    Noobie questions

    1. It really depends on what you're lookin for. Just to name a few though Frankie, Devildog Gamer, Psyndicate, and Sacriel, but there are plenty more. I would say Rhino, but he's "given up" on DayZ, so I wouldn't expect any more material out of him. 2. Survival is the base of it, from there you set your own goals. Most common goals are to find tents and vehicles to set up a camp, fix and maintain a helicopter, get x number of kills in one life, become a Hero, rack up zombie kills, etc. The game is what you make of it. 3. The frustration is the "fun" of the game for me at least. I like games that are a legitmate challene for me, and DayZ is always giving me more. The new patch for instance, a lot of people are complaining that it's "too difficult", but I personally love it. I'm finally worried about zombies again, and now I can't get fully gear up in one place within half an hour. 4. The only rules really are, don't hack and don't battle log. The former is bannable and the latter is heavily frounded upon by the community (some admins will ban for it too) Everything else is fair game.
  2. I just found a box for you. Just join the teamspeak channel ts.dayzmedics.com. Edit: I notice you've gone offline now, however the advise is still the same. Join that teamspeak and find a medic. I'll be around what is tomorrow morning/afternoon for me, as well as around the time of your post. Best of luck, hopefully you can find a medic to help.
  3. Did you buy Arma II and Arma II: Operation Arrowhead?
  4. It has the download, but last time I tried, you can't connect to the servers via commander, you need to launch in-game. But yeah, each map/sub-mod has their own patches that are made and have to be downloaded. Most are simillar to the normal DayZ mod, but others are vastly different (Origins, 2017, Civilian for example). Other things such as base building and auto-refuel are server-side mods that you don't have to download to use. These things are not on the public dayz servers, you will only find them on private servers and other maps. Most private servers will list key mods in their descripition, so you can search for them in your browser, but if there's something you have to have, I'd recommending browing the private hive discussion forum http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/forum/64-private-hive-discussion/

    Just Started Playing Dayz

Well with that, all you'd really need to be set for the north is matches, a map and medical supplies. I personally wouldn't risk going to Cherno firehouse if you're already that well equipped, but it's your choice. Just consider what you have to lose and what the chances are you'll get there safely and find a weapon, vs. finding a weapon at Balota airstrip. Don't go to Green Mountain, never go to Green Mountain if you value your life at all. It's just not worth it. I'm not sure if you mean the military tents in Starry, but unless you're on a customized server, there's no barracks in Stary. It's still a great place to go for a good weapon, but the only barracks on normal maps are the 2 at Northwest Airfield. You won't have to go back to the coast just for food/drink. There are a number of supermarkets outside of Cherno/Elektro, specifically a total of 8 (Zelenogorsk, Pustoska, Vybor, Stary Sobor, Polana, Berezino x2, Krasnostav) It's good to check these out if you're nearby even if you aren't low on food/drink because it's your best shot at finding a camping tent. Just a note on the tent, it takes 3 inventory slots to pick up, so plan accordingly. Finally, if you ever need to stock up on medical supplies, don't forget Berezino. It's a bit city with low player traffic. A lot lower risk to get some meds and check two supermarkets as well as some military tents, provided you want to make the trip. Best of luck!
  7. It's not just downloading script menus, there's sites out there advertising cheaper or free versions or Arma, Standalone leaks (fake), or things like "optimization" programs claiming to improve your DayZ fps. They're all a ploy of course, just some skiddies tricking unsuspecting legit players into giving them access to their computer so they can steal a legit cd key and dump a banned one on them. That or just take the money and run.

    Just Started Playing Dayz

Well if that's really all you found, I'd avise going for Cherno. At least go to the hopstial to stock up on medical supplies and hopefully find a map and bigger bag. Best of luck!
  9. It varies from medic to medic. I personally am wary of any mod that forces you to use a launcher that isn't DayZ Commander or simply in-game Arma, especially with Breaking Point's history with CD keys, but other medics may feel differently. Private server heals are a bit rough too, as the medic typically hasn't been on the server before and has to get to you from a random spawn with varying gear, typically needing to find medical supplies along the way, and possibly have to go to hot spots without the luxury of hopping to a quiet server. Most will still do it, I'll do any DZC supported maps, you'll just have to bear with the medic as it can be a lengthy operation.
  10. Just hop on the teamspeak channel ts.dayzmedics.com and we'll have someone there to patch you up.
  11. It's been removed, either intentionally or unintentionally since it got changed to a toolbelt weapon I would assume. As people have said, something like this exists in 2017, and some private servers may have a mod for it, not sure. But yeah, on vanilla servers, it is essentially a nerfed hatchet that's more rare and buggy as all hell to equip and use. I wouldn't bother it. A DayZ vet like yourself shouldn't have a problem avoiding zeds and killing them when needed.

