    Hehe, finally one of these hipster images is actually useful :D Though, that's exactly it! No matter what you do, there is always a certain amount of uncertainty involved and that's what makes it so captivating. You can die at any given time, position or situation.

    The first posts were originally posted in the old DevBlog thread but then carried over to the proper announcement ;) At that time, Smasht only said the blog was out, so I provided the link to everyone not knowing where to find it :) On the topic of notes: I'll try to make a huge paper chase in cryptic messages all around Chernarus for everyone, revealing a hidden spot with a ton of goodies. Heck, we could even do proper Geocaching in-game! :)

  6. ACE is an outstanding full conversion mod for Arma 2 that aims to bring more realism and completely new features to the game. ACE stands for Advanced Combat Environment. Its feature list is beyond epic and adds extremely neat features to the game! You can find it at Armaholic and try it for yourself

    I often use roadflares in combination with smoke in these situations. ;) You'll see they are very effective tools!

    Oh you're still in the "raging about lost equipment" stage? This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill - the story ends, you continue to stash up weapons in tents and rage about losing them and aim at whatever you want to aim at. You take the red pill - You go into Wonderland, and I show you what DayZ is really all about.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.5.1 Update

    I am quite happy with the new patch. It introduced some very interesting mechanics (boiling water etc) and seems to innovate in the right directions :) Thanks for the work I am not a direct serverhoster but I see a few of my buddies having problems with crashsites and tents etc not saving after restart which is probably related to their own changes to the files such as new vehicle spawns, correct? Perhaps you could hint towards options to solve these issues in the bugtracker as people having these problems could directly resolve them there. Other than that, there is one thing bugging me personally and that is the removed ingame scoreboard. With the missing base construction and sophisticated vehicle repar mechanics, the two major metagames at the moment are basically getting good loot to either hunt players or slay zombies. I still remember back in the days when there were only a handfull of servers, most people were not too hostile and killing zombies was seen as the goal. People with 2k or even more zombie kills were not a rare sight. Now that has obviously changed but a lot of people are still the same. I even extremely enjoy it myself to know that I am the number one in zombie kills on the server. It basically adds a whole new sense of friendly competition but with the removal of this scoreboard, this competition vanishes as there is no point in it if you can't compair your stats to those of others. Consequently, even more people will move to the second metagame. Killling other survivors which is really not all DayZ is about. Furthermore, I see people getting confused as they now don't even know how to check the server they are currently on. Was it only removed due to the error?

    Real Virtuality Engine?

    Hey there bluesydave! First of all, there is no real SDK for the RV engine however you get all the tools to create any sort of content for free. You can download them from here or install them from your Arma 2:CO game. For modelling and texturing, you'll mainly be using Oxygen2 and TexView2. Additionally, you should carefully read through some of these tutorials and also check out this section in the official BIS forums to get more feedback and information. Looking forward to any results! Quite a nice showreel you have :) hehe I must type faster :P

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

    The moderators are not payed by anyone and do this in their free time. If you demand objectiveness, exercise it for yourself first ;) This first "deadline" originated from the situation as it presented itself last year. At that time, the initial plan was to get DayZ out as a sort of "Mod on steroids" to just kind of seperate it from Arma 2/3 and release it ASAP. Back then, "The War Z" was nothing more but a product of promises and hot air and these promises were real competition. But as soon as it was actually released, the steam vanished (click) and it was obvious to everyone that "The War Z" is no competition at all. This and probably the still rising popularity have led to a drastic change of the development plans. Now, BIS and the DayZ devteam are creating a whole new engine to perfectly suit DayZ with all its needs and make it live up to the full potential. That's why the release has been delayed and is still going to be delayed ;)

    Is Cherno based on Chernobyl?

    It's not based on Pripyat but in fact a real location in the Czech Republic. You can follow the link and see it for yourself in googlemaps. The environment and especially the buildings have been recreated with a stunning attention to detail! Do these hills look kind of familiar? Perhaps this looks even more versant? Yup that's right! It is indeed With its barns There is even more awesome stuff such as this trailer we always wanted to strap on our bicycles Or that waterpump that has satisfied our thirst so many times I wonder how many of us would actually be able to kind of navigate in that "unknown" territory already :P

    Yes indeed, there are quite a few :) The most notable of them is probably the much higher shadow rendering distance which really enriches the scene. This generally has a bigger impact on performance but a lot of code is different to what we know from A2/TOH so it's hard to compair them.

    Yeah if he does, he shouldn't talk about it and won't get any response. Just to throw some more info in: there are also the normal Bandit, Hero, Survivor, Ghillie and Camo skins.

    Perhaps you're talking about the "face.jpeg" function? At least you should be ;) Additionally, you can add camo painting to the default faces by adding the corresponding class to your player profile file.

    The actual research for Arma 3 took place in 2010. Ivan and Martin were on private vacation together to visit the beautiful island they have been working on for such a long time. :)
