Looking for honest team players :)
herrjon replied to PANDAFLUFF's topic in Clan / Group Recruitment
Pretty sure he asked for a small group of people, not a heavily modded server. If you hadn't actually responded to Derper's comment I'd assume you two are spambots. OP, check out the general discussions sub-forums. There are plenty of people looking for groups there, or you can just move this thread there. Best of luck. -
Yes, it's probably showing offline servers or servers that have changed maps and whatnot. One other thing that can be done though is to simply restart commander, and this generally refreshes more servers than the refresh button.

Where do you think is the best hidden place to set a tent?
herrjon replied to Absmoke's topic in New Player Discussion
SAL_iOC, What does that map represent? I would assume player population, but I'm not quite sure. -
I can somewhat understand the avoidance of PvP and KoS mentality, but the kicker for me is complaining about zombies. The zeds alone are piss easy to deal with. Sure each patch introduced new quirks we had to learn and deal with, but after that when you're on an empty server, just run around Cherno/Elektro without a care in the world. Without zombies, PvP avoidance is pretty easy as well, so long as you don't go running out in the streets, waving your arms screaming friendly. The point of DayZ was to create an environment in which no where is safe and you have to make difficult choices to survive. This is done with the natural threat of PvP and the endless drove of zombies that don't just shuffle around when they see you. Without these, you're basically just scavenging some supplies and wandering around, would get boring fairly easily. Yes the game is a sandbox and you can play as you like, but you can't force another playstyle on someone else. If someone wants to go around shooting everything that moves they have just as much a right to as you do to kill zeds and scavenge. If they get in your way, shoot them or leave the area, don't come whining on a forum. I play as a hero, helping out any that I see and never killing anyone who doesn't make a go at me first, and I rarely die to normal bandits, just confirmed hackers and glitches. If the harsh survival world of DayZ isn't what you were expecting out of the game then I'm not sure what you were expecting. If it was just your performance that's the problem, that's a different story. There are many here that can help you improve your performance, you just have to ask. But based on what you're looking for, it seems like DayZ just isn't the game for you, and I highly doubt there's a server out there meeting your standards, or if there is one you'd be bored of it in a day. I'm not sure what you thought DayZ was going to be when you downloaded it (didn't buy DayZ btw, it's free) but that expectation certainly isn't the reality.

[Tool] DayZCompare - a new way to compare objects
herrjon replied to 7rust's topic in New Player Discussion
Interesting concept, but what does "Shots to kill" refer to, and why is that number different even on guns with the same damage value, such as Revolver vs. M1911? -
Just realize though that the ones that have been there awhile have had even longer to be looted by other players, so while chances are still high, I wouldn't get your hopes up.
-
You either are cheating in some way and not saying so, or were stupid enough to let someone steal your CD Key. The only things you can do is contact battleye about it or buy a new copy of the game. You'll find no further help here.

Best Server For the New and the Seasoned!
herrjon replied to devonl's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/forum/64-private-hive-discussion/ Wrong section, and you need some paragraphs to split things up. No one likes a wall of text. -
Those barrels are not just specifically in military areas, there's plenty in the coast cities and whatnot, Cherno in particular. They also come pre-lit at night, so you don't have to give away your position by lighting it up. I always struggle with the impulse to put them out because they mess up my NVG's, but if I put them out, people will know where I was recently.
-
So what, you server hop, drop random parts of your gear in Cherno church, and log again? Don't really see the point. You could've gotten healed by a random and trade a gun or something, or just found a bambi and let him loot you. What you did seems pointless. If I found 2 STANAG mags in Cherno church as a fresh spawn, I wouldn't even bother picking them up unless I got lucky at the military spawns.
-
For the backpack problem, sidearms take up 5 slots in your backpack. The starter pack, on most servers at least, is 8 slots, so you can put the gun and 3 mags in there. The torch takes 5 as well, so you can leave it in there for quick swapping and to make sure you don't delete your gun. As for the flashlight, try dropping it or adding it to your toolbelt and equipping it again. Those usually do the trick, but sometime a good relog wouldn't hurt.

If it's very jerky twitching, you're in pain. You need painkillers. If it's a large aiming sway, you're out of breath. You need to lay down for a bit.

I believe he's eluding to you being a Frankie copycat. Anyways, you might want to check out the clan recruitment sub forum of general discussion, there's plenty of clans out there looking for people, go shop around.

My PM box is open Tobi, feel free. I won't be responding to anymore ESU related things in this thread.

*resists attempt to get in another ethics of exploiting debate* It's pretty hard to pin down the exact details of zombie aggro, as many have said, but I do know that sight plays a large roll. Perhaps the one far away was facing you and the closer ones weren't? That could be part of it. If you absolutely can't aggro them, do your best to keep to zeds backs or around corners and behind cover, out of their line of sight. As long as you change your speed according to your terrain, you should be fine. Once they do aggro though, move quickly and try to keep your distance from them. There's plenty you can do from there. -Look for a building with 2 entrances that you can run though. In the mod, Zeds can't run indoors, so this usually loses them. -Vault over low fences to create distance. Zeds can't do that, so they have to go around. -Run around tight corners to break line of sight, and find another to go around before the zed gets around the first. This will lose them if you're quiet afterwards. -If in a non-ubran area, run through multiple bushes and pine trees to break line of sight. You won't be hurt if you stay in the pine tree either. -Find a steep hill or slope that your character can't run directly up. Zeds walk slower than humans, so you can easily lose them. -By some bug with the water, zeds can't go on any structure with water underneath. If in a pinch on the coast, find the docks of the town or a bridge with water under it.

