Ivan & Martin Free on bail

This morning around 8:30AM the news reached us that Ivan and Martin are free on Bail. The bail-sum was set to 5000 Euro’s each. We’ll bring more details about the news as it happens.. Checkout the English transcripts of Czech media : www.novinky.cz : As a result of repeated dealings, today the Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras informed Czech PM Petr Nečas over the telephone that the two Czech arrested by Greek police because of supposed photography of military objects on the island of Lemnos have been released. Both can now return back to the Czech Republic. PM Petr Nečas expressed appreciation for the efforts of PM Antonis Samaras and thanked him,” said Petr Nečas’ spokesperson Michal Schuster on Tuesday. Both men aged 28 and 33 years, who work for a video game-producing company Bohemia Interactive faced up to 20 years in prison if they were convicted. The men supposedly rerecorded and photographed strategic military objects to be used in an upcoming military shooter. After Bohemia Interactive denied that its employees were in Greece and illegally obtained photos as part of their work, the Czech President Václav Klaus also sided with them when he sent a letter to his Greek counterpart Karlos Papoulias with a request for their release. I would like to thank everyone that has participated in the petitions, sent them postcards, told your friends about this, sent letters to politicians and news and just constantly put good thoughts towards Martin and Ivan. While that doesn't solve all problems yet, the most important thing now is that the two can finally return back to their families and homes instead of being locked in a foreign jail. Thank you. I think Ivan and Martin are proud of you! :beans: Let's celebrate this day! :)

What's the best way to find friends?

Ask yourself the question as it would be the real life. What you firstly do is establish a sort of communication line. Be it skype, teamspeak, the phone, msn, or even the ingame server chat. Then you both try to locate your own location. Pay attention when you spawn. It will tell you the name of the closest city. If that didn't help, see if you can find streetsigns, unique landmarks such as big buildings, hills or valleys and most importantly streetpatterns. If there is nothing particluar you can find, you can orientate yourself by the help of the sun and a watch, the big dipper/north star or the direction the clouds are floating (west to east). You can use google to find more details on these techniques Then, try to either find a map in the game or use one online. If you both know your position and communicated it to the other, plan out a place where you are both comfortable to meet and use the knowledge you gathered to navigate your way to there.
  3. Outstanding work both on the story and directing! :beans:

New Dev Blog Report: November 2012

Jerry Hopper, respected member of the Arma community, host of Limnosradio.com, SahraniRadio, Helpivanmartin.org team and evidently .He's a really fine gentleman :)
  6. The "engine" is still going to be the Real Virtuality Engine. However, the DayZ standalone will use its own, highly modified branch of the engine that was used in Take on Helicopters which is basically a RV3.5 engine, as opposed to the Arma 3 RV4 engine. The branch that is going to be used in the standalone has e.g. a completely new multiplayer structure and will continue to blend with the RV4 engine (shaders etc) in the future. So, yes, it is still the Real Virtuality engine but a highly modified and thus different and new branch of it that improves older flaws.

Oleg is a extremely legit guy! :) He also has a certain knowledge and experience with the Real Virtuality engine being a member of the highly respected Red Hammer modding studio.
  8. That's the problem ^_^ Though rest assured zombie behavior will be overhauled in the future. Currently, the zombie animations, while being mocapped, are screwed up as their speed value has been increased without adapting the rest of the animation tree. Dean has already stated he wants to implement a whole zombie lifecycle so there will be a variety of zombies. Think of recently infected ones as more agile and active and others who are infected since a longer period of time and thus can't move that good anymore. edit: aah properly ninja'ed ^^ Though Rossums, you're not entirely correct. DayZ offers many new animations (fun fact: The animations like zombie idling, slow walk etc were actually mocapped with the BIS CEO, Marek Spanel, so technically, we are running away from and killing the CEO ^^) and only the AI is the basic but restricted Soldier AI. Thus the flanking and running in zigzag.
  9. No problem mate! If you have any more questions/issues, just report back :)

    DayZ FPS drop

Though keep in mind that the older Arma 2 map, Chernaurus, is in general more performance heavy due to its vegetation. But perhaps there might still be a different issue. Just remember it's hard to compare the new OA maps with the lush forests of Chernaurussia.
  11. Yes, you can. Arma 2:Combined Operations is only the name of the bundle of Arma 2 and the expansion Operation Arrowhead. You're ready to go. Just use a launcher like DayZ commander or PlaywithSix, the zombie apocalypse is awaiting you ;)

    New to Arma/DayZ

oh and you can actually double-click on the icons like your backpack or the loot instead of searching for "open bag" or those tiny arrows to move them ;)

