I finally killed my first non-bandit player. I was in the Elektro school, fresh spawn, only had an axe and some meds. I guy was standing in one of the rooms, holding a makarov. He saw me as well and begins firing. I stupidly take cover down the hall (this was 2nd floor) trapping myself. I say, "friendly, don't shoot, I have nothing." No response from him. He then comes out and beings firing on me, I dodge most of the bullets and begin attacking him with my axe. I could've stopped after I took out his leg, but something inside me just forced me to w+m1 until he was down. I had planned to patch him up after he was unconcious, but he stayed awake and shooting until the final blow. I still have 1k+ humanity, but I feel terrible. He did have some nice tools, but aside from that, not much. I could've dealt with not having the makarov, but I took it with me, out of respect. Aside from traping myself in the hallway, did I do the right thing? The only thing that eases the guilt is the fact that he had just spawned and didn't lose very important stuff. Also, a seperate encounter, just before this. A bandit carrying an axe walks up to me saying "Wooo, don't attack, I'm friendly, I don't have a gun" I usually shoot bandits on sight, but I figured I'd let this go since he could be a newbie that had to kill in self defense pre-patch. I keep and eye on him and go for the dead body in the room, and I see my "friendly bandit" pull out a pistol through the front desk. I immediately stand up and charge at him with my axe, as he is clearly a liar and just wanted to kill me. He did get away unfortunately. If I had gotten him, I would've taken his stuff and left area, not even seeing my future victim.

It Sounds Like It's Not Even About Zombies
herrjon replied to FanboyHunter's topic in New Player Discussion
The zombies are pretty easy to deal with. A friend and I crouch ran through Cherno while under cover from common sniper spots, without agroing a single zombie. I don't actively seek out PvP, but I will attack people when attacked. What my goal is is to find wounded or new players and help them out, counter the banditry, even just a little. -
Well, Arma II by itself is a good buy, but Day Z is definately worth. It's not a game for everyone, steep learning curve, but oh so satifying.
-
Just set up near Zelenogork. It's inconspicuous enough, out of any common paths, heck when I was going back without a map and I couldn't find it for a bit. About 10-15 min walk away from Cherno, and I have a bike to take me wherever from there. Close enough to the meds in the south and the guns in the north that it works out nicely. One drawback is lack of easy water source, but I have the easily scoutable Zeleno supermarket to take care of me.
-
The same could be said the other way around. There are plenty of people that ask for help and either it's a trap to just get loot, or they'll shoot the medic as soon as they're healed up. There's a reason the TWM recruit body guards.

If snake_eyes doesn't pull through, I can help you out, I'm in elektro so I'm not too far, just PM and we'll set something up.

I'm very aware it's a game, but it's a sandbox game, I can play it however I want. I want to ghost through towns and find wounded people to heal and new people to help. This is much more challenging then going all death match with military weapons imo. I also prefer to RP to a degree, doing my best to immerse myself and play the role, and IRL, I wouldn't be killing a soul. Just how I play bro.

Berezino not all its cracked up to be...
herrjon replied to daspope's topic in New Player Discussion
Haven't been up there, but I know my last time through Elektro was pretty fruitless. I did get meds, food, canteens and a makarov, but everything but the meds I got off other players. Berezino sounds pretty sweet right about now. -
Why do I keep getting kicked from servers?
herrjon replied to Mark88's topic in New Player Discussion
You have to update your battleye client. Go to their site and replace your current file with the new one. -
Why do I keep getting kicked from servers?
herrjon replied to Mark88's topic in New Player Discussion
You don't have to launch it as DayZ I think, just launch Arma II: CO -
It's inevitable, at least if you plan on actually doing something interesting. I actually don't die a whole lot, I'm very careful and observant, but when I do I learn from it and move on. My last death was actually because I was helping out a newer person, he took a risk and went to loot a dead body, I didn't go with and got cover in a building. There was someone there who shot him and knocked him out. I could've ran away but I decided to run out and save him, ended up dying in the fight. So yeah I died, but I died valiantly. Also refreshing to die sometimes, less stress. And I find having a tent gives some closure, even if right now mine just has a couple guns and some meat in it.

