As an 'old' wiki designer i here have some (as i see) important info for the director and the editors of the fresh new wiki. Don't just let everybody edit as it would be killed by spam and clutter very quickly. With that said dont be afraid of making mistakes as you can easily revert to previous versions of a page. A Wiki IS NOT a pastebin The 'start' of a wiki is very very important (seeding the wiki) since all stuff that gets added here after, is 'build' upon the seeding. As somebody mentioned early in this thread, its important to first make some templates for pages. So the possible many many pages have some sort of uniformity (sorry english is not my native language) A Wikipage is NOT a HTML page! DO NOT start thinking of a wiki page like a webpage and use common HTML code (i already see HTML tables there, even on the front page) - Instead use proper WIKI markup tags. This makes it much easier to edit pages when they are NOT cluttered with HTML tags. (No offence but this is a common error when web designers start editing wiki's) Check this page BEFORE you start editing and find the proper WIKI tags to achieve what you want http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Contents On pages with many lines of text it is a good idea to put a "Table Of Contents" in the top and then use the wiki markup to identify headings and sub-headings... (I'm not especially familiar with mediawiki, but wiki markups are pretty much the same across different wiki engines) As you can read here: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Formatting You use heading formatted like this: (level 1 is not used as it is the pagetitle) == Level 2 == === Level 3 === ==== Level 4 ==== Etc. etc. And as the link above also reads: An article with 4 or more headings automatically creates a table of contents. Hmmm When a wiki has much information then most of your time editing is NOT by adding new stuff, but re-factor data that already is there. This so the info in the wiki gets more and more efficient and clear for new readers. (Hmmm so much for a short post here in the thread - luls) I am contemplating if i should join the wiki or not - This i have to think more about since its a BIG task to do (when you are a 'grammar nazi' like me) But dont forget that: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Contents is your friend. But anyways good luck with the wiki - Maybe i join up soon or later! cheers /sEi PS: A WIKI PAGE IS NOT A HTML PAGE!!!!! (use this as mantra and you will reach nirvana ;) )
