Need Medical Assistance? We can help.
Askar replied to Dr Wasteland MD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Alright, I'm available to help once more in Cherno. Anything in the region around Cherno and even as far as Elektro is valid, just send me a PM or add me on steam (Askar) and I'll get you taken care of as soon as I hit a hospital. Still available. Fully stocked and capable of entering the most dangerous of zones in Cherno or Elektro. -

Check your PMs guys, they're in the upper right corner of the screen. I swear, half of the patients I try to help never respond to my PM attempts  -

If you're unable to help I'll be online shortly. DayZ Commander appears to be working, though it hasn't finished installing the new beta patch yet. Assuming I don't have to come back in a moment and edit this all away I should be able to help anyone along the southern coast, particularly in the greater Cherno/Elektro/Mogilevka region. I'm almost finished installing the updates and then I'll be available for help, so if you're in that area and noone else has gotten to you yet send me a PM or add me on steam (Askar). -

I'd love to provide assistance in the Cherno-Elektro-Mogilevka region but I'm having a ton of trouble updating to 1.7.2.5... SixUpdater doesn't provide it, my manual install keeps telling me that 'chernaurus' has been deleted, and DayZ Commander is downloading now. Should I successfully update I'll be glad to help anyone in my region. I'll edit this post if I manage to get everything working. -
Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
Askar replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I do not know why this is not on the front page of the Suggestions forum. After reading through it, I realized that almost all of the things suggested here are part of my image of the perfect DayZ game. So, have a bump. This thread needs to stay at the top! -

I'm having a ton of difficulty with the website right now, it took me over five minutes just to load this page. So responses may be slow (if I can even load the page at all next time), but I'm able to help anyone in the Cherno-Elektro-Mogilevka region, but only on 1.7.2.4 servers for now. -

Anyone at all need help? I'm south of Mogilevka now. I'm currently running 1.7.2.4 but I can switch to 1.7.2.5 if anyone needs me to. -