I think it is Utes. You can look up more info on the net

Willing to give this game another chance

Hey Brockavich The main problem with the DayZ mod was that it was indeed nothing but a guys idea and his first attempts of getting some of these ideas into the game. Its actual success has never been planned when the creator, Dean Hall, initially published it. That's why there is no guide/tutorial or anything like that. It was meant for the Arma community and thus, no guide was needed. At that time, it was not evident that these idea were genius and millions of people will love them. Many of these problems you mentioned originate from this very problem. As there is no melee in the original game the mod is based on (The military tactic shooter Arma 2:Combined Operations), the stuff you currently see in the DayZ mod is basically just a "hack". It was not possible for the mod to implement a new and proper melee system so it was just a invisible gun with a custom animation and limited range. The zombie animations, while being mo-capped, were screwed up because their speed values have been changed without adapting the rest of it as well. This is also the reason for much of the clipping. Same goes for the new zombie detection/smell system. Much of that was broken for a long time. Though I am not sure what you mean when you say it's unrealistic for the character to keep running. There is a stamina system which has severe impact on your aiming etc. Sprinting is only available for a limited distance. After that, the character will continue with the normal jog. Same goes for the map. Perhaps you didn't know you were actually supposed to find one ingame? The current inventory system from the original game is not suited for DayZ. While it is surely not a big hassle once you're familiar with it, it's not good for DayZ. And be careful when you say the engine is limiting DayZ. It's actually not. The tailored use of the engine, in that case Arma 2 is but the engine itself is giving it an phenomenal freedom which can be used by the Standalone. From the point on that it has been decided to give DayZ its proper game and branch of the engine, it was possible to remove many of these limitations the mod has to fight with. The multiplayer structure is changed to make it more safe from hackers, there is a completely new inventory system, zombies and animations can be reworked, the game can be properly optimized etc etc.. While it will surely still take some time and effort to solve all issues, the freedom the standalone offers is hardly comparable with the limitations of a mod. And yes, you bought Arma 2:Combined Operations. DayZ will be a new game you'll have to buy.

    Help From Dayz Community

Big cities such as Cherno/Elektro etc indeed have a larger impact on performance. But you will just have to see how much juice you can get from your pc and if you encounter any problems, counter these with adjusted settings. You are more than welcome to report back when you have first ingame results and I'll try to help you as much as possible.

    Help From Dayz Community

Ah don't worry a simple double post won't hurt. Hmm yeah these specs really do allow only low settings. However, I can already advise you to disable AA (anti-aliasing) and use one of the provided FXAA options instead. Additionally, you should see which Memory Allocator works best for you and also don't put your shadows on low as this will shift the work away from your GPU to your CPU. Post-processing should be on normal (as highest), as well as HDR. Just see what settings give you the best compromise between performance and visual quality. In general, Arma and also DayZ are rather slow-paced games where your mind is, up to a certain point, worth more than fps. A stable count around 25 is fine. Of course, low fps are always a certain disadvantage but it's not as bad as in e.g. CS or something like that. You will soon realize it's all about the atmosphere, immersion and tension that will make your eart actually pound. ;)

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

It was a good decision. Because what's the point? There are people who think they need to know when the standalone is going to be released, there are people who think Dean is giving out too less information, there are people who think it's better to not release uncertain information and there are people who don't care about that at the moment. But you know what unites all these people? They are all here because they are looking forward to a good game. So, where's the point in arguing about wether it is justified to feel entitled to getting information or if it's an unforgivable mistake to not being able to fulfill a "promise"? What can you get from someone who thinks different? Is there any profit for you personally? I don't think so. The only thing it would bring forth is conflict within the community itself. There is nothing anyone around here or with whom you're arguing can do about the supposed "problem". So why not pursue the same goal we all have, the goal that is independent from all these opinions listed above and that is for DayZ to be a fucking great game. While I think it's definitely necessary to keep being demanding and keep asking questions to the dev team and also question what they are doing, it is less than necessary to lose oneself in such a marginal question and even harm the community in the process. You know, you could be arguing with these people in the same way with the only difference that it won't affect your personal relationship. The "whiny entitled child" or "pathetic ass-kisser" could have the same take on the humanity system or have an interesting suggestion and you might even come to a beneficial solution together . You can get more beanz but still work towards a goal that is profitable for everyone. Fuck the namecalling, fuck the one-lined-memes-answers, there is a game to be made!

    DayZ Machinima Q/A

aha that's nice because then you can use a lot more scripting and have much more possibilities. :) As a start, you should watch e.g. this tutorial on camera.sqs (A in-house scripting command from Arma) for Arma 1 (the scripts are still valid). Also, this is going to be your bible.