I would just like to note I responded to Tobi as well as you, and to any remaining ESU person that stumbles across this. I know of the TMW you were talking about, and yes it was a mess, but we've pulled ourselves together and things have changed since then. Private channels are hardly used nowadays, people play constantly on the main hive server. I personally have taken a break from DayZ and focused my gaming time on other things and still use the TS to chat and play other things with the guys, but if it came down to where I was the only one available, I'd load it up in a heartbeat. Our new head of S&L Kichilron is doing a wonderful job and we all appreciate his efforts, and we're making strides to keep things more and more organized and efficient on the S&L side of things. Just know that it's not the TMW you remember; we're not perfect of course, but we're dedicated and do our job well. I'm glad to hear you stayed out of the little fued between ESU and TMW, I didn't participate much either, considering my play style. I hate to see old friends fighting, and you were one of my better friends out of the lot that left. I think you may have miss read our responses to RRF, or read to much into them. I didn't intend to act like we were flawless and had everything figured out, or be condescending in any way, merely pointing out the fact that they have a problem with satchel charging ambushers, and we know how to help them, and from one medic group to another, sharing what we know with them, and visa versa. In fact, I recall Havoc talking about forming squads in a similar fashion that RRF recommends, at least as practice for SA, as we aren't very good a managing groups larger than a pair.
-
Easy and Tobi, I don't really want to continue you to argue with you anymore than I have to, as it's a tired subject now, and this isn't exactly the place for it, but in all honesty you're just making fools of yourselves. I understand you didn't like how TMW is run, so more power to you for leaving, but at the end of the day we're still helping people. The most I've seen ESU do is grief us on our server and threaten us in and out of game. Yes we aren't the most organized, battled tested force out in Chenarus, but we don't have to be to do the job TMW does. I don't know who you played with when you were members, but me and the other regular medics are at least able to be smart and careful while saving someone, and we teach our less experience members to the same. Yes you were able to go and kill us and destroy things, but this was because you had a personal vendetta against us, not because we kept stumbling across you. As for what I was saying in my "never giving them the chance" comment, I was talking about such basic precautions such as not blurting out the server until you are at the exact spot the patient describes and are able to see them spawn in. Tobi, that link you posted, that's a brand new section of the forum that's still under construction. It's meant to be used as a way for patients to not have to create an account on our website in order to submit a request. We still get plenty of traffic on the thread and walk-ins via teamspeak. There is a thread in our private section where we post patients that we have helped in order to keep track of repeat patients. It was made in mid January and is now several pages long. Yes our patient load is less than what it used to be, but this is due more to people losing interest in the game rather than some apparent lack of skill from TMW. I don't know all the details about the Gaylord incident, but I do know that Marijke is working directly with the leader of RRF to sort things out, and Feral has already resigned from TMW for his involvement.

More or less what others have said, go tutorial > armory > editor. It's how I learned, and I fly just fine with mouse and keyboard. I'd say helicopters overall are better, at least in DayZ, but I'd be careful if you ever hop in front seat of the russian lady, she goes where she pleases.

Except respawn is enabled when you have a broken leg :D

Not really sure why ban worthy is even a question. Any form of hacking is banable and deserves such, even if at the time all they're doing is blowing up spawned in vehicles with spawned in satchel charges out on hacker island. I had only ever gotten caught in the Gungam style script once, due to the fact that I had killed a zed right before that and was in combat. Guy also gave everyone full toolbelt, Makarov SD and Saiga 12K to everyone (on public chenarus) which I promptly buried in a zed. No one was killed thankfully. This was back when adding in permanent structures was a big thing for hackers too. Had a Battleship at Elektro docks as well as on sniper hill, and I think later that night there was a fleet of bi-planes on the plains on the north side of Elektro.

Where do you think is the best hidden place to set a tent?
herrjon replied to Absmoke's topic in New Player Discussion
Just think of where people will naturally travel going from place to place, then rule out the obvious spots for camps where tent hunters will look, such as the edge of the map. Then from there see what's left that suits your needs and scope it out. Green Mountain used to be a good one since nothing good ever spawned there, zombies spawned like crazy (still do) and there used to be a myth of a ghost haunting the place. So no one used to go there and you could camp out without a worry, but now there's 2-3 vehicles spawns there and people have figured out it isn't cursed, so long as you don't drink a mountain dew there anyways... -
Yeah, it needs to be the big tanks, you can't actually use the fuel station pumps, unless it's a modded private server. Sometimes too there will be some lag between you and the server to the point where you can't refill the jerry can or even use it. There's some troubleshooting like reloging, using a different can, etc. but I don't know of a straight up fix. Had you used that particular jerry can before in that play session?
-
If I remember correctly, a tent with no owner, meaning the character that placed it died (like in your case) it will dissapper after 7 days of no interaction. As soon as you move some gear in or out of it, that timer resets. Vehicles is something similar, but there's no "owner" it will just dissappear and respawn if no one uses it for awhile.

Has anyone had this issue.. or could it be a hacker..?
herrjon replied to milkeyuk's topic in New Player Discussion
Only glitches I know of that put people in the air is the Hero skin login and a rare chance of docks flinging you up. It was a hacker. Did the rest of the server die with you? -
I'd still be happy for your success on your first night. Even though you lost your character's gear and probably the ATV (please don't tell me you left it on the airfield) you still have a camp set up. You'll get your stuff back and more in time, just be patient and roll with the punches. These glitch death has happened to all of us, it sucks, but you move on.
