-loot spawns on server restart only. Typically the coastal towns have already been hit, so it's best to just find a water pump, fill up, and head inland. -Default interaction keys are middle mouse button or F, but you should be able to rebind it to what you like. I wouldn't use LMB though as you may fire every time you open a door with gun ready. -It's the same as the Mod only with no private hives. There are servers that broke the rules and have been disconnected, but for the most part the decent servers all transfer.

Yellow chain doesn't mean there are players nearby, it just means you are desyncing with the server. The red chain means you're having connection problems. If you're looping an animation, you're desyncing hard. Relog and try again, or find a different server.

Respawning on server with no loot.
herrjon replied to SpanishAssasson's topic in New Player Discussion
A widely known issue, it's being worked on. My advice? Don't server hop. -
I'm not sure of the exact fix, but be sure to try different stances and running speeds, spamming vault is always good. Try doing an action as well, such as eating something or what have you. Sometimes fixed some mod issues. If you do lose your gear in the end, that's just DayZ. Just remember not to log off in buildings.

Need Medical Assistance in DayZ SA ? Find Your medic here!

We actually have a few guys with O- that we milk every so often, but we'll have to go a bit harder after that yeah. We'll take donors, but we'll need to test you on site, so we don't have a troll saying he's O- poison our supply with AB+. -
How do you manage a large group of new survivors
herrjon replied to Brethren Develain's topic in New Player Discussion
Well, if your using teamspeak specifically, I know of a fix, but I assume there are similar functions on other programs. Whatever you do, you do need to break up into small groups in separate channels. In teamspeak you can set up whisper lists, either to specific people or specific channels. You'd have your squad leads set up a whisper with each other, and you could also have each member set up a whisper to the other channel if they need to speak, like identifying if a player is someone from the other squad. This will still allow all necessary comms across the group but keep all the banter and chatter to a minimum. In terms of moving about and utilizing all bodies, I'm not the best person to ask and I probably run a different type of outfit, but it usually breaks down to a scout group, an overwatch, and a main assault team or teams. You'll want to avoid thinning things down so one person is alone, there's power in numbers and you can move about and react so much better when you've got 2 sets of eyes, 2 bodies moving, and 2 guns to use at different sections. Overwatch can be one person if needed, but it's better to have a spotter for a second set of eyes and any close range engagements overwatch may need to have. -
Question Regarding Grey Screen/Low Health
herrjon replied to Khan84's topic in New Player Discussion
If you're planning on just waiting for the regen, you're going to have to eat and drink a lot more. You start getting messages when your water falls below 2000 and your energy (food) falls below 600. For light regeneration (1 blood/sec) you need 3000 water and 3500 energy. For full regeneration (3 blood/sec) you need 3500 water and 5000 energy. You will know when you've hit this point when it says either healthy or healing in your inventory screen. A full canteen of water gives you 1000 water, and a full can of beans give you 462 energy and 330 water. You'll have to eat 10 cans of beans past getting the hunger messages in order to obtain full regeneration. Rice is the best way to gain energy (3740 per bag), but you need to drink an entire canteen of water just to counteract the negative water a full bag of rice causes. Be aware as well, if you eat and drink too much in one sitting, you can stuff your stomach (a separate container) and eventually vomit if you go too far. You can have someone give you the proper blood or a saline bag and restore your blood, but your health will still be low. Your health is what really kills you, and only returns through regeneration. Your health will not regen however until your blood is full. I recommend watching these videos for further information http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/159251-merinos-in-depth-video-guides-updated-jan-15th-understanding-sicknesses-and-surviving-poisoning/ -
Well I treat everyone the same, in a friendly manner but assume they will always try to make a move. I get what you mean about judging character off gear, but you can't take it too much to heart. Things like the gas mask and ballistic helmet provide a health benefit that can be needed in some cases. And typically the military gear is the most efficient way of maximizing inventory space, save for the mountain backpacks vs. the hunting backpacks. Me, I currently have a ballistics helmet for the protection, and I opted for a respirator over the gas mask, so I at least have .8 biological, compared to the 1.0 from the gas mask. I keep the glasses off. I have the typical military pants and vest, and I have a red mountain backpack and a pink hoodie, because fashion is more important than camo :P I have the fireaxe, because no survivor goes without one, and a Mosin with long range scope an bayonet. I always try to stick with empty hands to be non-threatening, but some may see me take out the axe to dispatch zeds. I really only use the Mosin as binos atm. I don't even have it loaded, and would willingly let people pick it up and look at it to confirm this. I do have loose ammo for it I can load incase I do need to react long range or be a bodyguard for a fellow medic, but I leave it out of the gun for previously stated reason, and so I have no temptation to shoot, as I have to consciously load the gun. I do keep a loaded magnum in the vest however, incase someone tries to betray my trust and kill me, but I usually don't give them that option. Haven't had to pull it out yet.

