Basically just scattered military bases and factories with one city and one hospital compound, separate of course. It's great for PvP and those grizzled survivormen who like living in the forest and surviving off scraps, not knowing when they'll get their next meal, but not a lot of buildings in general. There are some cool ones like Object A2 (super hotspot btw) and the Seraja Army Base, but once you're out of Vorkuta (if you can even make it there) it's pretty scattered, and a lot of the same loot; just guns and car parts with the very occasional can of food lying around. Also, bloodsuckers, nuf said.

All I can say is there's only so much a laptop can do with Arma. If you really want good frames at a decent quality, you're better off building/buying a nice desktop. But without spending money, best you can do is play with the settings to maximize it (plenty of tutorials out there, forum and youtube) and ensure you don't have any unessary programs running, including background ones. Best of luck.

I don't understand Play withSix please help
herrjon replied to etc (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Arma II has a beta patch that needs to be updated, did you do that on DayZ Commander or somewhere else? That could be your problem with Six. Steam does not automatically do this as there are a number of servers on a number of different beta patches. If by "delete DayZ from steam" do you mean unistall or simply remove the library reference? If you downloaded DayZ via steam, unistalling it would mean you would have to re-download it via Six or DayZ commander, but you should be able to just remove it from your library if you like to keep things tidy. I still would say it's worth sorting out DayZ Commander because it is a much better program in the long run. Maybe if you could further describe your problem with DZC we can help you make it work. -
If you select the ammo in your gear, it'll say more or less which guns can use it, but after awhile you'll get the hang of it. It is worth noting to that certain ammo can be converted into others. For instance, M1911 mags can be converted into .45 ACP revolver mags, and visa versa. Certain guns can take mulitple types as well, for instance your double barrel can take 2rd. Slugs and 2rd. Pellets as well, pellets being my preference.

Can't join any servers "Bad version"
herrjon replied to etc (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Get DayZ commander and update the Arma II beta patch -
It seems to me part of the problem is RRF's code of conduct. They are far too trusting of there patients and take little to no protective measures, at least from the footage I've seen so far. In all the time I've been in TMW I haven't had a single betrayal or ambush during a medic mission, because I never gave them the chance. The only problems we have had are hackers and the little ESU annoyance.

What's your ping on the servers you play on, and what is your average FPS when playing? Could just be a bad connection or a lacking computer, Arma II is pretty taxing on your machine.
-
Well there's Fallujiah that's just a big city and an airport, or Taviana with a few larger cities and plenty of vehicle spawns. Just keep in mind that due to the Arma II engine, not all the buildings will be enterable, and not every room will be either. A lot of the taller buildings (20+ floors) only are enterable on the first floor or only have some method to get on the roof (elevator ladder). I think what you might want to do is check out http://dayzdb.com/map and browse though the avialable maps and get a feel for what's available for settings and terrain.
-
You might want to look in the general discussion sub-forums, as there are already a number of threads there looking for people to join current groups or forming new ones. Could repost this there as well if you don't find anything right away.
-
Didn't play a whole lot of it, but it was pretty good too
-
A good number of the unofficial maps have new buildings and a large number are enterable. I'd say try Lingor Island, that's the one that sticks in my memory for enterable buildings.

