    Survivor-hero-bandit

I play as a Hero/Medic. When I first got a bunch of good gear, found in a what was later discovered as a hacker's tent, I was very paranoid of losing it, and ended up stuffing it into a tent and started fresh. It is possible to be friendly and hold onto your morals, but it's a lot harder than just shooting on sight. Most of my patients are in a teamspeak channel with me or at least have them on steam and what not, but random people I find, I have to never been seen until it's safe, have them drop their gun or at least lower it, and turn away from me. It's fine on lower pop servers, but high pop servers, it gets risky b/c in hotspots someone else is likely to discover your friendly engagement. It's also easier to not carry gear people really want, but I'm still running around with my M9 SD and L85, cause if people do kill me, I'll just start again.

Those things they never tell you.

I figured it was ok since everything I said can be found on the wiki. Just showing how glitchy the skin is.

Those things they never tell you.

I can confirm this. I try not to abuse it, but it just happens. You really only need 2-3 mags for your guns if you play it right. More room for blood and bandages I guess. Also, another added glitch with Heroes, is when they log, they perform the falling over dead animation, and even have a chance of duping their body.

Those things they never tell you.

I haven't completely confirmed it, but I know in some areas, when people look at you from afar, it seems to them your body has clipped through a bit, and in some cases, having no backpack can make you completely invisible to snipers.

Thermal and night vision should be removed

It's not completely unreasonable that there would be some military tech, however limited, available in this type of situation, especially when there are multiple military complexes across the map. This scarcity isn't fairly represented right now yes, but that's due to duping/hacking, current loot system. Standalone is coming soon and should fix most of this, so these tools will be much more rare, and much less of a threat. As for the batteries and what not affecting both NVGs and thermal, Rocket has said he wants to have gear require maintenance, especially military, it just isn't possible with the current engine. He feels confident he'll be able to do what he wants in standalone and create more cons to using a military gear other than just ammo and being a target. I'm sure the need of batteries or recharging for these tools is either already on the table for them, or is a possibility. Basically, bickering about this now is more or less pointless, as all work is going into the new game, and we cannot discuss balancing there until we are able to see what standalone has to offer.

    Lost My Hero Skin?

Probably just another one of the numerous humanity glitches. I'd say just do another transfusion and get it back.

I'm on ts.dayzmedics.com, that's the TMW teamspeak. I'm near cap galova if you need help
  9. All I can say Norksi, is that you need to learn to deal with the snipers, they're not going away. Stay in a much cover as possible, check around each corner, check you six frequently, and most importantly, never stop moving. If you stop momentarily, that's an easy shot for any novice sniper, and in general you don't want to spend more than a minute or two at any one building, as everything you do draws attention, and you're easier to track if you move through town slowly. As far as playing with people, I suggest getting active in the general discussion forum. There, there are sub-forums 'bandit campfire' and 'survivor HQ', both to find people with those general play styles, then there's also clan recruitment in there. Nice guys you randomly meet in game are hard to come by, as everyone is paranoid of dying, and the biggest threat in this game is another player you know nothing about, so most will either shoot you in fear, or lusting after gear you're carrying around. Your best bet is finding a hero skin player, but even then, be careful. Some bandits will humanity farm with their buds to pretend to be a Hero. But If I see you in game (cause you probably won't be seeing me) I'll give you a friendly heal and some gear. Best of luck, and be careful out there!

    New player looking for friendlies

I'll be on tomorrow afternoon (CST). I logged in Cherno so shouldn't be too difficult to meet up. Just send me a PM if your interested and we'll get in touch.
  11. I actually use Commander with steam closed and logged in on another computer, but my install was a bit odd, using the six updater download and then later switching to DayZ Commander. I know when I got it to work on my brother's computer though, steam needed to be open, or at least logged in and active. I'll hit a few points just to cover some bases -Make sure you run bother Arma II and and Arma II OA to at least the title screen. You may have to do this by running steam as admin. -To double check the game installed correctly, right click on the game in your library, go to properties->local files and select 'verify integrity of game cache'. Do this for both. -In commander, go to settings and check both 'launch using steam' and 'replace origianl Arma2OA with Beta so Steam works' -Also under commander setting, verify the directories are correct. It typically has them correct, but if you can run the games in steam, you may have to override the path for it to recognize the game is installed. Aside from that, I don't know what to tell you.

