IF this was an actual game...

    - Game purchase with Monthly fee I don't look to WOW as a model to emulate. Instead I look to EVE Online. Eve Online follows the pay to play Monthly model yet retains it's 'hardcore', survivalist, sandbox style roots. The game's learning curve is very steep and unforgiving, as is DayZ. WOW on the other hand is a joke. - Studio developed with extensive Community input. As much as I admire the current openess of the game, I think the game requires the resources of a full fledged studio to give it the justice it deserves. Developer side servers will also go a long way in alleviating the rampant hacking that is currently plaguing the game. It won't be perfect of course, that said, it'll still be better than the current mess.
  2. Tit for tat aside, I think the rampant hacking is currently the most serious threat to this game and it's very existence. As it is, we can't even 'test' this game without ending back on the south coast after being a victim to one of those cute teleport tests. For those who shrug off the hacking because they've yet to be a victim of it, I only have this to say.. Your time WILL come.
  3. Yeah I agree. They need to move onto the Arma3 engine (and pray that it's more or less hack proof) or move onto a completely new engine and have all the data saved on centralized servers, developer side.
  4. I'll one up you furthur. The guys I'm with RUN a server and we can't even control/stop the hackers. There's absolutely no protection afforded to server admins at the moment. It's ridiculous.
  5. Why wouldn't it be? The game currently has what? 800k people testing it? Unless these numbers are falsified, the game is obviously generating huge interest from the general public. Set up a Kickstart program or whatever it is. It's not that hard to get a couple of hundred grand or more to get the ball rolling. If Rocket is serious about making this game a 'real game' instead of a pet project hobby that's 'anti-game', he'll need to go down this route sooner or later. Make this game a full fledged pay to play MMO that has data controlled from a centralized server. It'll serve the dual purpose of generating the funds for game development AND drive away the script kiddies who probably abhore (can't afford) the pay to play models. The sandbox model does work (step foward EVE online), the developers (ie. Rocket) just needs more control.

What's with all the password protected servers?

I'm with the guys who run US 880. Most of us have pretty much thrown in the towel as far as hosting goes. It's 50 bucks a month to host and we probably won't renew with the hosting company once the paid month is up.
  7. The game is broken. They need to start anew and use a different engine (not Arma2) that isn't as susceptible to hacking. That or host everything on a centralized controlled server like traditional MMOs.

What's with all the password protected servers?

Fix the massive hacks floating around first. Locked servers is imo not as game breaking as the rampant cheating.
  9. Admin not around (sleeping). Somebody else has taken over. Recommend people avoid this server for now until he regains control.

    Server locked? US 880

Server hacked again. Main group killed by teleporter. I logged into the middle of the forest and was almost instantly shot by same guy. Getting logs, will try and submit them to the proper channels.

Someone needs to read through the contents of this thread before they offer their 2 cents.

Probably will stop hosting. No point when we have zero control/protection.

Perhaps I was too harsh on Rocket/Devs but this game will not survive if hacking isn't reduced to a trickle. Our server was barely 2-3 days old before it was nuked. At this point, there's no point for us to acquire vehicles, hoard gear, and set up player outposts. I think ultimately this game needs to go the MMO route with centralized servers. Granted, games like MW3, BF3, and regular first person shooters have a ton of cheaters. That said, they're also non-persistent games where items do not carry on in servers. Persistence = Invested Players = More to lose.

And.... the server was just nuke hacked. Everyone dead and every camp/vehicle gone. Rocket/BE/whomever need to get their act together or legitmate hosters like ourselves will give up and stop hosting.

I'm a representative of this server. Would like everyone to know that the server is brand new. We just got it running last night. Due to the new patch, things have been going missing, vehicles have not been spawning, etc. The server admin himself actually glitched and ended back on the south coast. Before the server went down, there was a message that went through informing everyone about the situation. Pretty much everyone left (including the members), you didn't. At this moment, the server still has issues. Vehicles are still not spawning for one. The server will be open to the public soon. Please be patient. As it is, people are far too eager to get servers blacklisted. I recommend you rein in those tendencies. It's difficult enough that we're paying for our servers, have little to no control over our them, AND have to deal with people who smear our server before it's even past it's infancy stage. We started this server ourselves because we were sicked of unstable servers and abusive admins. We don't want that reputation ourselves. Be patient and the server will be up and open. Hopefully by then, we'll have a server that's stable, fun, and FAIR for all.
