blockhead (DayZ) replied to ErwinRumble's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting

im not too familiar with ati's but there's a setting somewhere in the CCC to set vertical refresh to be always on. Not sure how ti get to the setting. also, are you running in windowed or fullscreen? im sure i read somewhere that the M series cards are problematic in windowed mode.

does it go back to the server list with 'waiting for character to create' in the background? if so, try reinstalling battleye for OA -
NEEDED: Guide to "waiting server response"
blockhead (DayZ) replied to JCDenton (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
there have been a lot (some pointless) posts on this. basically, if you've got everything installed correctly then there will be times it will be hard to connect to a server. i've had a mixed experience with success, but have stuck with the following rules: 1. pick a server with a half decent ping 2. if it takes longer than a few mins, disconnect, try a different server i only have to make 3 or 4 attempts before i'll connect to a server plus it wont take long, depending on your spec and bandwidth before you find a sever that performs well for you. i have a couple of favourite servers that serve me well :) -

right click the game in steam > properties > local files then down to verify integrity of game cache it should find files that are missing/corrupt and download them if necessary

ok, there's no need to be like that riddle me this then... i have about half the spec you have and besides the odd spike, my performance has been fine. what troubleshooting have you done so far? suppose it also depends on what you consider as crumby? -

a lot of people experience varied performance and there are lots times where someone with a lower spec ends up getting better performance at the end of the day, this is an alpha which has suddenly become very popular so the servers are dealing with a lot at the moment performance can be erratic -
you tried enabling v-sync?
-
hmmm... might just be some fudged game or mod files then. in that case i'd do a complete uninstall/re-install of the game and the mod so after uninstalling, deleting any remaining folders before re-installing

you say you've done a check file through steam... but have you ran a check disk in windows?

you tried re-installing battleye?

cant even open the game
blockhead (DayZ) replied to miradosamurai's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
sorry if i'm repeating anything you've already done... all of the mod rars have been unpacked? running steam/arma as admin? turn uac off in case anything is going into virtualstore? try on a brand a new windows admin user profile? turn AV off? delete everything in %temp%? -
cant even open the game

what system/spec you running on? -
if it's "data error cyclic redundancy check", then you may have a HDD issue. Either there are some corrupt files, or the disk is corrupt. If it is that error, run a check disk asap!

Ok, got my first good chunk of gameplay last night and luckily connected to a very stable server, so the experience was virtually lag free and smooth. I... Love.... This.... Game!!! More than anything, I think it's the combination of freedom to 'do it your way' or team play and the pure survival aspect. I started out badly, pretty much attracting every zombie in a 1 mile radius and rapidly ran out of ammo and supplies. Then I found another friendly survivor who had much more adept zombie surviving skills. We stuck together and started out on a bit of an explore and ended up way up in the mountains. Along the way I quickly learned from my new survival buddy, the 'correct' way to engage zombies... ie. where possible, don't! Using crouching and cover to avoid them and gathering supplies where we could. We hadn't had much joy finding any ammo/weapons and then we parted ways after his connection bombed out.... leaving me... all alone in the mountains. This time though, I had learned from my mistakes and embarked in a mass exploration of the area, using what I had learned, dipping in and out of cover, only engaging zombies where needed. I went on for ages without seeing another sole (except zombies) and just before my session came to an end... a wooden observation point on the peak... climbed it, looked inside... AK & G17 with a pile of ammo. Honestly I have never been more satisfied to find weapons in a game. I absolutely cannot wait until I'm playing it again.

Framerate Slow on Alienware M14X
blockhead (DayZ) replied to ApeAsylum's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I haven't had any fps issues yet... the odd spike now and then, but nothing serious. DayZ seems to be one of those odd ones where people can have a really good spec, but then someone with a lower spec will get better results. My spec is ok, but nothing amazing and I get great performance in DayZ and haven't even needed to lower the settings at all.