    A quick question

Yeah, there's no programs out there. Try different maps perhaps, and play with the settings in-game. There are guides out there that help you chose your settings for best frame rate, although I don't have any saved at the moment, just search around on the forum and on Youtube (don't download anything). One tip though, low settings do not equal better FPS. The lower settings are a bit harder for you computer to render than the normal ones, so in general, stick with normal.
  13. Good guide, nice and simple, and readable. One thing with the spawning bit though, would you really recommend having them trek numerous kilometers and even run through Elektro just to get to Cherno? How I usually handle it is, spawn anywhere from Kamenka to Cap Golova; go to Cherno. Spawn anywhere from Cap Golova to Kamyshovo; go to Elektro. Spawn anywhere from Kamyshovo to Solnichniy; go to Berezino. Yes Elektro can be a bit more rough compared to Cherno, but if you literally spawn right next to it or even in it (you can spawn on the docks) why not give it a go? Just my 2 bits.

    Real world map of Chernarus

I have a second computer with http://dayzdb.com/map pulled up, not that I really need it anymore, after awhile you won't need a map.

    People dont understand

I'd have to disagree. It isn't a thankless job at all. Most of the people I've helped out are very grateful, and have even offered what little gear they had as compensation (didn't take it of course). Yes you have your bandits and betrayers, but there's still plenty of people out there that need help and want someone they can trust. I don't do it for attention or anything, that's just how I like to play the game. I've played DayZ for a year or so now, and have only killed 1 person who didn't shoot at me first, and I still regret it. I know it's a dangerous playstyle, but that's part of the fun.

    Newbie

Nice, glad you're having a good experience. Hold onto that fear as long as you can. It's one of the best experiences you can get out of dayz, but it doesn't last forever.

    as50 been removed yet?

Why was this damage = 0 not done before, when as50 TWS ruled the land? It's a pretty clever fix to deter skiddies from spawning in crazy weapons "just cause they can". It doesn't fix the overall problem but it helps. On the removing M107 AS50, I think it's a good move. Not because it's a 1-hit kill sniper, but because it's a 1-hit kill gun that can be fired at any range by a brain-dead monkey. What's that, someone < 100m away? Just shoulder the damn thing and fire away, one bullet is bound to hit. I don't want a complete push for military weapons being super rare to non-existent, but .50 cals are a little much. Just my 2 bits.

I can't get the Debug Monitor on

insert will give you things like humanity and kills, but not blood level. There's no way to get an exact blood level, at least one vanilla servers. From my experience though, one it gets past the first level drop on the UI, you're in danger of being knocked out/broken leg from zeds. Once the entire thing is drained, you're in danger of passing out on your own. I'm not sure what else you would need to know your blood levels for beyond that, as it isn't advised to run around near death.
  19. Just hop on the teamspeak ts.dayzmedics.com and someone will be on to help you out. Edit: Never mind. In the future, all you have to do is go to that teamspeak.

Is there suppose to be a cursor in Dayz?

You must have been watching old dayz videos, or ones on private hives. They removed the makarov on spawn awhile ago, you only spawn with painkillers, bandage, and patrol pack, at least on public servers and vanilla private hives. That's the case for "normal servers" now. If you want a pistol and only a pistol on spawn, you'll have to do some looking around for the right one. As far as your crosshair, some server do have it disabled. If you want a server that does have them enabled, in DayZ commander, look under settings. If a server has crosshairs enabled, the cross under settings will be white, if it's disabled, it'll be gray.
  21. Decent guide, but I do think you maybe went a little heavy on the supplies. You've got 9 food/drink and 12 max for meds. Say you get a 16 slot pack, leaving only 7 slots left for your ammo and misc, definitely not enough to get a 2nd rifle if you find it, or a tent. You do mention not to really bother with blood/epi unless you play with others, but it's not very explicit that you should pack differently for solo than you would in a group. And in general, I think the people that would make use of this guide are solo players. Even with that though, that only frees up 4 more slots. You can find painkillers, food and drink fairly reliably in the castles and supermarkets in the North. I normally don't head out with any more than 3 drinks and 2-3 cans of food. This may be because I tend to supermarket hop, but 5 and 4 is a bit excessive imo. Also, even with the new infection system, 2-3 antibiotics is a little much. So long as you're cooking your meat and boiling your water, 1 will do you just fine, 2 if you don't loot much. I of course pack more, but I'm a medic. Still a useful guide though. I'd say not to be so hard on the hatchet, but I suppose that's just a matter of preference.

    You see a hero

While this is possible and does come up, it's a small percentage of the heroes, and it's very difficult to maintain if the lead a typical bandit playstyle.
  23. It depends is the best answer you'll get. However, you can kill as many bandits as you like without losing humanity, and I don't recommend killing Heroes if you can avoid it, as this will almost always give you a bandit skin (assuming that's something you want to avoid)
  24. herrjon

New to Dayz and FPS games

Well if you don't mind the public hive, all you have to do is simply check the "hide unofficial" option on your DayZ Commander filters, and this will give you all the public hive servers, that can only run vanilla dayz. If you do however prefer private hives, see above.
