I'm new and ready for the Fight

The player activity is dependent on how many people are on the server. If there's at least 10, chances are you'll run into someone in Cherno Elektro, but most servers have a cap at 50, which at that point you can't go anywhere near a city without seeing someone. But it can surprise you. The other day me and my group got attacked by a group of 3 in Cherno when there was only 9 people on the server, meaning only 2 players on the server where NOT in Cherno. Most of your random encounters will at least start with hostility, so be sure to exercise caution in trusting randoms if you don't want to shoot on sight. You might want to stick to low pop servers until you get the hang of zeds and looting, but it's up to you. I got started on 30-40 player servers, it can be done, you just have to be ready to deal with a lot more bullets.

    dayz application load error help?

We'll need some more info. Did you get Arma II off steam? Did you run both Arma II and OA as administrator. What do you mean by "glitchy", you need to be more specific there.
  3. When it comes down to it, for sidearms, damage and PvP capabilities shouldn't even be considered. What's important is the sights, silenced capabilities, and magazine rareness/flexibility. If you have anything beyond the civilian pistols chances are you'll have some sort of farm rifle or at the very least a hatchet, if you don't and you're on the business end of a bandit's rifle, no sidearm is going to help, only your legs. And as many have said, you should only be headshotting zeds, body shots is a waste of time and ammo. M9 SD is good because it can't be heard by zeds and won't be heard by players more than 150m away. The sight is fine, but the issue lies in the ammo. You can only load it with M9 SD mags which are fairly rare as far as magazines go, not Bizon Mag rare, but it's up there. If I have a surplus of those mags I'll use it, but otherwise it stays in the tent. PDW shines in the fact that it can be loaded with 6 different mags (PDW, G17, M9, M9 SD, MP5, MP5 SD). When loaded with the SD mags, it will be silent to zeds, and for players the sound doesn't carry that far anyways. It could be argued that this could be the best PvP sidearm with it's full-auto capabilities, for those who wish to have a hatchet out at all times, but again, if someone is shooting at you, you'll just get yourself killed trying to take them out with a sidearm. The drawback of the PDW for me at least is the terrible sight on it. If I don't have a G17 or want to run with 8 bandages (I'm a medic btw), I'll take the PDW with me. G17 is my overall favorite. I can be loaded with M9 SD mags when I can't afford to draw aggro, the sight on it is wonderful making aiming a piece of cake, and G17 mags are pretty common finds in military and industrial spawns, as well as the fact that you can load it with M9 and M9 SD mags. Plus the added bonus of the mounted flashlight which can serve as more than just seeing what's in front of you, including signalling an LZ for a chopper, letting your allies find you if you get separated, and guiding someone without NVG's through an area, all without having to fiddle with getting your standard flashlight out. All in all, I believe you should base your comparison more off in-game mechanics and stats, and less off of personal opinion and real life experience. It's cool that you do have that knowledge and experience, but it doesn't all transfer over to the game. What can be a bad gun in real life could be an amazing gun in-game, as you have already stated yourself. Just some advice for your next round of comparisons.
  4. I have to go to work for the day, but if you go to the teamspeak address ts.dayzmedics.com there should be a medic there ready to help.

    Vehicle repair?

You need a vehicle first, and those wrecks all over the road don't count. Once you find one that you have the option to get in, you should have a repair menu when you scroll over the sides of the car. Additionally, when in the driver's seat, there will be some new HUD items in the top left, typically 4 green boxes and a fuel gauge as well. If they're all green, you're good to, if not, you'll need to find the corresponding parts to repair those things. Naturally, you're typically going to be looking for wheels over anything else, your scrap will only fix the hull. Best of luck

Tips for raiding North West Airfield??

Pretty much what others have said, stay in cover as long as possible and be quick about it. I wouldn't bother looking through the hangers, especially the northern ones since you're far too exposed for the possible reward you'll be getting. Same with ATC tower, far too exposed, hard to get to without aggro, and too damn hard to even enter. I usually just hit both Barracks and the firehouse when I go, unless I know for sure no one else is there (empty server).

    Toilet paper?

They did promise crafting in SA

    Hacker on US 3480

I think you're looking for this section of the forum http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/forum/32-cheat-reporting/ Also, Battleye tries to detect those scripts, but there's bypasses and what not. Best you can do is report it to the admin of the server.

    Toilet paper?

Those two are just trash loot, mixing it up a bit. You can't do anything with them and you can't even throw them.
  10. If anyone is needed to learn how to play, TMW has a training course you can take. Just head to http://tmwdayz.com/ and check out the mentoring section of the forum.

New player searching for a "teacher"

TMW has a basic training system for new players, if you're interested, just PM me and I'll fill you in.
  12. Yes, use direct to talk to people ~80 away from you. I wouldn't recommend using your mic in side chat, as people rage and servers commonly ban people for VON on side chat.

