The 'cod' thing is the go-to backhand insult around here. Some people get really upset when they get killed and others just want a bean eating simulator or campfire circle jerk time. Lone wolfing is fun, I'll never stop but running with a group of like minded buddies looking for trouble is where this game really shines. Have fun bro.

NWAF on a nearly empty server is a good bet to get in some PVP. (Im not kidding, that's where the 1/40 guy is, guaranteed. Try the tents.) Otherwise the road between Berezino and Elektro is teeming with people. Lots of bambis and the kos'ers that prey on them, as well as heroes and moderately geared players. The factory and the small coastal town with the police station are hotspots. Novo is pretty hot for PVP, the tall city hall building attracts people cause it spawns great loot and gives a panorama of the valley. Don't listen to the 'COD' police. Play the game how you want and make no apologies.

I was tripping over Mosins last night as usual. What I really wanted was to find some .357 for my sweet, sweet cowboy repeater but had to settle for the Mosin as the 7.62 ammo spawns everywhere. Those little newstand kiosks are great for finding ammo in a small town without military/police structures.

I had a similar issue with my fists, for about 20 seconds my guy became the world's most skitzo shadow boxxer. Was odd.

Other than the milspec rangefinder, it would be cool if a lesser civilian version like a golf range scope could be found. Not as accurate or long ranged and no digital readout but it wouldn't require a battery and could fit in one inventory slot. example:

APC wrecks seem to be spawning useful loot. I found quality military clothes, makarov mags and an SKS at one last night. Others had some useful loot as well. I don't recall such spawns happening with such frequency in the past. Also I'm not sure if it's a bug or just extreme good luck but every piece of clothing I found was pristine. I love the cowboy repeater! I just need to find some .357 ammo for it. I also found a Mosin speed loader, are those new? It was a treat to be able to reload the mosin without hitting TAB.

Is it considered bad form to server hop at military areas?
jukaga replied to zombieland78's topic in New Player Discussion
Ironically that is likely the greatest danger time at NWAF, when it's you and 3 other people, 2 of them are likely looting NWAF to take advantage of the low pop. I can't tell you how many times I've visited NWAF at a 30+/40 server to encounter no one there, or at Vybor, Zeleno... it's weird. -

Great idea to have shard mini-networks, as long as we are restricted to 40-50 ppl per server this could be the best solution. beans for you -
I was just mulling this over today, do we have a consensus of what server hopping is? Example: last night I did a brief Zeleno-Pavlovo run to check the barracks for Gorka and AK ammo. I found some, then bummed around the Komarovo police station for a bit. Logged out for around an hour to eat then got back on, only on a different server. I then did another Pavlovo to Zeleno run before heading off to Green Mountain area to search for helis. Is that considered server hopping? If not is it because I was off for around an hour before coming back on, or does anyone think that repeating a loop twice or more in the same day is always considered hopping no matter the downtime between sessions?

Stories worth sharing (while waiting on maintenance)

Good on you for showing him the ropes. I've been burnt several times trying to help out fake noobs so I'm pretty wary of doe-eyed 'please help me' kind of people these days and keep the interactions at a bit of range and short of length. -
Imagine the panic when a flashbang goes off in the middle of the pack, it would be instant carnage!
-
Anyone know if the deer skin works now or is still only working with the boar skin? I just spent hours running around with deer skin in my pack looking for rope (didnt find any). Anyone think rope should maybe bit a bit more common than it is?

Thanks for the info bros! I feel like a chump now, running around when I already had everything I needed.

Last night I spawned in Novo, met a friendly in 5 minutes who gave me food and seemed terrified of my green checkered shirt, they kept insisting they were friendly. Sure, no problem bro, I have a machete and a backpack don't be so scared. Anyways, made my way to NWAF, then down to Vybor + base, then Zeleno, then the base in the woods south of Zeleno then logged for the night. Was on for around 4 hours in a 38/40 server and the only person I saw or heard was that first one in Novo. That was strange considering the server pop and where I was most of the time.

It will never change, ever. In fact I'll argue that it'll be worse when we have to work to survive. After all, why loot when you can kill and steal? Right now there is no reason other than the lulz to kill someone outside of very specific circumstances. When that can of beans in your pack is actually rare and not to be found in 4/10 buildings but more like 1/20 there is all the more reason to kill people on sight for their goods.

These things are a load of fun, but always end up with a field full of corpses. :D -
I miss the global text chat channel that was in the MOD
jukaga replied to bluesydave's topic in General Discussion
As one who rabidly hates the current status messages it's odd that I really miss the side chat and death notifications. Side-chat was just so entertaining in the early days of the mod, especially at night. Ahh, the days when you could find 39/40 night time servers with scared people on the chat, the red glow of flares calling you to battle and dozens upon dozens of relentless zombies on screen simultaneously. I don't miss having to wait 20 minutes to log into a server but nothing beats those early days of the mod and the side chat was a big part of it. -
So it's pretty accepted by most that we are 'testing' the DayZ alpha. Fair enough. I was just thinking about the zombies, and how their current state and numbers can be described as a 'placeholder' in my opinion. We keep getting told that they are no where near their final state, again, fair enough. What I mean by placeholder is that they are in the game to patch over a huge gaping hole in gameplay; if they weren't in game, even in the pitiful numbers they are there would literally be nothing to do at all other than mindless pvp. Anyways to avoid getting too long winded what I'm saying is that we aren't really testing anything when it comes to the zombies yet, they are just sorta there. So my question is why not add placeholder vehicles to the game? The mod had a system that more or less worked. I assume the eventual system we're going to get will be somewhat different than the mod but I bet the player base would appreciate having another placeholder feature to keep us busy and entertained. Just some random thoughts.

In the mod you could haul ass on the mountain bike, it felt like at least 60kmh cross country at top speed.

It'll be a great day when we can disable those scrolling status messages. I do not need a reminder every 3 seconds that I'm cold or hungry. I can press tab for chrissakes. No more immersion breaking status messages! Hell, even hide the server stuff unless you press tilde or something. But yeah, I've noticed lately that I barely need to eat if I have all three green, it seems to change patch to patch quite alot. I recall last patch you'd be starving 10 minutes after eating an entire cow.

I had a pristine Gorka helmet with visor, though i suppose a 7.62 would drive a hole right thru any helmet. I had assumed body shot as I clearly heard it, I wasn't aware that you could hear the shot if headshotted. Isn't that physically impossible unless you are using subsonic ammo? Does sound propagate realistically in DayZ? Sound travels 343 m/s and a Mosin round travels at around 800 m/s so if I was headshotted it would seem not.

Was that you who killed me at the Cherno firehouse Friday night? If so, don't feel bad I was looking for fights. :D Just wish I had gotten the drop on you.

That absurd M.Moore hatchetjob 'Bowling for Columbine'. There is an asinine scene in the burbs of Toronto where he just walks into people's homes and they're all like 'hey man'. I always lock my doors and so does everyone I know. You'd have to be an idiot not to. :)
-
If they bring in player-lockable doors and such then there needs to be counters. Lockpicks are a given, but really BRING BACK THE SATCHEL CHARGE! :D

Good info, thanks. On the work computer atm, so I'll watch that vid later. 'win some, lose some' indeed, I'm not bitter. Was just curious on the possible explanation
