  1. Quit calling everyone some sort of pathetic insult just because they don't share your love and/or appreciation for ArmA - it makes you sound just as ignorant as you claim others to be. He didn't say he refuses to play the game "simply because" it's got a few years under its belt and he certainly didn't make comparisons to any console's performance. He noted the game had some real potential (and that's a good thing, last time I checked) but he also suggested he prefers a game that handles gun mechanics and enemy AI better; that's two quite specific reasons to not be in love with the game that's more than simply saying "wah, it was made in 2009." It's an indication of the limitations of the game, because it's now three years old and, whether you like it or not, game technology does actually improve over years with new versions being made and realised to address these sorts of limitations - it's the entire reason why ArmaA II exists in the first place and why ArmA III is coming soon; if it was purely about new content being released to implement into an 'already perfect' system, you'd be talking about ArmA with simple expansion packs instead.
  2. When you flip an ATV onto its side and can't do anything about putting it back onto its wheels - ATVs are not THAT heavy. Being unable to give yourself a blood transfusion, at any stage of blood loss. Amazing player/zombie running stamina. Even if we want to ignore the issue of player stamina, these zombies are like marathon runners - why isn't there some percentage chance (even if it's very small) to have a zombie's limb fall off from running? It doesn't always have to be a leg, it could even be an arm - rotting corpses should be somewhat more fragile/flimsier than your average healthy, living survivor's body. Being capable of repairing any vehicle, without any technical expertise at all. Hear me out on that last point I just made: whilst I know the current system is the way it is to allow everyone the opportunity to commandeer a salvaged vehicle, I feel it ruins the "realism" element of DayZ - which is what this thread is focusing on (as opposed to whether DayZ is "just a game" or "a simulation" - there's already a thread for that conversation). To me, it's unrealistic to believe that everyone who "survived" the beginning of the zombie apocalypse automatically knows how to repair any vehicle they stumbles across, from a small motorbike and ATV all the way to a helicopter. It would have been nice if there was a process of perhaps trial and error that allowed you to 'hone' the skill of repairing vehicles - you can go and obtain the parts, but the installation process initially could either fail or be partially successful but your novice repair job could result in unexpected malfunction/break-down, requiring you to once again repair the vehicle and thus "learning" over time how to repair vehicles properly and more effectively. Of course, that introduces its own problems, considering the average life expectancy of a typical survivor is under an hour, but since we're already dealing with one fundamentally unrealistic element of the game (which is your character "re-spawning"), perhaps allowing your "learned" repair ability to carry over to your next life wouldn't be out of the question - the difficulty and length of time it takes to successfully learn how to do a high quality repair job on a vehicle could be increased so that the task of trouble-free vehicle repairing doesn't become such a "non-issue" so quickly. I know that my last point could be said for the majority of things currently in the game that actually require technical skill, such as firing most of the weapons in game or certainly being able to fly a helicopter - but those things, I feel, are actually learned over time by the player. For example, not everyone who picks up an AS50 knows how to snipe with it effectively and not everyone who pilots a helicopter does so successfully on their first attempt - some crash and burn horribly in the first few moments of lift-off. People practice with repetition with those things and get better and more effective at it over time. I just don't see any of that happening with something like repairing vehicles, which should be complicated.

  4. You do realise that people would do this in a real-life zombie apocalypse scenario, right? (Hell, people do this in real life even without the threat of surviving from zombies and "scarce" resources being an issue.) For most people, hoarding their valued possessions is a natural human reaction. Yes, wire and traps can be annoying sometimes but it's generally pretty easy to find another way in or to get around/over it. I'm not going to call other players a dick for setting this kind of thing up - especially when you consider that there's plenty of other places to obtain loot and even toolboxes to remove such barriers. I play with the idea that it's okay for players to want to protect and hoard their items and I think that's a more authentic response to the games environment and situation - I don't expect every player to play as if they SHOULD share their earnings with every/anyone just because 'it's the decent thing to do'. If anything, I see these wires and traps as just an added challenge to the game and I see that as a good thing. If they can't use it in the way it's currently being used, how do you propose those items be used otherwise?

    I salute players who are awesome like that hero. I am a hero and I try my hardest to offer assistance to people in need in however way I can - except the last time I offered assistance to a guy who had blood pouring out of him; I asked if he needed me to give him a blood transfusion, he shot my leg and called four of his other friends to come and stand around me and then he finally kept shooting me until I died. All I had for a 'weapon' was an axe - and that was to keep zombies quietly at bay while I rescue others.

  8. Sorry, but no Logitech gaming keyboard is going to get you banned in DayZ for using the G hotkeys tool. Even if that were possible, the scripts being run have to be hacks in order for Battleye, human or otherwise, to flag your account - not just anything being used that had been programmed into the macro recorder. P.S. I own a Logitech G110 and I haven't been banned but that's also because I'm not a hacker.

