It stops small arms such as Makarov and M1911, so if you run into a bambie with a makarov, they won't be a threat unless they're good at head shots. Same goes for the Hero skin.

Best places to pitch a tent/make a base?
herrjon replied to tals975's topic in New Player Discussion
I maintained a camp for a long time at Old Fields just a bit NE or Starry. I don't have it any longer due to the trees eating the tents, but I just love how I was a stones throw away from Starry without any issues. But yes, small towns can be surprisingly effective. And bridges, no one looks under bridges. -
For what happened to the guy, it's very possible he just couldn't deal with zombies, depends on what the shots sounded like. Typically though if a zombie agroes on a player regardless of reasons, after said player dies a couple zombies will stay by the body and "eat" it until they're killed, despawn, or agroed to something else. Sounds like what you need now is a map and matches (and an Alice pack). I'd recommend heading to Zelenogorsk from there and and looting what I call the western market belt. It's Zelenogorsk, Pustoshka and Vybor, all of which have supermarkets, and Vybor has an office building if you get really unlucky. High chance of finding a tent on the way too, and some nice spots to the west to stash it. Zelenogorsk us NNW out of Cherno, about 5km or so (I forget) then you just take a left when the paved road breaks off and follow that all they way up to to Vybor. You will hit a small town called Sosnovka in between Zelenogorsk and Pustoshka, just don't bother with that. For Zelenogorsk though, if you think you're getting lost, look for a giant radio tower on a hill. This is green mountain, which is 1km NE of Zelenogorsk. (I don't recommend going up there though, that place is haunted, no joke). Worst comes to worst, head south, find Komarovo or Kamenka and follow the roads leading North out of them, you'll reach Zelenogorsk in about 10-15 min from there. Happy Hunting :D

Yeah, the armory is on Arma II, you choose a weapon or vehicle, then go into Chenarus and get missions to unlock more or just screw around. There's also the editor to practice on, but I've found this can be confusion an unintuitive to people not familiar with Arma and its editor. It is great fun once you learn to use it, and it's where I did most of my Heli practice. What you might want to considering doing if you want to keep the CZ 550 but still use another rifle (since it is pretty rare for a civilian rifle) is find a tent, and either stash the CZ in there for now, or drop off some non-essential combustibles (ammo for other guns, extra food/drink, extra meds you don't need at the moment) so you have room to put the CZ in your pack and you can either pull out the hatchet or find a Winchester or something. Best place to find a tent is a supermarket, but I've had good luck in the pubs and schools too. It does take 3 spaces when you find one though, so make sure you have at least that available.

If I need to go single primary I prefer the M16A4 ACOG. Sure it doesn't deal 8000 damage like the M14 and whatnot, but it's quiet, can use STANAG SD rounds, and can get accurate headshots from 600m. Just have to practice hip fire and using the scope, but that's what armory is for. For best double primary loadout I go with M4A1 CCO SD and DMR. You can swap the DMR with M14 AIM if you like, just depends on how good with the DMR you are and how close quarters you plan on fighting players. Fresh spawn though, as others have said, can't beat the axe/pistol combo. Winne can work fine too if you feel you need a gun, or you can usually find an AK or an MP5 in a firestation or deerstand. If you go with AKM, I'd choose your shots wisely. It's considerably louder than the other variants, so you either have to be ready to lose zeds or be accurate with your sidearm when you need to deal with zeds.

Guess I will make one comment on the ban, more of a question. What do you hope to get from complaining about a battleye ban on a public forum? The only people that could actually resolve the issue are Battleye themselves or the admin from the server you initially got banned on. You contacted Battleye now you just wait. They have to sift through all the other may or may not be scripters asking for ban appeals, so forgive them for taking their time and not sending the real scripters back into the game. Making a thread on a public forum about this is just asking to get flamed. If I were a moderator this thread would already be closed before more people jump in. Edit: If you want to share the experience, use the search bar, it shouldn't take you long.
-
It has to deal with how accepting Arma II is of scripts. All scripters need is a simple bypass and they go undetected. Standalone won't be the same way. It will be it's own game and not a mod, so it will be harder to use scripts in general. The Dev's know hacking is a major problem, the number 1 problem in fact, but they can't do much with how Arma II is and focusing their efforts on making sure the Standalone is as secure as possible. As for your ban, I won't touch that conversation.

