Requesting ban lift on server US1257 dayzmod.com hosted by [VTC]Gaming 129.2.168.231:2303
herrjon replied to Nuggetman's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
They have a teamspeak address of ts.vtcgaming.com so you can get in touch with an admin. The server didn't mention a host website or anything, so that's probably your only shot at getting information. Just make sure you have your approximate time of ban for them. Honestly though, unless you have a tent or a vehicle on that server, I wouldn't bother with it. Just find another public server to play on. -
I don't have any experience with it, and I'm sure someone will come along and tell you what you need, but there is this for Xbox controllers if that helps at all http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/102861-guide-xbox-controller-support-using-xpadder/ If not try just searching around on this forum, the Arma forums, or looking to the software developer. But yes, in all honesty, you need a keyboard. There are so many commands and functions that you need to use, that you'd be hindering yourself with a controller.

Just went in-game on the latest vanilla DayZ patch, it's only 5. The picture on some make take up 6, but it only takes up 5 slots.

Watchout!!! ]ST7[ Snake is a bandit
herrjon replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That's why he said to report it. If someone offers a trade and uses it as a trap, that's negitive cred for them, meaning the chances of him doing it again are lower. See http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/125680-traders-and-traitors-list/ -
Please tell me the name of the best server.
herrjon replied to Ghoul_Life's topic in New Player Discussion
Well, I would say a server being the best server is a matter of opinion, as what you listed doesn't interest me, except for bad admins of course, but I might be able to help. If you do switch to DayZ Commander, you can find the private servers more easily, which are the only servers you'll find the features you're looking for. If you're open to other maps as well, Taviana servers always have plenty of vehicles, and Origins would be a good fit too, although I don't think they have dogs on Origins. A search of the private hive discussion forum section could do you some good too. -
Anyone got Confirmed video of NVG zombie pilot drop
herrjon replied to Loke (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
That's an...interesting tangent to take from my post. You do realize heli crash spawns are random right? It's not the same as server hopping in the barracks or something, it's essentially go on a server, look over most of the north for helis. Don't find any NVG's, try another server by logging out in the forest (as most do). And I wasn't actually recommending that tactic, I was simply comparing that to how terribly low the drop rates for the pilot's NVG's were. @OP, yes they don't spawn in barracks, only at heli crashes and very rarely on the bodies of pilot zombies. If you keep managing to be the first one at the crashes, you should find it spawned around the heli eventually. If however your goal is to be the person to find it dropped by the zombie, then best of luck. I recommend finding yourself a M249 SAW or just a hatchet and lots of bandages and meat. -
Interesting approach. Not sure exactly what your methods are, but TMW has a training for new players we call Chenarus 101; we do it on a locked private hive so we can control the PvP situation, but I've had success just playing with new people on regular servers. (he may die though) A teamspeak server would be best though if you have a number of people that just want to stop by and learn a bit, regardless of method approach. @Darryl, I believe this is in the proper location, as he's not directly recruiting for a long-term clan, just offering in-game help to new players. However, he does have this thread in Survivor HQ as well, which does violate cross posting. OP I suggest you edit your other thread and link it to this one, as to keep all discussion in one place.

Anyone got Confirmed video of NVG zombie pilot drop
herrjon replied to Loke (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Don't know of any footage of it, as you'd have to be recording for hours or just get damn lucky, but yeah, the droprate is insanely low. Better off server hopping for crashed heli's, you'll at least get more guns that way. -
Do you need to repair every part of a heli to be able to fly?
herrjon replied to Water's topic in New Player Discussion
You only have 1 of each? If so, than no. A heli takes 8 windscreen, 4 scrap metal, 1 rotor assmebly, and 1 engine parts. No fuel tank parts are needed, but you need everything repaired or it will leak fuel, faster than you can fill it typically. -
Better than I could explain it. Just make sure if you're putting weapons and whatnot in your bag to take care. Rifles take 10 slots and sidearms take 5. If there isn't that many free slots, it will simply delete the weapon.
-
Decent stuff. A good tip was in the heli basics where you say to start the engine and eject to clear zombies while it fires up. Smart move as they can attack you while you're in the heli, but not when you're under the rotor blades. Most of the other info is just the controls of it, but that's a good takeaway that I don't see in other heli guides.

DayZ in a way, has ruined gaming for me!
herrjon replied to OfficerRaymond's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I wouldn't say it has ruined other games for me, just solidified my playstyle and choices in games. I've always been one for a challenge over things being handed to me on a silver platter, and I look for more in games than just pretty graphics. For instance I love minecraft, but instead of just building on creative with a bunch of easy-mode mods, I'll play vanilla survival, set to hardcore on hard difficulty, with sparse use of sleeping. That's how I've played games for as long as I can remember, because it's so much more satisfying to finish something when it was difficult to do. DayZ is that on steroids. Working so hard to find that bit of gear that you need, and that continued challenge of staying safe enough to keep it, it's a great feeling. From an FPS standpoint, I've never enjoyed the deathmatch style games, and preferred more tactic centric ones. I can't tell you how much of a sight for sore eyes Arma was when I found it. Aside from that I really enjoy Planetside 2 due to the scale of everything, and the tactics behind winning the battles, and not just racking up the most kills. If anything it has only ruined easy games for me. I played Farcry 3 after playing DayZ for awhile, and while it's a great game, I was disappointed with how easy it was after you get a few radio towers and whatnot, even on the hardest difficult and things like crosshairs and aim-assist turned off. I had to invent ways to make it challenging and fun for me, like taking out an outpost with only a pistol or a bow, or melee only, etc. -
I wouldn't bother listening to him, he's just trying to get his jollies. Getting an Arma product through any other source than Steam or directly from Bohemia Interactive is treacherous ground, as 99% you either end up with a banned CD:key and less money in your pockets, with no hope of appeal. Sure Pirate Bay is "free", but you won't be able to play DayZ or any online play for that matter because you won't have a legit CD key, and you'll probably end up with a virus at the end of it. As for your question, you do need Arma II in some form to play DayZ. You can get the free version and still get it to work, but if you look at the steam prices, it's only $5 more to get Combined Operations vs. Operation Arrowhead. So it really just comes down to, are better graphics and easier install worth $5? I'll leave that up to you.

