"Save Old Bike" doesn't do shit...
Askar replied to austendude's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Same thing happened to the one bike I ever got my hands on. Hid it in a place noone could find (not even people looking for such places :P), then placed it up against a tree, carefully hidden in a pine grove. The only way they could find it is if they were for some reason scanning every single tree in that area with a toothpick. I had trouble finding it myself when I returned later that day. I saved it a ton of times over that 2 hour period of bike ownership, never even moved it from that spot. Next morning, it's gone. The server could have just eaten the vehicle. It's been largely fixed but it still happens, especially if the server updates either the mod or the beta. I've lost all of the vehicles I've ever managed to get my hands on within hours because of metal-hungry servers. -
No Serverhopping? Give us more places with best loot!

Unfortunately, I don't believe it is getting nerfed at all just yet. I'd love to be proven wrong on that account though. From my understanding, the OP was made in response to all of the people asking Rocket & co. to fix server hopping. He's worried that he won't be able to get the gear he wants when it is fixed unless the gear is made much more available. Specifically, I think he's wanting things like deer stands to play a more prominent role in spawning loot, so that he can run around the map over and over trying to get thet gear he seeks. To the OP; it doesn't matter how much time you have spent or will spend, how much effort you've put into finding this sniper rifle of yours, or how many times you've died trying to get one. You want a sniper rifle and that's okay, what's not okay is expecting to get one just because you want it or just because someone else has it. That's not the way this game (alpha, antigame, whatever you want to call it...) works. This game isn't based upon fairness. If we all got what we wanted, we'd have little incentive to do anything in this game. I desperately want a working vehicle. Any vehicle, at all. I've spent hours and hours on many servers hunting for one, I've fixed up two ATV's only to have the server eat them the following morning. I've fixed up a truck only to have my group murdered just before we finished filling it up and had it stolen. I've seen other people find a vehicle or steal one or fix one up many times. I've killed a guy on a bike (my second murder in many months of play, I still don't really kill people) only to have a sniper kill me as I went to take it. I've been denied a dozen times, so has everyone in my 2-4 person group. It's not fair. But it shouldn't be fair. The game is great because I want that bicycle, that jeep so badly that when I actually have it within my grasp nothing can compare to that feeling. Even when I inevitably get denied ('tis my curse) it's still fun. I had a shootout over a military offroad once, my group of 4 at the time with 1 other survivor we had helped out fought a group of 3 bandits who jumped us as we were excitedly loading up into the jeep. We all died and lost our weeks old characters, lost the jeep, lots everything. But that firefight could not have been nearly as intense or adenaline packed had I not wanted that jeep so badly. So it's great that you want this sniper rifle, but you can't let it consume your playtime. Don't be upset when you can't get it, or when you get it and die before firing a shot. Don't be afraid to lose it, if you are, why did you get it to begin with? Just play the game, have fun, and hopefully you'll eventually get what you want. -
I'm sorry, but you're wrong. The guys you were watching may have found a hacked-in tank, but they absolutely are not officially in the game. Just like jets/any other vehicle you can think of, hackers can hack tanks in. They can even be repairable, as I imagine the effects of the modded repair items are global for vehicle types since it would be kinda silly to do it individually per vehicle (someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like the items just fix a particular broken part for each vehicle. I'd imagine that a hacked in tank with broken treads could be fixed by tires). I'm pretty sure that the items and vehicles listed on the DayZ wiki are pulled straight from the databases, so if it's not listed there it's almost certainly hacked in. The only exceptions would be bugs or hidden changes introduced with a patch, each of which would be discovered rather quickly especially if tanks were spawning. I'm not saying that whoever you were watching play hacked in the tank, but it certainly was hacked in at some point by someone, because they do not 'naturally' spawn. At all.

No Serverhopping? Give us more places with best loot!