I use the dayzdb info for DMR http://dayzdb.com/database/dmr takes out the math and gives you the offset for the different ranges as well as roughly the range for varying mildot heights at zoom level 2. Obviously halve that if they're crouched, or use the horizontal ones if they're prone. If they're really close to the point where it's difficult to size them up, it ends up being about 1/2 the mildots at level 1, but at that point if you're shooting at zoom one, you don't need to offset it too much for those distances anyways. There's also other ways to range find without the use of a rangefinders or mildots, if say you're a spotter in a squad and you'll calling out positions, however it requires knowing how to read the map somewhat precisely. Easiest is of course way points. If you see a bandit on Elektro hospital for instance, set a waypoint for the hospital and bam, there's your range. Can get a bit tricky in unfamiliar areas, but is useful if you don't have mildots to go off of, or you do but your target it behind cover and you can't range them off their height. However, there are servers that have waypoints disabled, then it gets a bit more tricky. If you know you're position and you see someone, use your map and figure out about where they are. Then you can use the coordinate system and some math to figure out a rough distance. It gets into radial distances and some geometry that I probably couldn't explain very well, but there's tutorials all over if you're looking to get more advanced. Edit: Just remembered this one from DayZguidez. It's more estimation than anything, but it works just fine in the heat of things, just depends on how exact you want to get.

Geez, must've found quite an active server. Glad you had a good time. You'll get used to knowing which buildings are enter-able and which are not soon enough. If you're looking for something to deal with zombies look through industrial buildings and find a hatchet. Remove from tool belt, reload, and your set for some nice, quiet zombie killing. By the sounds of it though, zeds aren't giving you too much trouble. I'll tell you, going up on the walkway of that warehouse is bad news if you got zeds sniffing you out and you're not silenced, it can even get the most experienced of players. The other day me and one of my mates were scavenging helicopter parts. We get to the lumberyards of Berezino and split up a bit. He could see some windscreen glass on the walkway up there and rushes to get it. He already had a couple zeds on him and agroed some more while clanking around on the metal. It was this time he realized he had used up all his G17 ammo and only had his DMR left. He paniced a bit and fired off a couple shots. This of course alerted the entire yard and surrounding area of fresh meat. I rush in to help him to find him in the very corner with a conga line of zombies all the way around. I start firing to take out the ones closest to him and keep going down the line, as all need to die for him to leave safely. I end up using all my M4A1 CCO SD ammo and resorted storing it in a zombie body (there was plenty at this point) and pulling out my hatchet to deal with the rest. Some bandages, blood bags, and 50 odd zombie kills later, we finally got him out of there safe. It's just a nasty little spot to be in.

What are you doing climbing ladders in the first place? The only one I really find needed sometimes is the firehouse and ATC tower ones, and even that can be avoided provided you can shoot your way out. Even if ladders worked, the destinations of them are just bad news anyways. In the words of Yahtzee, just because a ladder is hard to find doesn't mean there will be goodies at the top of it.

No, I'm pretty sure they'll stay, or at least something similar. There will be other clothing to wear as well.

Most dangerous coastal city - Cherno or Elektro
herrjon replied to theirongiant's topic in New Player Discussion
Elektro for sure. it's a lot smaller (at least the important bits) so if there's someone there, you will run into them. It's also easy to see common sniper spots compared to sniper hill and whatnot where you can never know for sure if there's a wookie hiding in the trees. Elektro attracts more bandits with the 2 firehouses, and lower geared bandits tent to have a easy time killing in town from spots like on top of the hospital and inside the pub, where there's clear views of the supermarket and the school. I feel a lot more safe in Cherno, hands down. -

If you could come to the teamspeak (ts.dayzmedics.com) we have a team on standby -
Also important to note, be sure to exit the vehicle before the server restarts. If you are in it when the restart happens, you will clipped through the ground and exist in the same space as the vehicle. The ground part can be fixed by using a combustible that plays an animation, but in order to move you should go to a different server and move out of the way. If you don't do both of these, you have a high chance of death. Just be sure when you find a vehicle to research exactly when that server restarts. Not all of them give warnings. And definitely don't be flying when it restarts.

