    Thanks for the information Nort0n! May I ask, what is the native resolution of your display? Your settings are indeed quite low. Usually, you shouldn't have any problems with your system running the game on such settings. You can however see which Memory Allocator works best for you and add it to the startup parameters. You can also remove the MaxMem command. The game does not use more than 2 cores. A fast SSD will make LOD transitions smoother and give you less texture "pop-ups". Perhaps you are referring to the "Proving Ground" map? It uses a, at this stage rather experimental, new and much more sophisticated cell size, so it has a slightly different impact on performance. Oh and for the benchmark, there is actually a official benchmark scenario for both Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead in the game. (Though you have to disable DayZ in order to access it via the single player missions) The 660 in combination with a SSD should be a good idea :)

    I definitely recommend the usage of a SSD! Arma streams a lot of content from the harddrive and switching to a fast SSD will most likely already make quite a difference. Would you mind posting your advanced video settings along with some ingame benchmark results?

    You want a fully working helicopter for a AS50 with ammo? :rolleyes: Do you know how quick and easy it is to cycle crashed helicopters and stack a full tent with those weapons?

    hmm I would considder that off-topic to be honest and it wouldn't make a difference for someone to put his post into a PM instead of posting in a thread which deals with a different topic and could potentially annoy other users. Additionally, different people have different problems and answering every possibility is much harder than just focusing on a specific problem. But well, as a start you should disable AA and switch to e.g. SMAA or FXAA and see which Memory Allocator works best for you :)
  5. Glad to hear you usually have sufficient performance :) Yeah, that's a whole different story. As opposed to single player, the multiplayer experience is also heavily dependant of the server's hardware. If it runs poor or you have a bad ping, there is very little the installed software on it can do about that. See if you can find some servers with a good response time and ping, preferably a private hive (whitelisted PW protection) and stick to it. It will be a worthy new beginning :) Speaking about the engine, it actually runs outstanding for all the things it does in realtime. In DayZ however, a lot of that is not needed and thus produces a unnecessary drop on performance. Fortunately, the standalone will have all of this removed, optimized and improved so it will stand with a better performance. No problem, you're welcome mate!
  6. Yes, loading times have been decreased immensely. In-game performance however is not really subject to the DayZ mod development but rather your own choice of video settings. There are streamlined and improved scripts that run at a lower performance impact but in general, development of the Mod cannot make a huge impact upon how the game performs apart from the mentioned scripts. However, there have also been quite a few Arma 2 Beta Patches which had a positive effect on the actual in-game performance. :) Just out of interest, what exact problems are you experiencing? Just general low performance or is it something else? aah snap, ninja'ed. But I guess our posts are in a advantageous symbiosis, Fraggle ;)

    Well some of the information that has been provided here is actually quite inaccurate. As already suggested, you are propably suffering from low detail textures as you were only using Arma 2:Free which is restricted to low resolution textures and no campaign etc. Untrue however is, that there would be a DLC that improves other, already existing textures. DLC's such as BAF (British Armed Forces) only provide high quality textures for its own content (Camo, L85, AS50 etc), whereas the PMC (Private Military Company) does the same. It provides the high quality textures for its own content (survivor-, hero skin, SUV etc). The thing with the DLC's is that Bohemia Interactives provides you the content, model wise, for free so you can even play with other people who have bought the DLC's (therfore adding even more playable content such as campaigns, misssions etc) but as in the case of Arma 2:Free they are restricted to low resolution textures If there is help required, I can assist anyone in optimizing video quality settings in order to get the most adequate visual result out of your hardware. There are quite a few tricks and workarounds of whom not everyone seems aware of. :)
  8. I think this refers to the short "sprint" the infected perform after they have been fatally wounded and enter the death animation. Really happy to see it fixed :)

  10. Definitely put your Video Memory to default and change the HDR quality to normal Another very important setting, if not the most important one, is the view distance. Put it to somewhere around 3k-4k especially when you're playing Arma. Vsync should be disabled as well. Other than that, 30fps are perfectly fine and would not be an fps issue. You don't need stable 60 as in e.g. a fast paced shooter ;) If you can do something in the HW department, get your hands on a quick SSD.