Well water you can get pretty easily, but food can be rough if your luck is bad. If you check out the town you spawned at, and find a lot of the doors open and houses fairly empty, chances are it's been picked clean of anything useful. So get yourself a shirt, drink up, and rush inland. It may be better, or worse down the road. Loot tables are constantly changing, as are the loot mechanics. We'll just have to see what the future brings.
-
Food belongs in your belly, not your backpack. And 600 rounds is a bit overkill. You won't need that until they actually have enough enough zeds to be a horde.
-
It is a bit clumsy, but will only improve as time goes on I think. It's worse in the mod since Arma was never really too worried about indoor mechanics, as most battles took place outside. I still hate playing on the different mods that feature the medium barracks (lingor island, panthera, etc) that have certain doorways you can't get through unless you wiggle or vault through them.

Stay away from Rify. The press vest isn't worth it. That's about the only dumb way I've died, that and early on drinking too much pond water.
-
Protip from a seasoned medic, if they are conscious, have your patient empty their hands (lower weapon in mod) and go into a sitting position (F3 SA, ' mod) and then administer aid. If they want to make a move, it'll take them a good 2-3 seconds to stand up, get a weapon ready, and aim properly. In that time you can either warn them to sit back down, finish up or cancel the animation and react. Preferably have them facing away as well. Having someone else there whom you trust running security as well can help immensely. Until we can open each others backpacks I wouldn't trust trying to give people the meds, lost too much gear to the void by putting it in vicinity.

Player moaning and groaning plus grey scale
herrjon replied to drayson's topic in New Player Discussion
Did the zombie encounter cause you to bleed? Did you use rags? What's we've encountered with the moaning is if you bandage with rags, the wounds are unclean, causing pain and infection. This causes the groaning and some health issues. If that's the case you need to clean the wound with alcohol or just let your body fight through it over time. Usually a relog will get rid of the groaning, but you'll still have unclean wounds. Apart from that, for getting your blood up, you need to get to a healthy/healing status for regen to kick in. That means eating/drinking even more until you get that status in your inventory menu. You need 3000 water and 3500 energy for slow regeneration (1 blood/sec), and 3500 water and 5000 energy for full regeneration (3 blood/sec). As a baseline, you get thirst messages at 2000 water and hunger messages at a mere 600 energy. A full canteen give you 1000 water, and a full can of beans gives you 462 energy. In order to reach regenerative amounts, you'd need to eat 7 cans of beans for light regeneration, or 10 cans of beans for full regeneration BEYOND the hunger messages. And you of course need to keep eating and drinking as you move around to maintain this status. I suggest checking out these videos if you want more information in video form with diagrams and charts. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/159251-merinos-in-depth-video-guides-updated-jan-15th-understanding-sicknesses-and-surviving-poisoning/ If you'd like to get healed up more quickly, you can come to TMW. Our teamspeak is ts.tmwdayz.com. We can give you some saline and give you enough food/water to get your regening so you can get your health back. -
how long will take from unconscious to wake up?
herrjon replied to gamer222's topic in New Player Discussion
It's until your shock level goes below your blood level. I'm not sure of quickly it decays, but if you're healthy it should be relatively quick. However if you're under 500 blood, you're unconscious until you get blood/saline. When you're at that point as well, not even a defib or epi-pen will wake you up. -
Quick Question About Day Z Commander and the Mods
herrjon replied to kd11080's topic in New Player Discussion
Download whichever ones you want to play. They're all separate mods that aren't reliant on each other. -
I think it's more so that we're all connected, and can play together without losing anything. Instead of a bunch of little private hive communities, Rocket wants one big DayZ community. Since even after more optimization and such we'll probably only be able to stably support 50-60 players per server, the servers are connected so we are all connected. I find this helpful for the way I play since I like to help people. With private hives, I have to go to their server, gear up, and travel to them. Takes a lot longer, and creates another character that I probably won't use. There's also the permadeath point. One database, one life you have to worry about it. You lose them you lose everything, instead of just 1/10 of everything. Sure you could just stick to one server, but if that server is unplayable at any point, tough luck I guess. Yes having a public hive creates problems, but these problems can be fixed, just give them time. Private hives aren't free from problems either, just different problems. I like they way things are. They will probably allow private hives at some point as they said, and those that prefer private can go there, but I'll be on the public.