    Zombie town spawn

Zombies continue to respawn as you kill them, and more will spawn the more you kill, up to 40. You can "clear" the town temporally if you kill the quick, but they will come back. Best to just stay stealthy and only kill those in your way, assuming your weapon is silenced.
  14. All Veteran means is more things will be disabled. It still varies per server, but most veteran ones will have nametags turned off and map markers (your specific location and the specific location of all entities you can see) is turned off. This one still has 3rd person and crosshairs as it says in OP, so overall I think it's safer to play on veteran, so hostile players can't track you as easily.
  15. Lost as in when you died or other reasons? If you try to put something in your bag but don't have room for it, the game with simply delete it. If you're switching weapons, move your bag weapon into your main inventory, the game will then move your active weapon into your bag with minimal problems.
  16. Zombie won't aggro if you have M9 SD mags or MP5 SD mags loaded into it. All other mags do create a sound that can be registered by zeds from about 50m. I would assume you just got lucky before and the last time just caused a chain reaction. That our you stepped on the tarmac too quickly.
  17. I support the use of the in-game map, but I recommend to people if they want the full immersive experience, don't use loot maps or way points, and avoid servers that show your location on the map in-game. Chenarus and other maps are very large and even with the best memory can easily be forgotten unless you've been through an area hundreds of times. If really in a zombie situation, if I found a map, which I probably would, I'd damn well use it. I'd use the elevation lines and landmarks to get my general location, decide where I want to go based off what I can see on the map and what I've heard about given locations, figure out a heading, and start navigating towards my destination. I do this in DayZ and it's quite fun. Especially fun on hardcore servers with nothing enabled

    Blood Transfusion/ Refueling

Your computer's specs have nothing to do with it, in most cases I've seen of this (and I have done a lot of transfusions), you have a back connection to the server. Even if the ping says it's fine, your packet loss could still be high, causing you to lag and having your game take awhile to realize your friend even needs a transfusion or your car needs fuel. Obviously it would be best to sort our your connection for a number of reasons, but quick fixes to this problem is just wait it out with the menu up, try walking away and coming back, moving the bloodbag around or using a different one, relog, or change your weapon to force the menu to update.
  19. Might be helpful to add some more information on what you want the clan to do, where you live, when you play, etc. There's so many "starting a clan" threads, you need to make yours stick out.

    i GIVE UP

Well it seems you have the latest Arma II Patch and DayZ Patch, just make sure you join through commander and only join servers that are running the latest patches, which can be seen under the version column, with Arma patch on top and DayZ patch on bottom. If you try to connect to an older version, it'd be like trying to play a PS3 disc on a PS2. If you still can't get in, just tell us the specific error, when it happened, and what you were doing. It could be a number of things so we need as many details as possible to help you.
  21. I'm a member of the Trusted Medics of the Wasteland. We're a fairly large group of Heroes who run out into danger to save the sick and wounded. We also help any bambie in need get on their feet. We never shoot first and do our best to avoid killing whenever possible. We always welcome company, so you're free to tag along or even join if you like. I'd rather not advertise our public server openly here, but if you go to the teamspeak channel "ts.dayzmedics.com" that's where we meet up and chat, so someone there will let you know. Our forum is http://tmwdayz.com/ . Also, since you're new, we have a training program called "Chenarus 101" that teaches new players about the cruel world of DayZ and how to thrive in it. If that sounds like something you'd like to do, feel free to submit a request form on our forum and we'll get you in the queue.
  22. Once you get used to the game you can join or found a bandit clan if that's what you're into, and get most of your supplies from killing people and find camps, but doing so obviously endangers you of other players in the area who now know you're a bandit and want you dead as well as aggroing a horde every time you fire a rifle anywhere near a town. And someone in your group will have to scavenge eventually. I'd recommending getting used to the engine before even attempting to pose a challenge in the PvP realm (and I don't mean Elektro sniping new spawns) because a lot of players know their Arma and will stomp you if you threaten them. Zombies respawn mildly fast and the number of active ones is based on the player. If I read the recent patch notes correctly, the first player in the area will spawn 40 zombies in a 300m radius, then there will be an addition 10 for each other player that happens to be 500m or less from the initial player. Finally there a number of scripters (they don't even deserve the title of hacker) but they can be pretty easily avoided by finding a nice whitelisted server such as Balota Buddies. It's too much work for a lazy scripter to go through just to script once and get isnta-banned. The coastal sniper problem is really a matter of opinion. I can deal with them and don't mind adding on the extra small threat, but others will argue they ruin the game. They're typically CoD players that are terrible shots anyways.
  23. You can still add it to your steam library to play from there. And for DayZ, I recommend playing through DayZ Commander which isn't really effected by if you're using steam or not.
  24. Unfortunately Arma isn't something you can really get a feel for in one afternoon, so as orlok said maybe try the demo version and go from there, and look into the other mods. Wasteland is a very popular one for instance. But I think even if it's just for dayz, the other maps and modes are worth it. Hackers can be dealt with by going to a good whitelisted server, and SA will have just as many bugs starting out, if not more. @liquidmind I totally agree with you that community builds can help the main one as well, but for Standalone, the code is going to be a lot more locked down, at least for awhile, so I wouldn't expect private servers and community maps for awhile. This isn't the devs being mean or greedy about it, they're just as tired of hackers as the rest of us and don't want to be so open about it as Arma is so hackers can so easily pick apart the game and hack all over. I can see maybe the community devs getting access and producing their own thing in SA, but it won't be the explosion of content that happened after Lingor came out.
  25. Well in my opinion, Arma II and OA are both wonderful games and support a number of different mods beyond DayZ Mod. That in itself is worth the $25 it costs for the set on steam. As far as mod vs. standalone, playing the mod will give you a feel for the game, and since the community devs have taken over, it's going a bit of a different direction, which isn't bad, I'm liking it so far (until they took out the new names for food/drink...) Also in standalone, there will only be the one map for a long while, where the mod has a plethora a community supported maps and game modes. In the end, it won't be quite as polished and extensive as the standalone, but the mod is good fun on its own.