Skilled Vs Unskilled bandits
herrjon replied to stonewall1350's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well I don't know about the rest of you, and this may just be because I don't really care if I lose my gear or I'm just crazy, but when a bandit successfully "holds me up" I don't log out or make a reckless move on them, I'm curious to see where they go with it. If they do end up killing me or leaving me for dead, I just respawn and move on as I would have anyways, but you can come out of it with more gear, a new friend, or at least a good story to tell. There was one instance on Lingor Island where I was just coming out of a military compound, and a guy on the nearby hill shot my leg and I was left laying there in the middle of the road. I see over side someone instructing me I have 10 seconds to bandage and drop all my weapons including hatchet on the road and roll away from them. I see someone walking down the hill clearing the zeds coming after me. He gives me morphine and blood and checks my bag for supplies. After stuffing the M24 I found in his bag, he tells me to walk down the road in front of him and not do anything stupid. We come up to a higher value military compound. After he clears the zeds he tells me he has a buddy overwatching the area on the hill across the river, and I can see a figure Q-E'ing across the way. He then puts a hatche in my bag and tells me I'm going to loot cycle for him, where to stand, what to do, and what to look for. He then leaves me to transport some gear or something, maybe get another hostage. About 20-30 minutes later, and a couple kills added to his sniper buddy's belt, he comes back with a vehicle. He has me holster the hatchet, checks my bag for any guns, then has me help load up the vehicle with the guns he wanted. Once that is done, he has me get in the back. We pick up his friend on the hill, then drive off. We come up to a secluded area and I fear this is the end. However, he was actually taking me to a hidden blue GAZ. They tell me to get out of the car and stand in between the two vehicles while one checked the gear and the other my bag. One I hear the all clear, they tell me the GAZ is mine and has an AK Kobra and a DMR in it, along with some other basic supplies. They then drive off and I didn't see them again, at least as far as I know. Sure I could've made a move on him when I still had the M24, but I had never fired one at that point, didn't know where he was, was bleeding and couldn't move, I knew I would die if I tried, so why not see where things go. Even if they did end up bring me to a ditch to put me down in, I still wouldn't have regretted staying. -
The time of day part is going to be based off of your time-zone and playtime, so that is going to vary based on you. The other part, I assume you're talking about the custom spawn loadout? If you join an official hive server the only starter-gear people will get is bandage, painkiller, flashlight, patrol pack. Private hives will vary greatly, as I have been on ones where I started with DMR, Coyote pack, and full toolbelt. Some will say if they have a custom loadout in the title, but it just comes down to trial and error.
-
If that's your concern, then you may want to stay on private. Hackers prefer to go to public servers over private in general. Yes they do go to the private ones as well, but on average you see more on public. So long as you find a private server you like or you have a character on, you can pull it up again by favoriting it or simply going into your recent server tab.
-
I don't have any specific ones in mind, but most server have a high bandit or KoS population. You just have to be more careful. When you die to another player, look back at what happened and what you did to expose yourself and put yourself in danger, and avoid this the next time. Also, try to stick to lower population servers, as the high pop ones tend to attract bandits, and scripters.
-
Pretty successful first time I'd say. I wouldn't get too mad about dying though, in DayZ, it doesn't matter what you have or how good you are, you will die a horrible, painful death and lose everything. It's not your gear, it's lady Chenarus's, and she'll be taking it back eventually.
-
Probably just didn't install fully. If you got the game on steam, you can just verify local game cache, otherwise just reinstall. Also re-install dayz, make sure your Arma II beta is up to date, and select both steam options in commander, assuming you bought it through steam. Best of luck.
-
There is a public hive where all you start with is bandage, flashlight, painkillers, and Patrol Pack, regardless of server. This hive is only on Chenarus, with not additional mods to it like DayZ+ or 2017. The rest are private hives where the admin can change starting gear, map, vehicle limit, etc. Some don't, but most do to some degree. Just use dayz commander and hide all unofficial servers if you want the vanilla dayz experience. Not to say all private servers are all "custom loadout, new buildings, base building, 5 billion vehicles, choppers for everyone" but the public hive servers can't change that. As for downloads, just need Arma II, Operation Arrowhead, DayZ mod, and update your Arma II beta patch. You can download other maps, but all servers that run non-chenarus maps are private and typically have some quirk to them.

That's how you should always talk to people close to you even with side enabled. You don't give away any info to the entire server, and a lot of servers kick/ban people who use VON over side chat. If you have a buddy you know you're going to play with though, I'd recommend using 3rd party programs for communication.

How do you make travel more interesting in Day Z
herrjon replied to zqpmxn's topic in New Player Discussion
That would go against the core design goals of the game, and make vehicles nearly pointless. In DayZ, it's the journey and not the destination, which is why on vanilla servers you start with nothing and work your way up the ladder, not start with M4's and DMR's. -

Well as far as game mechanics, there are vehicles, you just have to work for them. I don't know what else you would have in mind. Beyond chatting with my mates on the trips, I just enjoy the scenery and pass the time constantly looking around for other players and tents. Just assume there's always someone tailing you. -
We've all heard the sob story from hundreds before you, but the fact of the matter is, no one here can help you, and complaining about it does not good. You know your options, wait for Battleye or buy a new key, that's just how it is.
-
Battleye is the only one that can lift the ban, you can't get any help here.

Try swimming to Skalisity Island, you'll notice the change.