Alright everyone, I'm finally back. I'll be logging on shortly if all bodes well. I've likely lost my bike in the two weeks I've been absent, so my range is currently limited to my location (roughly 500m west of the NWAF...). So, anyone in the greater NWAF region PM me for help. I've been hearing about a lot of bugs, so let's hope I don't end up spawned on the coast or anything. Good to be back, in any case. -
will dayz stand alone come to consouls
Askar replied to resistence1993's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm just going to say this... PC gaming is expensive. It's because playing games like DayZ, Planetside 2, Minecraft, and other titles takes a huge amount of resources and power. Those things are expensive. If you want the best, you've got to be ready to shell out some cash. That said, I believe PC gaming is actually not much more expensive if at all than console gaming is. I've been a PC gamer for over a decade, and I was a console gamer for a period of 5 years too. Right now, you can build an amazing computer that would run pretty much all of the upcoming titles at maximum graphics settings and power for a little over $1000. That's a lot. But you can build a cheaper one (such as the one my close friend just got) for closer to $500 that would still run ARMA II and BF3 at maximum. These up-front costs are rather large compared to the consoles, but the games available and the enduring viability of your machine make it worthwhile. Also, games on PC are typically cheaper. Most Xbox games come out around $60 and stay there for quite some time, but you can get plenty of great PC games for much less. Take Minecraft and ARMA II for example. Minecraft is around what, $15-$20? And you also get the playability of hundreds if not thousands of fully functioning mods. ARMA II is likewise $15-$20 now, depending on where you buy it. You're not only buying ARMA II, but all of the mods available for it. I find that most true PC games you can buy are worth about 5-10 different console games. I'd rather have Skyrim on PC instead of ten brand-new console games, because after I finish Skyrim I can enjoy hundreds of game-changing mods for it. Also, your PC will last you a long time. The more up-front cost you have to deal with, the longer it will last. My new $1100 machine will probably last me 5 years and still play new games well, and when the time comes that I need to upgrade it only certain parts will need to be upgraded, typically under $100. New consoles come out more frequently than that and are often more expensive (at least this was the trend, the next generation of consoles has been slow this time around). It may be close to a decade (unless technology really picks up) before I have to completely replace every part of my current machine and buy a new one. I had a top-of-the-line machine from 2001 until 2010. It was only able to play games like BF:BC2 on medium settings by the end, but I got my money's worth out of it. The kicker here is that your computer will be capable of many more things than your console here will, easily making it worth the tradeoff in my opinion. Sure, your console may be cheaper, but the games you play on it are more expensive in a sense. You get about 10% of a PC game's value (read:not console ports) out of most console games. In my mind, you'd have to buy $600 worth of console games to get $60 worth of PC gaming experience. Just my thoughts on the comparison some people brought up in the thread. I'm a PC gamer at heart, but I've had my fair share of consoles too. Especially the terrible Xbox 360. -
(Rocket) Why are we logging in on the coast
Askar replied to Siggy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I see a lot of people saying that players should just stick to one server. I'm sure all of these points have been stated and reiterated at some point during the thread, but noone seems to be getting the point so I'll do it again. Positive aspects of this new 'feature': Server hopping for loot is gone. Server hopping to avoid players or to outmaneuver enemies is gone. Combat disconnecting is extremely limited; if you disconnect you have to stay disconnected for a long time or risk spawning on the coast. Or you could log back in and take the shot you deserved. And here are the negative aspects: Servers that are 'good' for me in my area have a tendency to go offline permanently or to not appear in the server list for many of my friends. Sometimes servers are just whacked up; you can get stuck at the loading screen for an hour on a server that ran perfectly for you the day before. What do you do now? Sometimes servers change settings. I've been on veteran servers that change to recruit-style settings (position on map, other shitty features) later. Do I keep playing here? Even though I'd rather play on harder settings, I can't now because of this 'feature'. New friends or friends already playing can't join me, as they'd be warped to the coast and likely shot if they left whatever server they inhabit. It would be virtually impossible to team up with people outside of your server, since they'd have to die and lose it all before they're willing to spawn on the coast for you, unless they think they can make it to safety before they're butchered on the coast. Many helpful organizations are virtually destroyed by this. Say goodbye to trading, rescue groups, and medics. Medics especially have to hop servers probably 5+ times per hour in order to meet up with patients. That's not even to avoid conflict, just to meet up on the same plane of existence to render services. And even then, patients and medics often get very different servers listed and have to try meeting up on several different ones to see which works enough for both parties. Again, what happens when your chosen server goes down? I had a clan a month ago. We established a decent sized camp and actually managed to get a working vehicle under the noses of the ruling clan on that server. It took us a week and a half. The day after we fixed up our truck the server went down, and hasn't appeared again since. You're telling me that I have to risk the coast in my good gear because the server I played on doesn't exist anymore? Not to mention the other potential abuses of admin power. If I'm banned from my server for whatever reason, what do I do now? What if a hacker appears and teleports everyone to the NWAF. No way in hell I'm staying on that server, I'll go to a night one to sneak out of the airfield and then return. I'm not about to be punished by hackers and stay on the now swarming airfield to get shot. That's just a list of things off the top of my head. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see combat disconnection and server hopping removed. But this just isn't the answer. This 'feature' causes far more pain to legitimate players than to server hoppers. If you have a server that works perfectly for you 100% of the time, that's fantastic. But much of the playerbase isn't so lucky, and what happens to friends who are on different servers? New friends who want to play with you? They have to essentially sacrifice their character, for no good reason. If this stays permanently, I'm afraid I'll have to stop being a medic. I'd only be able to help people on the coast since I have to server change to meet people, and doubtless I'd be shot on sight by every makarambo and bandit on the coast for the gear I carry alone. -
(Rocket) Why are we logging in on the coast
Askar replied to Siggy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I didn't mean to imply that only 1% were effected, I was just saying that even if it were only one percent, it's still a big deal. I'm quite aware of the multitude of posts regarding the subject. -
(Rocket) Why are we logging in on the coast
Askar replied to Siggy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That's a pretty stupid attitude. Yes, this is a mod. Yes, it is an alpha mod at that. Yes, it is our job to find and report bugs. It is also our duty to help rocket & co determine what features are working and which ones need to be changed immediately. Maybe most people here are complaining, but they have a right to. Just because this isn't happening to YOU doesn't mean it doesn't matter. It's happening to someone, and that in itself is enough of a reason to have a thread about the issue so that we can get rocket's attention to this very dire issue. Even if it only effects 1% of the playerbase, this is a gamebreaking bug for that 1%. That's just unacceptable. Noone is expecting rocket to fix it this very instant, but he needs to get it done ASAP. I don't even know if I am effected by this 'feature' since I can't play yet, but the fact that it's effecting these people is pretty serious. Don't expect anyone to give a damn when you're unable to play due to some broken feature or random bug if you're going to be such an ass about it. -

