    Server questions

Private servers can be just as hostile as public ones, one difference is the chance of hackers. As far as the kicking issue, could be due to lazy admins not updating their stuff to allow new actions or whatnot. I know the server my groups plays on doesn't randomly kick for silly things, but we're medics, so it's probably not the setting you're looking for. I heard Balota Buddies has a good deal of PvP, might want to look into them.
  2. Just hop on the teamspeak ts.dayzmedics.com and we'll get you fixed up.

    Everyone kills me

I wouldn't consider a week of playtime enough to "know everything". Sure you get mechanics down and basic surivial, but you obviously don't know how to deal with players. You don't have to KoS at all, but that doesn't mean go out in the street and wave your arms around. You need to stay in cover whenever possible, and when coming in close contact with players, even friendly encouters, ensure they don't have a shot on your. Request they lower there weapon (ctrl x 2) and keep a sharp on what their character is doing. If you don't feel safe around them, disengage and get back to cover without arousing suspicion as soon as possible. You can be friendly, you just have to be smart about it. Turning into a bandit just because bandits keep killing you, doesn't help the problem.

My Arma 2 (DayZ) Won't work! Help!

I'd say start off by getting DayZ commander and making sure your DayZ and Arma II beta patch is up to day.
  5. What do you mean "not allowed"? It's free, takes up little space, downloads quickly, and is widely trusted. It makes playing and updating dayz a piece of cake. The only way I know to play other maps on steam is to download the map somewhere online, and edit your launch options on Arma II OA so that it will launch that map instead of vanilla dayz, but you'd need to go in an change that every time you want to change maps. Plus that's a bit more of an iffy download unless you know for absolute certain it's from the creator of that map.

    Skilled Vs Unskilled bandits

I don't think it's a question of skill, just different playstyles. Some people enjoy just shoot targets far away or KoS CQC and getting some beans afterwards. Other enjoy interacting with their victims on some level and maybe getting more out of it than just some gear they don't need and a kill count. In that sense, I could mean the experience of player interaction or "holding up a guy" then tracking him back to his camp or his buddies to kill or steal from. Now, I am a Hero, but I respect all bandit play styles that aren't hacking, but my question for the KoS people, why not just play Arma/Wasteland? It gives you the same experience of intense fighting with high-end weapons, and the zombies don't get in the way. However, I highly doubt you can effectively hold up and kidnap someone in a Wasteland server or a general Arma multilayer mission. They would just try and shoot you, respawn, and come back after you with vehicles and guns. DayZ was deigned for player interaction. It is of course optional, but why not? We don't all have to be care bear Heroes and rebuild society, but you don't have to shoot everything that moves all the time, I'd image that would get a bit stale. And on the victims standpoint, it can be much more enjoyable even if it ends in death. Some of my most intense and enjoyable bandit related experiences, beyond the intense firefights where only one of us barely walks or crawls away, were ones where I was held-up, kidnapped, left for dead in the middle of nowhere without a map, or forced into participating in hatchet fights with a gambling ring. Try to be more creative, bandits of DayZ. It will be more fun for all of us.

    My custom key bindings.

A little confused as to what you're even doing. Did you set your bindings to the num pad? Do whatever works best for you, but in my opinion the classic setup is much better. There's many more keys in roughly the same space as the num pad, your hands aren't crammed together, and your longer and more flexible fingers (thumb and pointer) have more to the right to press instead being on the edge with nothing to hit than what's under them, and you're pinkie doesn't work as hard. It might just be more natural to me, being a PC FPS player for awhile now, and a PC gamer for longer, but the WASD set is a lot better. It might be a bit foreign going from console controllers to big keyboard, but you'll come to appreciate the space. That and your pinkie won't be hurting after a couple of hours of play. As for Arma III, naturally they did add some more functionality (throw grenade, combat mode) and altered some things like crouch and prone being a toggle, but you shouldn't have too much of a problem figuring out a decent binding. However, DayZ standalone will be on it's own engine, it won't be a mod for Arma III, so you should expect a different set of commands to play with there.

    New guy - Amadeus

I don't really know any whitelisted EU ones, but I do know the Balota Buddies thing is they just want you in the teamspeak while you're in-game in case the admins need to get a hold of you. You don't have to be social, you can lock your channel or add (do not disturb) to your name. But I understand if you want to find something else.

    My first survivor kill??

Yeah, some people don't have their VoN turned up how they should, so he probably didn't hear you, and he shot on sight. Justified kill in my book. I know some origins servers don't save your location when you come back in, just coincidence you got the same spawn again. And are you sure you didn't mean 2 clicks? That puts you at the East Airfield, 20 clicks puts you in the ocean.

