Lingor Island to be the next official map release? Clearly the people want it!
rmnesbitt@gmail.com posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I have been seeing more and more Lingor Island servers popping up here and there. I think the near future would be a GREAT time to release a new "official" map. It would keep some of us interested while the devs continue to make this game great. It would potentially slow the rate at which people are leaving this game. Just my .02 -
@The Hunger Games - Stay True to the Theme
rmnesbitt@gmail.com posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In my opinion, The Hunger Games (coming up shortly) needs to stay true to the theme of the hunger games. They need to allow for entry into the games and draw names from a hat to determine who is involved in it. On the same foot, I do believe that the major streamers should have a guaranteed spot in the games because of their involvement with the community. I just believe this would make for a much more dynamic gameplay. Some might say, but what if hackers get in. The games will be monitored (i believe) by server admins and a hacker would simply be removed from the games (hopefully before he had a chance to do any damage). This is just my .02 and I would put my name into the pot to be apart of the games. Let me know what you guys think. Would you want to be in the games? -

Tents, A Man's Best Friend (In A Zombiepocalypse)
rmnesbitt@gmail.com posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Personally, the idea of having a tent in the game to store your things is an amazing idea. However, with the map size being so small and the average players per day per server, it is nearly impossible to keep anything more than a few weeks. In a real life situation one would "sleep" in your tent (assuming you have room in their). I would suggest adding a player action (on the scroll menu) that allows one to "sleep" in their tent. This would allow the player to log out with their tent and their gear would be safe. For instance, in a real life situation you may come across a tent in the woods. If you go to loot it you may or may not find someone sleeping inside. This person would then have the option to defend themselves or run screaming (fight or flight). With the current model in game, there is no way to protect our assets of any fashion other than finding "glitchy" ways to hide our tents in hopes nobody finds them. I suggest something like this. Player places tent. Player puts gear in their tent. Player leaves room for their body (say 15 spaces?). Player sleeps in tent. Tent and player log off. Tent and player are safe from looters. The player would have to return to their tent in order to log out and keep it safe. While the player is playing and is away from the tent it is NOT safe and other players can stumble upon it and loot it. If someone was to log out of the server while in combat, they would have abandoned their tent leaving it vulnerable. He would have to log back into the server, run to their tent, and then sleep in it. TLDR: Tents should have an option to "sleep" in them. This would protect the tent from being looted while the player is off. The player would have to be at their tent in order to "sleep". This would punish the people who combat log as they would leave their tents vulnerable.- 23 replies

Tents, A Man's Best Friend (In A Zombiepocalypse)
rmnesbitt@gmail.com replied to rmnesbitt@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Some people just do not get it. I die often. I have started over many times. I find it fun. In no way does my suggestion DEFINITIVELY do anything. It simply protects my assets while I can not. When I am in game roaming around my assets are free to loot. Hell, when I am logged out my tent is still visible, just cant be looted. Someone could easily check back later the next day while I am on and take all of my stuff. You guys seem to be gung-ho about this die forever thing. Why dont we do this. When you die, you can never play again. THAT is perma-death you speak of. The art of respawning on a beach somewhere is in no way realistic just as your rocket parachute is in no way realistic. I am simply asking for some way to protect my assets while I can not. But I am going to drop this case, I can clearly see people are ignorant to what I am trying to say and thus will just give up. DayZ standalone will use Real Virtuality 4 engine!
rmnesbitt@gmail.com replied to oZiix's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I am sorry, i usually do not act this way BUT. You sir have to be an idiot. He clearly points out that #1 he has more control for the standalone as he now works for Bohemia, #2 the new engine handles night time much better. What the h-e-double hockey stick dont you understand. For crying out loud. /endrant PS. Sorry, I usually dont act like that. I promise :P -
Im done, hackers win...

I am shortly behind you my friend. Some people can say they do not care about hackers and tell the rest of us to grow a pair. I would say some of those people ARE the hackers. The rest are just people who enjoy flaming on forums. In my opinion, ARMA 2 is rampant with hackers. Bohemia needs to do something about it. I understand Rocket has very little control over it but Bohemia can step up and say OK we have made multi million dollars off DayZ what can we do to help? Till then, its a useless fight people. Stop complaining, stop flaming THESE forums. Let us all migrate to Bohemia's forums and complain to them|! -

