Amount of Hacking Rises
Graz (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Had a hacker on my Server when it was 6/40 :( @OP I'm sure that kid wasn't laughing, you were point blank and he couldn't even finish the job. On top of that he had to use body shots after you were unconscious because he wasn't able to line up your head properly! I'm starting to see why people resort to hacks, imagine that turd trying to survive in an 800m range firefight. Pity it's so hard to find out who the walking bag of free loot is :( -
Thank you for sending that through. From trolling hacking forums, I'm %90 sure when you spawn a M14A you also get G3 Ammo. That would explain what's in your logs. I'll be PMing you for those IDs. Did you make a report from this? Thanks again for getting that out to everyone, it's a pity this thread got so derailed before you produced your information

Private Servers okay ?
Graz (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Finding a good admin can be hard, you might be on a server a few days before you find out he's a shmuck :S I think a global ban list that is a bit more robust would server a similar purpose. -
Private Servers okay ?
Graz (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I like the idea, but I don't know if it's worth doing. Hosting a server is already quite costly, I imagine a lot of servers would shut down if they had to host their own hive too. It's still a cool idea to keep ahold of :) -
[Q] Can we lock our server for testing?
Graz (DayZ) replied to n4ndoz's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Locking server exploiting is mainly for loot farming, using vehicles to get around unopposed and to a small degree ghosting. None of this can be done when you stop your server. Vilayer seems to be very fair, so I would just explain the situation if anything comes of it. However I doubt they will have problems with you turning your server off for a time while you get your bearings -
Server admins stealing GUIDs for spoofing
Graz (DayZ) replied to dayzdeadmeat's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
This is incorrect, the term everyone seems to be skirting around is "Point of Sale". It's a pretty common legal coin and it widely used in fair trading. If there was no DayZ, many people would never have bought Arma II OA. Don't hide behind the free status of the mod, that's a privilege reserved for the DayZ development team, seeing as they are the only people really doing the something for nothing approach currently. Dayz servers are not provided by the Dayz team, so many people are paying for you to play DayZ. This point was brought up already, however. Although you're incorrect, I agree. Rocket doesn't owe admins/players anything, BIS does. GUID is also used in Arma II and Battle eye also is tasked with correcting problems like this. Perhaps this thread would be better suited if it was posted their way. @Imperator: I'm inclined to agree. It's a good idea to consider that DayZ related ARMA II OA sales would be a decent source of revenue, which is why battle eye is under the whip to crack down on these issues. While the true purpose of ARMA II doesn't encompass this kind of issue, they sold it as a game, this is an ARMA II issue and it's common in gaming. I'm sure hacking in Arma II was present, it was just not as rampant and when your budy is walking around decked out like a mofo, you tend to not look a gift horse in the mouth. -
US1169 ADMIN ABUSE RESETTING SERVER
Graz (DayZ) replied to toxin232323's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Toxin, Could you repost this on Server - General? It would be better suited there. -
I like the reconstruction :) Good flank btw, using the decline to approach undetected. A completely off topic question, you said you had 7 but I don't see anyone covering your sniper, did you leave him/her undefended? Sniper rifles are pretty valuable, we like to have someone with ours so if worst comes to worst, we can loot the rifle and give it back to him. Sucks that admins do this, considering they are already dead there really isn't any point in kicking you. While it's most likely admin abuse, you weren't banned or anything like that so this thread might not gain any traction :( They can claim a variety of reasons that are hard to disprove for a kick. My suggestion: You know that they are bandits just picking off easy prey along the coast, go back to the server when they are on and get some sweet, sweet vengeance. While most people who snipe new players suck and may not provide much challenge, at least you'll wrack up some bandit kills.

Banned from US 750 without a reason - Admin abuse!
Graz (DayZ) replied to SonnyBlack's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I would move everything off that server and flee. This host is appalling, even by internet standards >_< You've lost the cars, so there's nothing keeping you there. -
[Q] Can we lock our server for testing?
Graz (DayZ) replied to n4ndoz's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
He is correct, the tough stance on locking servers is most likely going to stay for a while. It's the downside to this whole hive scenario. A good move is to use your Rcon to send a message letting players know your shutting down the server Rcon ===> "-1 GTFO_Server_is_going_down_in_5_minutes" something along those lines. People tend to take it personally when a server goes down unannounced, make sure you and most of your clan is out of the game and hasn't died recently to dodge the 'admin abuse' threads. I usually give a 10 and 5 minute warning, anyone who logs in past the 5 minutes isn't going to lose a lot of progress if it doesn't save. If your super stressed about it, put in your MTOD that the server will be restarting frequently. Vilayer has a pretty user friendly interface for that, I think it's in the server config section. If you want something a little more technical, PM the guys from Vilayer. -
Alpha, Beta and newly released games often have connection issues. Last week I was shot at, pulled back, sprinted down the tree line and killed my attacker. It was commented in direct that I was 'ghosting'. Having one person with me was the only way I was to figure out what happened. I de-synched while he was watching me, appearing to dc. He (reasonably) assumed that I logged, ghosted and then killed him. He was wrong, but we all assume that someone combat logs when this happens, because a lot of the time they do. I did nothing wrong, I was unaware that I was even having synch issues until I was half way down the tree line. Had my friend not seen me pop in and out on his screen, we never would've figured out what he was talking about. So as a server admin, you see a player vanish, reappear in a more advantageous spot and he/she kills you. You would ban, correct? Narrow minded assumptions are far different to 'blatantly obvious' @ John: I agree on the development responses. While you might support the admin, combat logging WILL be fixed, why bother with being a cowboy and banning someone when you have no proof, risk blacklisting and lets face it, gain nothing. You have little to no shot at running into the same combat logger twice in a row, let alone get another crack at them. All banning gung-ho does is stir the pot and, at worst, encourage people resort to hacks and nuke your server to get back at you.

