn't full auto, though if the model is already that way I suppose it's likely it is. Still, hopefully enough changes happen to actual gameplay to diminish that technique of just spraying people close up. It's one thing to round a corner and do that, but when it's the go to pvp tactic things get really dull.
-
Oooh. Nice kills, that's impressive to manage to hit guys that many times.
-
How many shots did it take to kill them?
-
You forgot pick feathers for 30 minutes. The mechanic for searching for feathers or picking apples etc is really dull. edit: Oops never mind, I didn't realize you can just shoot sharpened sticks. Does anyone know the damage difference between the arrow types? I've been using the bow lately for kicks, but it's quite impractical. You need to release when the bow shifts back to the left. It will go: right right left. Alternatively there's a sweet spot when you draw it, right before it's fully drawn, where you can be very accurate. I suggest aiming using the floating crosshair, while in first person (so don't right click to aim down "sights"). Managed this the other day: That said, I still missed a guy about 15m away who was relatively still. Also, aiming while you haven't been sprinting is doable, but when you get the sway from running around on top of it, the thing becomes a mess. Hopefully the changes end up cool, and that the recurve bow will be rad.

I don't know why they fucked up the hospital loot so much. At the start of the patch it was a bit bad in that it was all salines and start kits. Now they did the complete opposite and its pretty much all clothes.