    I'm not sure how you consider taking ANY weapons from a spawned in box by a hacker as being "legit." Perhaps you should re-acquaint yourself with what the word "legitimate" means. I also never said hacked gold guns or non-DayZ weapons is okay, either - I just called you out on whining about hackers, but also being happy to benefit from their box cache, regardless of the power of the weapons you took. It's like saying it's okay to steal from a store if it's just a candy bar. You obviously still had enough time to abandon the game in the first encounter. Regardless of whether that person was a hacker or not, they were obviously a shit shot and you could have engaged. Instead, you didn't even try. Tell me, what did you have to lose by hanging around and trying to pop a shot off? Your hacker-acquired guns? ;) Don't be silly, I'm not some unreasonable monster without a sense of morality. Mass hacking is unfortunate for everyone involved and the best course of action is often to leave the server and avoid being killed by everyone else who takes up a "every man for himself" reaction to it, if you want to save what time and effort you've spent working on surviving properly. Being dropped from the sky suddenly? Sure, exit away. However, when it's just you freaking out that someone spawned "5 meters in front," after having just finished talking about the loot you took from clearly illegitimate means sounds completely hypocritical and, frankly, hard to even feel sorry for you, on any level. You deserve to die from their hacks, if you're willing to deliberately and consciously benefit from them, too. Then by all means, leave. Surely you'd rather preserve your intelligence than spend it trying to insult me (and others) on an internet forum, no? I'm called you out on it because you took hacked gear on purpose. Don't like scripters? Don't take their shit on purpose. It's as simple as that. Being that you are someone who has been "playing this since it came out," surely you would be able to identify, by now, what weapons and items are hacked and what aren't and whether they were placed there legitimately. If you want to play the game for what it should be without scripties, then do it and stop crying about how you benefited from them but don't want to die once you did. Blown4Six, as much as I'm sure we all appreciate staring at hypnotic GIF images, just stop.

    So, you've made a thread about scripters being everywhere, yet you took their hacked goods? Sounds like a real hard life you've had. I don't care how you exit the game - via the menu or via Alt+F4 is still cheap and wussing out of combat, no matter which way you slice it. It also deprives the other player of the fire fight (and subsequent kill, if they win) that they deserve an opportunity of having. Other than them "appearing in front of you" and you freaking out, there's no other proof that these players you encountered are hackers. Well, other than your insinuation that geared players couldn't ever have possibly either a.) been geared like that in the first place, b.) had been logged out in the same place as you and had just logged in (it is possible, I mean, that's what you did, right?) or c.) simply being better than you at sneaking up onto you and taking you out. You can't be looking in EVERY direction at the same time. You go log out for the night. DayZ severs need less "better quit the game before I die because I saw a player" people around, anyway.

    I know some of you have said that the OP is now part of the problem, not the solution, and/or that the hackers have ruined the game for the OP, I think they have simply diverted the path of the OP's current life. Instead of letting him die, only to return as a fresh spawn who prays he finds an axe quickly, they have given him the opportunity to resume his current life and attempt to hunt down and kill bandits. No one ruins the game for him but himself - they haven't forced him to do anything with the equipment, they left it there for his own moral decisions to be made. The OP decides if he takes anything or not and how he chooses to use it - it doesn't make him immune from other experienced and patient players, either. I know we're trying to talk about playing a game without hackers, but considering that this is currently not possible, at least we're seeing the rise of some friendly and interesting hackers, instead of pathetic scum that take your time and effort away from you without even giving you the choice. These guys took nothing from OP and left him the choice to go along as he was before they arrived, or to take the present and create his own journey with it. If I'm going to have to deal with hackers, these are the kind I'd rather encounter, any day.

    You're right, there usually is hackers no matter what game you play but if you're going to run away from games just because there's hackers, why bother playing any game? I'm not saying that you aren't allowed to leave the game, because that decision is yours alone to make. I just find it a bit disappointing to read that someone is so willing to give up a game they love for a reason like this. Almost all of us have been affected by hacking at one stage or another and, for the most part, it's about finding a server with diligent admin who can help keep on top of banning and reporting things to Battleye, etc. The servers I play on (managed by the same admin) has been so on top of hacking that it has reduced dramatically - Battleye picks up a lot, too, before it happens. That's nto to say hacking is non-existent on those servers, but it's far less common than it was a few weeks/months ago. I'm not saying that being hacked is this joyful experience and that you shouldn't hate it. I know the feelings you go through when your time is essentially thrown in the bin. Having said that, the times when I log in and achieve what I wanted to do with friends (or solo) without being interrupted by hackers (or managing to best them, despite their hacking attempts), have been that much more awesome and glorious. There are good servers out there, with some pretty good admin out there who want to ensure players have a good, hack-free (as much as possible) experience - you just have to do a bit of shopping around, before you consider all of them "not playable." One must be a very unfortunate player if a tree or chicken has managed to break legs or kill. Ironic, really, that you tell people not to dare tell others they're stupid for their own opinion, yet you spread your own like it's a "fact." Just because you consider the game not worth playing any more does not make it a fact. Speak for yourself, next time.

    I have been able to join my usual servers without difficulties and loading didn't take painfully long, either. I guess only time will tell if I begin to desync with the server, but so far at the moment my friend and I are playing without any issues.