I'm sorry to say that this game just isn't about getting the 'best' gear or even the gear that you want. Loot is rare and should be rare for a reason. So what if only one person on the server manages to get X weapon? It doesn't matter, this game isn't meant to be fair. Hell, if you want it enough, you'll go find Mr. X and take it from him yourself. You need to step back and look at the game, and realise it's only about the gear because YOU make it about the gear. I was the same back in May, but when I realized that getting the best gear doesn't really matter, I started enjoying the game much more. Sure, it's great when you do get the best gear you can get/want. You've earned it, or gotten lucky, it doesn't matter. It is not, however, some game-given right that you get that gear. At this moment, I have NVG's, an M4 CCO SD, an AS50 (sadly found with no mags and I've had terrible luck finding any, not even M107), a Coyote, rangefinders, GPS, and a Ghillie Suit. I'm absolutely ecstatic that I managed to get all of this (combination of luck and camp raiding), but I'll lose it all eventually. And when I do, I won't complain that I can't find it again even if I hit the same barracks 50 times on ONE server (waiting for loot to recycle or however you guys do it) because it doesn't matter unless you want it to. The loot being rare makes it more meaningful when you do manage to get your hands on it (although it won't truly be rare until duping, server hopping and disconnect exploits are fixed). This game isn't about hitting the airfield over and over or even hunting for helicopters. This game is about survival, along with whatever else you want it to be. What I'm trying to say here is that if you make this game about getting the 'best loot' available, then you're going to be in for a bad time. A lot of people I play with have the most fun long before they get anything resembling good gear. That's because it is the experiences that make DayZ geat, not getting the best loot you can. That only facilitates good experiences, and is often unnecessary. I had just as much fun with a winchester and a Czech backpack as I do now with my silenced weapons and 'best' gear. Stop worrying about getting your sniper rifle and get out there and live. You're going to die soon regardless, make the most of the gear you have while you can. If you're lucky, you'll find the weapons you want anyway or kill someone who has one. Learn to have fun without the gear you want and you'll have even more fun when you actually stumble across it (without exploiting!). If you hunt forever to find it, you'll just be that much more afraid to lose it all. -
I'd love to help but it'd take me half an hour or more just to run there, and I'm a little wary of that spot since you just announced it. I'd expect bandits to be camping it to kill the geared players coming to help you. As Sephka and KennyNZ said, don't respawn. Seriously. Sure, you could respawn, get all of your gear back, and be much farther than you currently are now before you get help most likely. But you'd be missing out on some great opportunities for some amazing experiences, just like combat disconnecters do. Maybe noone will come, and you'll crawl 10 minutes to a town only to die there. Or maybe you'll find morphine and go on your merry way. Or perhaps a bandit will respond to your distress just to kill you for fun. Or maybe someone genuine will come, all the way across the map potentially, and help you. Maybe they'd become a new friend. Any one of these outcomes would be a unique experience that you would just waste by hitting respawn. Just yesterday I got spawned in the debug plains randomly, with no water left and 6km to the nearest town. I could have just hit respawn, I didn't have much. Instead, I ran that entire distance, at night, and as I was dying of dehydration (around 7k blood left at this point) I stumbled across a shack with a handful of zombies. I've never been so relieved to see zombies as I was then when I blew them apart with my Enfield and found a can of soda. The point I'm trying to make is that you'll enjoy this game much more if you don't exploit server hopping or respawning. You never know what will happen.

Hey, try clicking respawn on the new character. It's worked for several people, and I just posted a more in-depth topic about it: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/37078-fix-for-spawning-as-a-new-character-without-having-died/

Logged in today near coast, all items gone?

Look at my topic here, I just posted it in response to this issue. Short version: Click respawn. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/37078-fix-for-spawning-as-a-new-character-without-having-died/ -
Logged out next day my GEAR IS GONE + L85A2 AWS

Same thing happened to me last night. I grabbed the extra NVG and Rangefinders, as well as extra mags for the AS50 and M4A1 Camo SD, and then the server suddenly reset. After that, I was a new spawn yet again until I hit respawn. Off-topic, does anyone know if Ghillie suits are fixed? My group got like 6 from that camp and are too afraid to put them on. -

I've only noticed this bug happening the past few days. It's hit me 5 times and two friends at least once. Once it happened after I was 'killed' instantly upon login, but again respawning fixed the issue. I've also had an odd error where a character gets 'trapped' on a server. I logged into one server the other day and was able to play normally with my character, but no matter what I did that character only existed on that server. I initially thought it was using a seperate HIVE, but two friends were able to play just fine and log into other servers with their characters. That particular bug persisted until I died, at which point I recovered my gear and was able to log onto another server, apparently no longer bound to that one. Lots of weird stuff happening lately, but clicking respawn seems to fix most of it. -
Randomly spawning on the coast with no gear?
Askar replied to augoosto's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've been having this happen to me a lot, but I've fixed it every time by clicking respawn on the new character then relogging. I always end up with my old character back after 1-2 attempts. -

I've had this bug about 5 times in the past 2-3 days. Sometimes, I randomly log in as a new spawn on the coast, and my other character is nowhere to be found. However, I believe I have found a fix. Log onto the new spawn, and hit "respawn" in the menu. Every time after I've done that, the next time I log in I have my old character back. Hope this helps!