DayZ Standalone Release Before ARMA 3?
rmnesbitt@gmail.com posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I see two ways this standalone can go, first is with ARMA 2 engine and the second is with ARMA 3 engine. Bohemia should be allowing Rocket full control over modifying the engine(s) to his liking for his game. The question is, which engine will he use. I know many people have said ARMA 3 engine, right? Think about this, why would Bohemia Interactive allow Rocket to release DayZ (built on ARMA 3 engine) before ARMA 3? To me this is like putting the cart (dayz) before the horse (arma 3). ARMA 3 isn't scheduled to be released until 2013 but I remember seeing somewhere that DayZ has a planned release for Christmas 2012 (might have been really old information). I dont know, what are your thoughts on it? Would Bohemia allow Rocket to release their engine before they do? Cheers -
DayZ Standalone Confirmed
rmnesbitt@gmail.com replied to griffinz's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I am just hoping for a much larger map. I think the idea behind a single map is good, there just needs to be MUCH more to the map. Something that could take you a night to traverse. Not a boring night of running through the woods tho. A night of high population towns, loot spawn points, etc etc. The game is so much potential I hope Rocket can really tap into it with the standalone. PS. The idea of a 250 player server on a HUGE map is just GODLIKE. I would LOVE to play this. -
Optimized audio settings ?
rmnesbitt@gmail.com replied to extinctsquirrel's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
From my experience, there is no way (in game) to turn down the annoying fence noise and isolate just the weapons / footsteps. All of these are classified as sound fx. -
I know we will get more information in the near future but I can not resist speculation threads. So, what do you guys think the new engine will be? Will it be a brand new engine created solely for DayZ? Will it be a modified ARMA 3 engine for use with DayZ? Those are the only two ways I can see it going. The pros of having a modified ARMA 3 engine is that it will come out FAR sooner than if they start from scratch. However, it may not be as good of a game if they do it that way. If they build an engine from scratch for use with DayZ then the game will be 100% what rocket wants it to be but it could take years for the release. I personally think they will allow Rocket to modify the ARMA 3 engine to his liking for use with DayZ. That is just my .02. What do you guys think?

Shared Map Locations? O_o
rmnesbitt@gmail.com replied to SixTsevN's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In dayz we are all on the same team (blufor) the arma engine was designed so that a team would share map markings. So yes, you showed everyone where you were. Next time just mark a place in the woods completely random and annotate it as "Sasquatch sighting" -

Tents, A Man's Best Friend (In A Zombiepocalypse)
rmnesbitt@gmail.com replied to rmnesbitt@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
There is a very large difference in your approach to the topic and mine. This is a suggestion forum in which I brought a suggestion. Your attitude clearly shows as if you wear it on your e-sleeve. I would engage you in the same manner by stating you are probably the guy who server hops and camps the same building picking off weak prey for kills. But that isn't my style. I understand death. I understand permadeath. I do not understand why we should engage each other on the forums in such a hostile way. Thanks for your comment, your thoughts are noted. PS. My tent idea does not remove the fact that someone CAN loot the tent while I am raiding a town or doing whatever. Also, my tent can be seen although not looted (ie. i am logged out "camping"). That does not mean that the next time I log in someone can not simply go back to my tent to loot it. My point is this, why fill a tent with anything in this current game? It will 100% be gone eventually (weeks at best). By the time you get some nice things, someone has already found it and raided it. The current mechanics do not work so I will second the fact that it should just be removed completely from the game. There should be no stash at all if one can not at least protect it while they are not logged into the game. -
Tents, A Man's Best Friend (In A Zombiepocalypse)
rmnesbitt@gmail.com replied to rmnesbitt@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I did not mean to start a war over reality vs game. I am just saying this. At the current moment, hackers are just respawning with best in slot items. They are playing the game in a manner that is breaking the "spirit" of the game. If they can spawn and hack a full set of gear I (as a legit player) would like to have SOME options to keep my gear safe. Just saying. Also, the current system of tents (in my mind) is like this 90% are hacked tents full of hacked gear anyhow. The oither 10% are empty because people are just looting them like mad crazy. Anyone ever see the tent ESP hack? Yes, it does exist and it shows 100% of the tents on the server regardless of how far away they are. Adding some way to protect my stuff while I am busy IRL to me makes sense. Like someone above posted, I would have a group of people taking shifts sleeping and guarding. Is it possible that a group could sneak up and take us out, you bet it is. But I think we are diving too deep into "reality" with that scenario. TLDR: To me, tents are 100% useless in the current state. I find no reason to put my gear in it as it WILL be looted at some point in time. I have 0 options of keeping my "stash" safe. -

DayZ Standalone Engine?
rmnesbitt@gmail.com replied to rmnesbitt@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No, Rocket should be able to heavily modify the engine to his liking. Thus hopefully killing the ease of which people hack. People will ALWAYS hack. All Rocket can do is make it harder (and more expensive) for people to hack. -
DayZ Standalone Engine?
rmnesbitt@gmail.com replied to rmnesbitt@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Maybe this was before the recent news? I doubt he would use ARMA 3 engine if he was not able to modify it to his liking. But now, as a project lead, I think he has much more control than he did when he was just a mod developer.
