i concur with the legit server hopping concerns. i sometimes bounce around between 8-10 servers because so many of them have issues. there are so many server issues even when the server pings back at a seductive 20ms... a) huge yellow-chain desynching every few minutes B) awful framerate c) server description is incorrect (if this issue has already been addressed, then apologies - didn't have time to read all 35 pages :o)

i think removing the death messages would somewhat negate the sense of other human players existing in the game. i like being informed that some random stranger guy has died somewhere. even with enemy players running around; if we aren't reminded about stuff going on that you cannot see, then it's not much different from playing offline against AI survivors. imo that is kinda boring.

anyway, the immature language in the video is far from impressive. (not to mention the OP responses to this thread)
-
i think humanity should merely change your DEATH MESSAGE name to red (bandit) or blue (survivor). for example you might kill a guy and it would say "Crackbeard was killed." then you know he was a bandit and feel good. otherwise it might say "Crackbeard was killed." and it would make you feel like a douche (unless you're a bandit in which case it might be sweet to know you killed a good guy as well).

i like the idea of KO's... something which can reliably KO for a decent period of time would be very interesting. i've died about 10+ times in the space of 2 weeks, and each death has been almost INSTANT. pewpewpew death. i've literally never been injured by another player, if it's not a one-shot then it's a quick burst death or getting knocked unconscious and then shot to the head. if there was a reliable incapacitation device then maybe i wouldn't die so often.
-
yeah i don't really like this idea either. gps is indeed a bit rare and basically acts as a collectors compass, but i don't feel it needs anything more.
-
imo it would add to the social side of the game if the death screen said: X was killed by Y. yes it's a bit unrealistic and might give you some godly senses, but imagine how awesome it would be (even if you're not involved) to see Y, Z, A, B and C all killed by X. then shortly after "X killed by D"... *wow D, you fecking hero*.

i think my biggest concern with the game at the moment is the unfair advantage people can get from winning the diceroll and getting the green/black survivor clothing. if you get bright blue/white, you're far more visible - almost impossible to miss. i find it very unusual that it's not server side at the very least... what about being able to choose your clothing? this might even have the added benefit of giving 'friendly' survivors a customary clothing choice like the blue/white. because bandits/looters are more likely to choose the darker clothes. this could mean that there's a 'slightly' higher chance that a blue/white guy will be friendly, so you won't necessarily have to shoot him on sight if you're a 'neutral' player.

random skin / client-side skin are effectively the same thing. you see a random skin, other players see another random skin. therefore you don't necessarily see the same - because it's done client-side as opposed to server-side! i agree it's extremely difficult to tell friend from foe - you need to tell your teammates to communicate and tell you when they're exiting the building into your line of sight etc. however, if your friend is wearing blue pants and a white shirt - what happens if you see an enemy which your client decided to give blue pants and a white shirt? it will cause you to hesitate in the confusion and will probably lead to your teammate getting killed. it could also be called random because it adds a lot of randomness to the game. leading to unnecessary, unfair and confusing situations. anyway i think you misunderstood and we're basically discussing semantics right now... my feeling is that if you can customise your face in your profile - why not your clothing? because the random/client-side skins are rediculous.

every time i do something like this - i get shot by a mystery person 5 minutes later. -
Alt F4 is it okay in this situation?
tarquinbb replied to nomonater's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
i think if you do that then you care too much about your character/items. you're not meant to live forever, it's actually a fine line between alt+f4ing from a hacker and alt+f4ing when someone starts sniping you and you can't find them etc. -
The ability to leave a written message somewhere...would be amazing.

i once found a bunch of tents in the north, full of awesome stuff. so i put 2 markers on the map: "dude, nice camp!" "p.s. thanks for the sniper rifle!" -
i can also confirm the following, which can easily be repeated by anyone: if you combine ammo e.g. one revolver round > it becomes a full m1911 mag, then you combine back again to have a fresh new 6-round revolver mag. nice exploit requiring very few clicks and very few seconds. basically, infinite ammo for revolver/m1911.... i've encountered at least a couple of 'new' survivors when i've restarted near cherno/elektro firing dozens of revolver shots at me while i run around like an unarmed maniac. it's pretty well known. if the combine feature is to stay, perhaps it needs to be changed so you can only combine when the mag is FULL.