Should be a setting somewhere, but don't I don't recommend using skype in general.

Not numerous? Not successfully you say? http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/160262-need-medical-assistance-in-dayz-sa-find-your-medic-here/ http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/99986-need-medical-assistance-in-the-mod-find-a-medic-here/ http://www.reddit.com/r/RedditRescueForce There was also another TMW thread for helping in the mod, was about 100 some pages long, but it was deleted because it was so big, it lagged the entire forum. I can't speak to RRF's success, but TMW has has hundreds upon hundreds of successfully healed people since we started in the mod, as well as all the randoms we run into and help. Since SA started up, we've been getting a steady average of 4-5 patients a day. As for how many of us are there, our list of current members since the start is nearly 200 names long, with a waiting list of people wanting to join. That's not including our trusted members or our old whitelisted medic system. So yes, lots of people are being the hero and successfully helping other. You just have to know how to do it, and not be afraid of losing your stuff if you mess up. You may find of lot of people don't want to KoS, they won't shoot if you don't give them a reason to.

Need Medical Assistance in DayZ SA ? Find Your medic here!
herrjon replied to TMWMarijke's topic in General Discussion
In the future, if you're seeking medical help, it's best to stay logged out (if you can) and keep yourself out of danger until a medic can help. And going straight to the TS is the quickest way to get help. -
Merino's In-Depth Video Guides (Feb 11th: Updated to 0.34.115106 New Status Indicators, Rebalancing of Hunger, Thirst, Stomach, Blood and Health Reg)
herrjon replied to (TMW) Merino's topic in New Player Discussion
Part of it is in the game files, and the other part is from copious amounts testing in game, with many Merino corpses piling up. -
Not at all. All "I'm friendly" means is they don't want you to shoot/attack them. People can be dicks all they want if you let them. Saying friendly doesn't turn friendly fire off between the two of you. All it would've taken is staying behind the cover of the stairs and the wall, asking for the guy to empty his hands (you'd do the same if you have anything) then let him drop his stuff he needs administered, pick it up, get behind him and do the thing. If he doesn't empty hands are starts coming down to you, then you book it out of there and forget about him. If he makes a move while you try to help him, just run for it while all he has is fists, or knock him out yourself. That's of course disregarding the BS story of "can you heal me? I have a medkit" since first aid kits just give you bandaids, a syringe, water tablets, empty blood bag, and iv kit. Sure he could risk you giving him blood, but without test kits, it's a loosing gamble. I've been at this awhile.
-
Not sure if that was actually you OP, or just a random vid, but if you're going to administer anything on someone, at least have them empty their hands before coming out of cover. Don't just stroll up to them while they follow you with their gun, of course they're going to kill you.
