  1. Well if you don't care about staying in character, you can go somewhere close to the coast, kill yourself (draw agro) and then re spawn and loot your body. Now if you want to stay to the RP, you'll have to wait for someone to show up for a bit. If there's global chat, even better, just don't give away your exact location. That or get a friend to come help.

    My first experience in Dayz

Sounds like a fun time. I don't trust anyone anymore either. I was helping a guy lose some Zeds the other day, but we couldn't kill each other in the first place, me having no weapon and him having a bowgun with no bolts. Now I had a bolt, but I didn't leave it for him until we parted ways, in fear he'd shoot me in the head for my canteen and matches.

    Noob Questions

Just today I was going to the military camp just south of SAF. I had to open the gate and as it opened it pushed me into the nearby barbed wire and I lost a large ammount of blood.

    new here and

Yup, supermarkets are your friend for that kind of stuff. Also, if you get an axe, hunting knife, matches, and canteen, you never need to go into a town again. You can live in the forest and and pick and choose your loot times, rather than needed to run through Cherno for water.

    Night-Time..?

Chemlight + axe combo is OP durring nightime raids. Just get blue ones and keep your ears open for gunshots.

Broken Leg, Don't know where I am

Well if you're still in Zelenogorsk, it's quite a hike (or crawl if you will) to the nearest hospital in Cherno. If you have buddies that can run it up to you, that would be best.

    My first DayZ guy

Well if you think about it, you can wait 10-40 seconds after you start losing blood, depending on what you're eating. Obviously it makes sense to eat when your deep red and in a safe place to eat, but optimally, you can lose some blood first.

    Cue Benny Hill theme

So in my latest adventure I bumped into a "friendly", I had no weapon and he had a bowgun with no bolts, so we didn't have much of a choice but to be friendly. Anyways, I watched him go into a group of buildings, just east of Three Valleys if my navigations were correct. I attempted to warn him there was no loot there, having just been through it, but he had already agroed a large number of Zeds, probably around 7-10. I would've gladly helped him out, but had no weapon, so I layed there prone in the treeline watching him run around and around and around with these Zeds, afraid to leave the area I guess. It was pretty damn hilarious to watch, and really lighted up the mood, even for just a bit. I did need to get moving on, getting hungry and what not, so I left him a couple cans of soda (I had a canteens, so no need for soda) a bandage and a single bolt for his bowgun that I forgot I grabbed earlier. Told him where I left it, best way to lose Zeds, and said my goodbye. Later on I see him pop up on global text chat, thanking me, saying the supplies I gave him saved him his life. He offered to team up, but by then I was pretty far North. A bit after that when I was done for the day, I see a friend request on steam. Seems I made a friend.

My first few times playing DayZ

And this is why the coast is evil. At least Cherno and Elektro. Head inland and give a big middle finger to those bandits.

    heart pumping

If that's where you get your thrills I suppose. I'm not one for PK'ing unless provoked, but I do find thrills in getting myself in impossibly horrible situations. A bit of a gaming masochist if you will.

    Help

  13. herrjon

    That's it....

Just shoot until you hear the flies :D
  14. I'll link the tutorial I used. It's from a couple patches ago, so ignore the starting items, but all the controls are the same. It seems you have others willing to help, and I won't repeat the other jibber jabber, just don't give up, you'll get it. I'll just add this, don't swim! It's not worth it, you can lose everything.

Terrified in my first 10 minutes

Wow, wish I had that first experience. Mine consisted of running inland, finding a town, and bumping into a Zed who immediately broke my leg while I got swarmed with no gun. You don't have to play at night, just follow the time zones and you'll be fine.

    What is it with people...?

Glad to see you're going to give it an honest try. It may seem like all these bandits are "killing for no reason" but they are trying to surive, just like you. You may choose to wander and scavange, they may choose to camp and steal. Everyone is free to survive how they see fit, so be careful who you trust, and avoid those popular areas as a solo player.

    What is it with people...?

Honestly, that sounds like pretty understandable behavior in a survival situation. Bandits group up, find a lone guy in the hills. Wants their stuff but can't be for sure he has buddies or that he'll hit at that range. Lure said victim in tent and shoot point blank, not revealing the other 3 guys in his group. If they did just take all your stuff and let you go, you could go find your friend and tell them where they are and how many there are, and what weapons they have. Not everyone is going to want to be happy friends that hold hands and skip through fields of zombie corpses. It's a fight for survival, against zeds, and against other people as well.
  18. So while I as playing, I had gotten all the hunting gear within the first 15 min. I went into the forest and went hunting while heading north. It was then I lost connection a min away from a server reset (dunno is that matters) so I try and reconnect, and all my stuffs gone. Ah well, another day another horde. Is there a proper way to save your character while you're connection is being lost? Edit: @title Attached*
  19. I would happily edit the title if I could, hopefully people will actually read the OP and see my correction.

    Just started playing...total newbie

Just check it out when you drop in. Use the loot map dayzdb.com/map to find where you are and what's the best place to get a drink.

    Just started playing...total newbie

Are you in Stary Sobor? Military tents with a big ass red warehouse to the south? I would GTFO if you don't have a gun. If you need to figure out where you are, it does tell you everytime you log in, and you can also find road signs and landmarks to guide you.
  22. That's fine, I understand it's buggy. Just wanted to know if there was something I could do. I'll just keep on trucking then.

    Can you make safehouses?

All you have to do is be in the treeline just a bit outside of town. Zeds only spawn around buildings, so unless you pull them into the forest, you're 'safe' there (meaning you still have players to deal with.) You can also find buildings with mulitple floors and put baricades and what not to keep Zeds from coming up when you shoot.
  24. Would you prefer a tutorial? Starting off too easy in a survival simulator kind of takes away from the experience, and if you don't want that experience, I'd say the game probably isn't for you, because it only gets worse once you're off the beach. It really imerses you into the experience of survival, because when you don't have anything, you feel so grateful when you find that can of beans or that Makarov mag. Having too much loot from the start can also make you a higher value target from spawn, meaning bandits would camp the spawn points and would just have to kill one person for an easy dinner. Now, it used to be you had a gun, food and drink, but Rocket took that out for good reasons, and is all testing it to see the effects on the game. Who knows, next patch we could all start with AK's and Alice packs with hunting gear. It's up to him, he's the Dev and we are his loyal testing team. Now I won't go through all your suggestions, but seeing you can't appreciate a watch, something that can be used to tell you where North is, how long till night, how long till morning, etc. makes me think you need to play a bit more. For the UI, again, still in a debugging/testing phase, there's larger conserns right now than tooltips and in-game tutorials. I personally understood them from the start, but there is a wiki and a forum for those who are confused.
  25. Then you realize you have to get a good gun first, they'll probably see you camping in a dumb spot and kill you first, bandits usually alt+F4 when shot at, and even if you do kill them they'll just let their buddy sniper on the hill take you out while the guy you killed gets back all his stuff, and yours.