    Day Z Day 0( New Player/Survivor)

Damn, gave up your Whiskey? That's dedication. You've got your tutorials already for mechanics, and I won't tell you how to play. Just follow your instincts and do what you'd naturally do a situation. If you die, and you will, then you learn and move on. I will say though, if you're planning on being a friendly, you certainly can, but do so with caution. Make sure people either can't see your, are turned away from you, or have their gun lowered, otherwise, they're not friendly. And of course be wary of there friends, try to stay in the best cover possible, and don't stop moving if not in a building.

    in need of medical help!!

In the world of DayZ, where gear is the currency of the land, I have more than enough to live comfortably, and wish to share my wealth, rather than horde it. I wish to help people, and taking their limited gear for a simple jog and a transfusion just doesn't seem right to me. I don't need the best guns in the game, just enough to do my job. Infact, I've been more successful healing random people running around with a flashlight out and a hatchet on my belt. I'm no longer a target with no gear, you kill me, all you'll get in some nav tools, an alice pack literally full of meds, and a can of beans. If I do want a good gun however, I have plenty, and I usually take one with me and give it to my patient if it's a coordinated mission. TMW also have supplies guys that either already have whatever gear you can want, or can get it for you within the hour. No need to mooch off the patients. I do know there are medics who won't heal bandits and will shoot them on sight, but I am not one of those. I help whomever is in need. Just be prepared to be given the runaround security wise. It would be me and 1-3 bodyguards, on a server of our choice that we only tell you when we're in position, and if other people log in with you we call it off. Then during, your back to me with your gun lowered/dropped, in line of sight of at least one of my snipers, then we all log when the healing is done. We're charitable, but not stupid.

    in need of medical help!!

I've never accepted payment from a patient, more often then not I give them stuff. The only time was someone gave me anti-biotics. I refused, but he insisted, saying I'd actually put them to use. He was right as said patient died not 2 hours later. I haven't used them yet, but I have them at my camp ready to be used on some poor soul in the rain. On topic, you get sorted out iSurgez?
  16. Wow, a lot of personal attacks there Sandwichx, not a lot of backing to your argument. First off, I'd love to see a link to Rocket's DayZ rulebook, cause so far every time I've heard him talk about DayZ, he wants us to use the tools available to us and make our own experience. Now, hacking/scripting in a multilayer game is a pretty obvious broken rule, hence the existence of battleye (however ineffective it may be). Combat logging and ghosting is a direct multiplayer issue, meaning it's ruining the experience for another in a way not intended by game design. Loot dumping on the other hand, while potentially leading to unfair multiplayer, is still a direct single player exploit. The intentions can be vastly different. You can do it to get the best gear for PvP. You can go on a empty server and hoard all the weapons just to feel good. You can do it to get essentials when you've been extremely unlucky due to other quirks in the game. It's not as clean cut as scripting or combat exploits. Who knows, maybe they already removed this mechanic in standalone, but for right now, I don't see the problem with it considering the risk that is coupled with it, just to roll the dice of fate again. If you need a realistic comparison, consider it rummaging through the trash to find what wasn't on the surface. There are honestly bigger problems to deal with. But again, if you can dig up Rocket's rules, I'll be happy to change my mind.
  17. Well, the methodology has been explained well enough, so I'll get in on the discussion. Aside from the fact that there is no rules in survival, there are drawbacks to this exploit, if you can call it that. Even if you're just dumping stuff in a tent, wiping a spawn takes time, plus the time it takes to leave and comeback. Unless you're in an empty server, spending all this time in hotspots (barracks, firehouse, market) will get you killed, because other players are looking for the exact same stuff you are. You also have to deal with zeds the entire time, which can become tiresome after the first couple of dumps. It's a lot more risky than the laundry list of other exploits, that exclude scripting, in order to get or keep good gear. A majority of people get a good gun or gear, then use tents to make 5 more for their mates and now have an endless supply of endgame gear that they can have and use without fear of dying or even having to even loot at all. That's what you should be whining about, not people risking their neck dump a supermarket to get a map or some matches that had already gotten snatched up by the 20 other people that had already came through.