Your statement is on a tangent and doesn't contribute to the thread, you also quoted my points, yet didn't answer the first line. I'll respond anyway: You should play with your clan-mates on your server, but branch out and play on other servers too. Someone with your gaming experience would attest to how much a game can vary over regions. Happy to talk semantics with you, but we really should stay on topic. The point I wanted to make; There was a ban issued, but not for the reason a ban should be given out
-
It's on the same page as hacking. Both are to get you loot against the game intentions, both have policies put against it. @OP It's odd that you would announce this on the thread yet withhold your image. Why do one and not the other? I guarantee your bridge is burnt
-
Zombie bob was near flawless in answering this. He skirted around a point that I would like to make. The only certainty is that there was a ban given out, I understand your position and why you have done it. It's a horrible experience and I can see why you stretched and found a way to convince yourself that banning was the right call. However, do you feel really think this was the best move? You can quite easily lift the ban and you will find that this matter will evaporate. @AADiC You have to admit that it is very tempting to issue bans out of emotional reasons. With several thousand servers, you have to admit that the chance of this occurring often is pretty reasonable? While you might be above the threshold, it is still a good idea to play on other servers, there's no point in only playing on one, there's plenty of tents to pillage on the other servers too.

Looking for A server host to help me out.
Graz (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
The scripts.log file in the battle eye part contains some useful information. There doesn't seem to be a counter to a battle-eye bypass thought. I guess there's not much you can do but watch what a suspected hacker interacts with. -
While combat logging isn't worthy of a ban (it will get fixed at some point in the development cycle), it would be great to see your review process for the bans. What breach did these players commit? Who issued the ban? What sort of ban was issued? Some kind of reasonable proof would be fantastic. I'm sure you can take 10 minutes out of your day to put this whole topic to rest. Thanks in Advance.

US 1046 - Admins kicking to protect their vehicles
Graz (DayZ) replied to Garful's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
You are an admin, you are in a position of power and people have every right to accuse you have being abusive. It's your responsibility as an admin to GIVE THEM NO REASON to say you are an abusive admin, even if they were hacking, alt+F4ing and causing problems. You however, seem to have no evidence, circumstantial or otherwise. In this case it seems you have fallen under what people think an "abusive admin" is. You banned multiple players based on opinions, attempted to counter after their post with a hacking claim of your own and have made no attempt to rectify the situation. You also used offensive language and gave [HF] every reason to create this thread Being involved in many administration issues, I understand your frustration. You have the ability to 'have the last laugh' and when people get under your skin, it's always tempting. You can't deny that what you've done is at best, unreasonable, at worst, a complete abuse of power. Also the attitude that "this is right until a developer personally says it's wrong" is a cheap way of saying that "What I am doing is wrong and I know it" Use your conflict management and be a man. Lift the ban, hand out apologies for being trigger happy and then encourage them back onto your server. If all goes well, you'll get the opportunity to teabag their corpse. -
Looking for A server host to help me out.
Graz (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I'm in the same boat Interex. I really enjoy this game and hosted a server, mainly so my friends had a place to come into and I like the idea of not being subjected to admin shadyness. Someone who has no ability to really read code is very vulnerable to hackers and can't report any bugs properly. That issue aside, I'm am essentially unusable to a developer as I'm unable to provide them with the correct information. It's frustrating to not be able to contribute to the game in that way. Is there any way I can get a general idea of what code means? I'll do an example!! Hacker comes into server spawns UAZ, guns and ammo hacker gets into UAZ drives to somewhere, gets out, commits mayhem Hacker saves his UAZ and logs out. What .log file should I be looking at and what should I be looking for? I was told that I can see where and when someone picks something up (like a spawned gun) and where/when someone saves a vehicle (like a spawned heli). ASFAIK spawned items now are removed on reset, is that the case? ANY help at all would be appreciated
