Usual code of conduct when dealing with a troll thread is to spam it until it gets yarded or wiped. And with that, I'm out

Should be interesting assuming there will be medical related stuff. Would give us more of reason to protect the medic to the extent we do beyond our O- cows. I just hope they don't screw it up, as I've seen plenty of skill systems flop. Also, for the gender poll, I voted female because screw polls.

You should keep those in your stomach

When binoculars are implemented, will the zoom feature be disabled?
herrjon replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
You mean the "zoom" feature that lets you see 1x magnification? It's simply just real sight, whereas the "un-zoomed" sight is actually less than 1x. Even not considering that, binos would zoom in considerably more. Under your argument, what would we the point of having sniper scopes or ACOG and the like in Arma? People can zoom in while aiming down iron sights. -
It all depends, sometimes I'd just hop on for 15-30 minutes to travel or loot a bit, usually spend 30 minutes to an hour at most for a patient, and general gameplay I've gone as long as 12-14 hours, with food/alcohol breaks of course. That was back in the mod, but I know once I've got bases to take care of I definitely could get lost in the game again and let the hours fly by.

If you can't distinguish a silhouette from 200m away, you need some glasses or something. The human eye is actually quite powerful. Sure you wouldn't be able to say how tall someone was 800m away or their eye color or anything, but assuming there's nothing in the way, there's no chance you wouldn't see them and identify them as a person after focusing.(assume you have proper corrective vision) As others have said due to limitations of FoV and draw distance and such, this was the compromise to allow us to see things as close to our actual eyes can do without tunneling out view.

Common problem, you'll hear zeds when there aren't any and won't hear them when you have a horde. Just bugs with the ambient noises, it's being worked on.

Yeah, overall try not to keep anything important in your pants. If you do anything though, don't put your only stick of morphine in your pants. Kind of defeats the purpose.

Should the dot crosshair be removed from hardcore servers?
herrjon replied to ztranger's topic in General Discussion
I don't use it for aiming with weapons, it's needed for looting to tell exactly what the game decides you're "looking at". If they increase the radius that we can pick things up at, or allow us to raise up a hand to actually grab thing (most immersive and complicated option) I'd be all for removing the crosshair. -
That does work too, but in term of fixes via items it's morphine.

It isn't just rocket working on the game. It's a dev team. The folks working on zeds and animations and such are working hard, but you may not see updates on the public servers until they get a full working model they're happy which. In the meantime the other folks can roll out their updates because that's the nature of what they're working on. Contrary to popular belief, the dev team does know what they are doing and are aware of the problems, especially the big ones like zeds. It'll come, just give it time.
-
They do absolutely nothing at this time. If your character is moaning, it won't help. The actual fix for that is morphine/splint but it's honestly a waste of those just fix that. Obviously they will have a use, just not now. Keep your eyes on the patch notes.

Concretely: what differs the pro from the noob?
herrjon replied to MarchmelloMan's topic in New Player Discussion
At least for me, it's really hard to put my fingers on what I do that allows me to survive so much easier than other folks. I'll do my normal survival stuff but I've also gone in the big cities on a 35 player server while hearing gunshots and meeting people, and I was still able to survive just fine and find enough loot to get by. It just comes down to overall experience in looting and moving around safely. I mean if I truly was wanting to survive, I'd stay out of the big cities at least until I've gotten food and drink from small towns and know that no one is there. Because of how loot works, if someone has been through the whole area, all you have left to take is what they left behind, which typically doesn't include food. Basically you head inland towards smaller towns, get some basics like clothing and food, and find a water pump. Once you're set up that way, depending on where your at, head to an airstrip, military base, or city for a weapon if you haven't found one yet. This process only takes an hour or two, and if luck is on your side, you'll be set. Oh, and if it comes to a point where your inventory is full, don't carry disinfectant spray, alcohol tincture, antibiotics, pain killers, syringes, water purification tablets, matches, firewood, and any cooking gear. None of those are currently doing anything right now and are just a waste of space. -
Need Medical Assistance in DayZ SA ? Find Your medic here!
herrjon replied to TMWMarijke's topic in General Discussion
That is correct. There was 2 infact, however the first one had to be removed as it was lagging the entire forum due to its size. This isn't really an issue anymore, just a bit of flak from people who like to flame threads. I think the fact that this thread is decently big already, with all the positive experiences being posted, and the fact that we probably get 3-4 times more patients simply coming into the teamspeak shows that we are truly helping people and deserve the pin. -
About Food/Thirst! For the noobs who cry cause the hungry/thirst thing always pops up!

Why would you even want a gun? It just puts a target on your back. Anyways, there are residential places that spawn guns, however the military has guns, so if you want guns, you go to military buildings. Just stock up on supplies, plan out your route, and carefully loot an airfield.

[Guide] How not to lose your gear: The Wise/Coward Way?
herrjon replied to StayAlive (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Or, you could not get into a fight or at least not get hit. Better than losing your gear to a server restart that you don't know is coming. -
It'll happen at the most random of times in the most random of places. I ran into a guy in Msta on a 5 player server. We just exchanged out surprise of seeing each other in a small town in the middle of nowhere and parted ways. Stop looking and you'll find it.

I think you're diminishing the importance of being able to see far away things better than what your eyes can, especially in an open area such as Chernarus. Sure things such as a compass, map, and hatchet do more for your general survival, but in the DayZ setting, those who see things first win the day typically. It's actually the only reason I carry a mosin with a LRS, simply to be used as binos. I don't even carry ammo for the thing. Anyways, I'm more than certain binos are on the docket, which is why it maybe hasn't been discusses very much, since it's a sure thing. Just wish it would come sooner rather than later.

Some people may be playing on there, but we can't make any promises. -
Loot doesn't "cycle" until server restart. There has also been an issue of late where certain buildings no longer spawning loot, and the devs are unsure why (such as the military tents). It could also be that your usual mod spots of changed what sort of loot they spawn, such as the firehouse. Just keep looking and exploring, you'll find one.

What sort of player are you on DayZ? *QUIZ*
herrjon replied to Flagella's topic in General Discussion
That's just automated questions generated by the website that can't be removed I believe. They're just polling to see who's taking the quiz, it doesn't factor into the results. -
I've been doing some experiments on populated servers to see what "bandits" really do to a fresh spawn. So far I had one guy chase after me with a pipe wrench all across Berezino and even jumped off the pier after me, only to angrily log out when he realized he couldn't kill me. Next There was a guy waiting in a building, gun pointed at me and told me to stop. He didn't shoot on sight so I stopped, raised my hands (f2) and told him I won't try anything. He shot and killed me anyways and then said "sorry man". Is it sad I just want to get handcuffed and robbed? Some of the more intense experiences I had in the mod were the actual bandits didn't just shoot on sight but actually attempted to interact with me. Yeah you can't always do it, and yeah it's safer to just shoot, but is someone running around with no shirt, a fire extinguisher and pink baseball cap really that threatening 25 meters away? Take a chance people, it'll be a better experience for everyone.