Well, there's survivor HQ for this sort of thing, but I can play with you a bit today. How's your ping on US servers?
-
lol beans to you my friend, your attempt at angering me has given me a good laugh. Troll on bro, troll on.
-
It drops faster while running in standing position vs. crouch run, dunno about going uphill. If memory serves, it also drops faster in stressful situations, such as zombie and player encounters.

It seems you're playing on the wrong servers. Until you do find one that is relatively hack free, I wouldn't get attached to your stuff, or your stats. And even when you do find one I wouldn't. And most hacks/scripts involving teleporting and what not can be dealt with by logging out and logging back in on a low pop. Falling you just do it at the right time. Get stuck out in the ocean, start the game, exit while loading, congrats, you're on the beach. They can be dealt with fairly easily, if people actually did this and stopped QQing about it, hackers would stop wanting to hack as much. I recently got a CZ 550 as well, 2nd sniper rifle I had ever found all game. I was wanting to try it out and use it as well, but while playing around with it, one of the backpack glitches deleted it. Did I rage and complain? No. I had a good laugh at the situation and moved on, looking for another. I'm not expecting you to laugh at it, but understand that you need to adapt and adjust to a situation, not complain about it. That's survival. If you are really itching to fire a sniper rifle, you have ARMA II, go on there and fire all the rifles you want.

Do people go out of THEIR way to kill new players?
herrjon replied to Bullet Sponge's topic in New Player Discussion
Happens to the best of us. When having to cross an open area, just sprint full speed and run in a random zig-zag, this will make you 100x harder to hit, and always search the treeline for movement and muzzle flashes. Of course, if there is a path with cover, take that if at all possible. -
Hawkeye, you just need to be more careful. As soon as you spawn, run for cover, if someone was going to see you doing this they had already been watching for awhile. Scope out areas for players before you move in to loot, and never swim, ever. Dunno why you think harder servers will remedy your problems, you'll just have a harder time since you can't go 3rd person and what not. But I wish you luck, and don't give up. If we meet ever, you'll get a gun and some meds.

Do people go out of THEIR way to kill new players?
herrjon replied to Bullet Sponge's topic in New Player Discussion
Just play a bit safer, don't haul it down the middle of the road, at least get to the treeline. The thing is, if you have any form of weapon, you can kill them and take their stuff. You can even conceal weapons in your pack or loot their pack and steal their gun to kill them with it. People are paranoid of losing their stuff. Yes there are those that leave a car in the middle of elektro and snipe everyone who walks up to it for sport, but they're not as plentiful as you may think. Also, Slide, some of those people are driving down the coast to HELP newbies, by picking them up and taking them where they want to go. Just use your best judgement, you may get a ride. -
Of all the things to get attached to you, you pick zombie kills? Takes time sure, but not much skill. As for the groups, how is this any different from one or multiple getting sniped, dying to a glitch, etc? Hackers gonna hack, just laugh it off and move on.

Quick noob question here. So I just got a tent. Now the last one I found, I had disconnected for whatever reason, so I joined a different server and the tent wasn't in my inventory anymore. This could've been done to the way I logged out, but can undeployed tents be taken to a different server in my inventory, or am I stuck in the server I found it in?
-
Oh sweet, thanks. That's what I assumed, I just wanted to make sure, since I haven't found a server to call home yet. Which makes the picking it back up even better. I assume though anything in the tent once you pick it back up is deleted?
-
I'm not an enemy...everyone who I've killed was bandit, and everyone else that I've shot at I've promtly healed and left them there to wake up.
-
Just your opinion I suppose. I can deal with them, I could just be lucky with the servers I pick, but I've only been thunderdomed once, as that was as a fresh spawn. And when I do get killed by a hacker, I just laugh at how silly they are and start over. This game is in alpha and very buggy as of now, so if the hackers don't take your gear, the game will. That's why you don't get attached. Come back later I guess.

Look out for me, Herr Doctor. I run around with a bag full of meds helping people out and killing bandits. I've also handed out guns and stuff like a GPS before, feels good man.