Am never going to get the Hero skin :(.

Just start a new life, go the a hospital in Cherno or elektro with no gear, and call out "Free transfusions!" If you die, just do it again until you get the skin.

    My Start to Dayz

And that's why I avoid the "pickup x" whenever possible and go straight to gear. I can understand you thought the PDW would go in your main gun slot, but that's only for rifles, PDW is a sidearm. It's also techically a sub-machine gun, not a machine gun, but I won't argue semantics. You can only have one rifle and one sidearm unless you put it in your bag, which can only happen if you open the bag in your gear menu and transfer it over into the bag. However, if you do this, make sure you have enough space. If you don't, it will delete it. Rifles take 10 slots, sidearms take 5. A few other things -That Chech vest pouch is actually worse than the starter pack. It has 6 and the starter has 8. Don't pick it up unless you lost any other bag to swimming or a glitch. -Some mags can be changed to other mags. For instance, if you had right clicked on that M1911 mag, you could use it in your revolver. -It is possible to be friendly, you just have to be smart. I won't go through all the details, but try to see them before they see you, and keep it that way. Never go near a player with a raised weapon, they can shoot you at any moment (ctrl x 2 is lower weapon). Request they lower it before revealing yourself, and even then, be cautious. It's kept me alive in most situations, and I've only had to kill one non-bandit. What happened to you in this video was unfortunate as there was really no easy way of avoiding an axe man spawning right next to you, but the first one you were far too careless in your relations. -Don't rage so much. People will kill you, and you will run into a number of glitches. Just take it in strides and move on. Honestly, you've been pretty luck gear wise. My first 'good' life, all I has was a Lee Enfield all the way up to NWAF where all I found was an AKM.

    Bandit masks?

I can vouch for the run speed too. It's not amazing, but you can leave quite a gap after a few clicks. It's fun watching my gillie'd bodyguard to try keep up when running across the countryside. As for the protection, haven't done any testing myself, but I hear it's the same as Camo, just low grade small arms such as Makarov or M1911. M9 SD probably doesn't hurt either, but I don't know why someone would be firing that on a player.

    Question About Heros

Yeah, I've died plenty of times since getting my hero skin, even some glitchy ones, and it has stuck with me. Seems a little odd that this carries over through death, but it may not in standalone, unfortunately.

I'm not too far from there, was headed up to the Sobors anyways, you can find me on the TMW teamspeak or steam so we can get in touch.

    My failed dayz day

Not at all, I'm a Trusted Medic of the Wasteland. I lost exact count of patients at this point, but it's somewhere around 15 now. If you or your buddy still needed help, I'll be happy to run up to you. I'll be on the rest of the night, just hit me up on steam (in the sig), or if you have teamspeak, you can find me on ts.dayzmedics.com, or just send me a PM on here if you don't have either of those. Either way, good luck and have a good time.

If you need medical help, I'll be on later tonight, 6-7 hours or so.

    My failed dayz day

Sounds like a successful first day. You'll pick up on the glitches, and know what's important to take and not take. I would've taken the antibiotics in a heartbeat since I'm a medic, but if it was between blood for yourself or antibiotics for a possible cough (which unfortunately did happen) I'd say blood would still be the right choice. Just remember to check your six frequently. Best of luck!
