Good 'ol bloodbag with a side of mophine, gets me up and going thats for sure.

It's just hilarious how clueless this guy is, that or he's trying so hard to piss people off. I went and read through his "first adventure", people said to go North, get off the coast, etc., he aknowledges it, and what does he do his next playthough? Swims to an island! Also the fact that he's a hardcore ARMA player, but didn't know about the swimming thing. And as mentioned, didn't just manually install the game himself, since he's computer god. Good laugh to end the night on, lemme tell ya.
-
XD Thanks for the laugh mate. The game probably wasn't for you anyways, which is fine, it caters to a specific group. Have fun with what you will do with your precious spare time, good luck in all your future endvours. Although, I probably won't see you alive in the event of a disaster, shame for that.

You'd think with 5 to a team one of them would be halfway decent, but nope. What's even more hilarious is CoD players going to TF2 and running around on the frontlines with a sniper using SMG.
-
Yeah, for this sniping only makes a lot of sense in groups. Either to be a lookout/initiator while the raid team cleans up, or counter sniping as previously mentioned. And of course, as long as FPS's exist, there will always be people that play nothing but sniper, for no good reason. TF2 is a wonderful example of this, if you've ever experienced this.

lol No, I don't get mad because I realize this is an alpha game and shouldn't get attached to my gear/character. I also did my research on this game before even buying ARMA II, knowing full well there is lots of crawling through towns and running through forests, and that there are plenty of hostle players to avoid. The lack of gun at the start did suprize me, since all videos I had seen talked about starting with Makarov, but I accepted it and adjusted, as you should in a survival situation. As for the update, welcome to PC Gaming.

Maybe you should hop on servers when it it's night in their area then? That's just how the game works, it's your fault you picked that server. Swimming issue, that's intended, part of the ARMA II engine. Just look here http://dayzwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Known_Bugs "Swimming causes you to lose some or all of your inventory ARMA2 Feature, items fall to bottom of water and can be re-obtained. Server admins may disable that"

You have to remember this is still in Alpha, very buggy and subject to change. Just go to youtube and look up DayZGuides, he'll show you how to do everything.

Didn't mean "best bet" as in safest choice, moreso highest probability. I'd still recommend doing a Cherno run if you spawn South or Berezino run if you spawn East, just to get food, drinks, and medical stuff. Guns are easy to find up North, blood bags, not so much.
-
Sounds like you had a good first experience. I'm still a bit new myself, haven't ran into any "friendlies" yet, but I've had fun running around up North. Got killed a few times by players I didn't see, but such is the way of the North. I do enjoy to lone wolf playstyle, but if you need an extra set of eyes for a raid or something, hit me up. I won't backstab you, I have no intent on killing anyone.

I may have underestimated the difficulty of this game
herrjon replied to Shamz's topic in New Player Discussion
Yes, as I mentioned, buildings with two doors works great, just run through and crouch run away as they try to search for you. Other than that, find two bushes or low trees close to each other, run through them, and crouch run away. I've even ran in log cabins and proned behind the table, but I think that was b/c it was still dark out. -

Yeah, get into the treeline and scout for barns and deer stands, you should be able to get at least a tier 1 gun. If you do loot a city, just run through and lose Zeds in buildings with 2 doors. I honlestly wouldn't fire a gun in town, draws a bunch of Zeds, and also alerts other players to your existance. Just scout out the town for a few minutes, see if there's an open spot with no Zeds you can sneak in, then prone and use alt + turn to look around you without moving. Abuse third person if you can/need. -
I personally am going to try and avoid killing other players. This may come as a challenge and a test of character soon enough though, since I prefer to hang out up north, and that's where people almost always shoot on site. You're free to choose the game however you want, and how you feel you'll survive the best. No need to kill others, at least unprovoked.

Yeah, morphine "fixes" broken bones. They are scattered in differently places, but a hospital is your best bet, you can also grab some bloodbags for you and your buddies. http://dayzdb.com/map This is the best map imo. Shows you where all the loot is and what not, and of course has town names, elevations, all that good stuff. Just pay attention to when you log in and it tells you where you are, from there just use the map, find a good mid point, and meet up.
-
That seems strange, but it is still in Alpha, so there will be bugs. Just use the loot map and find a deer stand or barn for a reliable gun. Also, castles have been good to me so far. I would stay away from Devi's Castle, but the other two could be good places to stop and loot.
-
That seems odd. Maybe people just agroed them out of town, dunno. They will only spawn around buildings and the heli crash, so no in the forest, unless you pull them there. I know my last northern adventure I could've sworn I was following right behind someone, since there was only a handle full of zeds and basically no loot in every town I went through.
-
Would you rather have a full stock of supplies and be hunted by bandits from the start? If you can't handle finding a single barn or deer stand, I'm afraid you wouldn't last very long IRL. Anyone with half a brain can get tier 1 guns and supplies to last a few hours within the first 30 minutes of spawning.
-
http://dayzdb.com/map Best map imo. Shows you where all the loot piles could be, what could spawn there, and how much protection they'll have. Edit: Also, you can find your location when you log in, there are also road signs and land marks you can use. It's not that hard once you know what you're doing.