How the hell do they expect me to heal people? I can't be on every server at once. Frequent server changing is part of my job. -
Trading high-tier loot for good intel on {CQF} operations
Askar replied to DayZ Dan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Normally I disapprove of anything that sends more patients my way, but I think I'll make an exception for this. If I weren't a medic and well trusted, I'd love to help you out here :) Hope to see a lot of injured CQF. I know almost nothing about them, but I'm glad someone is actually doing something like this... I've always hoped things like this would emerge in-game. -
does a ghillie cover up a bandit skin
Askar replied to GulpinGulpin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd rather we have the choice to wear these new 'skins', maybe at spawn. It won't change how people react to you (and it shouldn't) but it would at least allow us to tell each other apart. Before I was a medic, I often ran into scenarios when two friends operating in the same area accidentally surprised each other and one of them died because we all look alike. -
Undocumented features for the lulz- What are they?
Askar replied to Noise (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That was my assumption. Just worried, as he's had trouble getting skins to work properly in the past. I can hope against hope that some stealth-buff was applied to the crossbow? Anyone know? It's long overdue. -

Askar replied to Noise (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So, will I have this 'hero' skin over my Ghillie? I haven't downloaded the patch yet but I've seen a few other people saying that females got new skins too. It could just be the bandit/hero scarfs though. -
To those Who picked on the people with Battleye Problems the Last Few Dayz
Askar replied to Sammy101's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Fully agree with OP. I've been the victim of two false-positive bans in my years of gaming and I've seen thousands of people get hit by them before. The recent Battleye problem was just another incident where a terrible anti-cheat program hits inoccent users. Fortunately people got un-banned this time, I've seen many people be forced to buy a new game (looking at you, PunkBuster) simply because the anti-cheat banned them falsely. I'm not saying all of the bans were unwarranted, but a good number were innocent people. Any any amount of false-positives resulting in potentially permenant bans is unacceptable. I'd rather get killed by a hacker once per week than have a chance at being forced to buy a new game. My point here is that you should try and treat each claim as if the poster is honest. If he's not, he's not going to get unbanned anyway. If he is truly innocent, then help him try to appeal the ban. You aren't hurting anything or anyone by at least pointing him in the right direction. I've been on the receiving end of false bans (most recently when my Starcraft II account was hacked, I still have no idea how as I am very security-conscious) and I can assure you there is nothing more frustrating and stressing in gaming. You've spent a good deal of money (most likely) on a game, played it fairly and happily, and then randomly you're told you can't play anymore (unless you give them more money). When you're in that situation, most people panic. They want to be able to play again and they want to do it immediately, they don't want to be permanently banned. Sure, it's a knee-jerk reaction and they're desperate, but you might feel much the same when suddenly thrust into that situation. I know I'd be pissed and confused if I were banned from DayZ (let alone ARMA II)... Just trying to help people see from the other perspective. I've had quite a few experiences with this. It's not pleasant, especially when everyone out there is one-hundred percent convinced that you're a hacker. Hell, you may even start to believe it yourself. I was trying to figure out what I possibly could have done in battlefield to be considered a hacker a few years back when that banned me. -

To hide from bandits and/or avoid players? Perhaps while trying to stealthily approach patients to heal. -
Losing items due to logging out too soon after acquiring them
Askar replied to Klimhazzard's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've heard one minute, five minutes, ten minutes. As far as I can tell, it's rather random. I've tested it myself before, most recently when I looted an extra two pairs of NVG from a tent I meant to give to some medic buddies. Having experienced this bug before I waited well over fifteen minutes in a bush before I logged out. When I logged back in the next morning, all of the NVG and my extra GPS I had grabbed were gone, and my extra SD STANAG rounds that I had dumped into the tent were back in my pack. So I'd say wait about ten minutes and then hope that it doesn't happen to you. As far as I can tell, there's no avoiding it. I've even lost weapons I picked up hours before, often I don't even get whatever I dropped back. -
They're not too hard at the moment, but the issue isn't with their difficulty. The thing is, the current zombies are hard for all the wrong reasons. I think zombies should be ten times harder than they are now, but for the right reasons. Zombies need to be dangerous, they need to be deadly up close and they need to come at you en-masse. What they don't need to do is dodge back and forth while charging, phase through walls, or spawn around you. Yeah, it takes up server resources, but we need more zombies in a town and we need those zombies to stay dead when killed, at least for a time. Maybe for 10 minutes, maybe until the last player leaves the area for five-ten minutes. Anything to make it feel more persistent and real. Hell, that'd even help establish actual safezones. It would then be possible for a group of survivors to clear out a town and keep it cleared, using it as a base of sorts. Maybe in the standalone.