    Chernarus is based on a real location in the Czech Republic and Bohemia Interactive, the creators of Arma, are from czech origin as well. They are re-creating their home so to say. It's nice to see you can confirm the authenticity :)

    That is correct :) The engine will continue but the helicopter will lose its balance and quickly fall out of the sky into a big burst of deathly fire. You can however rescue a helicopter with engine failure since the air that is flowing through the rotors during the fall actually induces enough lift to land it more or less safer. If you're interested in helicopters, try out Take on Helicopters which you can even with the Arma content :)

    Yes, it will live on. The DayZ standalone will be called "DayZ" since that is the brand name and the Mod will then be called "DayZ: Mod". It won't get the official support in the same way the standalone does and becomes a sort of community-run project. This however makes it far more flexible than the standalone, so modders can go all crazy and see what magic they can get in DayZ.

  17. Yeah absolutely. You can even just type "Limnos Airport" into Youtube and get multiple videos showing views from inside the airport, even showcasing military jets... That is indeed an important question! I think the main problem is that the justice system over there is still on strike

  19. Oh god, we should really put some basic information in the first post... They did not. These "20 years" are the maximum penalty for the charge of espionage. Their trial hasn't even started yet, they are only in custody because the greek law system has been in strike since then and still is. They did not visit the island to gather reference material for Arma 3 or anything else. Reference material has been taken a long time ago and consisted mainly of plants and other material that can be used for e.g. textures. All the military installations look completely different anyways since it takes place in 2035 where the military uses these rapid deployment containers. It was a privately organized trip that evoked from their rising interest in the island on which they had been working on for more than two years. Ivan and Martin are environmental designer who also work on Chernaurus+ which was intended to be used in the DayZ standalone No, we have not. The evidence that is being held against them, are 14 screenshots from a video that has been taken out of the window of a driving car while they were on a public highway showing parts of the and military hangars.Here is some more information all in one look

    Oh yes indeed really. The fix was provided. It worked for me. But there will always be a few people who experience proplems. You can not avoid that. Thinking so is unrealistic wishful thinking. Yes, these are 3 unpleasant bugs/glitches you listed. But that is not much nor are they unfixable And yes, there have been no major announcements or awesome blog posts in the last time. So what? Sure, as a player you would prefer a bug fix for the mod every monday, a content addition for the mod every friday, pictures from Chernaurus 2.0 every wednesday, and a tumblr post each two weeks . Oh and the devs shouldn't even think about doing PR but work on the standalone! This is not how things work out. You know, once you understand how coding works, how scripts look like, how modelling works, how PR impacts your game, how to evaluate features, how to work efficient, what budgets are, you would have a completely different take on the situation. At the moment, you represent a very narrow point of view in these statements. I think it's just you who is seeing things in a different light and since you got a rather negative attitude, you understand and interpret it in the way you want. This personal perception however does not replace the things I wrote above. Wish you a lot of fun! :)

    Dear "figo", why do you talk about "customer support" when you haven't played the mod for two months to experience said customer support? The artifacts have been fixed. ;) I don't know where you get the lack of support and "spitting on us" part from either but what I see is constant interaction on the forums paired with fixes and patches. Creating a game and the things you need to do to make it successful are fare more complex than you think and there are times where all the changes that are being made can not be presented to the public. This does however not indicate any sort of lack of support. I don't know if you're trying to convince people or what the goals of these posts were but rest assured you did not succeed due to a severe lack of logic and reason. Your train of thoughts has stopped a few stations too early. ;)

  23. Hey FishIsTwonk, you propably saw me [WP] Merlin and some of my friends. We're called Wolfpack as well though we are not a real clan but a small group of players that just plays together. I generally try to avoid player hunting in big cities ;) I am not a fan killing low equipped survivors with your military grade weapons

    Custom Maps for DayZ

    Since the mod will exist next to the Standalone as a Community Project, any future island can surely be used in DayZ. Now for the standalone, it is hard to give any definite statements. But modding in the sense of content creation, like in your case a new map, is a big wish of Dean. "Community wise, that is a different story. I think some officially support community maps would be awesome, personally."