I never ask or say friendly anymore, all saying friendly means is that you don't want to get shot at. I had tried the "don't move or I'll shoot" early on and all it accomplished is make a hurt bambi crap his pants and d/c. Nowadays, I get in good cover and ask if they need help at all, medical, food, tools, etc. If they don't respond or react to me, I leave a steak on the ground and leave the area. If they respond no I wish them safe travels and leave typically without being seen. If they respond yes, I just calmly ask them to lower their gun and maybe sit down or salute for my own peace of mind and explain I'll have my gun lowered as well. If they attempt to find me, I leave. If they fire at me, I'll fight back. I don't go for the kill, I do my best to knock them out, then I'll fix them up and leave them in a safe spot to wake up if possible. I've only had to kill one random person, and even that I regret.

Haven't really payed attention to server location so I can't give you a specific server, but make sure you're using DayZ Commander as it usually shows more servers or at least makes it easier to filter through them. And as for the version they're running, sometimes servers don't update their information, so if it looks like a good server go ahead and try it anyways without worrying about swapping Arma II versions. Hope that helps.

If you need help learning the game, TMW has a mentoring programs with a "Chenarus 101" course to help new players get on their feet. PM me if you're interested.

I highly recommend using DayZ Commander. You can set a filter to hide any unofficial servers. Some still slip through but it's better than trial and error through Six or in-game. Typically though, stay away from those that say "DayZ Chenarus" as this usually means it's a private hive.

One thing I would recommend if you get a spawn near Cherno/Elektro is at least get to the hospital and get some morphine, bandaged, and blood since you play with a friend. Bloodbags only spawn in hospitals which are only in coastal cites, and while mophine does spawn elsewhere, I think you're better off going for the sure thing of a hospital than hoping that next dearstand has morphine, you don't want to get caught up north with a broken leg. Apart from that, I may recommend the Berezino area if you're looking to get a bit better geared. It's a bit of a run, but it's worth it imo. It's a large city with 2 supermarkets, a pub, hospital, apartments, and 4 military tents as well as scattered deerstands. However, not many people go up there, as people don't spawn up there, and if memory serves the closest spawn is Three Valleys. And with no fresh spawns, that means no bandit snipers up on a hill. Also a bit North of Berezino is NE Airstrip, which is also not very populated. I'd still take caution ovbiously, but there's less shenanigans than Balota Airstrip, and NW Airfield is a death sentence for a new player.

Did your location stay the same or were you back on the coast again? Sometimes those private hives can slip through the cracks and come up as public on commander. You'll know right away if it's private if it prompts you to chose gender. Also a good rule of thumb to not connect to ones that say "DayZ Chenarus" in the server name even if it's under official, those tend to be private hives from my experience.
-
If you play a different map, you'll basically have 2 or more running characters. Your Chenarus character stays in the same place with the same gear, humanity, kills, etc. On Lingor Island or whatever map you chose to play, you will have a brand new character, starting at Day 0 at one of the starting spawn points, with 2500 humanity, with whatever starter gear the server gives you (varies from server to server). You can go back and forth from your Chenarus and Lingor characters and they will not affect each other, they will be just how you left them. It's the same as playing on a Chernaus private hive if you have any experience with those, only different map. Also, all servers that run the other maps are private hives, so you'll probably want to shop around for a good server before you get started.
-
Yes, they're all private because they're not official supported by the dev's. However there are some groups of servers that are connected to the same private hive, but as of right now there's no way for DayZ Commander or Six to explicitly say which hive a server belongs to. Typically there will be a website in the server name, and there you'll find out if there's any other servers you can hop to, as well as other important info about the server.