How to run Game Booster with Six Launcher and/or DayZ Commander
herrjon replied to Craaze's topic in New Player Discussion
I'm not entirely familiar with Game Booster, but if you insist on using it go for the All-in-one boost that Applejaxc mentioned, or find the servers you like on DayzCommander and learn how to find those servers in the Arma in-game server browser. You might need to explain your situation a bit better. Do you have Arma II, Arma II OA, as well as the latest Arma II and DayZMod patched downloaded via commander, and double checked your paths to make sure they're right? And what happens exactly when you attempt to connect to a server, as well as when the error message pops up? Also, have you tried multiple servers? Sorry, just don't have much to go on with what you've described. -
Alpha test, closed alpha, even more closed alpha?

Amen to that. -
Pay to win server? No thanks.

Just a few questions about the game.
herrjon replied to Copperore14's topic in New Player Discussion
I'm not sure where you're getting this promise of DayZGame coming out next month, a link of some form would be helpful. As for buying Arma or not, I would still recommend it. I take it in your research you've seen some gameplay of DayZMod an it drew your interest, well that's the sort of thing you'll come to expect out of the mod, i.e. basic survival with PvP threats. Rocket has said recently that at this point Standalone, or the full game, the game and the mod are on completely different planets gameplay wise . Now we can't say for sure what it will be like, but from what we've been told suriving the elements is going to be a lot harder, and they're going to push for more cooperation and less military style fire fights. In the end, it's not that expensive to get Arma II:CO, one forumer looked at it as 2 movie tickets, so as long as you get 6 hours of enjoyment out of it, you got your money's worth. I say get it. -
I believe it's the Skoda car, it just shows up as "car" or "white car" and what not.

Low Blood, Trapped in the Middle of NW Airfield, SOLO, HELP!
herrjon replied to Secretname911 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You can do what Paul said, or simply skip that step and head to the teamspeak server ts.dayzmedics.com an find a medic there. We'll get you fixed up as soon as possible, just don't log in until a medic gives the all clear, considering the situation and location. -
Not on vanilla servers, vest pouch is 12 there, Alice 16, Chech backpack is 24. All backpacks on vanilla servers except for the patrol pack have enough space to fit at least a rifle in them. The old pouch was 6 anyways, so you must play on a server that nerfed it even more lol
-
Yep, rifles take 10 slots, the starting pack only has 8. If you're unsure how much space you have left in your pack, once you open it, it will say at the top of the list on the left, saying [backpack name] ([free slots]/[max slots]). The game won't automatically put anything in your pack, you have to do it manually, and if there isn't room, it's gone. On the hatchet problem, currently hatchets and machetes have 2 modes so to speak, a tool and a weapon. If it's in "weapon mode" it will take up your rifle spot, take up 10 slots in your pack, and will be dropped if you pick up a rifle. When weapon hatchet is on the ground, it will be standing on the blade, with the handle standing straight up, but does have a tendency to be dropped underground or disappear entirely. When you pick up a weapon hatchet, it will take your rifle slot immediately, making your drop any rifle you have equipped. In "tool mode" it takes up on of your bottom tool slots, only 1 space in your pack, and lays on the ground when dropped, as you would find it when it naturally spawns. Currently there aren't enough tools to fill up your toolbelt, so there's no real need to drop it from your toolbelt or move it in your pack, unless you're getting one for a friend. You can't have multiples of the same tool on your toolbelt, so any extra hatchets you want to carry have to be in your pack or equipped as a weapon.

Discussion on gun sights? Sounds good to me!
herrjon replied to BrassGorilla's topic in New Player Discussion
Also on the ACOG sight, if you can't line it up on their shoulders correctly and you know the range, the center works for 0-100m, and each line down will be where it's zeroed for each additional 100m, up to 600m at the bottom line. You can of course hit them from farther away, but not quite as accurately. DMR at zoom level one is zeroed at 125m and at zoom level two is zeroed at 400m. -
Yeah, especially in the hot spots like Cherno/Elektro, you have to be very wary of snipers. It does wonders before you enter an area to consider where snipers are likely to be and avoid locations that are in there line of sight. In Elektro, Dobryy hill is very popular for snipers, as they have vision of the hospital roof, office roof as well as windows and back and side door, all entrances to the supermarket, and the roofs, towers, and back doors of both firehouses, as well as plenty of road coverage and easy view of the field to the North. You've got to be moving fast and avoid aggro to survive them, and you definitely don't want to log out in a hotspot where a sniper can get you. Exfil out and find a nice tree to log out in. And yeah, a headset is important to safely communicate with people. If you have to type, you can't move making you an easy target. Just don't use your mic over side chat, most servers don't like that and some will ban you for it.

Not sure of what the problem is, but it's not admins rolling back, they can't do that on the public hive.