    DayZ Machinima Q/A

I would like to know if what you have planned is more of a machinima or more of a gameplay web series? If it is heavily focused on a machinima, things are going to be much easier. To already answer some of your questions: The UI can already be disabled client-side on all servers. (see options- game options- DayZ UI) Yes, absolutely. You can find more details on camera.sqs on the net. There are in fact already several "free camera" tools for Arma 2 available. FRAPS is widely used and offers a good video quality but also a big output size. Depending on your GPU, you can also use MSI Afterbruner's video capturing tool. I can't answer that question but I can tell you that the game offers you a lot of freedom which many others do not. Changing character models/skins is also no problem at all.

    Completely new to the game

I was already able to help someone who had the same question so it might be interesting for you as well :) If you're really just interested in DayZ, you should wait for the standalone which will be released soon as it will deliever a superior DayZ experience compared to the mod. However, I think it would definitely be worth it if you're not struggling too much with the price (There is a discount at gog.com so Arma 2:CO costs only 17.99$ at the moment!) Not only for the original game, Arma 2:CO, which alone has incredibly much content and replayability but for DayZ as well. It surely won't be a waste to try the mod already and especially considering the mod will still be obtained by the community even after the standalone will be released it will offer you value for the money. The community will most likely also be able to do some experiments the official dev team won't be able to implement, so having this opportunity will propably guarantee you more than just practice and fun in the meantime. If you have any more questions concerning Arma or DayZ, feel free to just ask! :) @JAtchley80, Arma is a sandbox military tactic shooter which on top of it has full support for mods and a very large and active modding community. If you are interested in assisting someone with your knowledge and eventually getting some of your assets or work in the game, I recommend you to take a look at the Bohemia Interactive Forums, specifically the "modelling" section ;)

    DayZ Standalone Confirmed

Well, the problem is that DayZ is a mod for a game that is very userfriendly in its construction. Arma's mods have always been the heart of the game ever since the first "Operation Flashpoint" game. That means the multiplayer structure is open for the user and he can use scripts for his custom missions which he can create freely. However, due to the success of DayZ, this openess that was based on previous trust of the user and has always worked in the original scope, the Arma community, there have been people who are abusing this freedom to hack. Therefore, hackers ,or better to say, scripters are a real threat to the mod. Especially highly popluated servers suffer from them. This is not to say the Standalone will be the same because it will actually restrict the user in this department much more as these structures are not needed here anymore, leaving a much more secure concept that removes all these previous abilities to hack. Nonetheless, there has already been a major progress and ever since private hives with whitelist protection have been established, the hacking problem is marginal if you're lucky with the server choice. So, just look for a well administrated private hive server and the hackers aren't a problem :) @SupahRyan, no problem, you're welcome mate!

; It would definitely be worth it! Not only for the game (Arma 2:CO) but for DayZ as well. It surely won't be a waste to try the mod already and especially considering the mod will still be obtained by the community even after the standalone will be released it will offer you value for the money(and no, as you can already guess it from the name, the DayZ standalone will be completely independend from Arma and be its own game) The community will most likely also be able to do some experiments the official dev team won't be able to implement, so having this opportunity will most likely guarantee you more than just practice and fun in the meantime.

    DayZ Standalone Confirmed

To me, that's actually a good answer :) You know, looking back at how things evolved around the DayZ project, it is no surprise to see a normal chap such as Dean to feel the overwhelming nature of it. Don't worry about what you feel know, Dean, it is actually a good reaction as it shows how much you care about your project. Naturally, expectations can make you crazy and haunt you when you try to sleep as you fear to not meet them but at the end of the day, these expecations are nothing but a show of interest and this interest is what makes you stronger and feeds your dedication. If no-one cared about DayZ back then when you did the forum thread, all these great things would never have become reality. And to everyone having these expecations and demands, I think we should understand that what we actually demand is a good game. This good game can only be achieved with work and that work takes time. More time given to the development crew equals a better game and as long as financing isn't a problem, the equation works. The first release build is in fact very crucial. Perhaps even more than many people estimate it to be. It might just be a "foundation build" but to many people it is nothing short but the first impression of "the" DayZ game. Therefore, we all should aspire it will be the best it can. Dean did not publish the "news" he announced. But why are you here? To play a good game? While he did not make these announcements, has the game gotten any worse? I think, it wasn't clever to not live up to the message and I think it should have been handled better but I really don't care about it in any bigger scale. I think it would have been much worse to actually do these announcements and then in fact not delievering them (as it was drastically shown by Sergey Titov in such a poor way...). That would be a true and fatal mistake. What Dean did was nothing but telling us he wants to avoid precisely this mistake and thus, it was not possible to announce a release date or similar. My advice for the community would be to try to be productive in the meantime. Let's philosophise more abut the game concept, let's think more about gamefeatures, let's produce more creative ideas. There have been many good advices and ideas that originated from the community and they deserve further thoughts. This is our opportunity to help shape the game we want and make the demands we have possible. It is already proven that Dean is using the ressource that is the community and appreciates its potential. It's ultimately the root and crown of DayZ.
