A long, logical approach to the "Bandit Problem"

You can't put tents inside, I kind of hope we get another sort of stash item, one we can place inside buildings, especially on the second levels etc.

Honestly I see the best system for punishing bandits to be related to a possible mission system or the retaking of towns. Say if rocket did implement retaking towns, NPCs would spawn to protect it, you'd get a vendor you could trade tins of food / water for ammunition or something similar. The NPCs wouldn't talk to bandits and the guards would warn bandit players away before simply opening fire if they approached too closely. Bandits in turn would attempt to destroy these reclaimed outposts since they'd probably be amazing places for a raid. As a bandit, I would love to see it. Maybe even give a chance to create a "bandit" outpost, it has less survivability against Zed hordes and isn't viable for long term survival but it'd be a great place to get harder to find gear at (comparatively) exorbitant prices. The only requirement to enter is to have one murder to your name. -
A ten to fifteen second logout timer fixes this. Problem solved, next.

Temperature isn't the problem... it's starvation.
Karko (DayZ) replied to Luieburger's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Food and water drop way too fast now. Temperature is a good idea but too painful in it's current form. Keep the drop rate of matches, remove the requirement for wood piles and dramatically slow the rate of temperature lowering at night and slow it just a little during the rain. The rate it recovers at a camp fire is good, being inside buildings needs a boost to recovery. -
I'm a bandit and I don't have a soul... (Killings)
Karko (DayZ) replied to StealthyBrayden's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I love these kinds of tactics. Me and a few friends have done this before, we usually do it when were retrieving people from the shoreline after they've died and it's never failed to be entertaining. Another good one for veteran servers, kill a beaner by the shoreline, drop a flare on their body then find a concealed spot that you can watch from. Start spamming chat with requests for assistance on that location, say you're currently unconcious from low blood and you need help. Stay alert and watch for people either coming to "your" aid or to finish you off, kill them as they approach. It usually isn't good for repeat performances but it can be a laugh. -
Bandit Brothers/ Call to Arms
Karko (DayZ) replied to vivalarazala's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think you miss the entire point of being a bandit. It has nothing to do with any code, any kind of brotherhood, that's a short sighted and ultimately downright stupid romantic view of it. The simple fact is that bandits are scum who take what they want when they want, regardless of consequences. It's the act of a bully, it's senseless, it's stupid and it's all too human. It's also damn fun. Anyway, make this secret code, post it on the forums, if I ever meet someone else who displays it, I know who to kill next. -

I love this thread, keep them coming.

Awesome pictures.

Picture it now. Two seater Gyrocopters piloted by bandits, the passenger able to fire his gun freely, moving up and down the coastline hunting beaners. It would be beautiful.

I wasn't going to agree at first but after watching that video, I want a gyrocopter.

North Chernarus Militia to begin operations on Oceania Servers!

So far I've yet to see a single NCM member, I spent a few days around the NWAF and Starry with no luck, bagged more than a few survivors. Spent the last few days in and around Cherno, not a single encounter. You're letting me down NCM. -
Favorite weapon for getting Survivor's jimmies in a rustle.

Silenced weapons only. You need them to panic and not realize where the shots are coming from. -
How to make Survivors trust you?
Karko (DayZ) replied to matheusvltt's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I usually just ask for help nearby while staying out of sight, if it's at night I'll even throw a few flares down away from my position to lure them towards me. I'm not just hunting survivors though, the point is to lure bandits there too, they usually can't resist the idea of a survivor dropping flares along the coast. It was this tactic that actually won me my NVG's when a bandit went to loot the corpse sitting next to a flare I'd dropped. -

Bandits..You're wrong to think that all survivors are stupid
Karko (DayZ) replied to bjarnidk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Bandits aren't better than survivors because of their play style, they're simply more dangerous because of their lack of qualms. A survivor might stop before shooting another player, a bandit won't. The lack of restraint is a powerful thing when it's every man for himself. This same outlook is also the bandits biggest weakness, the arrogance that they're somehow "better" than the other players or that they don't "need" anyone else will always be their downfall. I discovered very early on that whenever I got cocky or every time I started thinking I was untouchable that I would be dead within the hour, this game shouldn't punish selfish murdering bandits but it should punish arrogance, something it already does. -
Bandits don't get punished, Survivors do...
Karko (DayZ) replied to leblackdragon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If I see another survivor and I don't shoot, I can guarantee they will attempt to kill me for my NVGs and silenced rifle. Could I avoid trouble by staying far north? Easily but it'd be a far harder life than hiding in Cherno. Chernogorsk has almost everything I need and the few things it lacks are carried there by the constant traffic through. -
Long term survival is pointless
Karko (DayZ) replied to VossRG's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've survived inside Cherno without issue for the last couple of days, it's a pretty boring town but the constant traffic keeps me well stocked, the secret is NVGs, a silenced rifle and the patience to wait for dinner to come to you. I haven't looted a single building since arriving, just hung around my vantage point and ambushed the unwary or unprepared. The moments when I'm scurrying off my hideout to loot their bodies is worrying, I'm sure I'll eventually get caught off-guard while looting but for now I've managed without issue. -
-A Short Bandit Survey for the Bored-

.: So why have you chosen to walk the path of “darkness"(was it for the beans =p?) This is a bad question. .: Lets talk about tactics, what are yours? Ambush tactics, sneak attacks and NVG coupled with Silenced weaponry for maximum effect. .: Do you prefer to hunt alone or in a pack? Group .: Your preferred hunting ground(s)? Starry Sobor and Berezino .: What are your weapons of choice? Silenced M4 .: Your greatest strength as a Bandit? This is another bad question. .: Now how about a weakness of yours, come on everyone has one? This is an even worse one. .:Lastly, how about telling us your greatest moment(s) as a Bandit of Chernarus? Knee-capped two newbies scavenging chern, used a smoke nade to draw a horde down on them. That was really it. -
This code is pointless. It's every man for himself and that's the end of it.

to all the people who whine and moan about scopes/NVG/balance
Karko (DayZ) replied to seannybgoode's topic in New Player Discussion
I've found that every time I start to get cocky I die within the hour. Playing it safe isn't just a guide, it's a strict code to follow at all times. -