supermarket glass does not break - but you can definitely shoot through it. i killed a guy through the glass with an AKM. on topic: you don't need to break the glass, there's a box on the roof and i think a box around the back somewhere.

technically, you describe the effect of 'client-side' player skins which has everything to do with my OP... i only pointed out the biggest issue that i've encountered with it. using player skin to recognise a teammate seems like a terrible idea anyway, i've always relied on communication and awareness.

mmm.... sounds like experience :P

okay so my friend and i are looting the north west airfield in pitch black and find a guy in the barracks with a chemlight. my friend has a view right into the barracks corridor and opens fire, but gets spotted and dies (suspect the guy was using some kind of gamma exploit because we were out of the chemlight radius and he was too accurate to be merely returning gunfire to the muzzle flash). server: *my friend was killed.* i wait a while because he doesn't know i'm there, then he kills someone else which i couldn't even see. server: *other guy was killed.* i wait a while longer, knowing he'll probably try to come out and loot bodies. sure enough he makes a dash, and i shoot him down, hear a scream... then move towards him and spray his unconscious/dead body full of holes from about 5m away. server: .... (no death message). then i get killed by someone else. server: *i was killed*. what the f*** happened here? did he alt+f4 and that's why there was no death message? because i fired about 15 rounds into his lifeless body from 5m away. it got me killed as well, because i needed to confirm that he was dead... yeah yeah i should have checked my murder/bandit kill counter but you easily forget this in the heat of the moment. anyway.... alt+f4 really stops the death message?
-
it it was definitely someone else who shot me... because i shot a guy down 100% definite, then i went close and fired like 10 bullets into his body from 10m away... but no death message. yeah pretty careless, but i had no idea there was another guy silent in the bushes all along - i gambled that i was the only silent observer. if that guy managed to survive after a server hop... what a cheating kid.
-
you make it sound like an exploit... how can you describe 'not having a terrible sound system' as 'whoring' ? :P
-
your reasoning is a bit weird though, the knife pick seems arbitrary.... if you merely want to stun then you could throw a car wheel, scrap metal or a toolbox at someone as well.
-
the act of regaining blood from food/meat is not to be realistic per se. you're taking it too literally. if you have looooads of canned food it means that you're 'well off', if you have the ability to hunt/cook meat it means that you're almost living in luxury. therefore you'd be able to recover any wounds faster due to healthy living. not being able to cook meat and thus not regenerate any blood is a good indicator that your survivor is a useless failure who's sh*t outta luck. ergo you failed and should not be able to 'get healthy' again by just going afk for a few hours then coming back every now and again to drink/eat your bin scraps. if you want realism, then poor scavengers with low blood should not be able to regenerate for free.
-
say you and another guy are near the barracks. he was lucky and his client gave you a blue/white, you were unlucky and your client gave him a black/green. he has a MASSIVE unfair/random advantage. he can see you prone in a bush 100m away, you can't see him. game over. why is this not server side or why can you not change it? client side means that every player can see a different skin.
-
all of the stuff you need to cook meat is eaaaaaaaasy to get.... there's like >50% chance of matches and other useful stuff in supermarket - it should be the first place you go after spawning. then checking a few industrial loot areas will get you hatchet and hunting knife in no time... they're the most common items to find there besides super-common stuff like flares, cans, drink etc. i don't really like the idea of being able to lie prone in the grass and go from 200 blood up to >3000 again without doing ANYTHING. it removes the whole challenge of recovering from dropping to low blood levels and passing out all the time.

it won't drive them insane... because they're effectively psychotic with no morals or empathy already. they have ALREADY been driven mad by the environment.

Just So Everyone Knows (end game)
tarquinbb replied to Catalogue's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
well... if you weren't meant to kill other survivors, why is there a feature in the game which allows you to kill other survivors at all? if there wasn't such a threat of banditry, the game would be pretty boring. PVP (or just the threat of PVP) is like 99% of the fun.