    Zombie Aggressiveness

Yeah, they should only be able to change the spawn rate. Are you playing on a map other than Chenarus? Or maybe a different version? That could be a factor. I know they made zeds brutal in DayZ+ and Origins.

    Map Notes

They are only persistent as long as you're in the server and it hasn't restarted, unless of course someone else has it on their map. It would be cool if you could mark a map and it would save to that map forever no matter who held it. You could find the camps of the people you killed, you could plant treasure maps for people to find, etc. Unfortunately isn't the case, at least in the mod.

    I like my axe

Yes, just lose the zombies, no need to even axe them a question. You can use a crossbow with some practice, but it's not very good PvP wise. If you really have to, use your sidearm or a quieter rifle such as the MP5A5, or even without that, most assault rifles aren't too terribly loud, and if you find an M16, M4, or G36 variant, all those and more can be loaded with STANAG SD ammo, which doesn't aggro zeds. Just be prepared to leave quickly, as any nearby bandit will be on your tail. One gun I love to use is the M249 SAW. It's only 80m aggro range, 2 shots zeds, has 200 rnd. belts, and can be loaded with STANAG and STANAG SD. It can clear the zeds with ease and is big and bad enough to hold it's own in a firefight. You can only find them at heli crashes and barracks however, so happy hunting! http://dayzdb.com/da...apon-comparison reference chart for audible range for zombies and such

First time installing, using DayZ Commander

Make sure you have your Arma II beta patch updated, be sure to run both Arma II and OA to the title screen, and if you are using the steam version, select both steam options in DayZ commander. Let us know if you have any more problems beyond that.

    My first PvP experience.

Well I mean you "can" make the shot, but hitting a spec with iron sights with your normal sway is pretty damn difficult, and since the bullet loses significant speed over that distance, it would do significantly less damage than the number in the DB, so it'd have to be headshot or nothing. With the zeroing you can go farther than the other assault rifles, just not 600m lol.

    Map Notes

Yes, the whole server can see your in-game map notes. I don't recommend using them ever. If you're using DayZ commander it has a note option for the server where you can type in things, so it could be "Camp- 100 101" or something of that nature, that or just write it down on paper. @GOD, I haven't tried all the channels, but I have had experience where people saw my notes from group, at least when they enter the lobby. You might be safe with vehicle or direct, but definitely not side or group.

    My first PvP experience.

Very nice, you can handle a firefight like the best of them. Chances are those two hadn't played any Arma and just got it for dayz, and their only PvP experience is shooting at bambies with a high powered sniper rifle. In a fight, you can't be too close to your partner, and never linger in the same revealed location. You did that, they didn't Just a note though with the SA-58p, just because it can zero that high, doesn't mean it can fire that far. Accuracy is terrible and the bullet will do significantly less damage by the time it reaches that far. Best to only go 300m max.
  17. They have US, EU, and AU servers

    rMod?

I had messed around on an rMod server before, all that will happen is you won't be able to join normal servers when you have the rMod files in your Arma directories. It's a bit annoying, having to move the files around all the time, but you won't get banned for it, I didn't at least.

    Group forming.

I'd check out the other forum sections, primarily the general discussion sub-forums http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/forum/7-dayz-general-discussion/ There's a number of threads looking to form small groups, but if you don't find any you like, I'd recommend making one of your own in those section.

how to become a hero(for begginers)

Are you reffering to the custom skins like Joker, facepaint, etc? http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/75785-how-to-customize-dayz-skins/page__hl__%2Bjoker+%2Bskin to my knowledge, that only changes the head and arms of your character, but the clothing part (survivor, bandit, hero, gillie, etc.) can't be changed out of game that easily. If you do play with some things to set your default skin to Hero, some admins may consider that hacking or a sign of a hacker, so I wouldn't advise it.

    No loot/zombies spawning

It's probably a server issue, hadn't restarted in awhile and spawns are lagging behind.
  23. This isn't a clan recruitment thread, it's purely for immediate medical assistance requests. If you need a permanent medic on your squad, I suggest going here http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/forum/69-clan-group-recruitment/ and making a thread. Any medics that respond to this are already part of TMW or specifically want to play solo.
  24. Heli crashes are still spawn at a normal rate, it's just how they spawn that makes a difference. I'm not sure of the actual numbers, but it used to be when the server restarted there was 4 right away, now they spawn over the life of the reset, and it seems it gets to 4 or 5 after about 12 hours (we checked with a heli). So if you play on servers with quick restarts, you probably won't have much luck. If you play on servers with long restarts, it gets a little silly how many there are. There was a server I went one that hadn't restarted for at least 2 weeks. There were a number of spots where from the ground, I could literally see 10+ heli crashes around me, and not just the smoke and whatnot, the physical helicopters.
  25. just head to the teamspeak ts.dayzmedics.com, they'll help you out