How long can you survive w/o food/water?
herrjon replied to robertg's topic in New Player Discussion
Yeah, it take awhile, and much longer if you're crouch running, which you should be doing anyways. I feel dying of thirst and hunger should happen much easier, needed to focus more on food and water than weapons, but then we'd need beans and a soda on the shore to get started. At least have detramental effects when low on either, such as inability to run, passing out, etc. -
My honest opinion of Day Z (And message to the creator)
herrjon replied to d4rk51d3x's topic in New Player Discussion
Sort of, but if you do kill a player with good gear, you can steal it and they start with nothing. There's no levels persay, just good gear and ok gear, you can get good gear by finding it or killing those that have it. It's also easier to avoid other players than OP makes it out to be. Just avoid the coast and don't walk in a straight line in open areas. You do also have to scout every major area you wish to enter, for both players and zombies, but this is realistic. Just don't listen to OP, he's just complaining it wasn't a cake walk from the get go. Use online loot maps and stay off the coast if you don't want much PvP. Just don't go clear North (NW Airfield and Stary Sobor specifically) right away, that's where large squads and experienced players that don't take part in noob hunting in the coast hang out. And up North, everyone shoots on site, and with good reason. -
So I'm still fairly new, just started a few days ago. Going with the lone wolf style for now, at least until I bump into someone to team up with, which would be very unlikely. I learned pretty quickly the coast is newbie hunting ground. I then headed inland to the north only to find out that's where everyone has great gear and shoots on sight regardless. I'd loved to live off the land and only enter towns I know are safe to enter or at least I know I can handle a firefight, but I can't live off farms and outskirt sheds. So my question is then, where are some moderately safe areas I can loot until I get all the hunting gear + canteen? I remember seeing a thread about Krasnoskov being a nicer area, but is this true and is there other areas like this? Also, is Devil's Castle hit up by a lot of people? It's the last castle I have to visit and I'd just like to know what to expect.

Hense the quotes around the word.

Cant even get close to a town without being killed?
herrjon replied to Wheatleyy's topic in New Player Discussion
If you don't want to be "hardcore", use the loot map http://dayzdb.com/map#2.086.068 Tells you which buildings are entereable and what kind of loot spawns there. General rule, if you can see in the windows, you can enter. Stick to the outskirts if you have no weapon, and be sure to prone through most of it if you see Zeds. Also make sure to alt + turn so you can see around you without turning your body. Abuse third-person for extra help. Also never fire a Lee or a shotgun in town, it's basically a death sentence. There's also DayZGuides on youtube, shows you a safeish run through Cherno and Elektro if you need it. -
That's the conclusion that I've come to. It took me about 3 tries to finally get to NW Airfield, learning to not include Stary Sobor in my route, and when I got up there, I found 2 dead bodies and what I would guess was a sniper since I just fell over and died while I was still at 6k blood. I still want to do a good solo raid there (I like a challenge) but I should probably wait until I get something better than a Lee with 5 shots and no binocs. Plan of action based on suggestions is do a Berezino run, hit up the deer stands around it, go to Krasnoskav if needed. Then if I still don't have hunting gear, either stay over there or head west and bounce between Vybor and Pustoshka, depending on what guns I have. Then once I can live in the forest, camp north of the Airfield and super scout out the right time to move in. Hopefully I can get a tent to stash the hunting gear in, so if I do die I can recover. If that sound really foolish let me know, but I think I know how to travel up north now, it's just the coasts that scare me. One last question (for now). How benefitial is it to loot a hospital as a solo player? I can't use bloodbags on myself, I seem to find bandage frequently elsewhere, same with pain pills, and last go through I had 3 morphine. Just doesn't seem worth the trouble considering you have to break the glass and draw attention to yourself.
-
Would be quite interesting I suppose. I know I freaked out when I heard the music that sounds like a car approaching and the engine then shutting off. I was probably prone under a tree for a good 15-20 min until I knew there never really was anyone there.
